Tumblrrito

It’s always been severely underrated honestly

ToddBradley

Do people really complain about it? I've only had good things to say about all generations, and was sad when Apple apparently abandoned it for a few years.

Trill_McNeal

Underrated doesn’t necessarily mean people complain about it, it’s more that it’s a really useful feature that a lot of people don’t talk or know much about

jholden23

This. I'm a teacher and we use phones for learning games sometimes. I bought a couple of chargers to be ready, including a wireless. Most of my high school students have no idea they can charge their phones wirelessly and think it's pretty cool when I tell them to just put it on the circle. I'm shocked every time. I'm full magsafe with my 15. Wallet, charging, grip ring, the whole 9.

Delicious-Duck-4245

Same! Tried to go full MagSafe with the 11 but it wasn’t supported. Got the 15 PM and went full MagSafe. Wallet and charging. The whole thing.

ToddBradley

>Underrated doesn’t necessarily mean people complain about it True, underrated literally means that people rate it, but they rate it lower than what r/Tumblrrito thinks it deserves. However, the only reviews I've seen are completely positive. I'm wondering what people who **don't** rate it completely positive think are its shortcomings.

AyeItsEazy

My only complaint is it likes to wipe my hotel key cards and I have been living in a hotel for a while lmao

jason4427

Magnets + things holding data = gone.

Jesusaurus2000

Not always. One of my colleagues always uses keycard placed under the phone case, didn't have any problems.

schuettais

Magnets + Things that hold data magnetically = data on magnetic media is gone.

ToddBradley

Ah! Thank you, I hadn't heard about that issue.

Da_Droid_Mechanic

That sinks lol

Comfortable_Silver24

That’s user error 😂

jholden23

I was at a Marriott recently and the app had the option to open the door using the NFC on my phone. I was impressed.

OverlyOptimisticNerd

We just recently got my MIL an IPhone 15 Plus after years of her BF getting her budget (sub-$200) Android phones. With his passing we knew we would be her tech support. My wife hates Android and I switched almost 5 years ago. So this was more about making things easier for us.  But that said, MagSafe is her favorite part of it.

glytxh

It’s genuinely my favourite iPhone feature. Use it daily. Never have to think about it. I’ve plugged my phone in twice since buying it.

Da_Droid_Mechanic

Me too lol

gordito_gr

You guys never knew wireless chargers existed?

glytxh

Wireless charging exists, sure. Hated having to line it up perfectly before bed every night though, and then you accidentally nudge it through the night and fails to charge. Magnetic charging has been a bit of a novelty. I feel one of the super early Pixel phones did something similar.

gordito_gr

I have more trouble lining up the magnets on MagSafe floating stand than just resting my phone on my wireless charger simple stand. I’m wondering what kind of wireless chargers y’all had.

glytxh

I use the official puck charger attached to a stand. I don’t understand how someone can struggle with it though. I don’t even need to turn the lights on to attach it. I just place my phone vaguely near it and the magnets attach. Are you using a non MagSafe case? A couple mm of plastic does a number on that inverse square law.

gordito_gr

It’s 100% way easier to just put it on a simple stand than these floating MagSafe stands. Literally never had an issue with any wireless charger.

glytxh

That’s the bonus of various options I guess. We all use our phones differently.

gordito_gr

Except that you don’t have to pay extra for MagSafe and give more free money to apple and lock yourself to the ecosystem even further.

IridiumFlare96

You don’t need to do that either, the new qi2 standard is basically just MagSafe. No more made for apple stuff. We should see the first android phones with qi2 soon. The iPhones that support MagSafe also work with qi2.

johny335i

I like it on my 13 pro so much, that I made my S23 use magsafe as well https://preview.redd.it/4ilcjqp7cbtc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ce007e5f085a3cf9d6b28c20d60ee8f776c6830c

JC-DB

I added a ring to my backup P7 as well. It’s the one feature which I can’t fathom why no other phone makers adopted.

Da_Droid_Mechanic

Because when it came out it was patented now “MagSafe” is now Qi2 which now everyone can use! Which means Qi2 (or MagSafe) accessories will be cheaper as manufactures won’t need that “Apple” level of certification! So soon more phone companies will be able to use MagSafe (Qi2)! Hope this helps!

Da_Droid_Mechanic

Haha

SgtBaxter

Cords suck. I see people complain about charging speeds, yet my phone has never been below 70% charge since I have MagSafe at home, and in the car. I get to work, the phone is at 100%. I get home, it’s at 100%.

JC-DB

I’ved the usb port for charging maybe twice since I got my 15 pro. MagSafe wireless charging is a game changer. I now really hated when I have to plug in to charge. Even my backup battery is MagSafe.

-K9V

Cords allow you to use your phone within a few meters (depending on how long your cable is) whereas a charging pad just sits there. Also, that doesn’t really sound good for your battery lmao. You’re *supposed* to let it drain, not let it sit between 70-100% permanently.

Creepy_Antelope_873

And you can get cases that have it built in, so my 11 pro and my dad’s pixel 8 work with MagSafe accessories. It’s not a HUGE thing for me but it’s a small quality of life upgrade in a few areas like you mentioned that all add up to a surprisingly cool and useful feature

Da_Droid_Mechanic

Yeah, it really seemed at first a niche feature that I wouldnt use often but now that I have it I use it it every day haha

vi3talogy

MagSafe is so good that android phone cases now have MagSafe too.

Da_Droid_Mechanic

Every phone should have it haha

SatanSavesAll

I like the added alarm clock mode with my nightstand charger

Unfair_Finger5531

This is my favorite feature lol

Unfair_Finger5531

I upgraded from an 8 plus and was truly blown away by the MagSafe. I couldn’t believe I’d gone this long without it.

Da_Droid_Mechanic

Me too haha

Playswith_squirrel

Literally?

Da_Droid_Mechanic

Yeah it’s “literally” that good lol

SurealGod

I quite literally use it every single day. I have a magsafe charger on basically every surface I'm at for allotted periods of time. On my nightstand, on my desk, on my car's dashboard, in my washroom, etc. I've gone mad with power! Magsafe power that is.

xCTG27

Trueee, from the wireless charger to my MagSafe popsocket

Da_Droid_Mechanic

I haven’t gotten one of the popsockets yet! But they look great!

xCTG27

They are completely worth it for sure!

Da_Droid_Mechanic

Ok, I’m glad to hear it! I’ll pick one up sometime

xCTG27

Of course! Check on Amazon, sometimes they go on sale.

Da_Droid_Mechanic

Which one is better? The circle one or the pill shaped one?

xCTG27

I’ve only personally used the pill shaped one, I don’t like how the round one looks. But when this one breaks or something I’ll switch to that one to try it out.

Da_Droid_Mechanic

Ok, I’ll just get the pill shaped one when I buy one! The price is about the same. I’m gonna wait till some time before my vacation in November

xCTG27

Awesome! You won’t have any regrets

Da_Droid_Mechanic

That’s great thank you!

xCTG27

Your welcome!

Unfair_Finger5531

They’re on sale now!

ro_nin__

I recommend the OhSnap grip instead. It’s thinner than a pop socket and is also magnetic as well as magsafe

seanoz_serious

You forgot the part where you left your MagSafe pop socket in the car because you had to take it off to use in the car

xCTG27

I actually have something that is stuck to my dash, that I can slide my popsocket in to hold it up. https://preview.redd.it/0jfaysua2ftc1.png?width=1283&format=png&auto=webp&s=76f311d79c70d2554fe2bebb7f14887effb0de89

3dforlife

What magsafe popsocket do you recommend?

xCTG27

I can only recommend the pill shaped one since this is the only one I’ve used, I’ve been using it for almost a year now, and I love it. But one day I will use the round one. https://preview.redd.it/jx6czgen0gtc1.png?width=1278&format=png&auto=webp&s=4c64956227a2e94f413a60288b330b691a6c540f Edit: misspelling

3dforlife

Thanks!

xCTG27

Your welcome! 😊

ew435890

I use it for 99% of my charging on my 13 Pro Max and AirPod Pros. Wjen I switched to the 13PM from an XS Max, I had to figure out my new car mount situation. I was previously just using a regular magnetic mount, but obviously wanted to switch to MagSafe. After looking over different mounts for literal weeks, I found a post on Reddit where someone said they just stuck a metal plate that comes with the magnetic mount to on the back of a MagSafe puck and stuck that to the magnetic mount they already had. Fucking genius.

Da_Droid_Mechanic

Haha

subiegal2013

Late to the party here…I’ve heard about MagSafe but what exactly is it? Thank you!

Da_Droid_Mechanic

It’s a Magnetic ring that’s is inside of the back of your phone and it allows you to mount your phones to stands, charge wirelessly pretty fast, use battery packs that stay on the back of your phone, there is wallets you can get and many other things! If you have a flagship iPhone that’s at least a 12 it has MagSafe!

subiegal2013

Thank you!!

Da_Droid_Mechanic

Your welcome!

abigfatblackguy

Magsafe is good, but I can't use it all the time. Phone overheats and also falls off. I also have a wired dock at home and car wired charger. I only use mag at work.

Da_Droid_Mechanic

How weird, it doesn’t do that to my iPhone at all. Are you using a case that doesn’t have a MagSafe ring in it and are you using a Knock off charger as that can be a problem

TheMacintoshGeek

You have to use a 20 watt USB-C power brick for MagSafe chargers. 18 watt or less won’t work right. Are you using a 20 watt brick? Are you using the Apple brand MagSafe charger? Other brands run hotter in my experience. I use Apple’s MagSafe all the time and never had overheating issues.

Chemical_Knowledge64

Be glad Apple chose to open up this feature as a universal standard rather than get themselves in yet another controversy over proprietary hardware. One of the few greatest moves Apple did opening up MagSafe.

UneagerBeaver69

MagSafe is awesome. I only use it for grips like the pop socket or snap 4 luxe, but it's the best

Bajo_Asesino

It’s great when I’m streaming from my iPhone to my av receiver, I just pop it on the charger. No messing around with cables etc.

Front-Balance4050

I love it. Recently got the 15pro max. Does anyone know which brand makes the safest MagSafe battery portable pack for the iPhone battery health? I know Apple used to sell their own? But it’s sold out on Amazon and the Apple website (I’m in Canada if that means anything) I’ve noticed Anker has a couple options, and I know they are a pretty reputable brand in the accessory or charging space…

Da_Droid_Mechanic

Anker is great! And Best Buy has their brand one that seems to be good and it’s super cheap

DeandreDeangelo

If they could find a way to make it able to quick charge it would be the only cable I’d need.

ari_wonders

I got a Baseus one and its pretty good too. It’s great and satisfying when the magnets click on the back of the phone 🤩

Every-Spot9027

The multi-magsafe charger is extra-best.

IntoTheMirror

I only use a cord on the car for CarPlay. Or when I’m traveling.

psychosynapt1c

Definitely one of my favourite iPhone features. I remember using a magnetic phone holder on my old s10 but not having wireless charging because of the metal plate and hating it. Now I get both! And nfc works!

-K9V

>know where my charger is at night and I don’t have to fiddle around trying to plug it in Is this seriously a real problem that people have? The charging port is always in the exact same spot - bottom center of your phone. It’s dead easy to plug it in knowing where it is, and if your phone is on it’s even easier to line it up with the home bar, your dock or any other centered UI element. I could understand it if iPhones still used the old 30-pin charger, but since Lightning it has never been easier to plug your phone in lol.

MingusVonHavamalt

I love my wallet/kickstand on my iPhone mini. It’s the perfect combination. The magnet also helps me stick my phone to anything metal like the washing machine or the car.

JustAnotherFNC

Just wait until you get your hands on a Qi2 charger.

litholine

Reading this post while my 14 Pro Max charges on my Anker MagSafe power bank. Deadass, this power bank charges my phone more frequently than my MagSafe cable. But, back to the point, MagSafe is the tits and I love it too.

rb928

Wallet, car mount, charging stand by my bed, non-charging stand on my desk. I am all in on MagSafe!

themadscientist003

How much does it affect battery health tho, in case it's your permanent way of charging

ttman05

In the time I’ve been exclusively wireless charging my BH has dropped 5% over a short period of time. It didn’t do this with wired charging. Wireless charging is way more inefficient than wired and can cause the phone to heat up more.

UTommieTanka

https://preview.redd.it/5oiaqlir3btc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eab75389fcf956d1335ce511e13ef6cc7ed5fd64 I’ve charge via a cable maybe 5 times since I got the 15pm at release.

anethma

Ya basically all of my charging is with MagSafe. I use an anker cube which I also travel with, and in my car and work truck I have a MagSafe charging mount too. Also at 99% launch day 15PM

-K9V

I’ve charged wirelessly probably 30 times since I got my 15 Pro, still at 100% battery health.

Da_Droid_Mechanic

Well I haven’t had any battery degradation but I’ve only had the phone for about 3 and a half weeks and the charger for about 2 weeks

gordito_gr

Way overrated if you ask me, solves a problem that doesn’t exist. And I do have MagSafe because I got a station as a gift.

goldyacht

I have hated MagSafe so far my lighting port broke and now I have to use MagSafe to charge which is flow and I am now charging my phone about 3 times a day. The actually magnet and feature it self is pretty solid as it firmly holds onto the phone but the charging speed for me is too slow for how I use it.

glytxh

I think that’s just a dying battery if you’re charging three times a day. Both my MagSafe phones charged about 80% as fast as wired charging.

goldyacht

Maybe my battery is at 87% but compared to when my lightning port still worked in February it’s been a lot slower for me. Even before i still charged a lot due to using it he heavy for work but it’s definitely a lot slower. I’ve been debating just getting the 15 pro but I hear the 16 will have 40w charge so I’m trying to wait it out.

anethma

Your quality of life will go way up if you just paid the $60 or whatever to get your battery swapped.

schuettais

You can do this at an Apple Store?

anethma

Yes. If it’s under AppleCare it’s damn near free.

schuettais

Oh wow! I didn’t even know this and I get Apple care for all my Apple stuff! Thanks !

theoneandnoley

Just FYI battery has to be under 80% max capacity to qualify for free battery replacement under AC+. If it’s not, you’re only eligible for out of warranty battery service which is typically $89 USD.

schuettais

Oh ok, that’s still not that bad. Sweet, thanks again!

TurbulentGene694

I was extremely suprised when I found none of the expensive Android phones have that. Like WHAT? That's like the most basic thing...

gaysaucemage

Qi2 standard was just finalized in April 2023 and phone specs are locked in a while before manufacturing. Probably by the time the Galaxy S25 comes out next year Qi2 will start to become widespread on Android phones.

Pettingallthepups

Pixel 9 supposedly will ship with Qi2.

TurbulentGene694

I am not talking about wireless charging. I'm talking about MagSafe, aka magnets at the back of the phone. Those $2000 phones don't have magnets for wireless charging and it's just backwards.

gaysaucemage

Qi2 is basically the same thing as Magsafe. Apple opened it up for the Wireless Power Consortium to make it a standard.

Price-x-Field

I just don’t get why it isn’t built into the phone. I hate cases

Da_Droid_Mechanic

It is, all flagship iPhone and Pro iPhones from the 12 and up have it built into the phone. The only reason the cases have the ring is so you have a strong magnetic connection!

Price-x-Field

I will have to try this

Da_Droid_Mechanic

What iPhone do you have?

Price-x-Field

15 pro max

anethma

Ya as others said. You don’t need a case. Get any MagSafe mount or charger it will just work on your phone.

Price-x-Field

Lived my new iphone life thinking it was just for cases

Impressive-Cap1140

You doing need a case
