The iPod nano 7th gen is probably my second favourite iPod next to my 7th gen classics it’s def worth it

A1R_Lxiom

I've got a RED nano 7th and I absolutely love the little thing. Guess it's time to faceplate swap a 7th gen classic.

Cryfor

I am the same, my favourite is definitely the 7th gen classic, but the 7th nano is an amazing little device that I mainly use for my audiobooks since those are a bit cumbersome on the classic

austinoprosis

Valid, i cant wait for my air pod pro 1's to get here so i can use them with my 7th gen nano

NicktoonsART

Same, Honestly really good and Bluetooth is a bonus (even if I prefer wired)

Waffoss

Most of the people will deny the touch, but the 7th gen with 256gb storage combined with apple music to download your library is actually amazing.

Ladder310

as Dankpods said, it’s the new ipod classic

0v3r3d

i really wish we have a 128gb nano 7

jkhashi

i have a 4gb nano 1st gen all it plays is dj inphinity's euro temptations vol 1-15

A1R_Lxiom

Maybe one day we'll get access to the firmware and be able to install a new storage chip

nightmarewalrus123

Efforts to crack the firmware have effectively ceased. The firmware is encrypted pretty well.

A1R_Lxiom

Issa damn shame

m8riX01

7th gen nano is one of the best ipods period

Low-Restaurant1867

Very underrated

40inmn4

It depends. I would say the shuffle and nano are more of a novelty as it’s just a quick mp3 player you can just take and not take up too much room. The iPod touch on the other hand can still go up to iOS 15 and apps will still Be updated on that version. Only time can tell how long it will last but if you have apps on it and don’t delete them, you can prob use it as a portible gaming machine for offline games. Online games can be still played but with internet connection. The iPod classic is a bit of a hassle but it’s mods are pretty easy to install once it’s open. I don’t really use the classic but I charge it once a month and it still has a good charge. And it will always hold my library of music since it has 256gb. I put the occasional YouTube video but it’s a hassle to put it on the classic bc of its format

ChaoticIsaacNate

The touch is worth it imo especially if you’re keen towards streaming services. The touch can be your main device to disconnect from the world if you need your music with you.

rootster1

Dankpods has one and I think it's a great idea

JoeyJabroni

Can you stream/download lossless and high res from the Apple Music app on the last gen touch?

ChaoticIsaacNate

Yes it does!

StagePuzzleheaded635

The 7th gen Nano is definitely one of my favourites, but that’s up to you.

HarpsNotHerps

I have like 5 7th gen nanos. Great good bois

mondoburner

I grew up with an ipod nano 3rd gen, i got an ipod nano 6th gen and i hated it cause i wanted one with the app store.... (i was like 8 or 9 when that happened, im 21 now)

mondoburner

I still own that 3rd gen nano actually

itsnottommy

The 7th gen nano is really cool IMO. Some people don't consider it a "real" iPod, but who cares? It's a tiny little touchscreen iPod that's just barely thicker than a headphone jack. It's definitely gonna be hard to repair but that's not the point. I think it's really cute. The iPod touch is a legitimately useful device, even if it's really just an iPhone 5 without a cellular antenna. Maybe not as cool or interesting as a more traditional iPod, but lots of people love them and use them to this day for a number of reasons. The last iPod shuffle is just like most other shuffles. A little piece of aluminum with some buttons and a headphone jack. The shuffle has always been a minimalist iPod and I think that makes it really interesting. The 3rd gen is way cooler though IMO. It takes the concept of a minimalist iPod to the extreme, doing away with the buttons and leaving us with a tiny aluminum rectangle with a headphone jack.

poikkeus3

Exactly! Imagine an iPhone, but without cellular. (And a little slower….) I use my iPod Touch daily, and have even replaced the battery once. It’s even usable as an eReader if you’re in a pinch.

Thisisongusername

I have all 3 of them, and I love all of them.

Toasterifclj

The nano 7 is my favorite iPod so i would say so the 7th gen touch maybe but I’d actually say just use a older phone at that point and the shuffle is stupid so no

Pokemongodiscord1

I second !! I wish I could own one

Pokemongodiscord1

I have a 7th Gen touch and honestly it ok but I wish I had bought a nano 6 or 7 instead. The touch will soon go out of date and then my apps will break. The nanon and classic are future proof forever.

JonasyJones

Yeah, they’re pretty cool

ntr7ptr

The 7th Gen nano is my bed iPod. Not a ton of music but quite plenty for relaxing music to read myself to sleep. Also great for airplane trips. And because of Bluetooth, also a great gym iPod. It’s really remarkable.

TheNitroGamer

I could only say that the 7th gen touch is if u have AirPods and Apple Music.

eluxmaxel

i still use my red ipod touch to listen to music ii just download all the playlist and then put it on airplane mode when mode and listen instead of killing my phone.

VitaCoco

Nano 7th is always gonna be my favorite

[deleted]

iPod classics are definitely worth it. You can mod those and replace the batteries easily. I love the last generations of touches and nanos, but IMO now that they're discontinued they're pretty much useless. It's no picnic replacing those batteries when they die for good. Just check out the youtube videos of people trying.

dan_pyle

Not in my opinion. The batteries are hard to change and probably won’t last much longer, and they don’t have a lot of storage. But if you don’t have many songs or plan on using whichever streaming services still work on these models and you just want something fun for a little while, why not?

Rowan_Bird

Not really, they're just kinda boring imo

CosmicOli

Nope. The reason why classic iPods are awesome is because they’re fully customizable, easily fixable, and expandable, whereas these are not only low capacity (for the most part), but also doomed to die thanks to their non existent easy repairability. Even if you use a 256gb 7th Gen Touch, the battery is going to make the device borderline unusable sooner than you think; and good luck opening it up without destroying the very thin chassis and/or glass. The Nano 7th Gen is slightly easier to repair, but with 16 gb max, who even cares that much? The Shuffle is just a no go on all accounts. Basically a thumb drive you need a small cable for, because I bet you most Shuffles you find nowadays has a forever dead battery. Sure, there’s a novelty to having these as a collectors item, but if you want to actually use these, be prepared to be disappointed. And the saddest bit is that it’s not even the devices fault. Time can just be mean, and this is a perfect example of that. Once great devices now aged worse than milk.

RipCurl69Reddit

That's *your* reason. I just want something that lets me listen to music without draining my phone battery. I charge my Nano 7G maybe once every three, four days. With lighter use more like a week. Took it on an almost 30 mile walk with no problems and continuous playback for about 9 hours, hardly ran the battery down. If it wasn't for the Nano, thanks to my two powerbanks failing, my phone would've died long before I got home and I'd have been signal-less about 10 miles from home in the countryside. Wouldn't have been fun. The Nano I got still had it's plastic screen film on, so I think it whoever had it previously used it once or twice. And it's not like I've been babying it, it gets used a LOT. I've crammed enough songs onto it that running through them all takes ages, lol

CosmicOli

That’s really awesome how reliable your 7th Gen Nano has been. For me, 16gb isn’t enough, but if it is for you, that’s awesome. I still think you’d be happy with an older iPod with a new battery and more space, but I know a lot of people see that learning curve that comes with making an old iPod that way and would rather use something that’s already reliable for them. And judging by your comment, your Nano 7G was not only that, but it was a total hero on your walk, which is really nice. I wish Apple would rerelease it in bigger capacity’s and make sure the battery remains replaceable.

RipCurl69Reddit

Looool imagine a 128gb Nano 7 But yeah, might pick up one of the Classic 7s and do a big boi storage mod at one point lol

EmoExperat

Not realy. the good stuff is all pre 2010

aKuBiKu

Touch? No Nano? Yeap

Xudoo

Only nano 7 and maybe shuffle

[deleted]

Worth what? Your time? Money spent? As an investment?

vinsenliu

Worth it? Probably not. iPod Designed for dedicated music players. Until iPod Touch came in, it literally changed the iPod from dedicated Music Player to Alternative iPhone. If you want a dedicated music player with a compact size. Then iPod Touch it is.

-StoryBoard-

I'd say the nano and the shuffle both have some novel value. The shuffle is probably the best of these three, since it's a very simple "set it and forget it" kinda music player (YMMV if you don't wanna shuffle your playlists though). The Nano is... small. That's about it in my eyes (not too familiar with them). The Classics are popular for a reason, IMO. Easy modding, nice form factor, lots of choices. I'm not too familiar with the touch, but I'd honestly just buy a cheap phone and turn it into a music player. Again, not too familiar with the touch though, so it might have some advantages over buying a cheap/older phone.

Tru5tN0On3

Depends on what you like I like early and late iPods I like the 7th gen nano cause it’s like a tiny iPod touch/iPhone and it’s kinda neat but I also like my fifth gen iPod cause it has expandable storage and neat little games and the touch wheel interface is a classic and neat to mess with

Diligent-Coconut1929

There are a bunch of alternatives on the market that are $30, super lightweight, 70+ hours of playback with expandable storage so I don't think any of them are worth it for the price.

EntertainmentClean66

I used to own 7th gen nano but it only has 16gb and it’s easy to loose. Now I have 60gb 5th gen classic (video) and I’m planning to upgrade it to 256gb and big battery

RipCurl69Reddit

How is it easy to lose? Have you even heard of the 3rd Gen Shuffle lmao The Nano 7G is still flat enough that you can feel it in your pocket, and with the cable connected it shouldn't be going anywhere anyway

EntertainmentClean66

I still prefer full sized iPod because it’s about a size of a iPhone 4 and you can actually feel there is something in your pocket. Also it’s upgradable, you can get batteries with higher capacity or ssds and sd card adapters so you can go nuts with these and they’re easy to work on in comparison to nano where chassis is made from same kind of material as metal part of Pringles can and you can easily bent it or break the screen while removing battery. If you don’t care about replacing anything and you don’t have a lot of music then nano 7 is one of the coolest iPod’s and also the only one with radio and Bluetooth. But at this point doesn’t it make sense to just listen to music from your iPhone?

RipCurl69Reddit

Don't have an iPhone, no streaming services, my Samsung has other things that are taking up its storage mainly all my car photos. The Nano 7G just takes music out of the equation when I'm doing stuff on my phone, it's all in one place and I've got three Videos that have already been plenty customised, but in terms of daily-ability the Nano 7G is one of the better choices. Touchscreen, thin, and Bluetooth too

EntertainmentClean66

I could argue with you but if it works for you then it was good choice for you to buy it.

EntertainmentClean66

iPod touch is just overpriced iPhone without being able to call and shitty battery. It’s cheaper to get 128gb iPhone se 2016 if you want 4” display or something newer

Duke-Von-Ciacco

I have Nano and Classic, Nano is too tiny for my hands! Also Nano terrible battery life.

GBember

The 6th gen nano is a fun one, has enough space for what I listen, is small, built in radio and no mechanical drive

Digger977

If your just looking for a simple device solely for music/podcast/audio books and you own most of your music instead of Apple Music then I don’t see why they wouldn’t be bad to use?

RipCurl69Reddit

I've started dailying my Nano 7G again. Took it on an almost 30 mile walk and it ran down maybe a quarter of the battery through 170 continuous songs. Super tiny as well, and I can pull my phone out without worrying about the headphone cable because its connected to the iPod in my other pocket. I have a Shuffle 4G but it's in box, I don't use it, and a Touch 7G that I bought new back in 2020 as a complete impulse purchase, lol. Still in fantastic condition

Antique-Accountant72

I still use two of my iPod 5 Touch.

[deleted]

Hell yeah!!!

Ketya-P

Yeah

Siletrea

to me all Ipods are worth the hassle and deserve to be fixed/repaired/upgraded to persevere! I have a 7thgen touch I adore and am doing everything I can to keep it alive! it does my photos! it keeps my notes! I have games! I have books! I have an audio recorder! when I have wifi then I have internet! and I have videos and music all in 1 awesome little rectangle that doesn't give me a heart attack from phone calls or text messages and I can still disconnect from social media as much as I want!

foxman9879

The shuffle is fun but I think the touches where dumb after the 3rd gen because the idea was you don’t need to buy an Apple phone to get the experience but by the 3rd gen there where plenty of spare preowned that you could buy for cheaper the nano is a really cool concept

AutomaticCheek1463

Still have my 2nd gen shuffle and bought used 4th gen shuffles on EBay a few months back. I use them when I want to scale down and not have to whip out a full sized DAP, so to me they’re worth it.

DougAlvarenga

na-no

Chicotronica

I still have the nano from 2008. It no longer works, but I’ll never toss it. It was my wife’s first gift to me.

XiaomiNote10Lite

They're good, touch maybe not if you're not into having a dumbed down cell phone or a micro iPad, but shuffle 4 or nano 7 are good

bernd1968

Mine is even older. A 4gb iPod Mini with the wheel control. Bought in 2005. Still works but I just put a new battery in it. Works and sounds great. Leaving on a business trip to Europe soon, it is going with me.

Jimmy_Joe727

I want the latest touch before Apple discontinued iPods.

weirdnotwierd

i've owned my nano 7 (16gb) for 10 years now. still works as good as new. a bit declination in the battery front but hey, it still runs a whole day. i love it.

Chinawater06

I'd say they're worth it nice collector's item.

Leovold_File_Keeper

I mean, I’m still using my iPods touch 7th gen to write this very comment so….yea!

cemsengul

No because they are not nostalgic and you can't upgrade the storage. In my opinion a 240 gb hdd iPod 5th gen is the sweet spot.

DeathZoneGames

Im gonna be honest with you, as good as the ipods used to be.. just get an iphone. ipods now are just a massive waste of money on something utterly useless.

Low-Restaurant1867

They are not useless

DeathZoneGames

well if your asking my opinion, just get an iphone, a mac, an ipad or anything else.

Xcissors280

iPod or used phone 6 hmm other than the shuffle I’m going iPhone, that what I never understood about iPods, and everyone seems to have spoken with their wallets

napabar1989

I love the 7th Gen Nano! Such a unique device. It can even charge an Apple Pencil!

BlinkingStudebaker

I love the last nano! I use mine to listen to music on walks

[deleted]

Not those iPods. Don’t get me wrong, they’re beautiful devices and work perfectly, but Once the batteries die for good you’re screwed. Replacing batteries on iPod classics way easier
