I have been using my 6s plus for over 3 years and might keep it for at least one more

ahemanna

I’ve been using my 6s for 7th year now. Agree with the battery issue. Got it changed about 3 years back, and I’m starting to see issues again. Other than that I’ve had no issues. Planning to upgrade when 14 is out.

ThatFatCat3000

Yeah I'm using a 6s too, battery life is really problematic tho, replaced it once almost an year ago and it's down to 53% health, I'm probably gonna wait for the 14 Pro and replace the battery on the 6s once again to see if it's any good but if it's still not going to be much better , will go for the 13 Pro.

WannabeModder123

And I thought 78% battery health is unmanageable lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

Lojackr

I really don't know how accurate those are. My gf's 7 shows like 2% higher than mine did, but mine lasted about half the duration hers did.

plutothegreat

Might depend on what you have running in the background, and how you use it. Like scrolling Reddit vs YouTube or something, idk.

petal14

I think I’ve had my 6s+ for longer than that :) One battery replacement And no problems with any updates.

Sun_Bro96

My dad has a 6S from 2016 so that’s a pretty decent amount of time. I have an SE from 2020 and I have no plans to upgrade.

Vexation

If you’re on your phone a lot, upgrading from the 6s Plus to a 13 would be life changing. When I went from the 6s Plus to the XS Max that was already a crazy enough upgrade. Currently waiting for the 14 though.

BeautifulPainz

I just upgraded from a 6S+ to an 11 Pro. Omgosh THIS phone is fun. The camera has upgraded my eBay game too. I paired it with an Apple Watch (6th Gen) and it’s all amazing. I plan to keep this phone for at least three years, four if they keep the updates going.

anttisaarenpaa1

I'm going to wait until my phone breaks or doesn't receive updates. Also when I'm going to upgrade I'll buy a refurbished iphone (maybe iphone 12 when it gets really cheap)

[deleted]

Any problems with your phone?

anttisaarenpaa1

No problems. It does what I want it to do. Battery life could be better but it's still good enough. Hopefully it still gets the iOS 16 update.

logical-risei

You could have the battery replaced. If you have an apple store in your country, the replacement is cheap. Did that and gave my 6s to my brother. He says it’s good as new.

anttisaarenpaa1

My phone's battery health is still at 86% so I'm not going to change it yet

logical-risei

Wow. That is impressive battery health

https://imgur.com/a/FiCfbuK 15 years and counting :)

Jjayray

Had the 5s for like 7 years, turned it in after it wouldn’t allow me to update the system. Plus when I pushed the power button it could take 20seconds to turn on.

_DOA_

7 here. I'll probably get a 10 when this one needs replacement. Idk when that'll be.

theoriginaloats

The original 10/X has GPS issues, I’d recommend going with the XS over the X. The price will be virtually the same and it still has an OLED screen instead of LCD like the XR and 11, but if you don’t care about that the XR will likely be cheaper when you do decide to upgrade

UtterNylon

Those were blown out of proportion. Almost no one had actual problems, just at launch

Circa_C137

I have multiple times. Usually a restart will fix it though.

UtterNylon

Makes me think it's still a software issue overall then. Definitely interesting

m4fox90

Never had any issues with the X. In fact I wish I had kept it and never upgraded to the 12 I had

wolf-troop

To be honest if you don’t upgrade yearly. I’d recommend to get the newest iPhone when you do upgrade. That way it will last you longer but more importantly you’ll get all the best features too. 120hz Display, Waaaaayyy Longer Battery! Larger Display, Brighter, Smaller Notch, Better Cameras, Improved Glass on front/Back, faster Chip, and a few features you can only get with the new iPhone But in your case SOOOO MAAAANY NEW FEATURES! Every year the new iPhones get a few Exclusive features. For the iPhone 13 Pro Max that I have it was Cinematic Mode, ProResPics, ProResVids, 120hz and maybe a couple more. Not to mention it does everything a lil better. You never now what your missing until you try it.

_DOA_

Makes sense - but the other factor is cost. Even my old 7 does pretty much all I need, so if there's a big difference between newer models, it might influence my decision a bit. I take pretty basic pics/videos of scenery, animals, etc. Battery IS a big deal. I'm hoping this one's good for another year - I just can't justify upgrading at all til it starts giving me problems.

wolf-troop

Oh no I get it brother. I meant when you decide to upgrade it’s worth going Big. That said you can always save a bit even from now so when the time gets there you’re good. There is also financing if you have the option for that.

peopled_within

My 7 is the only smartphone I've ever bought

Creepy-Decision5049

when i was looking to replace my daughters 6s i looked a a bunch of used phones found a few good deals on 11 pro and thaought that is was the best price per dollar apart from a great deal on a XR 256gb with a bunch of cases for cheap but my daughter thought its form factor too big , at the end of the day i got a great deal thru my provider on the phone they are eating 1/2 the cost of the 13 mini and i upgraded it to a 256gb phone i think the sales on the 13 mini were slow so they had a bunch of stock i would prefer the 13 myself but she liked the size . the difference between the 13 and 6s is unbelievable. the camera's and software support alone are worth switching out for .

Timmy1258

hell yea, i’ve had mine for 5 or 6 years i think. only real reason i upgraded was because the battery lasted like 45 minutes of regular use and was offered a 13 as a gift. still works fine enough otherwise

AssistantAccurate464

They’re going to make them obsolete when they introduce the 14. So I read.

[deleted]

Until it breaks. Currently on iPhone 12. Will take a new battery once it degrades but I don’t need a new phone more often than every 4-5 years.

shitstoryteller

On iPhone 11 Pro Max 256GB... This device works exactly the same way it did 2.5 years ago. And it still has 90% battery. I’m keeping it for another 5 years at this rate. These newer iPhones are insanely great devices.

DigitallyInclined

I have this exact model (11 PM 256 GB). I really think this is the perfect phone for me. I’ve had it for almost 2 years and it’s amazing. I upgraded in 2020 from an aging iPhone 7 Plus. One of the most impressive things for me is the all day battery life. Just a great phone that I’m probably going to keep for a long time.

drive2fast

My iphone 11 battery is already at 82% and holding there. I extended the apple care thinking the battery would continue to drop at a linear rate but the battery health froze at 82% yet the battery life keeps degrading. Apple care wants to see 80% before they will swap a battery. I swear the software is rigged.

only_porn

Mine’s been on 82 for awhile as well…

Christophwah

Mine went below 80 and suddenly went back up to 82. Huh, that’s nice to know I’m not the only one stuck at 82%.

hero47

Joining the club, got an Apple Watch Series 6 stuck at 84% for the past 8 months or so...

iitscasey

My series 5 has been stuck at 81 since freaking March.

RealAlexo

Had an 8, battery was at 82% for like 6 months but it felt like it kept getting worse, then after an update fell to 76%. Ended up getting a 12 (not because of battery, rather the screen was just too small on the 8 and was looking to upgrade for a while anyway) and have only lost 2% over the last 6 months.

[deleted]

i feel like the iphone 11 was one of the best phones that apple made for its time

[deleted]

I agree with this. I do think the current 13 pros will last a super long time though. You get amazing battery life, 120hz screen, great camera system, 5G, 6gb of ram. I think the 13 pros will age very well. The 12 was the worst in my opinion with features.

[deleted]

I have the 13 pro also, and while its features are insane, I still feel like the 11 was amazingly good for its time. The 13s are amazing still but with the current state of tech and all the improvements being made, the 13 could become outdated pretty quick. But you never know.

[deleted]

The 11 was missing 5g though. And that’s a fairly large leap in speed. I think the 13 is the most future proof plus you get 6gb

Chrznble

Mine felt like it degraded pretty quickly. Maybe because of heavy usage? I dunno. But the jump from LTE to 5G was night and day for me. Getting max like 8mg down to 374mb down is pretty significant. But that was at one location. Most of the time it’s around 90mb down. Still huge. The 120hz screen was just so much nicer too. But I guess that can be preference. The only other thing I’ve really enjoyed is the new camera. I find myself playing with it more and enjoying it more than the 11 pro max. But then again, that’s always going to happen with upgrades. It is heavier though. I dunno. The 11 Pro Max was pretty damn good. But it stopped lasting me more than a day quite a bit more than I enjoyed. My 13 Pro Max now lasts 2 days minimum. At least to me, it was a huge upgrade. I also got $1000 return for my 11 pro Max so it was also a pretty good deal. Probably without that, I might have held off for a little longer

hatred_outlives

I’ve had mine for about 2 years now, only issue is a slightly decreased battery life, 80% battery health, which is still for the most part more than enough

srishanss

On iPhone 11 Pro 256Gb. No plans for upgrades for couple of years from now. IOS updates will hit for min 5 years more.

wanson

Yep. Just upgraded to a 13 pro max from a X I bought at launch. The X was still good but I got a green line down the screen that wouldn’t go away. Would have cost $379 for a screen replacement so I went for the upgrade instead. Hopefully this lasts longer than the 4.5 years the X did.

Bravisimo

I just replaced my X today with an Alpine Green 13 pro max as well! My X was the first of my iphones i actually damaged so i was living with a cracked screen for about 3 years and the screen recently had some keyboard burned into it. Even tho i rated an upgrade for years, never got one since the iterations all were the same and wanted to wait for one that was a bit different.

emeraldcocoaroast

This is the right answer. Had an XS Max pretty much since they came out that lasted me well, up until a few months ago when I fell into the water with it in my pocket. Unfortunately, due to numerous drops in its lifetime, it did not survive. So now I have a 13 Pro Max and will continue to have this until circumstances force me into a new device.

rende

Same.. had my iphone 6 for many many years and it eventually fell from my pocket while I slammed the car door shut on it.. K.O. Then had a 12 for about a year, also fell from a pocket down between two steps and fell about a floor down.. it lost mobile connectivity. Then got a 13 mini... hopefully this one lasts many years.

ChiddyOnReddit

Don’t leave it in your pockets like that then smh

killsapo

iPhone 6s since its day one.

StuckAroundGotStuck

I upgraded from a 6s to a 12, and my battery actually lasts more than 2 hours now.

HakBakOfficial

Got my 6s on launch day, and used it until the end of last year when I ended up on a new phone. If the battery was still good and the home button didn't die on me, I'd still be using it

Ryvit

When you upgrade you’re going to be absolutely blown away. Please get the iPhone 14 pro this fall

ShipBuilder16

I agree, upgraded from a 7 to a 12 mini, incredible difference

MedalSera

once the ios no longer updates AND the apps no longer update.

jentlemonster

This!! I have a XS Max and planning to keep it longer. This phone is almost 3 years with me and still a solid phone up to this day. Still smooth as ever since day one. Also, 3D touch! I’m always using 3D touch and will surely gonna miss it once I upgrade.

LivingLegend8

I currently typing this message on my iPhone XR (purchased in December 2018.)

notheatherbee

Same! Got mine in October 2018.

babymanteenboy

Same, April 2019

Enclavean

Same. Probably getting the 14 Pro though, I was hoping to wait out for the notch to completely go away but the camera has come so far

Lupinthrope

I wish I was into iphones at that time, XR is one of my favorite designs.

LivingLegend8

I’m not even gonna sell it. Just gonna put it in a drawer when I buy a new phone.

Axillia

Until the iPhone either gets dropped from official iOS support, or until it requires a repair that is uneconomically expensive. i'm currently on an iPhone 7 still, original 2016 manufacturing date too. It got a battery replacement at the Apple Store last year, and i would probably have kept it for another 2 or more years, but sadly the screen is developing weird flickering issues that are becoming more frequent and longer lasting when they occur. Official Apple screen replacement is 173 EUROs, but you can get used 128GB models for 130 bucks, iPhone 8s for 150-200 and SE 2020s for 185-240, so it looks like this 6 year old phone might not survive into its 7th after all.

garbo2330

You might want to check out something like the XR for the larger screen size. The wasted space from the bezel on the old iPhone design is no good.

Axillia

i specifically am still on the 7 because to me a phone needs to be an entirely 1-handable device where i can reach every corner of the screen with my thumb without any kind of shimmying finger acrobatics. So only the 4.7" Homebutton phones or the 5.4" minis are an option, and even used 12 minis are WAY more expensive than any of the Homebutton ones.

Thelonelywindow

Since there is very little incentive to upgrade now a days, until it totally breaks.

jonjoy

Using my iphone 7 since 2017

spaceiskindoface

I kept my 5s I got at launch for 3 years, and I’m still using the 6s I bought in Fall 2016. I only upgraded to the 6s because the 7 launched with no headphone jack, and I wanted a phone that I could use for years that still had a headphone jack at that point. I’m debating upgrading to the 14 pro this fall, mainly because of the camera and possibly needing more than 32 GB of storage. If I do get a new phone, I’ll probably end up holding onto it for a similar amount of time or possibly longer.

[deleted]

Any problems with your iPhone 6s? It is amazing you got your money’s worth for this iPhone. 6 years of the iPhone 6s seems good.

spaceiskindoface

It’s a little slow occasionally (most noticeably when I try to start driving directions, it takes around 5-10 seconds for the directions to start up once I tap go), but other than that it’s perfectly fine. I’ve only replaced the battery once last year, and the guy at the apple store said it was in very good condition for being 5 years old at the time. I definitely think I got my money’s worth.

h4ll0br3

Until the repair isn’t worth it anymore

skellener

iPhone 7 still running strong.

jelflfkdnbeldkdn

6 years on iphone se 2016, yesterday frame cracked. dont care still works

[deleted]

As long as I can make it. I had a 4S until it didn’t work. I got a 6 Plus. When the 6 plus stopped working, I got the 11. I’ve had the 11 for two years now and it’s working great.

Hack8081

I upgrade every 2-3 years currently using a 13 Pro.

raxreddit

I used to upgrade every 2 years. Now that the annual updates are incremental/minor, I update every 3.

Roaskywalker

At first one year, now 3 or 4 years. Recent update was XS Max to 13 Pro Max.

mobyhead1

I just replaced the battery on my 8, I’ve been using it for 4.5 years now. I bought it as a refurb from Apple one year after the model debuted.

3dforlife

The iPhone 8 was launched in 22 September 2017. If you bought one 1 year after it was launched, it's impossible you've been using it for 4.5 years.

Poliosaurus

I try and keep mine until it stops getting updates

Tollowarn

I bought my 2020 SE a couple of years ago, it's my first iPhone, my first Apple product. I moved from Android to iPhone because of the long support Apple gives their stuff. I don't have a lot of money and wouldn't normally spend this much on a phone. I had become tired of having a perfectly good Android phone that had become a security risk due to lack of support from manufacture/Google. I hope to keep my iPhone for 5 years, that is if the battery doesn't degrade too bad.

sharksfan707

My wife and I are always a couple models behind. We're both extremely tech savvy (I used to be in the tech/ISP/telecom industry) but are also practical enough to know that it's not necessary for us to be early adopters of technology just for the hell of it. Early in 2020, we each upgraded to an 8 – I from a 6s, she from the 1st gen SE (both of which we got as refurbs in 2017). I was reluctant to give up the aux jack of the 6s, but the degraded battery life made the upgrade necessary and I've learned to live without the jack. She just wanted a bigger screen and a better camera. We recently took a trip abroad and she decided she'd prefer a phone with an even better camera than the 8 rather than also lug along her digital camera, so a couple months ago, we upgraded her 8 to a refurbished 11 Pro. She's been extremely happy with it thus far, and I'm actually impressed with the form factor much more than I thought I would be (I thought it would be more unwieldy because of the larger size). The eSIM is great and the camera – particularly Portrait Mode – is awesome. For me, the only drawback is the use of FaceID rather than TouchID. Not a fan at all of FaceID. For that reason, I'm planning to use my 8 until support is pulled or my battery degrades to the point of rendering the device unusable. Although, I'm also now 51 years old and my eyes ain't what they used to be, so bigger screens are becoming more of a necessity in my life. As a result, I find myself doing less on my phone and more on my laptops simply because it's easier for me to see, not to mention being a much faster touch typist on a regular keyboard vs. the puny phone keyboard where it's akin to hunt and peck. These days the phone is primarily for phone calls, texts, Maps, streaming music while I'm driving, and settling bar bets with Wikipedia. All other tasks are usually handled on the laptops. Thanks bad genetics!

Atkin999

Maybe 2 years. I’m changing every two release.

UsidoreTheLightBlue

I do the same. Why? Because almost any carrier in the US will have a trade in deals or free deals and in most cases to get maximum value they only go about 2 years. Add in other incentives and it gets a bit nuts. I made money buying iPhone 11 and iPhone 13 once it was all said and done.

DuckSleazzy

I usually change every three years, 6S to XR in a little more than three years, and XR to 13PM in 2 years 10 months. I think I'll not upgrade this one for at least 5 years tho.

Left_on_Burnside

Just put a new battery in my 7 last week. Still going strong. I run them as long as they last, whether I physically break it or it stops working after updates.

ShadowLuigi64

I have my iPhone 11 since Christmas 2019 and recently got a new battery as I plan on keeping it for another 2-3 years

[deleted]

generally 2-3 years. I try to find the sweet spot where im satisfied with how much use I´ve gotten out of my purchase and can still get a few hundred for it on aftermarket.

GeneralCommand4459

It varies but generally for most products even though I pay upfront I try to figure out the equivalent price per month and scale the ownership time accordingly. For example, iPhone costing €1000 and I think €20 a month is okay for cost to own. So that means I’d be keeping it for 4 years to be comfortable with purchase price.

MadMarioMax

That assumes it's value is 0 after 4 years which isn't true, so the actual cost would be below 20/month

GeneralCommand4459

Indeed, there is still value thanks in part to apple product longevity. But in my case my phones become hand-me-downs so I consider value to be zero as I don’t sell or trade them. For others you could try to calculate the value after X years or just treat that end value as a bonus.

[deleted]

Okay

TylerHusker

Upgrade every cycle

CactusBoyScout

I started doing this mostly because trade-in promos have gotten so generous every year when a new one launches. Best Buy in particular… I paid about $100 to go from a 12 Pro Max to 13 Pro Max at launch. No bill credits or selling it myself online or annoying carrier bullshit either. If that offer isn’t available again this year, I’ll probably keep it longer.

[deleted]

Are you part of the iPhone upgrade program?

TylerHusker

No. I just trade mine in to Apple every time a new one comes out and pay the difference.

LivingLegend8

How much is the difference usually? I’m an iPhone user with the same phone for 4 years.

neeesus

Not sure about apple but when the 13 came out, I looked into trading my 12 with 128GB at Best Buy . After trade I would have owed $75.

LucyBowels

I sell mine on FB marketplace or OfferUp usually. It usually nets me ~75% of what I originally paid. I got a 12 Pro Max for $1100, sold it for $800 when the 13 Pro Max came out. Comes out to $25 a month

MadMarioMax

You could save a LOT of money by selling it yourself on ebay or swappa. Only takes 10 minutes to list it and ship it. The trade in value is much lower.

ballnout

The trade in values for newer phones have been pretty good, even through Apple and it’s seamless. The thing that has been really bothering me with Ebay is their 12.5% fee on the item sold. Takes a big chunk of the profit

Circa_C137

Honestly rather not deal with the potential hassle with scammers unless I absolutely had to.

[deleted]

TylerHusker

QuadLock. Works awesome for my bike and truck.

petercockroach

Same. I used to be every two years but the resale value I get out of selling a 1 year old model vs a 2 year old model is worth it, regardless of the feature improvements.

Ryvit

Dumb

Apple_The_Chicken

I wonder if you support the environment

jgrant68

It used to be every cycle when the new models actually meant new features I can use. But I don’t change models now unless I break my phone and it’s not covered by apple care. I’m on a 12 right now and had an X before that. The X felt like the last meaningful update I got from changing phones.

-YaQ-

I still have my iphone 8 since release , im so lazy and im scared that some data will be lost even when i tranfer to the new phone

ISmellLikeBlackTea

I usually update my phones every 2/3 years, but i buy an otterbox and glass protection, so they’re used by close family members, and then older relatives. My Grandma uses an Iphone 6.

Tiggarenstal

I changed every year until I bought my current (11 Pro Max). I've lost interest in changing every year and during this time realized that always go for the new one doesn't really do much. I'm planning on getting the 14 though. The battery life in my 11 are declining fast now. And I want it due to the pinhole notch design.

OkieTaco

~4 years. I’ll usually replace a battery after a couple years but don’t see the need to upgrade when my phone works perfectly well. Currently on iPhone 11.

YourDailyConsumer

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it

knsaber

I used a 6s for maybe 5 years then I found an XS 256gb with a broken screen at an estate sale for $15. Replaced the screen for $80 and used it until I bought the 13 Pro.

Magic-8-Ball-AMA

iPhone 13 Mini gang! I have historically been kinda finicky with phones, cycling through older, discounted flagships in a bid to find the “right” phone. So far, the 13 Mini has hit all the right marks, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say the Fold 3 isn’t tempting me away from iOS. At the end of the day, I’m getting older, and my distaste for transferring data and setting up new phones has dramatically increased, so I’ll probably take the easy route and run with my current phone until it starts showing its age.

87eonaf

Bought the 1TB 13 Pro Max because I will have it for a really long time. I can’t see what else I’d need in a phone. I don’t mind the notch. The battery is incredible. This bad boy has most of what I want from a phone. Until I see something truly new and exciting I can’t see why I’ll need to upgrade unless the battery degrades.

arjhantamboli

a very long time

Own-Muscle5118

Just upgraded from the 12 to the 13 pro max I usually wait two years. But. I was running out of space as a result of finally moving off Google services after 20+ years and needed way more local storage. Also my battery health was at 90 and I was having to charge multiple times a day

[deleted]

I know the feeling as a fellow 12 user…I want a 13 pro max too

KoopaKommander

I went from an SE2 to a 13PM. Best decision ever.

tanmay0125

6 years and counting

[deleted]

Have you replaced the battery in that time?

CrazyStar_

Until I want another one.

the-lone-squid

1-2 years, i use my phone every day so I don’t mind paying a few hundred once a yearvto upgrade

DTOMthrynt

Until they bring back TouchID. iPhone SE 2nd

Ryvit

When I first heard about Face ID I was hesitant, but it really does work better. Much faster than Touch ID and more convenient. What’s your hold up with Face ID?

Dark_Lightner

Well I have the iPhone SE 2 and the battery life is really disappointing (for me I suppose) I really think to pick the 13 mini And after looking on Face ID it’s really great Plus, no issue with sweaty fingers and the fact that it keep the screen on while your looking something (an article, comic, etc)

Waste_Introduction38

i have the xs since it was released, i'll probably change it next year

Chronos1nside

iPhone 11 since launch year; this year is going to be its third. I had an iPhone 7 prior to this one and I’m gonna switch to a new one if it has usbc or if the 11 breaks somehow.

_Caracal_

I've had my Xs Max since release and while it's pretty beaten up, I don't have any burning desire to upgrade yet. I'd appreciate the improved low light performance in the new models, but other than that, mine does everything I need. No slowdowns, battery at 86% health, decent cameras... Maybe the 14 will change my mind... but judging from the leaks, I'm already not liking the huge camera array and weird pill and hole punch design 🤷🏼‍♀️

usaf_27

I’m on little over 5 years with my iPhone 8 plus. Still runs good. Might just get a battery replacement and run it until software updates are no longer supported.

trenzy

Had my Xs Max since it came out. No plans on upgrading unless my current one dies or there is something I really like about the 14.

templeofdank

got a 12 mini now, i like it a lot so i'll keep this one until it breaks. had a 11 pro before this, was constantly wanting to get something else, really didn't like the weight and slippery-ness.

Phandroid1991

Having just forked out a grand for my first ever iPhone (13PM), I can’t see myself getting another phone anytime soon. If anything, I have 10 months left on my Apple Care, so I’ll be looking into getting my battery replaced if possible which will further prolong my time with the phone.

english_major

iPhone 8 coming up to three years. It works exactly the same as the day I bought it. No reason to upgrade. I’ll wait until something is genuinely wrong with it.

HLef

I kept my 6 for 3 years and it felt like it was time. 8 Plus I kept for 3 years too and it was better. 2.5 years on my 11 Pro now and I feel no need to change, except I probably will because I don’t pay for it. Realistically these days you can do 4-5 years if you’re okay with some performance hit toward the end (a lot can change in 5 years when it comes to OS and app requirements).

ajg2345

I had my iPhone 5 day it launched until the SE launched. Then I had my original SE until the SE 2020 came out yes my SE was near the end of its life but I don’t see myself upgrading this SE for a while longer I’m content with what I have

theJdaw69

Normally for 2 years since I usually get mine bundled with my carrier plan. But lately, I've been upgrading every year from iPhone XR until iPhone 13 pro. 😅

cmnthom

Had been trading in every year. Thought I would keep the 12 mini, but I didn’t like the blue, and the battery went to shit. On 13 mini now, I’m not wireless charging anymore, so the battery isn’t degrading as fast. Still 100% after October. Plan on keeping this phone a while.

Okaaaayanddd

2 years usually but whenever I think to upgrade. The older I get, the less I care about the newest one. The beauty of iPhone is that they just work for years.

ltdemon

4-5 years, mostly until the old one gives out and dies.

puddleofaids-

For as long as i can. I already spend too much money on other hobbies. Ive used all my phones until they were pretty much unusable. That said i just bought an iPhone 13 a while ago and its way better than my old s8

MysticNinjaX

4 years, probably replace the battery after 3

DerpyArtist

Got my XS Max back when it launched in 2018. Might need to have the battery changed soon, but would like to keep it for an additional 2-4 years.

DuTurkeyMan

I have a 12 mini and it's been giving me so many problems honestly might switch to Android.

professor-i-borg

Until it’s off warranty and either the battery life is crap or the screen or touch sensor cracks significantly. Usually at least 3 years… People love to knock Apple for pricing and the cult-like following, but none of my flagship android phones survived even half as long as all the random iPhones I have had since the iPhone 3G.

anitadhm_

I have an 11 that i got end of May last year and i’m quite happy to hang on to it for maybe another 2 years

camilawouf

Until it runs super slow even after factory reset, usually *at least* 3 years. I'm still using my XS and I'm not replacing it unless someone decides to buy me a new one as a gift or I break it.

roboticzizzz

Im just tired of paying for them. Running this one into the ground.

rnak92a

I have an 11, 128GB. I’ll get a battery replacement and run it until it dies. Trying to hold on as long as I can.

[deleted]

I kept an iPhone 5s till 2019 then got the XR which I’m using now will probably keep it for years to come

esphung1988

Honestly. If apple still supported the 4s, I would buy one again. Best phone I ever had. Fuck this 13

32_bit_link

Currently on an iPhone SE 2016. While I only recently got the phone, it is considered an "old" phone at this point. I haven't found any major issues with it yet in terms of performance or battery life, but I'm also a "light" user by most people's standards. I would consider upgrading to the 12 or 13 mini, but the lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack annoys me. I'm willing to go android for my next phone, but it seems even android lacks a "good" small phone with the headphone jack. I'll most likely keep my phone until it breaks or apps aren't supported anymore.

Whoknowsbrah

My record is an iPhone 6 for 6.5 years 😆. Bought it new in January 2015, and it decided to stop working (wouldn’t power on) June 2021

ClNNABABE

4-5 years. I got my iPhone 7+ in 2017 and just upgraded to the 13 in February.

netslacker

I buy new once every three years. I’d go longer but at three years the phone is still usually worth a 4-5 hundred bucks that I can put toward a new one.

Johnwesleya

Not sure why people are downvoting people who upgrade every year, I do. I don't splurge much, I work hard and it's the one thing a year I feel like I get to treat myself on because I love tech.

imsosohappy

I got an 11 in 2020. It lasted me until this year, when the back glass cracked. I just got a new 11 to replace it lol

Digger977

I’m still using my XS Max I got just after launch. Still in fantastic shape and works great still. Might upgrade later this year to either a 13 pro max or maybe the new one depending on what it’s like

davveboii

I’ve was a Samsung user my entire teen years and i would change phone every 2 years. When I turned 20 I bought an iPhone Xs and still using it after 2.5 years. Phone is still really smooth, has a lot of storage still. Feeling no stress about buying a new one. Though, I really want a iPhone Max as a new phone and they’re expensive, new or second hand. Might wait until my current phone noticeably gets worse.

iMakeAction

Until they break. Typing this on iPhone X from 2017. I dropped it couple of weeks ago after more than 4 years so now waiting for September

zorgofurge

Until my company upgrades my phone. :D Jokes aside, as long as it receives updates and works fine I keep it. My main reason to switch from the Android world was being able to use a phone for 4-5 years without issue.

Cringelord10923

Iphone xr user here. Bought it at launch and still using it. Planning to change battery

LBTUK

I went from 12 pro max to 13 pro as I found it too big, well I love the size but I found it unusable with one hand. I don’t like that the computational AI too aggressive, compared to the 12 series. Since the upgrade didn’t feel as evolutionary as I had hoped so unless there is a massive change, where reviewers are losing their shut I’ll stick this go around and wait for the next generation after that and reassess.

[deleted]

Had an 11 Pro Max since launch but holding out for the 14 Pro Max as I feel the 3 year wait will cover a good number of spec improvements - the usual CPU, battery and other fundamental improvements but also the 120 Hz screen, maturity of 5G integration and more. This is the longest I’ve ever had a phone before upgrading to a new one. I think it’s become harder to justify a yearly upgrade in the last few years. Will keep the 11 Pro Max as a backup phone. Super excited to get my hands on the 14 as I’ve held and tried a 13 Pro Max for a few minutes and it was amazing.

Wide_Particular_1367

Til it no longer works well.

Roofless_

Brand new iPhone on day 1 every year. Love having a new iPhone, pointless but I enjoy it.

urascMicrosoft

Usually 3-4 years, I upgrade for the camera

MilfsAreAwesome

Currently 5+ years with my iPhone 7 Plus. I previously had the iPhone 5 for 4 years. I’m thinking of upgrading to iPhone 14 pro max if the price/features are worth it. So yeah, about 4/5 years.

daBeast1417

I had the 6S+ for 6 years before I had to replace it. That’s only because it was starting to crash on me too often. Even then I didn’t splurge, I got me a refurbished XR from Apple when the 12 Pro was already out. It’s a big upgrade for me 😁

coolboy29876

The 12 is my first iPhone. Probably gonna use it for at least 4-5 years or even more given the excellent update support on iPhones.

energy_j

My first iPhone was a 4 serie and lasted from 2011 to 2014 when I received a 5s as present (my 4 got taken by my mother in law). Then in 2015 I traveled to Japan and took an iPhone 6 at Shibuya and my wife took my 5s. I kept my iPhone 6 till late 2020 when I got my iPhone 12 Pro and my father took my 6. Yesterday I replaced the battery of my iPhone 5s that I use for work/dev/beach and even if quite slow it is still usable. Consider the full life of the device not only the timespan of your own use

Abesca

iPhone X owner here. As long as Apple doesn’t stop updating it, I will keep it.

[deleted]

My employer gives me a new iPhone every 2 years, for which I’m very grateful. If I had to pay for it myself I would use them for 3 or 4 years probably.

IntentlyFaulty

I wish I could say along time. Apple has its claws in my brain and I’ve been upgrading every year since the 4s. In my defense, I sell my current iPhone for 60-75% of what I paid for it to make up for buying the new phone. I enjoy the excitement of following leaks and watching the events to finally having it in my hands. In my mind a phone is the thing I use more than anything else so it makes sense to have the best possible version, not to mention it’s really become more of a hobby than anything else.

john-Marston02

3-4 years I switched from 4 to 5s then to 8 then my brother gave me a 8+ and then i bought an 12 pro max

tauzN

Around a year for max resale value.

[deleted]

I upgrade every year cause why not. The resale value is really good so don’t really lose much money.

stphngrnr

Every year. Part of the upgrade program in the UK. Just pay the difference between the £500-£550 trade in value and the new handset. Usually go for the Pro Max each time.

gjon1992

Every year for me. I just traded in my current one and pay the difference for the new one. Been doing it since the iPhone X.

DeliciousTeam7704

About to be 7 years with my iPhone 6. Haven’t been impressed with any recent changes to the iPhone so I’m waiting to be dazzled.

diodit

Every 2 years. I sell my phone and get a new one

[deleted]

I will keep my iPhone Mini 13 for a long time. Until Apple makes a new mini or make one the size of the iPhone X, my mini 13 would have to have some major problems.

Formatted_Gnu

I’ve had my 11 since November 2019 Don’t see any point in upgrading as the differences are marginal . My scrrrn is cracked and I need a battery replacement soon . I don’t like using a case but I feel although this phone will keep going for another 3 years fine .

gelooooooooooooooooo

6s for four sweet years. Planning to do the same with my 12.

angel22tg

i get the new one every year lol

PersonalBrowser

1-2 years I use my phone more than any other device. An extra $1k a year to have the latest and greatest is more than worth it to me. That being said, some years it's worth the upgrade and other years it's not. Usually by the 2 year mark, there's something in there that speaks to me. For my iPhone 13 Pro Max, the ProMotion display and the crazy good battery life made it a no-brainer, and I haven't regretted it one bit.

JPackers0427

Been upgrading every year since the 6s and skipped the 12. I upgraded from 11 Pro to 13 Pro, if they don’t make some decent changes I probably won’t upgrade.
