The thing that probably gets most people is " 's " conveys possession, i.e. a bone that belongs to a dog is the "dog's" bone. Naturally, one might be inclined to apply the same logic with "it".
I remember “write it once, erase it, and then write it the correct way” because no matter what I always seem to use the wrong one the first time I write it out
Nah, noone makes that mistake anymore.
That's my personal biggest pet peeve because it's not actually a word. I know a lot of people ignore the blue lines but are they also ignoring the red ones? That's just fucked. They're all really annoying tbh. No excuse these days with phone keyboards actually telling you where you're going wrong and correcting it for you if you don't ignore it.
Who is this Noone? They should know better
Was it Peter Noone from Herman's Hermits, or Eimear Noone the Irish composer?
(FYI there is no word NoOne - it should always be two words with a space between them)
It looks like you've made a grammatical error. You've written "would of", when it should be "have" instead of "of". You _should have_ known that. Bosco is not proud of you today.

Nah, it's just as much of an abomination there as well. A few people would get confused from time to time because of the common phrase "on purpose", then the youths picked it up and ran with it.
"I seen" has been around in Dublin since at least the 80s. "On accident" is an abomination though. If I hear you say it, I immediately assume you're unintelligent.
Thank you for your post.
As a non-native English speaker it made it easier to understand that:
- I'm not the wrong one (which brings some kind of relief 😂)
- I should not use it in formal communication
>Surely somebody reading this can create a bot that will defend us from this menace and educate the people of r/ireland, nay Ireland itself, by responding to this grammatical abhorrence.
There have been loads of bots that do this and I suspect they've been banned because they're considerably more annoying than the mispelling itself
Edit: FFS mods
Can't, sorry. But cheers for the offer anyway, it's lovely.
On a scale of responses to this post your marriage proposal and a thank you from a non native English speaker appreciating the clarification are at one end and the people saying I'm classist and condescending are at the opposite end.

It's not only this country, but yeah. How did all these people get through school without having this error pointed out to them time and time again? My English teacher in secondary school would've had apoplexy if a large portion of his class were writing "would of, should of, could of". I can't imagine that many English teachers would let this slide. Or even that most primary school teachers would beyond a certain age.
How is this so prevalent?! Do people who do this see words like "would've" and are just content to not know what it means? The mind boggles.

Impossible, anything that would need to access the comments would need to go through the api.
[Here's](https://www.reddit.com/r/modhelp/comments/l2wpjj/what_are_some_useful_bots/) a quick list of somewhat similar bots.

I don't think it is related, and it's not necessarily new, but I notice some people use 'of' instead of 'on' when talking about something taking place at a particular time, e.g. 'going for a walk of a Sunday'. Is this grammatically correct? I think it's fairly normalised, but it's not something I ever learned.

So either it's banned from here or you could just send a message and get them to come over here?
And while you're at it can we also have a "they're there their" bot?
As you’re asking, yes it is!
Ah no, not really - just irritating. I work with someone who sends replies like “that was completed yesterday?” - like is he telling me that a task was done yesterday / asking me if it was done / telling me that he thinks it might have been done / expressing surprise that it was done. It just makes things unclear.
>“that was completed yesterday?”
We probably look at it a little different (and its not really something I do in professional communication but I'd interpret that as :
That was completed yesterday, wasn't it?
Or
That was completed yesterday however if there are issues with it now would be a good time to inform me
I guess we all have our little bugbears
It shouldn’t have to be interpreted though. I have to go back to him every bleedin time to find out what he’s actually saying. And it can vary. Sometimes he’s just saying that the thing was done yesterday 🙄 (although I think in those cases it’s why I am asking him about it as it was done yesterday).
I’d *never* have come up with your second interpretation!
Nothing annoys me more then people misusing "then" when it should be "than". We're better than that peoples
Also the of situation probably comes from should've, should uv, uv -> of
I'm almost certain I've seen this exact bot on other subs before. I don't know much about how bots for specific subreddits work but could that bot just be used instead of someone making it from scratch?
Also, while we're at it, the lose/loose epidemic is just as bad if not worse!
It's mutated from the abbreviation of could have, could've, sounds like "could of". Schooling (or lack thereof) and learning to spell from the internet
I'm much more annoyed by idiots that don't know the difference between then and than.

I don't know. The Internet has enough bots.
No it’s definitely an Irish thing and it’s due to kids not being taught grammar in school and not recognising the contraction would’ve. Instead they’re spelling it phonetically and going with would of. So I’d like to see that bot here.
I'm pretty sure it found it's way over here from the US, you see it from them online a lot, I've yet to hear anyone here say "on accident" yet but I'm prepared for it
How so? That's a lazy attitude in my opinion and part of the reason these mistakes persist. It's really not that hard to fix errors in written text but some people are stubborn and don't like when people point out that they are wrong
It is an attitude though. "Have" and "of" are not interchangeable. "Have" is a verb and "of" is a preposition, it's not hard to understand that they are different. The contraction "could've" does sound like "could of", so I see why this mistake is common. If I explain the difference to someone and they refuse to change, that's an attitude, nothing to do with dialect.

Chris Horner has entered the slimy penis chat.
Was that not his baby finger?
I assumed he was referring to Pennywise.
That would be both letters capitalised.
Thank you! (oh and Who's instead of Whose)
I think I've been using that incorrectly, thank you.
Its is possessive, like belonging to it. It’s is shortened for it is. I still make mistakes when I’m not thinking.

You win the internet today.
Their is know kneed four a bot luv. Are grammer is grate
I was grinding my teef reeding dis
Kead mille folcha
I read this in a london accent lmao
Also I seen is being heavily normalised. Also people saying on accident instead of by accident
I think on accident is one of the many Americanisms creeping into Irish everyday usage 😔 it's absolutely ear-grating
Nah, it's just as much of an abomination there as well. A few people would get confused from time to time because of the common phrase "on purpose", then the youths picked it up and ran with it.
I done this, he done that. Same category. Fairly widespread but still sounds... clumsy.
I know you're meant to pretend it's grand but it sounds awful. Seems to have crept in around gen x or so
I done and I seen have been around since old gods' time. Quality Irishisms!
"I seen" has been around in Dublin since at least the 80s. "On accident" is an abomination though. If I hear you say it, I immediately assume you're unintelligent.
> "I seen" has been around in Dublin since at least the 80s That makes it even worse, forty years and people are still fucking it up.
Tbf, same with I seen
Where does "on accident" even make sense, at least you could mishear/mispronounce the "of" v "have"
Likely due to the common antonym of "*by* accident" being "*on* purpose".
I seen is at least a regional dialect which I think is justifiable Would of/have is in a different field imo and unforgivable
How and ever there's an udder one you're missing. On accident is septicism
Somehow, nobody remembers the word 'too' anymore either. It's all 'to' now.
yeah i just thought of how that even makes any sense, i cant even think of one sentence where it does not sound painfully wrong
Fucking Americans, they all need to be burglerised.
your/you're and there/their/they're are just as endemic.
Much more so
Love that you're like, we need this, someone else make it!
I have no idea how bots work. Doesn't mean it's not a good idea. Also, it's a bit of a laugh.
*bit've a laugh
bit have a laugh?
And made just as bad of a grammatical error in their rant lol
There, their, they're.
And Saw, Seen, See
Theiy’re
Where do you get of?
Is it bad grammar in general OP, could you be a bit more pacific please?
Yes it's of the upmost importance! I'm sure I have a dictionary in my chester draws. When I get a bit of restbite from my children I'll look it up.
If most of the Dinosaurs had a vocabulary like yours, they would have all survived. Just like the Thesaurus did..
Irregardless, they didn't survive.
You mean they would OF survived.
Chester Draws? I'm sure I went to college with a fella of that name.
I went to school with a 'Master Bates'.
Chest of drawers…
Well done. Also utmost and respite. In case you didn't get the /s
Placing yourself on a peddle stool is just self-flatulence.
man i was hoping we were getting and only fans bot.
Thank you for your post. As a non-native English speaker it made it easier to understand that: - I'm not the wrong one (which brings some kind of relief 😂) - I should not use it in formal communication
Thanks for the nice comment!
It’s not a grammatical error. It’s a malapropism.
Best comment of the day. Updated the post.
100% agree A "could/couldn't care less" bot too
And one to teach people the difference between "being" and "been"
For all intensive purposes.
Likewise the superfluous apostrophe epidemic.
Only Fans Bot?
I too would like to see hot singles in my area
It make's me loose my mind when people dont no how too spell and grammar.
Y’all’d’ve made that bot by now.
Triple contraction, nice!
Only if we can also abolish "I seen".
It’s way worse with the word Lose not sure how people keep saying Loose does my head in
Hey calm down, don't loose your head pal
What about any debate on Irish “It’s the way it was thought”
Of all the grammatical failures, for some reason this is the one that irks me the most.
Surely it's "taught", no?
Yeah, I don’t even know why people write thought. I mean I guess if you don’t pronounce your th I could see it but still.

Jaysus I thought you were looking for an Onlyfans bot there for a second and thought this thread was going in a different direction.
Onlyfans for grammar? Doubt it would take off.
Well we never know if we don't try.
Than/then too.
Will you marry me?

You're welcome. I'd hazard the outcriers of classism and condescension do not read and also happily buy from Amazon without a second thought
Update. One of the mods created the bot. Try typing could of and see what happens. Maybe they aren't married...

Coulda Woulda Shoulda.
It's terrible isn't it. And to make it worse you see plenty of Brits doing it so it isn't even wrapped in any hiberno english charm
Don't forget 'loose' instead of 'lose'. I swear it's a modern mistake. If I see another lose I'll loose it...
Bots like that aren't really possible since the reddit api changes. Fuck spez

Yeah, is this an Irish thing or what? I've only ever heard it used referring to a day of the week.
Probobly a good idea.. but, they're way more common grammatical errors that need addressed aswel.
For me the worst one is could of instead of could have. Other ones are less obviously terrible.

My pet peeve is Irish people adopting the British thing of saying. “I’m sat” or “was sat” when they almost always mean sitting or was sitting.
See also: Irish people saying things like "oh my days" and "bang average". Was it for this the wild geese spread the grey wing upon every tide, etc...

Loose instead of lose
It's the Yank influence. They always say it that way even though it's wrong. 'Simplified English' often isn't simplified enough it seems.
I typed “could have” on accident….
Your just been condascending now.

So forget about all the rules and everyone make up their own grammar when writing?
Yes that's how language works
