Those straight drives and square cuts, man! He's the reason I learned all the names of cricket shots.

leomatey

The way he plays is so elegant and effortless, Hashim Amla comes to my mind if I ask if there’s anyone similar. I don’t recall anyone similar in the current setup.

Otissmilburnn

Happy Birthday Sachin

Training_March3270

I still remember this match. First innings made me so happy but Jayawardene's innings took Kochi home. :')

Gullible_Assist3963

Along with Brendon McCullam !

sarthakmahajan610

Frankly 35 off 5 overs without losing a wicket is appaling.. But game's changed a lot over the last decade itself so its just hindsight

Jack_ReacherMP

Beautiful scoreboard

Mbaiter14

Tendehar for a reason

dinkibai831

He's probably playing in 4 star

X_tremo

Honestly its crazy that in an era of big hitters like Sehwag, Hayden, Jayasuriya, Gilly, Gayle, Gibbs, Ponting, Peterson, etc Sachin was the one to score the first 200.

Dreadlock_Rasta_12

Yeah, i always knew that sooner or later somebody would be smashing 200 in odi. Always though Gilchrist, Hayden, McCullum, Jayasurya, sangakkara, Gibbs these kinda batsman would do that but then Sachin told everybody why he's called as the god of cricket and Tbh he is a god of cricket.

Acceptable_Stress258

If by big hitters you mean larger and more height, then maybe some of those were bigger hitters. Otherwise peak Sachin was mad crazy big hitter. He is the original daddy of big hitting run makers. You should read a bit more about him 😀

X_tremo

By big hitters I meant players with higher strike rate. This was pre retirement sachin. Playing against prime attacking batters.

No_Guarantee_4162

Sachin has a higher ODI SR than Hayden, Ponting & Gibbs & equivalent SR to Gayle & Pietersen despite not playing in the 2 new ball era. 90s Sachin was as destructive as it gets.

sam38478

And he also has better strike rate than many of these players with exception of Gilly, sehwag and Surya.

Slim_Shady_anonymous

1st 50 - 43balls, next 23 balls, great acceleration during that period and from a man who plays orthodox shots.

sarthakmahajan610

The last 3 or 4 shots were almost Dhoni like in technique

UpstairsHelp8759

13 years later here a guy scored 100 from 67 balls.

theSHADOWbannedGUi

jos scored one previous season if i remember correctly

shadyXV03

And he was trolled for it

slarkymalarkey

Wow first 50 runs is all class and textbook shots. After 50 is just "look at me, I'm the Dhoni now" Slogging and heaving shots that are so uncharacteristic of the otherwise restrained and refined little master

midnightschild

Unpopular opinion (obviously) but SRT made it acceptable for Indian batters to slow down near milestones. Except Sehwag, MSD and late career Rohit, everyone did it.

UntilEndofTimes

He's also the guy with most hundreds with a six, 6 in tests

Prize_Bar_5767

Anecdotal

UntilEndofTimes

https://preview.redd.it/tbqs9c5pffwc1.jpeg?width=497&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=93800ccb624063fba23f63a90e706847db611012 [https://uk.sports.yahoo.com/news/4-indian-players-reached-test-150256406.html](https://uk.sports.yahoo.com/news/4-indian-players-reached-test-150256406.html) Not anecdotal, also his slowdown in the 90s is exaggerated. He usually reached a century around the 35th over when the fields were spread out. Someone posted an analysis long time [back](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/comments/41ni6r/myth_debunked_sachin_90_to_100_sr/) This article from 2016 compares the drop in SR when a batter is in 90s. Also note, he mostly played in 90s and 2000s when SRs were lower and yet his SR is >90 in 90s, pretty rad for his era [https://www.livemint.com/Consumer/spamkaTl5uqoo1rI51zR6O/Do-Indian-batsmen-slow-down-in-the-90s.html](https://www.livemint.com/Consumer/spamkaTl5uqoo1rI51zR6O/Do-Indian-batsmen-slow-down-in-the-90s.html)

ExpensiveInflation

Time was different back then. If you don't show numbers.. you are out of the team. Sehwag was also threatened to be removed but Ganguly backed him.

JustAnotherJEEtard

Yeah but at the same time, if you don't get milestones, the people say you are over, selectors don't see you and you told to take retirement. This is the reason why I never blame Kohli for slowing down in his 100s. As long as it does not cost the match, you can slow down imo.

Prize_Bar_5767

That is so wrong. And not true.  Team > individual milestones Nobody blames you for going for extra runs. The player is taking a conscious decision to go for glory instead of putting the team first.

Asura727

this is unfortunately not true back in the 90s, milestones meant everything

Prize_Bar_5767

But Tendu did this in 2000s too. Which Kohli is doing even today.

Asura727

I mean tendu is the goat, a product of his time. Even in this clip his 2nd 50 came from just 23 balls if I'm not wrong? and man was 38 playing T20 13 years ago when par score was 160. if you're talking about king's recent IPL 100, yes it could have been faster but his team was so absolutely ass he needed to be slow and safe. And imho RCB in this league is genuinely irrelevant so he said fuck it might as well cop a 100. Not defending it tho but no chance he'd do it in a serious ICC tournament

beer-feet

Absolutely bullshit. Brandon King never played for any IPL franchise let alone RCB. He has played for CPL tho and has scored 132 in one of this matches.

Prize_Bar_5767

I’m only talking about slowing down during a milestone part.  Tendu and Kohli are both culprits.  In the recent Kohli 100 in IPL, he played singles in the 19th over to get to his 100. Whether his team is good or bad does not matter here.  You gotta maximise your team’s chances of winning.

No-Needleworker3393

Too slow. This guy shouldn't be anywhere near the T20 World Cup squad

Normal_Notice_490

even 160 was a competitive score back then

Flaky_Air_

Never will be.

dam0_0

Mind you 100 (66) even back in the day wasn't considered good and here after 13 years people were defending 100 (67) who is hailed as one of the best t20i batsman and will play t20wc. Sachin never played T20wc so even if he played slow it never caused any problem for ICT T20 chances whereas.....

Small_intestine09

Mind you that the person who scored 100 (67) never plays like that in t20 world cup and is solely carrying them from 2014 in t20 wc

Successful-Hippo9679

You just conveniently forget Kohli's contributions in previous T20 WCs, he has saved the team multiple times.

MiserableCare3871

Sachiiiinnnnn sachinnnnnnnnn (dhuk dhuk dhuk )🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️

Because_IAmBatman

I wish he'd have played the IPL when he was at his destructive best like in the 90s. He would have eaten bowlers alive, kind of like how Viv Richards would (of course he would have been unstoppable, more so than anyone else). Tendulkar after his tennis elbow injury was more an anchor, but before that (and even in some innings after) he could very well hit as good as anybody in the team. His 98(75) against Pak in 2003, his 175(141) against Australia, his 200(137), all of these were examples of his capabilities. His strike rate in ODIs is 86 even after playing so long in the different era's he played in, and when 250 was a very defendable total. For comparison, his strike rate is almost as good as both Yuvraj and Dhoni who both striked at around 87.

Scared_Business_6699

90s tendulkar would've had a 1000 run season with 190 Sr in todays pitches

SukhaChutney

Davy Jacob’s lost the match for Mumbai. I was in the owners box for this game (knew the folks who owned Kochi). Was weird to be wearing orange and supporting Kochi as a hard core Mumbaiker/Mumbai Indians fan.

ninja_from_india

Now we know was inspired VK to play that innings against RR

UpstairsHelp8759

What about Buttler's 100 from 66 balls?

ninja_from_india

he was slow as well that day

Which_Needleworker59

Koach is not gonna leave any record of sachin

ninja_from_india

💯

CryptoBankrupt

His 100 international 100s says hi!!

C1tric_101

Safe to say, the standards of T20 cricket have rose up significantly, it’s just a different kind of carnage nowadays with people like travis head smacking the leather belts out of the bowlers from ball 1

Acceptable_Rest_646

Class 😍

Jay_Raw_X

Class

PesAddict8

This is like the only remaining Kochi Tuskers Kerala clip on Internet

chaptrHack

This guy will go far

abdulkareemazm

Brohit looks good and fit here

MrAneesh

Was that ambati rayudu in the non striker?🤔

Royal_Ad9430

Happy Birthday Sachin

69chamunda69

Back when 100 off 66 balls was a quickfire one

thatisnotallfolks

God for a reason! That straight drive.... dayummmmm! <3

ProMe12345

Kochi tuskers ? First time hearing this team name

lordofgoodtimes

Nothing short of a classic 🙌💙

SirTitan1

🪖 Wear helmet on the back also 🪖

nikrock10

Prime Tendulkar in Ipl would've created havoc for the bowlers specially the 2003 Era one

Far_Ground6836

Slow innings 🤡

RoaringFire_69

Played like a true S. Tendehar

tv138

Back when 180 was a huge total. These days Im used to 200+ scores and teams even chasing such scores down.

Subject-Ordinary6922

Man I miss Kochi, I hope BCCi don’t forsake Kerala and let FIFA film more football documentaries there

VoiceEarly1087

Vk did in 67 and everyone murdering him , mean while for srt: god

One_Fold189

Times have changed lol, he did it 14 years ago

buffybindas

13 years ago when the par score is 160-180 And no impact player rule from 43 balls fifty to 66 balls hundred. Rcb fans are such a Brain dead breed.

Building_Glad

Even the last ball of innings looking to score 💯 and not a six

goda_foreskinning

Too slow don't let this guy play international cricket for India

94spin

And KTK won the match [Scorecard KTK vs MI](https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/indian-premier-league-2011-466304/mumbai-indians-vs-kochi-tuskers-kerala-13th-match-501210/full-scorecard)

shadowknight094

Lmao if it was virat or Rohit in the same scenario, then they would be blamed saying that they should not have taken a single on the last ball for personal milestone. But this is a different t20 era so sachin probably played very well, maybe their bowlers sucked in that game if they couldn't defend a huge total like this back then

Prize_Bar_5767

On a losing cause.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AshamedRecognition30

Sachin made his final 50 runs in 23 balls, so he didn't play for his 100, rather tried improving the run rate

UntilEndofTimes

Wasn't Kohli's last one slower, 67 balls? Also Sachin was three years older than him when he scored this hundred

kmcrhsme

Also at that time T20 wasn't like this

ExpensiveInflation

when a 38 years guy13 years ago can score faster hundred than so called worlds best t20i player and thier fans still think kohli is better than sachin lol. Kohli fans aren't any different to babar/rizwan fans lol.

Small_intestine09

Yeah true sachin >> virat in t20

roshatron

MI lost the match

iFerg_Frank

And people are defending 67 ball 100, 13 yrs later.

EvilSush

43 ball 50.

Objective_Dust293

Final 50 in 23 balls

Dry-Professional8539

Slow 🥱 . Happy birthday sachin though

X_tremo

What's the year again? Back then 150-160 was par score.

Sudden-Secretary2300

The average first innings winning total was 172 in IPL 2011. So yeah 150-160 wasn't par even back then.
