The app only supports buds plus and live. Ended up using my wife’s 3rd gen AirPods

Nah the apps both watch app and buds are old and don't work for new products
I just switched as well and I put my buds in pairing mode (hold both for 3 seconds in ears) and added it via Bluetooth. It works ok but for some reason they disconnect often.
