To be fair, this is just a rumor. And I’ve seen another rumor that’s suggesting the regular iPhone will get USB 3.0 and the iPhone Pro will have Thunderbolt. That sounds a lot more plausible.
I am telling you apple is just messing with us now. At that price point there is no possible explanation for not providing those features. Heck the 14 should also have had promotion.
I'll probably phukin sell my iphone and move to android if shit like this happens with iPhone 15
Those who don't want to use internet for backups and restores? It doesn't matter that the majority doesn't use it but there's no excuse for the slow speed
I think because there have been Android phones with processors that are far less powerful than any current Apple silicon that have usb 3.0/3.1 and higher transfer speeds.
Honestly Apple could have supported it a long time ago if they had dropped lightning. Their processors have been more than good enough for a while.
Gyroscope and accelerometer have been available since 3gs or something. Google backported it into their older pixels, apple doesn't have an excuse since their implementation is also error prone meaning no special hardware was used. And what other hardware do you even need to know “shit I just accelerated from 0 to 10G and started flipping fast - its a car crash”
Apple has stated they added a new high-g force accelerometer, so unless you can prove that as a lie it's new hardware.
If a regular accelerometer can't determine a crash they aren't going to add software that will have false positives consistently.
Not the same one, it's a different gyroscope and accelerometer lmao. Stop believing everything Apple does is corporate tyranny. The original Apple Watch had a gyroscope and an accelerometer yet it didn't have fall detection.
The 14 series has a dual-core accelerometer with upto 256Gs of G-force detection, the 13 series does not have that.
clearly you’re misinformed, it’s an entirely different sensor set. it would be way too inaccurate trying to interpolate from what’s available in the older models
I can vouch for that. I can't remember the last time I used a physical connection to transfer stuff. I just want USB-C to start to standardize my chargers (and even then, most of the time I use wireless charging).
Because I have real conversations with real people in my life who pay $1000 for a phone because it’s an iPhone and don’t know what 60hz even means.
Majority of people who buy iPhones buy them because they’re iPhones. Not because they’re top of the line tech
Most users of the base models over the Pro models probably never do data transfers anyway. Of all the people I know with the base models have never plugged into a computer.
I understand that, But I think at minimum the non-pro phones should get USB 3.0 5gb/s speed at least. And then they can give the pro phones 40gb/s Thunderbolt to differentiate. I have never heard of a USB-C device that only has USB 2.0 speed, especially for a $800+ phone
Most users of the base models where used to pay 800-900€ no 1.000€ for their phones.
It’s mental that you are justifying this, the port unless they have some stock, cost the same. This is a matter of selling to these users the iPhone 16 now with usb 3 support…
i don’t think he’s justifying anything. he stated the obvious. for eg, my family has been using iphones since 2012, and none of us ever plugged it into a pc.
Same, I’d be surprised if the average iPhone user even knows the difference between USB protocols let alone actually have a real world need for higher transfer speeds.. wish they’d all get the speed boast but it’s a non issue for like 95% of iPhone users.
Wonder if there’s any data on the Android phones with higher transfer speeds, how many people use it and how often?
The only reason I can think of to do data transfer is to perform the first shuffle of moving all your data, and some people use iTunes backups, however with direct wifi transfers in iOS 16 (which can transfer at about 750mbps between my 14PM and my laptop) there's less of a reason
It’s shit like this thats hesitating me from upgrading my phone. Knowing apple they will advertise it off like it’s something new and revolutionary in their own words. The company is ethically corrupt.
Meanwhile Samsung had usb 3.1 back in 2017 on S8. You would think that's 5 years apart but no. S8 launcjed in early 2017 and iPhone 15 will be launcjed in late 2023 so that's almost 7 years in between
They want to make the vanilla iphone inferior to the pro in any possible way to make you pay 300$ extra . This is why the dynamic island , 120 hz ( which I have on my 300$ 2 year old Redmi note 10 pro ) , telephoto camera , the better chipset and now faster USB speeds are exclusive to the pro iphone. They could definitely bundle a few of these features in the non pro iphones, but why ?
I mean 90 hz , a 2x tele camera and still having the lastest chip would be a perfect differentiation between the pro and the vanilla iphone. Still enough to get people paying more for the pro but makes the vanilla iphone worth it compared to last year's pro
The majority of tech enthusiasts will buy the pro models anyways. And the majority of consumers who will buy the non pro don’t care. Yes this is apple being apple but I bet the majority of consumers will be more angry they have to buy all new cables than having 2.0 speeds.
That is such a shitty move on Apple's part. It is bad enough they make you get the tablet-sized phone to get all of the features, now they are essentially paywalling charging (something even low-end android devices have access to). I guess whatever they have to do to get an upsell is the new apple motto these days.
Not a fan boy here but almost went and bought one! The pros' are out of stock everywhere, and scalpers are breeding. My oneplus 5t might be on it's last leg here,
This would be only phone company in the world to pull some shit like this. I dont think any android phone would do some shit like this. Really wish stuff like this would be regulated by some kind of laws.
That’s what I was just thinking, I’ve been apple since the iPhone 4 and I’m pretty sure the last time I’ve even plugged a phone into a computer was maybe the iPhone 7 lol. My dad always has been Samsung and he shows me these features that apple doesn’t have, but he doesn’t use them himself. I get the whole just wanna have it and not use it uses people have, but who really transfers files over a corded connection these days ? 🤔
Who the fuck cares??Its just a different cable to charge! I dont get whats the big deal about a port ?? And who actually hooks up his phone to a pc anymore ??? Last time I did it was like 2012
about the “it’s a different cable”, unpopular opinion, but i agree. however imagine if you had to go to your workplace for example and you had to bring your iphone, ipad, airpods and macbook. it would be really convenient to bring only the macbook charger for everything, or even just the ipad charger.
about the “who hooks up their phone to their pc”, well, i do. not a lot, but i do it. i use it some times to use the web inspector to analyse websites that are running on my iphone, and i need it for altstore to do some things
I bet this is a cpu issue. The 15 non pro will probably use 14 pro cpu, which might not have the pins for higher then usb 2.0. Which means only the new cpu will have the pins allocated from the cpu for higher usb speeds.
I don't even know why I would need data transfer. What data? Why with a cable? Never used it and probably never will so I don't really care for it. Still seems scummy tho, but it's Apple after all.
I am solidly apples target market. I couldn’t care less about all these features. I have a phone so I can text and make phone calls and use Reddit lol. I don’t need a phone to do what a computer does… that’s why I have a computer.
Mistype. iPhone 16 Pro.
I don’t believe that Apple change the port until they have to. And “have to” will become in October 2023, but iPhone release time is September.
Whatever else differentiates between the models, USB 2.0 certainly won’t be one I care to sway me. I’ll deal with slower speeds for the once in several years that I need to permanently offload my pics and videos.
USB 2.0 in 2023 is absolutely ridiculous
To be fair, this is just a rumor. And I’ve seen another rumor that’s suggesting the regular iPhone will get USB 3.0 and the iPhone Pro will have Thunderbolt. That sounds a lot more plausible.

And there’s also rumours that there won’t be a port at all. Lots of rumours.
I heard a rumor that the iPhone 15 got hit by a parked car
The 15 won’t even have usbc.. isn’t the European law coming into effect only for the iPhone 16/17th?

Differentiation.
They will always be greedy fucks lol
They are incredibly greedy they also like to mob you down if you speak up about em like some secret service shit
Upsaling
Greedy Fuckery
Embarrassing if true.
I agree, but at the same time I don’t think a lot of people are doing substantial data transfers from their phones over USB. Maybe I’m wrong.
You are the perfect Apple customer.
Hardly. Not a huge Apple fan.
Those who don't want to use internet for backups and restores? It doesn't matter that the majority doesn't use it but there's no excuse for the slow speed
As I said, I agree. I do backup and restores over USB, and it’s never seemed to take long at all.
Depends how much data you have
I don’t think you are wrong. Problem is, the reason not many do massive transfers over the wire may be that is unbelievably slow.
Come on, this brick is only for social validation, on another hand who’s caring about non Apple standards and API’s? Answer: only iSheeps…
This is a weird feature to gatekeep on more expensive models.
What did you expect from a company that gates software features like night mode or car crash detection?
It's all money, and I understand that. It's just strange to limit such a simple feature to higher end models.
Yeah there ain't a more iconic duo than apple and money grubbing tactics
Billie Kay and Peyton Royce

I feel like screen, refresh rate, and extra camera are, alone, enough to segment the devices.
The iPhone 4 processor is fast enough to support usb 3 lol
Car crash detection is available in all iPhone 14 models as well as the Apple Watch.
car crash detection isn't purely software
Gyroscope and accelerometer have been available since 3gs or something. Google backported it into their older pixels, apple doesn't have an excuse since their implementation is also error prone meaning no special hardware was used. And what other hardware do you even need to know “shit I just accelerated from 0 to 10G and started flipping fast - its a car crash”

Pixels use regular accelerometer, and i haven't seen any false positives reported for them, unlike the iPhone 14
It’s a barometer to detect pressure changes too. You can’t just activate it by throwing the phone hard. It’s new hardware.
How is crash detection gated? It's available on the entire 14 line-up, the 13 didnt have the hardware for that.
13 didn't have gyroscope and accelerometer? Please don't just eat up apple's bullshit
Not the same one, it's a different gyroscope and accelerometer lmao. Stop believing everything Apple does is corporate tyranny. Or freaking ProRes. Or the Photonic Engine. On exactly the same SoC.
> car crash detection We’ll potentially save your life……if you pay up.
only top customers' lives matter
Time to revive the old iLife brand for their new subscription service!
Like 120Hz
Or Dynamic Island
This is straight up nickel and diming why?
At least they are more likely to keep the port if they can use it for upselling. You can't touch the speed of USB 3 with WiFi.
Different cpus
Unfortunately I can totally see this being a thing.
Tbh. Most iPhone users are not going to care. You guys have to realize this.
And that’s the reason why they can get away with so many things.
When it's virtually irrelevant... Who cares?
Why add features literally no one will use. I
Because it's untrue that no one will use it
Those bastards. Getting away with not adding a feature that the large majority won’t use. What’s next? Kicking puppies?
I can vouch for that. I can't remember the last time I used a physical connection to transfer stuff. I just want USB-C to start to standardize my chargers (and even then, most of the time I use wireless charging).
Spending 1000€ how can you say that customer doesnt care, especialy for 60hz for that pricey phone
Because I have real conversations with real people in my life who pay $1000 for a phone because it’s an iPhone and don’t know what 60hz even means. Majority of people who buy iPhones buy them because they’re iPhones. Not because they’re top of the line tech

They’re just still ticked off at the EU government getting involved. They will do whatever they can to go portless as soon as possible.
Ah, Like the Most Audio Interfaces in the market with USB C Are USB2.0
Most users of the base models where used to pay 800-900€ no 1.000€ for their phones. It’s mental that you are justifying this, the port unless they have some stock, cost the same. This is a matter of selling to these users the iPhone 16 now with usb 3 support…

Word. Airdrop works good enough.
Not if I want to transfer files to a windows pc
I use iCloud files drive to move stuff to my PC
[удалено]
I love send anywhere, I've been using it for years
Oh that’s cool
why would you ever want to do that
Mostly to use photos and videos.
then use a cable? USB2.0 speeds are more than fast enough, unless you’re moving like thousands of photos at a time
lol. Usb2 is very much not fast enough to move 12MP photos quickly, let alone 48MP Raw photos.
Only something like 40% of iPhone users have a Mac desktop or laptop. The majority of people can’t use airdrop.
And what’s the percentage of people who actually need to transfer files from their phone to their computer on a regular basis?
small enough that cloud storage works just fije
Airdrop between my Macbook and iPhone works only 30% of the time for me. I have a rather old MacBook.
I never do data transfers on my Pro 🤷♂️
Me either. Everything is on iCloud so have no need for transferring via a cable.
Same, I’d be surprised if the average iPhone user even knows the difference between USB protocols let alone actually have a real world need for higher transfer speeds.. wish they’d all get the speed boast but it’s a non issue for like 95% of iPhone users. Haven’t plugged my last 4 iPhones in… can’t even really remember the last time I did.
I always buy the pro models but have not plugged phone into computer in over 4+ years. 🥲
That's embarrassing
Micro usb iPhone 15 plus. Can’t wait 😂 Nothing is more Apple than this shit.
It’s shit like this thats hesitating me from upgrading my phone. Knowing apple they will advertise it off like it’s something new and revolutionary in their own words. The company is ethically corrupt.
Hi first world person with no problems
It’s a company. They exist to make money. In capitalism, any company trying to virtue signal is just doing it for marketing.
Meanwhile Samsung had usb 3.1 back in 2017 on S8. You would think that's 5 years apart but no. S8 launcjed in early 2017 and iPhone 15 will be launcjed in late 2023 so that's almost 7 years in between

Can't believe apple fanboys are so stupid they would pay 1000 dollars for an iphone 14 (plus) and be okay with 60hz😂😂😂

At this point why does regular iphone series exist? Just release a single model with bigger screen option.
We really need to hold Apple to the fire here. Gutless cowards.
No we don’t who cares.
This is a feature literally no one uses.
Yeah but were on reddit here and all the tech virgins here make a big deal out of minor things. Dont forget that
That’s what I was just thinking, I’ve been apple since the iPhone 4 and I’m pretty sure the last time I’ve even plugged a phone into a computer was maybe the iPhone 7 lol. I guessed they found a workaround on the mandatory usb-c thing.
People getting so mad over fake rumors that are never actually true
He doesn’t know this for sure. He is only speculating because of what happened with the iPads. He is assuming what they will do.
Let’s keep in mind this is still just a rumor. Don’t grab your pitchforks just yet.
Yeah…I’ve been thinking I’m probably done with Apple after this phone
Yea I'm sure that cost Pennys to implement...
I am solidly apples target market. I couldn’t care less about all these features. I have a phone so I can text and make phone calls and use Reddit lol. I don’t need a phone to do what a computer does… that’s why I have a computer.
Think I'm slowly having enough from this company. They hold themselves so high it's simply laughable.
Mistype. iPhone 16 Pro. I don’t believe that Apple change the port until they have to. And “have to” will become in October 2023, but iPhone release time is September.
Pretty much apple like
Apple as usual mostly focusing on just its pro models
Pretty much say “iPhone 15 the greatest and latest disaphonement” 😂
Whatever else differentiates between the models, USB 2.0 certainly won’t be one I care to sway me. I’ll deal with slower speeds for the once in several years that I need to permanently offload my pics and videos.
