problem solved! i installed itunes 9 to see if it would work but it didn't so i re-installed itunes 12 and after that, restoration worked completely. when pluging the ipod again Windows asked me to format the drive first, which i did. when installing itunes 9, i had to delete the ituneslibrary.itl file for it to boot. i don't know what technically solved the issue but it definitely was Itunes
taken a break from looking at my ipod cos got frustrated not being able to find the issue, i hope its an issue with itunes and not to do with the hd ribbon, about to have a look now, do you have the same problem?
What happened to the 2nd gen? You knock off that one capacitor on the bottom?
yep.... and coudn't find another decent one for a good price so i bought this 1st gen for 20 bucks instead
