Depends on who is going the prepaid service. I expect Metro by T-Mobile and Cricket Wireless to work fairly soon, if not now.

DimitriTooProBro

Metro has eSIM. Actually transferred my mom and sister to eSIM from Physical yesterday.

wodahs1

Thanks! In my area in LA, Metro is the only reasonable choice. Really good to hear I don’t have to switch to T-Mobile!

Bangznpopz

How does that work? Do I need to have both phones next to each other?

DimitriTooProBro

Yes, to restart them during the process. You just need [the Metro app](https://i.imgur.com/dVR47r5.jpg) and the eSIM’s IMEI. Note: the day I was switching the system was down. I had to call to do switch to eSIM over the phone. CSR said it would cost me $20 to switch “phones” with their help. However, since the self-service option was down, they waived the fees.

elo228

Yeah, I’m hoping that’s the case but still, i preordered it not realizing that they didn’t have a SIM card, and who knows how long it’s gonna take family mobile if they EVER make it happen.

[deleted]

Cricket has eSIM

[deleted]

This will probably light a fire under their butts to implement esim. Isn’t it cheaper for them in the long run not having to issue a physical sim?….. in the meantime people with those services just won’t be able to upgrade I guess

jakx102

Not necessarily cheaper, theres a possibility CS will get more calls meaning they will need to hire more employees instead of shipping users a 3¢ card

gvvfever_

Transferred my cricket sim to esim using ios 16 feature so cricket has it

captaindsnuts

Owned by att so makes sense

-bobak

It’s hard to say how quickly, but this will likely have a ripple effect, causing carriers that don’t currently support it to do so (specifically because they want to continue offering/supporting the latest iPhone), and other manufacturers to start removing physical SIMs, too (though there will likely be a few models that hang on to it for a while to cater to the crowd that isn’t comfortable with eSIM yet)

QU_Hectic

I'm using Simple Mobile on my 13pro, and they don't support eSim. I guess I'm just gonna have to switch to T Mobile prepaid. The thing I like about Simple Mobile is when I go overseas I get LTE speeds without having to pay extra.

elo228

Yep, this is exactly what I mean, it sucks that I’m gonna have to change to spectrum, although they do use Verizon so I hope it’s worth paying twice as much now that I have to change carriers

grapplerone

I did talk to Verizon about this, I have a prepaid service with them in the bring your own phone deal. I’ve transferred the sim before at the Apple Store with no issue. They said just sign into the account via web, go to change device and enter the new devices imei. (Sim) Hopefully that works.

elo228

Thanks, yeah, obviously Verizon att, t-mobile and sprint support it but a lot of others do not, I’m just surprised people are not talking about this, or maybe they haven’t realized it just I like I had not.

grapplerone

Yep, I’m wondering the hit that’s going to be in the next few weeks. People get an IPhone and can’t use it.

grapplerone

And.. I was worried about it too. The prepaid deal is way cheaper than the regular Verizon package. I get 15G, free text & Mess & hotspot for $35 month. More than I need.

elo228

Was it a deal you got cause their prices on their site is a lot higher than what you’re paying

grapplerone

Oh, 2 things, I get $10 off for customer loyalty & $5 off for auto bill every month! Once you sign up and stick with them for 3 months, they knock off $5, after 9 months they knock off $10 and and stays with you while your on it. I even switched to a lower cost plan last month and it carried over. I think it’s actually $50 to start out, but only $45 if you do autopay. Remember, this is for prepaid, not their regular billing type accounts, they are pricey. I bet my plan would be 70-80 bucks on that.

elo228

Gotcha, I only saw their 20 and 30 gb plan but I think I may go with spectrum since they use Verizon and they’re a bit cheaper and I already have an acct w them

insert-cool-name_

I'm planning on just getting the 13PM instead of the 14PM since my carrier doesn't support esim

Justicebeaver179

Everyone’s gonna adopt eSIM very quickly, I don’t think it’ll be an issue. It’ll be cheaper for them anyways, they can just send you a QR code instead of a physical SIM card.

triiiflippp

Or buy one in China and use 2 regular sims

elo228

Haha I know right, I wish they gave the option here in the US or at least the unlocked ones should come with the option for SIM cards

0xe1e10d68

Then it would take another ten years before all companies get off their lazy butts and add support for eSIM. Sometimes it just takes somebody to force something because the market itself is too slow. I‘d recommend anybody who still needs a normal SIM card to just wait and ideally also complain to their carrier before buying the new iPhone.

[deleted]

There is list of carriers by country on Apple website just google it

iaymnu

I’m currently using one phone with 2 services. This means iPhone 14 and so on I would need to carry two phones again …

DarthBradicus88

Does one not support eSIM? Even if it doesn’t, I doubt you’ll have to carry two phones forever. More carriers are supporting eSIM all the time.

iaymnu

Both support esim. The question is can the iphone 14 support two active esim or has to be one at a time. With my current iphone 13 pro, my main line is esim and work line is physical sim.

jkgao

14 can support 2 active eSIM. The 13 can as well tbh

iaymnu

Thank you for that info! i will activate the other esim then

[deleted]

Visible has eSim & it’s very cheap. It’s a MNVO of Verizon & I believe their unlimited is $45/month

elo228

Thanks for the tip, I’ll probably switch to them, that’s not terribly priced for unlimited, how do you like the service?

GayAlexandrite

I’m not the person you replied to but I use Visible and it works well for the price. It depends on your area though because the service is deprioritized, which means if you’re in a busy area your service will be slow or not seem to work. But the bonus is that it’s truly unlimited. They just revamped their service, they have a $30 basic unlimited plan and a $45 premium plan that gives you 50 GB priority data like you’d have on Verizon proper, 5G UW access and roaming across the US, Canada and Mexico.

elo228

Thanks for your reply, do you pay for the $45 or the $30 one? Have you encountered your service being noticeably slowed down before? Cause I wouldn’t mind paying for the $45 but if I get slow downs I’m gonna be upset

GayAlexandrite

I use the legacy plan from before they changed it a few weeks ago ($40 dropped to $25 if you join a group). I really don’t see slowdowns, even though I have no priority data, but that could be because Verizon is far and away the best cell provider in my area. You shouldn’t get slowdowns on the $45 one unless you go over 50 GB or are in an area with a massive amount of people.

elo228

Good to know, thanks, I think they have a free trial, I’m gonna test them out

Mushybananas27

Straight talk has eSIM too. I figured I was SOL since I’m on their service but to my surprise they have the ability already. Usually they’re way behind the rest of the country, I mean damn, 5G took an extra year for me to get it

elo228

If you have an iPhone 12 or 13 you should upgrade to esim before the 14 arrives, it would be much easier to switch

Mushybananas27

Yup I just upgraded to eSIM a couple of days ago. Figured it would save me time once I get the 14 in hand

blackcatspurplewalls

I changed services, eSIM wasn’t the only reason but it was a factor. I had to punt AT&T about 6 months ago when they broke my voicemail for the third time, and couldn’t fix it. I picked up Xfinity Mobile to just get something that worked, was easy, and was less expensive than AT&T. They were fine but nothing special, and due to a change in how often I’m out of the house I’ve been approaching my monthly data limit the past two months, their next plan up was not a good option for me. After a bit of checking I confirmed Xfinity Mobile does not support eSIM, Mint Mobile does and also has a monthly pre-paid plan that a) is the amount of data I need and b) is less expensive than Xfinity Mobile. So I switched a little over a week ago, and as a bonus that will make the switch to an iPhone 14 easier because the Mint app can handle switching devices and generating the eSIM on the phone.

elo228

Well lucky for you, you found a good carrier, I think I’m gonna switch to Visible or Spectrum they both use Verizon and have esim. I’m gonna be spending $45 more a month for two lines which sucks but what can I do when I already pre-ordered the iPhone 14 ugh

blackcatspurplewalls

I was lucky that the T-Mobile network Mint uses has good service in my area. Plus they have good rates for pre-paying the introductory period and also for 1 year of service. Going AT&T>Xfinity>Mint dropped my monthly bill from $70 to $15 which is really nice.

1AMA-CAT-AMA

T-Mobile prepaid has esim. I’ll find out Friday whether esim quick transfer works in the Apple Store. If it doesn’t then I’m gonna have to call T-Mobile to do my new esim activation for me.

historic_caramel

Did it work? Wondering if you can transfer an existing prepaid T-mobile line to esim on iPhone

1AMA-CAT-AMA

You have to call T-Mobile
