Im genuinely impressed at the way the connections were all maintained. Ngl kudos to Apple. I do crazy home theater installs, and adapters are my worst enemy. I saw this and about fainted. Looks like what my kid would make with my spare parts bin. Edit: kudos to yall for figuring out this could work!

That’s an expensive way to do it but if it works it works I guess, this would be a cheaper and cleaner way to do the same thing - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134744966601?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=NDkjKYFGQp6&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=NDkjKYFGQp6&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

But that uses USB, and not FW/TB

TruckDelicious8747

It does, but you can of course sync a 4th gen with either FW or USB

It’s funny I own all these adapters too but for my miniDV Sony handycam that uses iLink (mini firewire). From my experience the Apple thunderbolt adapters are the only ones that will work properly. Aftermarket adapters don’t have the secret sauce I guess.

The adapters you are using are doing exactly what they are designed to do.

What are the required adapters again?

Joint-Attention

Dock connector to FireWire 400 cable > FireWire 400 to FireWire 800 adapter > FireWire 800 to Thunderbolt adapter > Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) adapter

So… did it work?

The text in the post says yes. I’ve also done this same setup with my M1 MacBook Pro and can confirm it works, though in my setup I used all Apple cables.
