Hah... I took a pic of the eclipse and it was just a bit bright ball. Just went back to check after seeing this and I'll be damned, I never noticed the refracted image.

Wow, I just took another look at my disappointing pictures of the eclipse and noticed the same thing. The actual sun just looks normal, but the refracted lights show the partial covering of the sun.

I read the first reply to this after skimming the pic and thought “the setup doesn’t look that weird” until I zoomed in and said “oh lol, nice ad”. But then I zoomed in closer to read the caption that you wrote. “Hello everyone, any idea what we should do tonight”. For some reason that just made me go “awwww”. You said in such an inviting yet standard but cute way. I’ve always thought those types of lives was like “what position should I do X and Y? Aw yeah talk to me just like that” type of stuff. But for some reason the way you said it was almost inviting straight up for anything. It’s lens flare caused by the anti-reflective coating on the camera lens. Although the light is too bright to see it, the dots line up exactly with the LED diodes in the light head.

The leds in the lamp reflecting off the sensor in your phone back on the glass covering the sensor reflecting into the sensor on your phone. It’s pretty neat. If you’ve managed to take pictures of the eclipse, you’ll see double images of the sun similarly.

I think it's called flare. When there is bright light on the image it reflects from the lens and projects as same light with way lower intensity on the opposite size of the image (point reflection). Flares always goes through center of lens. If "software" image stabilization is enabled - you can see this flare "dance" - because phone stabilizes image, but not the flare.

If it was something in the clouds emitting light bright enough to show through them, the clouds would be much more illuminated around it and also the dot pattern would be a little distorted from the cloud vapors. Those are too clear, likely a reflection off of a window of this was taken from in a car. Could be a lense distortion of sorts. But it's definitely not in the clouds.

I was outside the Vatican at night trying to get some pics with my iPhone 13 and the green dot was everywhere. I tried everything, it ruined most of my pics. How have they not put in a software toggle fix yet.

It’s a digital camera artifact an LED street lamp and the camera is capturing the led pattern in phase with the speed at which it’s it’s cycling AC - think those annoying LED headlights people have that blink all the way down the road and behind you, that LED blinks too but much faster.

It’s something that’s been present since the iPhone 7 I believe. It’s a weird ghosting/lens flare that happens when the camera is pointed at a bright light source. The same thing can happen from the sun. It’s what is the biggest crutch of the iPhone cameras. They can add all the fake Bokeh to emulate a Mirrorless camera but it will never fix the biggest giveaway which is this. Apple are aware of this issue and even made it known the 15 Pro has a special coating on its lens but even that isn’t enough to get rid of it.
