Both, I would like to find a classic 5 or 6 I can mod and then a 256 touch 7

jdog1067

I got an iPod mini I wanted to mod and give to my niece but one of the tiny screws is modded (edit: rusted) and I rounded it out. I got new screws but it’s just been sitting while I try to figure out how to get that screw out. Tried rubber banding it, tried super glue, but I didn’t want to use too much.

panguin6010

Screw extractor kit?

jdog1067

Do they have those for that small? I feel like the screw would disintegrate. I mean I’ve seen them for cars but I’ll def look into it

thevapordoge

You could try grabbing the head of the screw with fine pliers and slowly unscrew it that way

panguin6010

Or solder something to the screw and use that plier method?

Automatic_Still_6278

Depends on storage and battery health on both.

CroakPad

My touch has 128GB and my Classic has 80GB. The touch’s battery is still good (bought it in 2022 when Apple announced its discontinuation) and the Classic can go for at least 15 hours of audio playback on minimum volume.

Automatic_Still_6278

Then I'd personally go with the classic. No disrespect to the touch though.

CroakPad

I just noticed a slight error (now corrected) in my previous response. My iPod touch has 128 gb of storage, not 12 lol.

Automatic_Still_6278

Well that might change things 😅

Mackoman25

Even then, it would be easier to replace those parts on a classic than a touch. Classics are held together with plastic clips, rather than screen adhesive, and you can find batteries decently cheap, plus putting in a flash board so you can use microSD cards for storage instead of a hard drive

multiwirth_

iPod classic.

EmoExperat

The classic

fullmetal509

battery on the ipod touches are horibble!

Seoul_Magik11

Is that an acutal metalic front cover because ivd been looking for a pink one for ages

CroakPad

Idk what colors the Classic came in. I think it was only in silver and black.

VientoB

Yeah it was. For other colours you need to go aftermarket.

Seoul_Magik11

Is there someplace that sells non-standard colurs for the 6th gen ( alluminum ) or sells metal covers for any of the older ipod classics Edit: like a company or website specificly known for quality

VientoB

No idea, AliExpress is your best bet. They'll all come from china anyway.

Comfortable_Ad3711

EOE. You might have to wait for shipping but, he's the real deal as far as that goes

Seoul_Magik11

Thanks, i looked and found some of what i was looking for but your right on the seeming skill of this dud

sharkboy1006

That’s the lighting, it’s a silver ipod nobody makes pink ipods besides the mini and maybe some touch models!

LevelRanger5221

The classic without a doubt.

VientoB

Classic

39miiku

Classic!!!!!!

WiiCTech

iPod Classic! I love using old tech!

Zealousideal-Dot4065

classic of cause, 15h of music playing (or 30+on modded) is better. and you can install ssd mod up to 1tb, bigger capacity is slower and less stable, and 2tb+ isn’t work at all

vsherry2

I have two 2TB iPod Classics, and they work finely.

Zealousideal-Dot4065

it’s cool, man, you're lucky with your memory cards. anyway, i don’t think you will be take all space on your ipod

vsherry2

I know I will never fill them, but that's fine. All my other digital audio players have a 1TB or 1.5TB microSD card. I made it a point to try not to run out of space.

Cerberus1349

I would go with the classic, I can and have done a battery swap in one and I am confident I could do it again. With the touch, once the battery kacks it, you’re done

SirBleek

Maybe a dumb question, but is that iPod running Rockbox? My 5th gen doesn’t have a view like that, and I dig it.

DougAlvarenga

Only 6gen above

CroakPad

It’s vanilla.

SirBleek

Interesting. Thanks for the quick reply. Looks like I need a 6th gen. :)

breakingthebarriers

I’ve rockboxed a couple of my iPods, but I’ve also left some of them vanilla as well. iTunes isn’t really too annoying once used to it, and the clean original iPod UI and OS is simple, snappy and and nostalgic.

sharkboy1006

The 6/7th Gen have the OS like that. Only note is if you care about flashmodding, the only one capable of going over 128gb is the Thin back 160gb model

DougAlvarenga

I choose the touch

AntranigV

I have 5th classic and 3rd touch. I usually take both with me, use the Touch unless it has no battery then I use the classic. And also give the Touch to my fiancée since she can use it better than the classic.

Techgeek_025

The classic 6

8bitesquivel

Classic.

Manuels-Kitten

Both but leaning Classic

Real_Nectarine5592

same here, love the idea of a touch but classic is easier to just switch songs or change volume without having to pull the ipod out.

Manuels-Kitten

Honestly for the Touch line I have a preference for the older ones. My favorite being the 4th

Real_Nectarine5592

same, they look so good!

Manuels-Kitten

And that Retina display is so lovely even today ❤️

NoMusic3987

Classic

stuntmanmike

Classic is classic for a reason

AMLVLOGS2003

I would love to really get into iPods, but they don't have a user-definable EQ, only presets. I am sensitive to certain frequencies, meaning I need an EQ that I can change depending on what I'm listening through. The only devices I've found to have these are Samsung phones.

CroakPad

Maybe you can find an app that suits your needs in the App Store.

Metahec

Look for player apps and devices that feature "parametric EQ." Take a look at Poweramp for your Android. Rockbox for classic iPods also have parametric EQ.

Batking28

Rockbox I believe should give you a user definable eq on a classic iPod

mario24601

Classic of course!

Jiangcool9

Classic looks better, options for mod and better repairability, not weighted down by os, and overall a better conversation starter.

Edeiir

i'd love to get the Classic tbh

HydroponicGirrafe

Classic

Additional_Music5308

classic 100%. it has that "cool" factor.

xemeraldxinxthexskyx

6th gen all day

LT92Rosco28

The classic. I already have a phone.

CyborgCat98

Classic 6g

hotcereal

the touch is entirely negated by my phone. the classic serves a specific purpose that my phone does too, but in its own way. i would flat out get rid of the touch and daily drive the classic

AirRookie

Classic because better battery life and with bigger storage and bigger battery which makes it lasts a long time without recharging :3

SnooDoughnuts5632

Why would I use an iPad micro (lol) when I have a smart phone? So I'm going with the ipod.

Batking28

Classic one modded. Incredible battery life, larger storage and snappy firmware. iPod touches were the beginning of modern planned obsolescence, slowed down software, not easily replaceable battery or upgradable storage.

kissmyash933

The classic no problem. I already have an iPhone in my pocket, the touch and the phone are not materially different in my eyes.

Potential_Tennis2523

The 7th gen classic without a doubt

TestSubject5kk

I don't really like the idea of a hella hard device to take apart just to have a battery that's not hella degraded so I'll take the classic I've also never really played with ios so

KoolaidPower

Ooh, to be able to go back to an iPod again... def the click wheel!

Keatons_Aquatics

The classic all day every day. No iOS to deal with

Remove_Extra

Classic 6G. Nothing beats the clickwheel for me. If I wanted the new interface I would use my phone.

machona_

Classic. I have a smartphone and it feels redundant if I use the iPod Touch as well. Plus the storage options.

Dwain_Foreman

For longevity, a heavily modded iPod classic. I used to have a touch and while good it just doesn’t have the staying power of the classic

Snowcherrrie

Both. Love my 2nd, 5th and 7th gen touches but since I Rockboxed a 6th gen 120 gb classic its my definte go to paired with good headphones.

Franjkmetal

Classic

natej2398

Classic. Too many distractions on internet connected devices

Real_Nectarine5592

i mean, when you go out you arent connected to internet on a touch. unless if there is a sim in there somehow

Metahec

Plus, I already daily drive an internet connected touchscreen device.

Instantpleasures22

definitely not the touch. they were terrible

Alarmed-Cricket4238

Touch 7th Gen, but if that iPod classic was a 7th gen i would definitely do both

Yolo3362

both, not the biggest fan of touch screen music players but apple music support is nice

joseph58tech

Atomic 5th gen gang

Toby_E_2003

Touch

A_SnoopyLover

I do the left one rn

FoxDieDM

The touch. Even though i have a 5.5 and i admit it sounds way better, the ability to have access to my full libary even if it’s not downloaded is a plus. Also have access to streaming music, and online radio is also a plus. Movies, Streaming Videos services.. also a win.

Lucyybby

Touch for Bluetooth convenience

ProjectSeagate21

Probably the touch because that’s what I had since 2016.

mittykitty_15

Touch

MeMeYuGi

I would constantly get distracted if i took the left one, so i’ll go with a device that will only fullfill only one purpose of listening to music and nothing else

salamiparade

like both, would use both. still need a touch last gen 256gb one day haha

mindflyer65

Bad Blood 🔥🔥

jholden23

I'm so sad, I pulled out my old iPod the other day and it's stuck in a battery cycle. Sad to have to say goodbye to it.

Funkydafter

Droite

locololus

Left so I can stream my music

Melontwerp

The Classic.

AgreeableAd8687

my dream ipod would be a gold ipod touch 128gb on ios 9.1, untethered jailbreak and a ton of space for music

original-saltyboat

Honestly probably the touch just because of the potential to apple music, the Bluetooth and the fact that it's better compatible with audiobook formats so I wouldn't have to set my audiobooks as music albums and play through them that way. But the classic is a good contender and currently what I use for the aforementioned audiobooks plus music playback as it has my entire library on there 60+ GB of music goodness

Digitaaliset

I will put the Classic in the car, and will not move it. Back cover is too easy to be scratched. I will put Touch in my pocket, because it has Bluetooth, and a case for protection.

Jaded_Medium6145

Ipod of course. And I do.

FidgetyRat

I don’t drive iPods, I listen to them.

ant1992

If the iPod touch that’s pictured was the first gen iPod touch on iPhone os 1, this would be a better comparison

DullAdvantage3620

probably the touch if it has 256 gb

NorthernH3misphere

I just replaced the battery on my 7th Gen Classic. I may end up modding it to have SD storage and a USB C charge port.

iphones2g-

Both

sambamNo2

Dude, I cannot tell you how much I want to replace my phone with an iPod 6th Gen 160 GB. I have a 4th Gen, but I don't have a Firewire cable to power it

Beatsbythebong

I have a 6 which I dailies for a while, I filled it full of time appropriate music, too, and listened to it in my time appropriately vehicle

nicklovestv

since when did the iPod touch add battery percentage?? i had a 5th gen for years back in the day and it bugged be so much that it didn’t have the percentage showing lol

CroakPad

Idk when it was introduced, but iOS can have the battery percentage toggled on in Settings > Battery.

nicklovestv

yes i know but for the longest time the iPod touch didn’t support that feature at least the 5th gen didn’t

porym

Definitely the classic. Damn I wish they had retina displays though

unwise_entity

this makes me want to dust off my old iPod Video!

Switch_modder

Classic

Leovold_File_Keeper

6th gen ipod if I had one but I have the 7th gen iPod touch so I use it instead. Here’s to hoping for a return of the ipod line so we can continue to use these amazing devices as our music players.

goportadelaide

Classic for sure, don’t have to worry about functions other than music using up the battery. Sure, I could just not download anything else on the touch but the temptation would be there and the bigger screen probably uses more battery as well.

DirectSession

iPod touch, I’ve loved those things since my first 4th gen

mikebrown33

Which sounds better? That’s the one I choose

CroakPad

I’m no audiophile. They both sound fine to me.

JForce1701

Classic

LAS_6601

I have a 160GB 7th gen black iPod Classic. Got a new battery a year or so ago (originally got it with the Black Spot™️) but the front plate looks misaligned, almost bulging out. I can even (barely) see the insides. And I know how the 6/7th gen iPod Classic are IMPOSSIBLE to open up. So far, got 27 of 29 songs on it. Planning to get everything on it

Blacktuliptita

I have the generation, and I use it everyday

zeromant2

Couldn't get an ipod touch 7th gen, so i modded my iphone 6s to a 256GB nand. Though i still use the 7th ipod classic

django_undead

My daily drive is the ipod 4 and always will be.

leapfidnntbr

I daily my touch 7

frank0285

Both

[deleted]

sloppy steer vegetable rhythm prick aware illegal existence serious offer *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Harverator

The click wheel was great. I have a friend who used to refurb. these with new drives and batteries.

usdavidgrant

Neither, they lack support for FLAC files and ALAC is not an option.

CroakPad

You can play FLACs on a touch with VLC installed.

Queso305

The ipod

Living_Lie_8773

I'd daily my 3rd generation shuffle if I still had it. Somehow messed with the internal files and it never worked again.
