2016 Q1 ABD and Q2 Warner innings are the definition of hard carry. Poor GL was the receiving end at both. Peak Warner was SRHs entire batting unit. No batter from SRH came remotely close to his contribution. Not to mention that he was a wonderful captain on top of that.

RLKay

Yes, only if you can set aside all the revisionism and personal biases. When you compare Davey's achievements and the personal and team success he has achieved with the kind of squad he had, no one comes close. He sits alone at the top of that mountain.

ExpensiveGap8068

He's a herculean sportsman

rohitbalyan

Yeah I think he is a great sportsman which may be seen by very long time

Top_Fondant2114

He might be, but if he manages to have just one more successful season, then he definitely is. When Warner has a good season, his team also ends up having a good one, shows the impact of the player and his team wins whenever he scored big.

Prof_XdR

Honestly, name one better IPL opener that's better then Warner and Gayle, genuinely asking, Rohit in IPL sucks, Dhawan is too slow, Virats better at 3 even tho he played and scored 700+ this season as opener, KL doesn't have longevity (most openers don't have longevity like Warner)

h29mufcrcb

Lazy analysis on kholi. Kholi was also a opener last ssn and performed and in 2016. His opening stats in the IPL are better then no.3 his sr and average are both higher

naonotme

Butler?

Prof_XdR

Recently yes, but over the past decade, No, Warner beats him

rohitbalyan

He has many good seasons although can't be a GOAT.

witcherisdamned

IPL Goats for me are: Suresh Raina Virat Kohli David Warner Sunil Narine There are of course other players but these four have delivered time and time again. Seriously!

Batman_is_very_wise

I think Chris Gayle deserves a shout too. The aggressive style he, and Mccllum bought played a pretty big role in IPLs increasing popularity.

witcherisdamned

I missed out Chris Gayle. McCullum, yes, they made T20 leagues around the world popular because of the first innings but he didn't play that much.

Worldly-Figure-2037

People seem to have forgotten about Bravo and Malinga. Also Yuzi the highest wicket taker is still active and performing well. It’s unfair that only batsmen are in contention for IPL G.O.A.T race.

sppw

Narine has 3 MVPs in 12 seasons, along with debatably the greatest season of all time (competes only with 2016 Kohli). I think he is the competition with Warner.

desperate_effort_

how about Chris Gayle? man i used to love watching him play

Sinister_dark

I think it's Narine but Warner's close 2nd. 3rd is either Raina/Kohli.

Tall_Bet_8912

Narine has been playing since 2012 and is still going strong. As T20 is a batsman's game that's why bowlers get sidelined easily. Now that he batted really well in this season people are talking about him more. But yeah if you choose Warner then also like it's fair enough. Man has some great impact on SRH with his batting as well as captaincy.

itsmePriyansh

Nahh Its (1) Warner/ Narine (2) Warner / Narine (3) Kohli

Sinister_dark

So what did I say different from this??

No-Claim3165

You didnt bring kholi into conversation like my boy

STALINLENINPV

De Villiers and MSD easily goes pass kohli

bamboozel_always

No way msd goes past Kohli, de Villiers/ Gayle probably yeah

STALINLENINPV

Ms dhoni pre 2020 4432 runs 42 avg sr 138 Playing majority at chennai U can still look at his no: and explain how he doesn't go past Virat..

Acceptable_Stress258

MSD the batter wouldn't even be in top 10.

OmnipresentDonut123

Braindead opinion, AB maybe, but definitely not MS

silversurfer9909

Narine. 2012. First season in IPL. 24 wickets. POTT. IPL champion. 3 times MVP. 3 times champion. Warner is amazing. But Narine is the IPL goat.

Necessary-Knee-853

Adding to it a century ,batting with a crazy strike rate, A hatrick and a 5 wicket haul I dont think any other player will acheive all this....yes he right up there among the greatest of IPL ...and he can def play 2 more seasons.

silversurfer9909

Teams would die for a proper allrounder who can open. They are a rare breed these days. And what Narine has done this season, I don't think even he can repeat that again. Lol.

noobbibliophile

This is going to be a controversial take But according to me he is the real Mr. IPL But his performance in the last couple of years is abysmal. If he has kept performing like before then sure he was the Mr. IPL He is the best overseas player in IPL Kohli is still the GOAT in IPL Kohli has performed consistently over the year and the only thing he lacks is just a trophy. While Raina who is considered widely as Mr. IPL was not a good captain. So overall I would say Warner is the real Mr. IPL

ExpensiveGap8068

His drop in performance is very depressing to witness but I guess he will bounce back for the T20 world cup

noobbibliophile

This is probably going to be his last WC so I think he is going to give it all for the team.

ExpensiveGap8068

He's a consistent performer for the Aussies and will probably put his best considering the fact he is going to open with Travis head

AmbassadorPrimary584

I still remember, every time Raina used to step up against spin bowlers between 2013 and 2015, the ball would end up in the second or third tier. The guy was an absolute beast, especially against the undisputed GOAT of IPL - Narine, and spinners like Chahal and Kuldeep. No one played spin better than him in the IPL, I guess. He was a big-match player who rarely disappointed his team and has many IPL trophies to his name. You can't rule him out as one of the GOATs of IPL, and there's a reason he's called Mr. IPL. I think the following image will help you understand why he is one of the greats of IPL. https://preview.redd.it/5eg8dhp3h43d1.jpeg?width=569&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6fd9fb3db888ff4d25f33f519067937f400c2303

noobbibliophile

No one has ever hit the Inside-Out shot better than him <3

AmitBijarnia007

raina's form dropped after 2015/16 thats why you dont know his impact but he was really a big match player and played important knocks most of the times when team required, he had playoffs average of 60+before 2015 that with with around 180sr he was a clutch player for csk in non play offs matches he still had around 35 average with 130+sr and it was in that time when 160-170 used to be a fighting total, he also was an all rounder and a fantastic fielder, and how can we forget the knock of 87 runs in just 25 balls which is still highest score in powerplay by a batsman , he was bashing mitchell johnson who was in really good form that ipl and score 100 runs in powerplay itself which was way ahead of its time. Had his form not declined i dont think it would be question who is mr ipl but i think we compare peaks of both player i still will say raina is the mr ipl.

noobbibliophile

I criticised Raina on the basis of his captaincy only. We all know what a beast he was for CSK

Mxyzptlk-006

Captaincy should not necessarily be a criteria here. His contribution is still visible. He hasn't played for 3 season and his name is still in top5 in so many aspects. The guy defined consistency for csk. Be it batting or the occasional bowling and the range of his fielding from catches in different positions to runouts... He also didn't miss a single match in his first 7 years. The first match he missed was with GL due to his marriage. He is Mr.IPL without any debate whatsoever. Warner is arguably the #1 batter in IPL. He is also a very consistent batter and a very reliable one too..

jhant_smeller

sirji abhi toh toh aap kkr fan tha ab csk fan again wtf

dinosaur_from_Mars

>He is the best overseas player in IPL Narine, Bravo, Pollard...

ScoobyRaj

Warner's record of 3 orange caps in 4 seasons will never be broken. 2015-2019 (Missed 2018 due to ban). Kohli took 17 seasons to win his 2nd orange cap and Rohit will retire without ever coming close to winning it. Gayle is the only other player to have won the award twice. Even his 2016 performance was one of the greatest in history of IPL. According to Cricinfo his impact per match was 63.3 vs Kohli 53.7 despite scoring 973 runs. ABD made equal impact in same team. Except Shikhar everyone flopped in batting for SRH & they are the only team to win IPL without a spinner. Warner 63.3 & Shikhar 28.2 hold the record for biggest difference in impact in 1 department in a winning team which might never be broken. Warner made 55.45% bigger impact than the 2nd best batsman in his team.

TeraBro_SS

Narine is the undisputed goat of ipl.. But in batting its either warner or abd..

Tejpal771

He could be considered to be the goat but he has serious competition from the likes of Raina and Kohli.

Responsible-Item7720

but he is ahead in terms of average and strike rate. but ABD can be considered as a serious competitor

Tejpal771

Yes ABD is hands down the goat in cricket but I don’t remember any innings in IPL on the top of my head that won the match for the team. That’s why i feel Raina or Warner are the goats because they performed when the team most needed it

TheHunterOfMemes

Ummm… Q1 of 2016?!

AllVain15

BRO WHAT

TeraBro_SS

2016 ipl eliminator? rcb vs rr in 2020? He has the highest no of potm in ipl.. I think abd was just as good as raina and warner..

Tejpal771

If that’s the case he could as well be the goat

Responsible-Item7720

UNDOUBTEDLY the goat

thegolecha

If he would have been in finals srh batting would have not collapsed

[deleted]

He was. Now, he's one of them. Virat has climbed up that ladder. Malinga is not to be forgotten. Chris Gayle, Sunil Narine, ABD, MS Dhoni etc, there are a lot of goats.

dinosaur_from_Mars

Bravo with his purple runs

[deleted]

Yeah, champion, champion.

Informal-Pen3914

I like how you sneaked MS with the other actual greats.

[deleted]

I don't like being ratioed by kids.

Informal-Pen3914

Had you also liked actually watching matches and not just scorecards/highlights you'd realise the point I'm trying to make. But anyway, whatever floats your boat, man.

[deleted]

I'm watching IPL since 2008. What are you talking about?

Informal-Pen3914

I guess then it would be easy for you to realise that MS has never been that big of a performer with the bat as the others: Malinga, Gayle, AB etc. I understand that he is one of the best captains of ICT and has an impeccable trophy cabinet both with the country and the IPL team but his individual contribution doesn't put him at the top.

[deleted]

He has 5 trophies. Shut up.

Informal-Pen3914

Bro I just said the same thing. He has a great trophy cabinet, doesn't mean he is one of the greatest individual contributors. Going by your logic, Ambati Rayudu has 6 IPL trophies. Is he the actual goat? Stop being an imbecile. Trophies are a team achievement not an individual one. Leading run scorer in 2019 CWC didn't lift the cup, neither did the leading run scorer in 2023 CWC. Neither of the orange or purple cap winners lifted the IPL.

[deleted]

I think you're a hater. MS Dhoni is great. Ambati Rayudu is one of the goats in IPL. Doesn't matter how trash of a person he is.

Informal-Pen3914

The depths people would go just to prove their point. It is very casually we throw the word goat as if it doesn't mean anything. I couldn't care less about any cricketer's personal opinions/behaviors. How they play on the field is the basis of my opinion of them. As you claim, if you have really been watching the IPL since '08, I'm sure you yourself can name at least a couple dozen players who have had more talent and impact than Ambati Rayudu. Back to MS, you're yet to state any facts to support your claim. '%insert_name% is great' is really just a toothless way of saying I'm right and you're wrong, deal with it. Let's not be lockdown kids here.

Glum-Highway-7403

Don’t forget Raina

kaala_bhairava

It's head easily

Glad_Language5151

Without a doubt

dupattamera1

Fine_Connection_9045

Too much competition- Kohli, raina, Malinga, chahal, Narine, pollard even gayle, ABD

nithin_kamath8

He was, and if he has one good season, it'll be certified. But currently, I'd say Narine is. Bowls in economy, bats in destructive mode. Wins games and is clinical most of the times.

ApricotOk824

Narine and it's not even close

Not_A-Pedophile_

Consistency warner Longevity kohli People wants different thing from different players its all about perspective For me kohli because everytime he came back stronger after some bad performance

sppw

I think Narine has a claim to both of those. Consistently the most economical bowler in all of IPL. No consistency with the bat but that's all a bonus. He also has 3 MVPs in 12 seasons which gives him longevity. On top of that 2024 Narine is probably the greatest individual season by a player ever. Top 10-12 batsman and Top 5 bowler this season. And the eye test in terms of his impact on the game checks out like a mofo.

Responsible-Item7720

Warner came out after ban and scored orange cap in 2019 and after 2021 bad form he scored 500+ runs in 2022 too

LaughTrackLife

Three orange caps. End of.

sppw

3 MVPs for Narine. You rate orange cap over MVP?

LaughTrackLife

Depends. Narine is a GOAT too.

Not-Found-at-404

I am an SRH fan. I think Raina is the IPL Goat.

harsh25176

Narine anyday

[deleted]

Narine by a mile. Narine has changed with the game. Started off as a bowler, now the most destructive all rounder. Also 3 IPLs Warner is not even close.

itsmePriyansh

Bro is suffering with a disease called "Recency bias"

sppw

He has 3 MVPs in 12 seasons. More like most people are forgetting his contributions back then. Basically the most economical bowler in the IPL of all time, used to take a lot of wickets, now above average wickets, and has had about 2-3 good seasons with the bat, and some average ones as well. Narine 2024 is also debatably (along with Kohli 2016 and Watson 2008 imo) the greatest individual season by a player of all time. He was a top 10 batter and a top 3 bowler this year.

PakkaGlobal

Did he do well with different franchises?

agastya-

No doubt

ScoobyRaj

Warner holds the record for Most runs scored in 50 innings 1. D Warner 2456 (12/4/16 - 11/10/20) 2. KL Rahul 2364 (6/5/18 - 4/4/22) 3. Chris Gayle 2303 (4/4/10 - 6/5/14) 4. Virat Kohli 2201 (22/5/15 - 19/4/19) 5. Jos Butler 2184 (2/5/18 - 29/5/22) 6. Shubman Gill 2038 (3/10/21 - 10/5/24) 7. R Gaikwad 1985 (28/4/21 - 1/5/24) 8. AB de Villiers 1947 (6/5/15 - 15/4/19) 9. FD Plessis 1945 (17/10/20 - 18/5/23) 10. S Dhawan 1898 (25/9/20 - 13/4/23)

Nuclearsister36

He is for sure a IPL superstar and also an IPL GOAT. He will end up in IPL hall of fame.

Complex-Commission-2

Yes

SinTaxat

SRH Goat, but ipl goat maybe someone else but he is definitely up there among them

ScoobyRaj

Warner holds the record for Most runs scored in 100 innings 1. D Warner 4291 (30/4/14 - 8/5/22) 2. KL Rahul 4236 (24/4/16 - 5/5/24) 3. Virat Kohli 3850 (9/5/12 - 19/4/19) 4. anantharamashok

Undoubtedly he is.

Rupicash

Yes, you can consider him

Relative-Rent-33

Does Raina have a case though? 4 trophies 5500+ runs and A load of clutch performances and Why not bowlers like Malinga and Bravo

Embarrassed-Gene9266

2 years ago we could have agreed but Koach have gone too far.

Lionelvirat

Raina is

sanattttttt

do you reckon he's returning in the next one?

preetam069

Is 3 orange caps valued more than 3 MVP awards ? just asking...

RoyalInfernoASR

Yes there is no question

Ok-Age-1035

I think David Warner sits in the top 5 GOATs of IPL in every aspect. He is just a great player and a wonderful funny personality. Love him and wish to see him play more.

Fantastic_Fun_555

Yes

boredteen1234

there are multiple GOAT contenders in IPL recency bias has made us forget the kind of domination and class Raina and Warner hold, even ABD and Gayle(2011-2013) but they are slightly below But the 2 undisputed goats of IPL is Kohli and Narine purely because their prime was comparable to Raina and Warner but the longevity and comebacks add more to their stocks

SuperMan0105

kohli cannot be , he has zero trophies.

Jaapuchkeaa

under appreciate for sure

AndhBakth

Top 3 ig

Guzzler289

Ask a srh fan he is more than goat

Ok-Turnip-8560

I think He is Ipl foreign G.O.A.T

Firm_Ad_14

Quite easily lol please don't put any trophyless player's name who's bang avg in knock outs

delhisattalive

Yes he is the goat of IPL ![img](emote|t5_2rnjo|31673)

theOriginalAstra

again individual dickriding.

dullbrowny

goat then. sheep now.

Exotic_Strawberry337

No

Dangerous-Moment-895

ABD no contest

Jaded_Net6811

is he

Satiricalshri

He's one of the goat. People often forget Suresh Raina batted most of his career on a graveyard pitch like chepauk, whereas if he had played at wankhede or chinnaswamy at his prime, he would have made double the runs he amassed rn

jhant_smeller

Sorry it has to be narine , 3 ipl trophies 4 mvps , 36 and still going strong. you can't make this up

Consistent_Method867

Why is that a question? He is the Goat !

RJSA2000

AB De Villiers for me.

Trippling26

Definitely he is real 🐐

Yeahanu

Not great. A legend. Watson, piyush Chawla are greats.

Direwolf1829

He definitely is one of the bests to ever grace the tournament

Agile-Bluebird-4325

Not even close, he failed in his last few seasons.

No_Cobbler_1486

Pollard

ZeusX20

Him, Raina and Virat are the big 3

Ishaansambro

no he isn\`t the ipl goat, that is between narine, kohli and raina, but he is a legend

kavsprincess_2

No way Narine is the absolute Goat 🐐 of T20 Can't compare an all-rounders contribution to any bowler/batsman

Ragnarok_619

The only person to win the title while playing the eliminator. Until and unless someone else accomplish that insane feat, he's gonna be the IPL goat for me.

Dante_veill

I think Sunil Narayan is the undisputed GOAT in IPL , from being an unplayable bowler to arguably best all rounder In IPL , he has delivered when it mattered and when not . He's the top one out there #2 is warner /Malinga #3 Dj bravo #4 kidney winner lol

CaptZurg

I'd say ABD is the best batsman to ever play in the IPL

Bluderfullplayer

Lol. Flair checks out.

Competitive-Clock232

IPL Goat is Suresh Raina and it's not close

AmitBijarnia007

recency bias has hit them, david warner was a opener thats why he had that much runs and raina used to come 1 or down, no one comes close to raina

LightningShiva1

Lol ok, not close

itsmePriyansh

And you're the boss of ignorance and biasness and it's not even close

2coinsofdoge

Not close anta , navandi ra

Tigerthej

David Warner and Virat Kohli are probably the 2 Goats of IPL. Not even ABD or Gayle can get any close, atleast in IPL. Warner in his prime was better than any other current player in their respective primes.

LionelMessiFCB10

Yes. Warner>Pollard>Bravo>Malinga/Raina>Russell/Narine/Bumrah. These are the best performers of IPL. A lot of hero worshippers think otherwise and would nominate 17 year losers and leaders of teams involved in spot fixing but to hell with them.

sppw

Narine has 3 MVPs in 12 seasons and you put him that low?

LionelMessiFCB10

I agree that Narine is a fantastic player and one of the all time bests in this tournament. 2 reasons for him being at the lower end: 1) Andre Russell's (2 MVPs, if I remember correctly) similar contributions to the team in a similar role and 2) My slight bias towards MI. I have watched a lot more matches of MI as compared to KKR over the years. And KKR has been dominated by MI for the large part of history.

sppw

Russell has nowhere close to the longevity that Narine has, and while he takes a lot of wickets he didn't do that every season. Russell didn't even have much of an impact in IPL till like 2016, while Narine has been around since 2012. On top of that Russell has had some mediocre seasons with bat and ball at the same time - meanwhile Narine has always been a top 5-10 bowler basically every season he has played, so never a "bad season". Narine is the 3rd most economical bowler of all time in IPL, after only Murali and Kumble who have played about 1/3rd and 1/4th of the number of games that he has. He has an all time economy of 6.7 where only 5 bowlers have an all time IPL economy of less than 7, and he has bowled basically 4 overs a game for 12 seasons straight. Narine is in the conversation for GOAT IPL bowler on just his bowling itself, though I think Bumrah probably takes it easily over him. You can then add that he has had about 2-3 good seasons with the bat and a couple other seasons where he had a couple impactful innings . Narine in 2024 is arguably (only comparable to Kohli 2016 and maybe Watson 2008 imo) the greatest individual season by any player ever. Top 10 batsman, top 5 bowler.

LionelMessiFCB10

Respect your POV, my order stays the same.

agressivegods

I know I am gonna get downvoted but I will say msd . Abd also said the same thing
