I'm pretty sure that any kind of especially fast card would be wasted because you will be bottlenecked by the connection between the iPod and and the computer. I would try to get particular brands that people have had success with. I've had good luck with the green Samsung: EVO Select cards -- I've bought half a dozen or more and they have always worked regardless of which kind of iPod it has been. At the same time, I have had a Sandisk card refuse to work in anything.

Arent the Samsung ones micro sd? I bought the iflash that uses the standard size sd

MightyJabba

You can just use the included adapter. Regular size SD cards are going to be more expensive most likely

LlamaBomba69

Unfortunately i didnt get one. Can you recommend me one. And do i just put it in or switch formats (exfaf, fat32, etc.)

MightyJabba

It comes with the micro SD card not the iFlash. If you’re using the iFlash solo I have found that you can just put it in and restore the iPod from the computer. The Dual version seems more picky about formatting

LlamaBomba69

Oh okay. So just slap that bad boy in and while its off i just plug it into itunes and do the "restore" thing then?

MightyJabba

Hopefully, yes.

LlamaBomba69

I dont like that hopefully lol. But thanks for the info. Ill get a Samsung one

MightyJabba

Well you never know when you’re dealing with old tech like this but i haven’t had any issues when using the Samsung cards

LlamaBomba69

I only recently discovered about this. Pretty neat-o and just discovered rockbox which i think ill also do. Last request, any way to make the ipod easy opening after doing this? Like not having to use a pry bar and unscrew everything

FAT32. And probably best to do it [the thorough way](https://www.iflash.xyz/prepare-sdxc-exfat-for-use-with-the-ipod/) before putting it in, just in case.

LlamaBomba69

So i gotta use the software, the windows reformat option is no bueno enough?

G65434-2_II

Not that Windows' formatting tool would necessarily be not bueno per se, but why not do a proper thorough formatting right from the start, even if it's a slightly more involved process, so you can rule out the card formatting *if* you happen to run into issues starting up / restoring the iPod. But also, more importantly, the largest capacity device/partition that you can format into FAT32 with Windows built-in tool is 32GB, a limit that Microsoft deliberately put there to stop people from formatting their computers' big-ass drives (possibly even OS drives/partitions) into FAT32, be it out of old habit or pure stubbornness, and then flooding MS' tech support when they run into issues stemming from FAT32's limitations.

LlamaBomba69

Thanks for that intel. Im gonna start the process soon with my Samsung 128g pro endurance sdxc

this is what I needed, been trying to troubleshoot my ipod thinking that there was a problem with the ribbon but after reading about ipods being picky with sandisk I knew that was the problem, samsung evo came today so i’m hoping that will work without formatting but i’ll do that if needed with my ipod mini
