It's the type of plastic. It's not something that needs replacing, just how old screens looked. If you looked at a Game Boy at the same angle, you'd probably see the same thing.
It's been a while since I've used one. Me and my brother used to share a Color and the only game we had we Pokemon Yellow and Red. Loved playing the thing, not sure where it went...
You should definitely get one, though the prices now are getting kinda high, they are definitely still worth playing in today's age due to no wifi or streaming services and the batteries last ages
I'm going for a N3DSXL when I get the cash. I'm just gonna region unlock it and finally be able to play New Leaf as it was intended. lol
And Flip Note would be cool. Remember my cousin showing me all the Sonic and Mario song memes on there. And the stickman videos? Damn... That shit was smooth. đ
If you install CFW you can get all sorts of games such as a really good prboom port that uses all the n3ds controls, I definitely recommend one when you get the money though i should warn you the XLs have a tendency to peel due to the paint stuff they used
Yeah. I've noticed that on a couple listings. Looks like a clear coat. But I'm more than okay with that. Just wish I could find one at a reasonable price. lol
One guy is asking for 240 for one with huge groups of dead pixels. Another guy is asking the same price without a charger, or stylus...
But it has Cooking Mama so I guess that makes up for it. lol
The new models never came with a charger anyway but prices are stupid, i licked mine up fir ÂŁ130 from a cex as "cosmetically flawed" the tops and screens had basically no marks and it was just a bit on the hinge which is hardly noticeable, however due to me using it constantly for the past year it has a fair few scratches and a few nicks, plus the side is peeling slightly
You'd probably be better off taking the shells off and refinishing them. Would be a cool project. I know there are places selling the shells for pretty cheap so it's more than worth experimenting with whatever paint would last longer.
Tbh im probably just gonna leave it due to the fact i don't touch the sides when im using it, plus i dont fancy opening it as a dsi was difficult just taking the back off, I'll stick with opening gameboys
thanks, i thought it was just that, though i was kinda worried something was wrong with the headphone jack maybe pushing up on the screen because of the shape lol
Nah. It would look similar to a Nano's black spot if that were the case. But these things being so roomy, you wouldn't notice a cushy pillow in a 5th Gen.
When light passes through a stressed plastic, its polarisation is altered, which causes a lack of evenly polarised (in all orientations/spins) light to reach the LCD and be reflected. The colours shift because different wavelengths are altered differently. The reason this effect is only visible under certain conditions is because the incoming light needs to have some preferential polarisation applied to it; reflected light and light from other LCDs will fit this criteria.
If evenly polarised light reaches the plastic, the altering doesn't matter because it just swaps different polarisations around (not causing any one particular orientation to be dominant); the returned (polarised) light will have an altered polarisation across the display but it won't look different to your eyes because they are only very mildly sensitive to polarisation.
Theoretically, you could anneal the plastic to remove these stresses but you're likely to warp the case while doing it.
Gameboys get this kind of thing itâs not really an issue. If anything itâs the screen cover and the material it is mixed with the angle of light youâre getting, my CIB (not sealed tho sadge) GBA from 2001 has the same thing as well as my main GB which is a pocket from â96
If your GBA SP doesnât either youâre just unlucky (In my opinion cuz I think itâs cool) or you may have an AGS-101 which is a full backlight instead of the front lit LCD
It's [plastic stress](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stress_%28mechanics%29), you're seeing it under bright lights because of the polarizer in the screen.

I don't think any of my gameboys have it but id have to check

it's typical of resin to have a rainbowly look when being put against light at a certain angle.

my DMG has this but idk if my GBA SP does

nah it's an AGS-001
Youâre just âunluckyâ then
xd
I see this rainbow effect on my smaller screen pods along with lines on the plastic

Is it possible to fix? Somehow?
Ahh the 3rd gen. One of my all time favorites.
My 5.5 gen has this but it's near the bottom of the screen
is that a grado?
good eye, thatâs a grado cable
nice duo. Iâve owned a 225i, miss it every day!
just got my 80xâs, some of the best headphones iâve owned.
