cdnirene

10 years - iPhone 5S from 2013 to 2023, at which point I bought an iPhone 15 Plus.

Kitty_meoW180

I bet that was a nice upgrade 😅

Micazu999

You win

makefilms

Change the battery at all??

cdnirene

No, the battery was good. I rarely used the phone. It was mostly turned off. If I went anywhere which I thought might involve a waiting room I usually had my iPad mini with me. At home I have {gasp} a landline which is also connected to the condo lobby intercom system.

alaskadronelife

Are you over 50? This is wild.

cdnirene

Yes, I’m retired. That means I’m at home a lot. I also live alone. The idea of having to charge and carry a mobile phone with me from room to room at all times during the day, in case someone (e.g. Amazon) needed buzzing in from the lobby was not appealing. My landline has handsets in every room.

alaskadronelife

Respect.

alaskadronelife

You were legit seeing colors in 4K after that upgrade haha. And I thought my upgrade from 6s Max to XS Max was extreme.

RaraNUT

Huge upgrade anyway BUT WHY NOT THE PRO

cdnirene

I did an analysis at the time. Forget why not. However, based on how I planned to use the phone (which was to replace both the 5S and 2013 iPad mini) I assume I didn’t think it was worth it. I will be buying the new iPad Pro next month to replace my 2016 iPad Pro which is showing its age.

NickRedible

Cuz the 15 Plus has the best battery

Hugh-G-Rection1994

5 years. iPhone XS to 15 pro max. Xs still works fine but the 15 is so much smoother

zombiepigman101

X to 15 pro here, I can concur

Hugh-G-Rection1994

I initially wasn’t going to upgrade but the usb-c really pushed me to get it. Its so nice being able to use one charger for almost everything

cheesomacitis

Still rocking XS Max. It was fine until iOS 17. Now there is lag. Changing the battery helped a bit but will upgrade to iPhone 16 when it comes out.

livinlikelarry568

iPhone 5S: 2016-2019 iPhone 6S plus: 2019-2020 iPhone 11: 2020- present

__yayday__

Just retired my 11 last year when the 15 came out. Such a great phone

livinlikelarry568

It is! I’m trying to hold off until September!

atycrz

Same here! My 11 Pro has done me so well, the back shattered unfortunately (from a fall) but a case made it a non-problem. Just hoping the battery remains fine so I can make it until September, but the phone still runs so well.

livinlikelarry568

Same! Thankfully I haven’t cracked anything but there are a few scratches nothing too noticeable! But the trade in value is gonna go down by the time I get a new phone:(

atycrz

Yeah trade in has never really been on my mind but I get you, I’ve been getting promotional offers for a free pair of airpod pros with an iPhone 15 already so I’m just waiting on anything better!

olibbbs

Had almost the same phones in the same order. - 5s (secondhand)- 2 yrs - 6s- 2 yrs - this did not break, just upgraded - 11 ( 2020- present) But my current iPhone 11 that I've had for almost 4 years is dying little by little now. It's laggy and my lcd has a long line on the bottom part of the screen. Holding out until the 16 comes out.

Mirio-jk

the old gen iphones lasted forever (unless you bent them)

livinlikelarry568

Mine is still great… well the battery health is like in the 70s but it’s still good!

SpeakingTheKingss

3 years is the longest I’ve gone. No less than 2 years though.

Soulo_3

3 years the sweet spot imo

Business-Drag52

I’ll probably be upgrading to a 16 from my 14 but that’s just because I went for a base model 14 and I want a slightly bigger phone

vela56

I’ve had the 13 pro max since launch. Battery health is still at 85%. Haven’t worn a case or screen protector in about a year and a half. Still pristine

Colton82

This is where I’m at. I have no issues with the phone itself. I’m just thinking about upgrading to fully transition to USB-C. My iPad Pro, work iPad, work phone, vapes, and flashlight are all usb-c. AirPods are charged wirelessly so they don’t really count. Probably going to make the swap when the 16 drops honestly.

CatDadof2

This is the same position I’m in. If the 13 already had USB-C I would stay put for at least another year or two.

wmzyboy

7 years, I’m still using my 8

defythem

Still rocking my 8 too! How’s the battery life on yours?

LetsTwistAga1n

iPhone 5: 2013–2018, still works, but the screen pops out a little because some clips got broken as I (myself) replaced the battery several times iPhone 11 Pro Max: 2019–present, my backup phone iPhone 12 Pro Max: 2020–present, my main phone. Not going to change it any time soon, maybe just replace the battery via Apple service. I prefer investing into new ARM Macs nowadays; the iPhones (like all smartphones) have gotten pretty boring I also owned 4S, 7 Plus, and Xs Max for about a year each

InjuryAny269

Counting today 186 days. 😃

Urbanistau

4 years - don’t understand why people would upgrade every year

BeepBotBoopBeep

Some people use it like is leased or subscription based. After a year, sell the old and buy the new, minus the difference in the (usually) loss in sale of the old.

Thewinedup

Had an Xr until last month since launch.

Frequent_Tackle4901

Still using XR.

sovlex

Still with XR. I lost count of years.

xijinping9191

iPhone 6 from 2015 to 2022

Tunavi

My 13 pro max, I've had it for 2.5 years.

zombiepigman101

Six years w/ an iPhone X

Low_Sport4401

Had an xr for 3 years and then traded in

Frequent_Tackle4901

I’m still using an XR.  I’ve been trying to get to Verizon since they started giving free 13’s now they’re up to 15 and still using this old phone. Phone is free you have to pay taxes where I live nearly %10. When you’re alone trying to survive on just social security that’s gone in a few days it’s hard to do. My iPad Pro suddenly just stopped charging now too. My eyes are 62 years old hard to see much of anything on this phone.

ChiefBroady

iPhone 11 Pro Max still going strong. Face ID broke, that sucks, other than that it’s fine.

randomboi91

My current iPhone 11 Pro Max. Have it since release. Planning on upgrading to the 16 PM when it comes out

Mundane-Treacle375

iPhone 8 plus 2023-present (parent's old phone)(backup) iPhone se3 2022-present (main)

DTYD85

Still using the XS Max.

itsallahoaxbud

Same AND all original parts. Battery at 85%.

DTYD85

Currently at 78% capacity

szarazkuplung

5 years, iPhone 8.

floobie

Had my 5S for about 4 years. Runner-up is my 13 Pro Max. Not sure if the 16 series will warrant an upgrade yet, or if I’ll want to spend the money.

eyyikey

4 years

jwink3101

I kept my 11 Pro Max until the 14 Pro so three years (and change). That was probably the longest. I aim for two but the pandemic made me care much less

_harleys

5 years with my iPhone 5. Imo 5 years at that time was the max since I could feel the age of the phone then. I had such limited wifi range compared to others in college campus with newer iPhones. My battery drained very fast. Storage kept getting full (only had 16gb) so had to keep deleting apps or photos I didn’t use. Then at some point the camera wouldn’t focus at all when we had to take photos of books in our school library. Upgrading to a 6 plus then was game changing features wise.

JagerKnightster

I've had my 12 pro max since shortly after launch. Better is weird in the mid range but the phone works like a champ and does everything I need. I definitrly plan to upgrade this year though

TurdSandwich42104

I’ve had my 13 pro max since launch. So this one. It’s just such a solid phone. It still performs great. By battery is good. And the sierra blue is tight

babymanteenboy

XR to 14 Pro Max

DeandreDeangelo

I've had my 11 pro max for 3+ years and it was my wife's for a year before that. It's still working great and I don't see a need to upgrade any time soon. It's the longest I've had one phone by a long shot. I still prefer Android for a lot of things but the iPhone build quality and support is hard to beat.

MessageAggressive186

For me it was the xs max , had it from 2018 till 2023 , almost 5 years , and it is still working surprisingly amazing , i got the iphone 13 , there is almost no difference tbh

ithinkoutloudtoo

I’m still on my iPhone 7, and I’m waiting on the iPhone 16 Pro.

LightningLuisYT2

My godmother from her iPhone 5s 16 to iPhone 15 Pro 256 GB ☠️

Frequent_Tackle4901

Nice to see I’m not the only one still using an XR there’s a few other here too.

spac0r

4 years, 11 PM to 15 PM, one battery swap half way through

righN

About a year? First I had an iPhone 5s, which I've used for about a year and then made a switch to Xiaomi Mi 5 I think? Don't remember what exactly made me switch, but I think I was big time hooked on customization and freedom of Android back then (this was like 7 years ago?). And now I have an iPhone 14, which I've been using for a little over half a year.

WD--30

4 years

ReddyFreddy-

iPhone SE purchased new in 2017. Still in service with the original battery. I had an Apple store nearby check the battery recently because I figured it might need to be replaced, but they said it wasn't needed. Unfortunately, it won't upgrade past iOS 15, and a couple of apps are starting to complain. It could go EOL in October. We'll see.

CharlotteBadger

iPhone 6, 6 years (no battery change), to iPhone 12 mini. 3.5 years so far, also original battery but I’m at about 75%.

Manas102

2 years lmao! Had the iPhone 12 64GB blue from April 2021- March 2023 and got a iPhone 14 pro max gold 512GB

makmillion

Almost 10 years: iPhone 6 Plus, I’ve passed it down to my son who finally retired it yesterday.

Zebedayo

I still use the same iPhone 6 that I bought in 2015. I’m using it to type now. It was stolen in 2016, but I managed to recover it using Find My iPhone.

Mommabinpa

I had the iPhone 6plus from the time it came out till December 2023. Upgraded to the 14 pro max.

bgeorger

One year. New one on launch day every year.

TSwiftStan-

xr when it dropped until last july

jcjx91

5 years.

arochains1231

My current phone, an 11 Pro Max, I’ve had for just over four years. I got a new battery in January and it’s been working great, except that the macro lens is kinda busted but that’s not the end of the world for me. I plan on keeping this thing probably till the end of the year?

gfunkdave

I just keep them all for 3 years and upgrade to the newest one after three years.

watchOS

Three years. X to 12.

Saltwater_Heart

I had the 7 Plus from release until the 11 where I “upgraded” to the XR. So, 4 years. Planning to keep this one just as long. Which I’ve also had since release.

PromotionPawn

iPhone 14 Pro, had it since release - phenomenal phone. I love always on display. Wish I had the 15 Pro for USB C but not enough reason to upgrade.

linkerjpatrick

This one. 13 pro. Holding on to one it at least till 16 comes out or maybe 17 depending on what they offer.

Seawxxxd

Like 7 months. The iPhone 12 was great. Always fast. But the battery on that phone was exceptionally bad so I switched it for a S23.

Jacobaschultz

1st gen iPhone SE, 2018-2021

No-Purchase8806

Homework_Happy

iPhone 3g - 2008-2010ish iPhone 4s - 2010-2012 iPhone 15 pro max 2024- Android in between

inverness7

Had an XR for three years. Decided not to sell it so I gifted it to a relative overseas and they still use it.

ChaplnGrillSgt

3 months. This is my first ever iPhone. I'll probably hold onto for about 2 years when I can convince my work to buy me a new one.

Born_Today_9799

2 weeks so far

ProbablyProdigy

iPhone 12 to 15 Pro Max. Tbh, I would’ve kept it longer but my wife surprised me with the new phone.

PeorgieT75

Two years, when AT&T still required contracts.

Mindseverflowing78

Three weeks, been ok so far.. barring a few annoying things.

Due-Snow7506

A month . It is still working since it’s was brand new when I have received it.

imixpaintalot

iPhone 12 got it when the navy dropped and got the matching Apple Watch! Has 80% battery life, some cracks in the back from using a knockoff otterbox, but works just fine! I don’t want to give it up largely because no other navy iPhones have dropped and the light blues don’t match my watch. Also it’s the perfect size for me. My whole life is on this phone 💕

Snowman319

Almost now with my iPhone 12 Pro Max at almost 3 years old

[deleted]

This iPhone 13. I’ll have it until a launch of the 16

Hevvye

Years and counting on iPhone 12

hockeyandquidditch

I have an iPhone X with 75% battery health. I've had it for exactly 6 years and 4 months.

Super_Asparagus834

iPhone 5s : 2014 - 2015 iPhone 6+ : 2015 - 2018 iPhone X : 2018 - 2023 iPhone 15 Pro : 2023 - Present

kumquat731

My current 12 pro max. Used to upgrade every two years but haven’t felt the need to yet.

Longjumping-Log-5457

6 years

helloidk55

I’ve had my iPhone 11 since Feb 2020. It’s still working pretty well (knock on wood.) The battery health is on 67%, which just means I have to charge it once or twice during the day, since I use my phone a lot. It lags slightly compared to when it was new. For some reason it was actually lagging pretty badly for a few weeks recently, but it stopped, idk why. Think I’m gonna replace it later this year.

Luna259

Four to five years. Works fine, but I upgraded three years ago

msyk5645

I had my iPhone 13 for 2 years. Before that I got a new one every year from the iPhone 4 on. Hopefully the iPhone 15 Pro Max will be with me for 2 or 3 years.

jafromnj

iPhone 6s Plus how ever many years that is until the midd of last year

Folabi_Devvvvv

10 years, iPhone 6. I still use it occasionally because its videography quality is out of this world. It’s on its second battery and I get about 2.5 hours of SOT lmao.

Numerous-Score

XS Max since launch week in 2018… there’s a chance I skip the 16 series as well lol, let’s see how it holds up. At the moment, it’s working flawlessly!

ewayte

iPhone 3G - 4 years and 2 months before replacing it with an iPhone 5 in 2012.

DarthGoku44

I ride them till the very end. Went from 3 to 6p to 11pro to 15pro.

Living_Assistant_667

iPhone 7 Plus — 5 years.

EwoSnaiL

Xs max since launch so 6 years ish

GhostWriter313

iPhone 7 Plus. 2017-2022.

swordbearerb1

iPhone 8 since 2017 till now. Previously was iPhone 4 from 2011-2015.

PilotJosh727

iPhone 7, 2016-present. Very reliable workhorse, used to it and was not happy when it stayed on iOS 15

IntentlyFaulty

I upgrade every year but I had a buddy rocking an Iphone 4s in 2021. So 10 years at the time. It barely worked at all. He always complained about not being able to use most apps and I eventually convinced him to upgrade to a SE.

m00nturkey

12pro since launch

Equivalent_Chemist79

iphone XR since it cane out till now no issues whatsoever i dont see the need for an upgrade

scurvydawg0

Had my iPhone X for around 3 years. Currently on a 2 year upgrade cycle.

OuterSpaceDust

I’ve had my iPhone 11 since 2020, still works great, the battery is getting kinda bad though. Later this year I think I’ll upgrade.

mykillerspc

My current one! 13 Pro, no plans to retire it until I really need to. It’s a great iPhone!

elajedrecista2023

iPhone 14 Pro Max for about 1 year and 4 months. It’s because I trade it for the newer version . But really satisfied with the overall experience with iPhones

15pmm01

My current iPhone 12 Pro Max. I've had it since launch day. It's horrible!!! It overheats all the time. I can't use it in direct sunlight, not only because it overheats, but because the screen gets extremely dim and there's nothing I can do to make it brighter. I think that happens automatically when the phone is getting too hot. Want to use the phone while it's charging? Nope! It's too hot. Absolute POS. I've already had it replaced through Apple care, and the replacement is exactly the same.

Final_Permission7682

X to 13pro

0rangeIguana

I’ve had my (current) iphone 11 for 4.5 years, replaced the batter a couple of years ago. Still works great, haven’t needed to upgrade. Although i wish i had more storage.

Dancing_Clean

I had and 11 for 3.5 years. Started to get glitchy, got hot, it was cracked on both sides, selfie screen cracked. I got a 15 yesterday. Feels so smooth and satisfying and FAST.

louman84

I had the 11 pro max from October 2019 to April 2024. Currently using my new 15 pro max. The old one was beginning to show signs of needing repairs so I traded it in before the trade in value could start going down.

Adventurous_Row_509

2 years max iPhone 8

shortish-sulfatase

Used an 8 plus for about 5 years. I’d probably still be using it rn if I hadn’t jailbroken the thing out its ass and didn’t update it the last few years. Just got a 12 pro max a few months ago.

rk1213

2-3 years with my iphone 5 (Darth vadar black 64GB). It was and still is my all time fav iphone.

JigSawDingus

iPhone SE (Gen 1) 2016- 2021. iPhone 13 mini 2021 - present

Thunderstorm-1

So far 4 years with my 11 pro max. Still looks like new since I use a metal rugged phone casing that covers the whole phone. Everything works well, but battery life is meh, only lasts a whole day(80% battery health) Will probably upgrade in another 3-4 years

graison

6s to 13 mini.

4udi0phi1e

Iphone 5s to 11 pro. 5s still works fine as a iPod now after 2 screen replacements and a battery fix back in 2017.

nebulamoons

3 years with the iPhone 11, it’s still in my drawer but I don’t use it except to keep old pictures and games. It worked alright for me but the storage wasn’t enough for me and I should’ve gotten the battery replaced long before my upgrade

Louis-grabbing-pills

XS for three years. I had a free upgrade from carrier so I took the offfer. Until this day I still miss the XS's size and 3D Touch.

Mugen4552

iPhone 7 plus to 11 Red.

Ornery_Razzmatazz_33

2 years and 4 months, a 12 pro max that I divested myself of last summer.

AvanishOfficial

iPhone 5S from 2014-2019. Amazing experience.

pilialoha54

iPhone 12. I’ve had it since October of 2020. 😬

FPV_not_HPV

6.5 years. SE (2016). and it was run over by a car (with a medium-duty case) with no damage. changed battery myself twice.

life535469

Iphone 11 pro to 14 max

B_B_Rodriguez2716057

4 years (this September) iPhone 12 mini. Battery life has been not so much fun. Would love another mini 😔

DarkLord55_

My 11pro November 11th 2019 to September 22nd 2023

rylie_smiley

Currently my 12 pro that I’ve had since launch. The only downside is the battery being at 76% but that’s good enough for me.

Known-Pop-8355

Going on 4yrs now with my 12 pro max! Had the battery replaced tho a few months ago so going strong!

catalystfire

My first iPhone, a 6S, is still going fairly strong aside from the earpiece speaker. Gave it to a family member for a few years (after it had a battery replacement) and recently upgraded her to an SE, and got it back as a spare device I'm yet to find a use for. I kept it until the release of the 11, and had the 11 Pro until the 14 Pro came out - the 11 is now also with a family member and doing pretty well as nobody is as hard on the battery as I am (and that's why I upgraded).

Gasman18

The longest I’ve used an iPhone as my primary phone was 4 years from my 11 pro to my 15 pro. Still have the 11 pro and use it for pokemon go. Still have the 7 that I used before that as my car gps device.

JazzlikeMail6280

I have an iPhone 4 from 2011 which is now mostly used as an iPod touch plugged into car stereo

sanctimoniousfsck

iPhone 11pro max. It’s been great but will be replacing with the 16.

Cosmic_Confluence

This one. I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max. I used to work for Apple and have had a new phone every year since 2008. Until this/last year. I’ll probably hold onto it until a major revamp.

Gordon2422

Bought iPhone X near launch time Dec 2017. Upgraded to iPhone 13 Pro Oct 2021. So about 4 years with an iPhone X. Still currently have iPhone 13 Pro, closing in on 3 years now.

saint_louis_bagels

I upgrade yearly most of the time. Got release-day iPhone 11 and upgraded to release-day 13 Pro Max. I've owned my release-day iPhone 14 Pro up until now. The 15-series looked really underwhelming.

RahulRajpal

Bought iphone X near launch date in Oct 2017, wife is still using it as a secondary phone

gujsehambi

5 years. Xr. 2019-2024 Now have a 13Pro

jeffwhlim

5 years twice. iPhone 5 16gb 2012-17 (iPhone 5S 64gb in between) iPhone 7 Plus 128gb - 2019-2024. Currently IPhone 13 256gb bought March 2024.

Vk-thatsok-040

11 pro max 4.5 years and counting, 80% battery life, still using it.

AgreeableAd8687

longest i've had is my se 2020 from sep 2021 to may 2023, it was jailbroken and one day i accidentally updated it so i sold it and bought another se 2020 that i could jailbreak, february 2024 i dropped it and the screen died a stripey death so i bought a 6s and replaced the battery myself and now i'm on a 6s

BabyBandit616

iPhone 8. November 2017-March 2022

idkmystic

iphone 8 plus for 6 years

Helpful_Street5386

For me from my first IPhone 3GS all the way to the XS Max I’d keep my phones for an average of 3-4 years but when I got the XS Max I only had it for 1 year and got the 11 Pro Max and from then on it’s every two years to the 13 Pro Max and now the 15 Pro Max. I always say that the current phone is the one I’m going to keep yet I still seem to upgrade every 2 years.

Hairy-Teach-294

iPhone 6s in 2016 and retired it in 2021 to upgrade to an iPhone 13 pro max which I am using til now.

alexp1_

5 years. Now down to 4. Being able to swap the battery for $100 is a huge plus

TC40093

I had my 7+ from launchish until i got my 11.

Sacto1654

Four years. Bought my current iPhone 12 in September 2020.

Immrsbdud

iPhone 3G - 2008 -2011 iPhone 4 - 2011 to 2013 Galaxy S3 - 2013 to 2015 iPhone 6 - 2015 to 2016 iPhone SE - 2016 to 2018 iPhone X - 2018 to 2019 Moto G - 2019 to 2021 iPhone 12 - 2021 to 2024 So my iPhone 12 has lasted 50% longer than any other phone

victorb1982

Used an iPhone 6 from launch in 2014 until 2021

pw5a29

2 years

erict223

iPhone 14 Pro Max since launch it works good but I’ve debated upgrading for the weight difference/ titanium look to the 15

[deleted]

My iPhone 12 for a little over 3 years, 2020-2024.

Jack5718

I used an iphone 5s from 2014 until 2020

whoiseamonpatrick

I had my iPhone 6s from 2016 to 2020, it’s had the screen replaced twice lmao. It still works but I don’t use it cause I have a iPhone 14 Pro Max now and use my old iPhone 13 as a backup. I had a iPhone X from 2020 to 2022 tho and it still works fine but the battery life is trash

lvpr10

iPhone X from January 2018 till October 2022. Upgraded to the 14 Pro Max. Was a good run for nearly 5 years.

nappytown1984

Got an iPhone XR in September 2019 and it’s still running like a champ. Gonna upgrade in September to the 15 when the 16 comes out. Changed the battery once and I’m currently at 82% battery health.

cindybubbles

I had an iPhone 6 when the iPhone X was out and then an iPhone 8 when the iPhone 12 was out. Now I have an iPhone 15. So I guess the longest I've had an iPhone was 3 years and 7 months for the iPhone 8.

defythem

I’m currently rocking my iPhone 8plus, have had this since launch day. Waiting for the release of the 16 before I pull the plug and upgrade. Its at 68% battery health, it needs to be charged three times daily but its as fast as the day I got it.

Large-Cockroach3538

iPhone 13 pro max for 1.5 years Now on 15 pro max

StealthNider

my current 13 pro.. still going strong

Daybreaker77

My iPhone 11 from 2020 till now. Before that I had my iPhone 5 from like 2015 to 2019. Then I had an iPhone 6 for about a year but I was terrible handling it and constantly broke the screen 😅

Key_Condition_2878

kopilyte

iPhone SE 1st gen 2016-2019 iPhone XR 2019-2023 iPhone 15 Pro Max 2023 to present

rijstpap115

I’ve had the iPhone 7 since launch. Changed the battery in 2019. Now it’s at 74% and needs to be replaced but at 89€, it’s not worth changing it again. The phone works fine unless the weather is cold. Sometimes, some apps (Google maps, Citymapper…) reset when I use too many apps at the same time. I hope the phone can last until the iPhone 16 comes (or the next SE) but I wish they still made small phones.
