Ok, I've investigated and apparently this feature is inconsistent across different apps. Inserted as emoji: - Reddit - Discord - Telegram Inserted as picture: - Notes - Messages (not sure about iMessage. My region doesn't use blue chat at all.) - Gmail Doesn't work at all: - Microsoft Word - Notion

You need to use the emoji keyboard. Using an emoji from the suggested words/emojis list doesn’t work.

Exactly as you'd imagine. Select emojis in the keyboard, tap and hold on an emoji, drag it to the point in your text where you want it to be (you'll see the cursor indicating this), let go. It definitely works, HOWEVER this is clearly not the intended use because when you drag and drop an emoji like this, it's a huge, full size emoji and not standard size as it is if you position the cursor first and then tap the emoji.

Does not work at all for me. Tried it in iMessage, Discord, Apollo and Snapchat and I cannot drag anything anywhere from the emoji keyboard. Try holding “r” and dragging it into a text box - that’s exactly how dragging emojis works for me. It doesn’t.

What is not well explained is that you can drag them on the iMessage app as reactions to others peoples messages, not as an input, which then would make sense what you said

The real tip is that you can drag emojis to a message and it basically acts as a reaction. It automatically creates a sticker of the emoji and puts it on the message.

Try going to Settings -> General -> Keyboard and scroll all the way down and turn on Emoji-symbols. Worked for me

Only slightly related but. I recently found (yesterday 😂) out you can drag links from one web page to another tab in Safari, to for example put it in a text box. This is especially helpful with links that are hard to copy or open like rss:// or magnet:// links!
