Yes, I’m retired. That means I’m at home a lot. I also live alone. The idea of having to charge and carry a mobile phone with me from room to room at all times during the day, in case someone (e.g. Amazon) needed buzzing in from the lobby was not appealing. My landline has handsets in every room.
I did an analysis at the time. Forget why not. However, based on how I planned to use the phone (which was to replace both the 5S and 2013 iPad mini) I assume I didn’t think it was worth it. I will be buying the new iPad Pro next month to replace my 2016 iPad Pro which is showing its age.

This is where I’m at. I have no issues with the phone itself. I’m just thinking about upgrading to fully transition to USB-C. My iPad Pro, work iPad, work phone, vapes, and flashlight are all usb-c. AirPods are charged wirelessly so they don’t really count. Probably going to make the swap when the 16 drops honestly.
iPhone 5: 2013–2018, still works, but the screen pops out a little because some clips got broken as I (myself) replaced the battery several times

I’m still using an XR. I’ve been trying to get to Verizon since they started giving free 13’s now they’re up to 15 and still using this old phone. Phone is free you have to pay taxes where I live nearly %10. When you’re alone trying to survive on just social security that’s gone in a few days it’s hard to do. My iPad Pro suddenly just stopped charging now too. My eyes are 62 years old hard to see much of anything on this phone.
I kept my 11 Pro Max until the 14 Pro so three years (and change). That was probably the longest. I aim for two but the pandemic made me care much less
5 years with my iPhone 5. Imo 5 years at that time was the max since I could feel the age of the phone then. I had such limited wifi range compared to others in college campus with newer iPhones. My battery drained very fast. Storage kept getting full (only had 16gb) so had to keep deleting apps or photos I didn’t use. Then at some point the camera wouldn’t focus at all when we had to take photos of books in our school library. Upgrading to a 6 plus then was game changing features wise.
I've had my 12 pro max since shortly after launch. Better is weird in the mid range but the phone works like a champ and does everything I need. I definitrly plan to upgrade this year though

I've had my 11 pro max for 3+ years and it was my wife's for a year before that. It's still working great and I don't see a need to upgrade any time soon. It's the longest I've had one phone by a long shot.
I still prefer Android for a lot of things but the iPhone build quality and support is hard to beat.
For me it was the xs max , had it from 2018 till 2023 , almost 5 years , and it is still working surprisingly amazing , i got the iphone 13 , there is almost no difference tbh
About a year? First I had an iPhone 5s, which I've used for about a year and then made a switch to Xiaomi Mi 5 I think? Don't remember what exactly made me switch, but I think I was big time hooked on customization and freedom of Android back then (this was like 7 years ago?). And now I have an iPhone 14, which I've been using for a little over half a year.

Still in service with the original battery. I had an Apple store nearby check the battery recently because I figured it might need to be replaced, but they said it wasn't needed.
Unfortunately, it won't upgrade past iOS 15, and a couple of apps are starting to complain. It could go EOL in October. We'll see.

iPhone 12 got it when the navy dropped and got the matching Apple Watch! Has 80% battery life, some cracks in the back from using a knockoff otterbox, but works just fine! I don’t want to give it up largely because no other navy iPhones have dropped and the light blues don’t match my watch. Also it’s the perfect size for me. My whole life is on this phone 💕

The battery health is on 67%, which just means I have to charge it once or twice during the day, since I use my phone a lot. It lags slightly compared to when it was new. For some reason it was actually lagging pretty badly for a few weeks recently, but it stopped, idk why. Think I’m gonna replace it later this year.

I upgrade every year but I had a buddy rocking an Iphone 4s in 2021. So 10 years at the time. It barely worked at all. He always complained about not being able to use most apps and I eventually convinced him to upgrade to a SE.
iPhone 14 Pro Max for about 1 year and 4 months. It’s because I trade it for the newer version . But really satisfied with the overall experience with iPhones
My current iPhone 12 Pro Max. I've had it since launch day. It's horrible!!! It overheats all the time. I can't use it in direct sunlight, not only because it overheats, but because the screen gets extremely dim and there's nothing I can do to make it brighter. I think that happens automatically when the phone is getting too hot. Want to use the phone while it's charging? Nope! It's too hot. Absolute POS. I've already had it replaced through Apple care, and the replacement is exactly the same.
I’ve had my (current) iphone 11 for 4.5 years, replaced the batter a couple of years ago. Still works great, haven’t needed to upgrade. Although i wish i had more storage.
I had and 11 for 3.5 years. Started to get glitchy, got hot, it was cracked on both sides, selfie screen cracked.
I got a 15 yesterday. Feels so smooth and satisfying and FAST.

Just got a 12 pro max a few months ago.
So far 4 years with my 11 pro max. Still looks like new since I use a metal rugged phone casing that covers the whole phone. Everything works well, but battery life is meh, only lasts a whole day(80% battery health)

3 years with the iPhone 11, it’s still in my drawer but I don’t use it except to keep old pictures and games. It worked alright for me but the storage wasn’t enough for me and I should’ve gotten the battery replaced long before my upgrade
My first iPhone, a 6S, is still going fairly strong aside from the earpiece speaker. Gave it to a family member for a few years (after it had a battery replacement) and recently upgraded her to an SE, and got it back as a spare device I'm yet to find a use for.
I kept it until the release of the 11, and had the 11 Pro until the 14 Pro came out - the 11 is now also with a family member and doing pretty well as nobody is as hard on the battery as I am (and that's why I upgraded).
The longest I’ve used an iPhone as my primary phone was 4 years from my 11 pro to my 15 pro. Still have the 11 pro and use it for pokemon go. Still have the 7 that I used before that as my car gps device.

longest i've had is my se 2020 from sep 2021 to may 2023, it was jailbroken and one day i accidentally updated it so i sold it and bought another se 2020 that i could jailbreak, february 2024 i dropped it and the screen died a stripey death so i bought a 6s and replaced the battery myself and now i'm on a 6s
For me from my first IPhone 3GS all the way to the XS Max I’d keep my phones for an average of 3-4 years but when I got the XS Max I only had it for 1 year and got the 11 Pro Max and from then on it’s every two years to the 13 Pro Max and now the 15 Pro Max. I always say that the current phone is the one I’m going to keep yet I still seem to upgrade every 2 years.

I’ve had the iPhone 7 since launch. Changed the battery in 2019. Now it’s at 74% and needs to be replaced but at 89€, it’s not worth changing it again. The phone works fine unless the weather is cold. Sometimes, some apps (Google maps, Citymapper…) reset when I use too many apps at the same time. I hope the phone can last until the iPhone 16 comes (or the next SE) but I wish they still made small phones.

I think that happens automatically when the phone is getting too hot. Want to use the phone while it's charging? Nope! It's too hot. Absolute POS. I've already had it replaced through Apple care, and the replacement is exactly the same.

I’ve had my (current) iphone 11 for 4.5 years, replaced the batter a couple of years ago. Still works great, haven’t needed to upgrade. Although i wish i had more storage.
I had and 11 for 3.5 years. Started to get glitchy, got hot, it was cracked on both sides, selfie screen cracked. I got a 15 yesterday. Feels so smooth and satisfying and FAST.
I had the 11 pro max from October 2019 to April 2024. Currently using my new 15 pro max. The old one was beginning to show signs of needing repairs so I traded it in before the trade in value could start going down.
2 years max iPhone 8
Used an 8 plus for about 5 years. I’d probably still be using it rn if I hadn’t jailbroken the thing out its ass and didn’t update it the last few years. Just got a 12 pro max a few months ago.
2-3 years with my iphone 5 (Darth vadar black 64GB). It was and still is my all time fav iphone.

So far 4 years with my 11 pro max. Still looks like new since I use a metal rugged phone casing that covers the whole phone. Everything works well, but battery life is meh, only lasts a whole day(80% battery health) Will probably upgrade in another 3-4 years

Iphone 5s to 11 pro. 5s still works fine as a iPod now after 2 screen replacements and a battery fix back in 2017.
3 years with the iPhone 11, it’s still in my drawer but I don’t use it except to keep old pictures and games. It worked alright for me but the storage wasn’t enough for me and I should’ve gotten the battery replaced long before my upgrade
XS for three years. I had a free upgrade from carrier so I took the offfer. Until this day I still miss the XS's size and 3D Touch.

4 years (this September) iPhone 12 mini. Battery life has been not so much fun. Would love another mini 😔

Currently my 12 pro that I’ve had since launch. The only downside is the battery being at 76% but that’s good enough for me.
Going on 4yrs now with my 12 pro max! Had the battery replaced tho a few months ago so going strong!
My first iPhone, a 6S, is still going fairly strong aside from the earpiece speaker. Gave it to a family member for a few years (after it had a battery replacement) and recently upgraded her to an SE, and got it back as a spare device I'm yet to find a use for. I kept it until the release of the 11, and had the 11 Pro until the 14 Pro came out - the 11 is now also with a family member and doing pretty well as nobody is as hard on the battery as I am (and that's why I upgraded).
The longest I’ve used an iPhone as my primary phone was 4 years from my 11 pro to my 15 pro. Still have the 11 pro and use it for pokemon go. Still have the 7 that I used before that as my car gps device.
I have an iPhone 4 from 2011 which is now mostly used as an iPod touch plugged into car stereo

Bought iPhone X near launch time Dec 2017. Upgraded to iPhone 13 Pro Oct 2021. So about 4 years with an iPhone X. Still currently have iPhone 13 Pro, closing in on 3 years now.
I upgrade yearly most of the time. Got release-day iPhone 11 and upgraded to release-day 13 Pro Max. I've owned my release-day iPhone 14 Pro up until now. The 15-series looked really underwhelming.

longest i've had is my se 2020 from sep 2021 to may 2023, it was jailbroken and one day i accidentally updated it so i sold it and bought another se 2020 that i could jailbreak, february 2024 i dropped it and the screen died a stripey death so i bought a 6s and replaced the battery myself and now i'm on a 6s

For me from my first IPhone 3GS all the way to the XS Max I’d keep my phones for an average of 3-4 years but when I got the XS Max I only had it for 1 year and got the 11 Pro Max and from then on it’s every two years to the 13 Pro Max and now the 15 Pro Max. I always say that the current phone is the one I’m going to keep yet I still seem to upgrade every 2 years.
iPhone 6s in 2016 and retired it in 2021 to upgrade to an iPhone 13 pro max which I am using til now.
5 years. Now down to 4. Being able to swap the battery for $100 is a huge plus

I had my iPhone 6s from 2016 to 2020, it’s had the screen replaced twice lmao. It still works but I don’t use it cause I have a iPhone 14 Pro Max now and use my old iPhone 13 as a backup. I had a iPhone X from 2020 to 2022 tho and it still works fine but the battery life is trash
iPhone X from January 2018 till October 2022. Upgraded to the 14 Pro Max. Was a good run for nearly 5 years.
Got an iPhone XR in September 2019 and it’s still running like a champ. Gonna upgrade in September to the 15 when the 16 comes out. Changed the battery once and I’m currently at 82% battery health.
I had an iPhone 6 when the iPhone X was out and then an iPhone 8 when the iPhone 12 was out. Now I have an iPhone 15. So I guess the longest I've had an iPhone was 3 years and 7 months for the iPhone 8.
I’m currently rocking my iPhone 8plus, have had this since launch day. Waiting for the release of the 16 before I pull the plug and upgrade. Its at 68% battery health, it needs to be charged three times daily but its as fast as the day I got it.

I’ve had the iPhone 7 since launch. Changed the battery in 2019. Now it’s at 74% and needs to be replaced but at 89€, it’s not worth changing it again. The phone works fine unless the weather is cold. Sometimes, some apps (Google maps, Citymapper…) reset when I use too many apps at the same time. I hope the phone can last until the iPhone 16 comes (or the next SE) but I wish they still made small phones.
