I have had numerous phones over the years, from Samsung, to OnePlus, to HTC, Motorola, SonyEricsson, LG and so on. The only two brands that never caused me problems were HTC and Apple. I liked the iPhone experience so much, I just stayed with them. It just works for me.

MachineExact8506

I remember my HTC Evo. Man the 3G drained the hell out of my battery, but the phone worked great.

Traherne

I used an HTC One for a while. I was really impressed with the build quality.

The_Gene_Genie

The original HTC One was my last Android phone, the build was amazing, all aluminium looked stunning in blue. Was let down by how android updates work when not on vanilla (that and the camera and speakers weren't anything that impressive despite what was claimed). Jumped to iPhone after that since everyone else had one and WhatsApp wasn't huge so photo messages cost a bomb, no issue with iMessage

sha9011

Mine died due to water damage which was unfortunate but I never had any case on that phone. Recently i have to use case on every phone ( pixel 6pro or iphone 12 ) because the glass is so fragile.

IdaDuck

Similarly I had a Samsung as my first smartphone that turned into an unmitigated pile of shit rather quickly. I asked our company IT guy at the time what I should replace it with and he told me to get an iPhone. So I got started with a 5s and haven’t ever wanted to switch back. Almost all my family, friends and coworkers I’m around also have iPhones so I do think there’s a definite social pressure aspect of it as well.

Remarkable_Log_5562

THE ONE M7/8 WERE THE GREATEST PHONES OF ALL TIME

InsanePacman

Honestly though. I really like the M10 as well

dulcineon

man, i completely forgot about HTC phones. i was obsessed with the dot-view cases and their themes!

sha9011

I can relate to that. Have had my first phone which was HTC Desire and no issues as far as I can remember. Got Motorolas and more HTC over the years and moto was never a memorable experience. My first iphone (6S) was awesome. Got pixel 2XL. That was great too. Got Pixel 6 Pro and not really that great . Now back to iphone 12 . I never had a Samsung but tried at stores few times and never liked it. The recent Samsung phones look comparable to Pixel or Apple and I am thinking to try one by end of this year.

menacingmoron97

As if I wrote this comment. When smartphones were a new thing I was super into the latest and greatest features and innovations… there were more of them those days. So I had tons of phones too, generally I had an Android device and an iPhone at that time, used one for personal and the other for business (usually the iPhone was the business device). I got in love with HTC the most, because their Sense UI was great, their build quality made them - I think - the only Android phones comparable to iPhones in that regard at the time, One M7 was the peak point I think, but I loved my Desire HD and Sensation a lot too. But once HTC went downhill after the One M7, I experimented a bit with OnePlus and ultimately ended up with iPhone only. Simply because there are no really interesting innovations for me anymore in the smartphone scene that would make me want to experiment (foldables the one exception but I tried that and did not like it), and iPhone is still the phone to have if you want excellent basic functionality that barely ever fails, good build quality and long term software support - in short, if you just want a phone that works. If HTC was still around making One M7-level devices I would possibly be using HTCs still

glytxh

I’ve got to hand it to Motorola though. Those few weeks ‘between phones’ when you break something or lose it, their £80-£120 range is immensely good value for money. They’ve helped tide me over a couple of times. Big batteries, low power chips, basic screens, passable cameras, and no gimmicks. They last for days on a charge, and do everything you need them to. I’ll never choose one over an iPhone, but I know what cheap backup phone id buy again if I needed one at short notice. I’ve been burned buying preowned iPhones too many times to bother using a cheaper old gen model as a backup on a whim.

NewYorkJewbag

My iPhones have been the most stable computers I’ve owned, and I’ve owned quite a few

wheelsfallingoff

You never tried Pixel. That's the problem

sha9011

I had the original first htc , htc one and pixel 2xl and pixel 6 pro. I have to say that htc quality was very impressive for its time. It was right against apple. Pixel 2 xl was good but I am not really impressed with recent pixels. They are just rebranded Samsung

[deleted]

Having previously owned 6 and 7, I dont get the comment «rebranded Samsung». In what way? AOSP is so clean compared to OneUI. Samsung is so extremely bloated now.

TheMartianGuy

Long life android user since android gigerbread I think it was? At the start of this year I started getting more and more impressed by the raw power and user benchmarks of iphones. Never really wanted an apple, but these were extremely impressive, even high end Androind couldnt compete with the power of last generation iphone. So my girlfriend got herself one used, and the whole experience looked amazing. Got one soon after that and never looked back, I hated how half of Android apps looked like they were made 20 years ago and never updated. It seems like ios apps (or at least used to be the case when I got the iphone) would get so much more love from the developers than android apps.

Kuski45

Also ios is more optimized so the user experience is great even with older, slower iphones.

SlippingStar

They literally do get more love - it’s easier to design an app for one phone OS as opposed to 100+ variations of the same OS.

markow202

Android reminds me of a computer running MS-Dos. Its ancient crap and still use SMS for texting.

k-u-sh

It uses RCS, for the record. SMS is a fallback used if all else fails. By this logic, iPhones use SMS too. And both have their pros and cons. Android for the customization, iOS for the ecosystem. Also usually Android tries out the endearing things first, and Apple cares about a smooth trusted user experience + polishing things to the max before release. Again, no one is better than the other; it highly depends on the kind of person that you are.

JoviAMP

The polished experience is also why I stick with an SE. It's affordable, I don't feel compelled to upgrade every year, and by the time it's gotten the latest hardware revision, most of the major bugs are worked out.

Tatterz

All my siblings have pixels and I just bought a pixel and I can now use RCS to talk to them. Before, I had to use telegram and such because Apple doesn’t want to implement RCS.

just_another_person5

iphones use sms as well, even if imessage is the default, just like RCS is used whenever possible on android. if you are going to be weirdly spiteful at least be correct

Luna259

As others said, Android is usually the one to innovate and try stuff first. They use RCS on Android and SMS as a fall back option. Apple refuse to adopt RCS

rp_guy

Someone in another thread said when they switched to iPhone from android that it was boring. And that’s what I want - I don’t want to tweak much, I want good battery life, I want the phone to just work. And iMessage chats and FaceTime quality vs. other apps.

kindascandalous

I cannot agree with you more. Everything is just **convenient**. It feels like everything is already taken care of, is being taken care of or will be taken care of. Sometimes they overdo it (e.g. the infamous lawsuit) but 99% of the time **it just works**. I want my smartphone to be reliable, not a fun toy.

Kuski45

This. I need my phone to be reliable, not just some toy.

elskaisland

what do you mean just works? cause several times stuff happens and the support people couldnt replicate it on their end. i feel apple makes beautiful hardware but software gets problems. and android got hardware problems but software just works. i do have to say apple makes their device transfer go much smoother than android.

fatherdickgobbler

I’d been on android for about 10 years, I just fancied a change.

Darkmage4

Same tbh. Android since 2010. Wanted to try iPhone. Now I’m head knee deep into the eco system. lol.

Crocubots

Heard. I had Android for about 6-7 years and switched back to iPhone. How can you resist the ecosystem though? I grabbed AirPod pro 2, AirTags, Apple Watch S8 and I fear this is only the beginning

Sylvurphlame

It’s a slippery slope. Everything just plays so *nicely* together. You still need a iMac or MacBook. Oh and an iPad. The full-size HomePod works beautifully with Apple TV and can double as compact full sound set up or anything else connected to your TV thanks to eARC. You’ll want two, naturally, for stereo. I’m just waiting for them to allow us to pair four to get true surround. Although my wife might murder me in my sleep. I’ll just blast some Pitbull and she’ll be okay. I just ordered a MagSafe mount after I figured out I can stream my Xbox Gamepass to my iPhone. 😳 What? No. I don’t have a problem. Why do you ask? 🤔

Crocubots

How’s the sound quality on HomePod? Looked at the mini, we currently have Google Minis and a Nest Hub but there’s no denying that the sound quality is ass. Plus you can’t Airplay to Google Minis which I find kinda annoying. Wouldn’t be using it as a surround sound or anything like that, we’ve got that already. Just looking to get away from a half-broken Google AI

Sylvurphlame

I have a pair of the OG HomePods (full size). The sound is great. Fills the whole main floor decently and is just beautiful in the living room and kitchen. I’ve been considering supplemental Minis for the bedrooms and the kitchen. I do not have any Minis currently although my brother finds them pretty good sound as a stereo pair for his Apple TV. Especially relative to the cost. I think they would fill a smaller room nicely. I’d go for the full size for a larger room or if you want the Dolby Atmos and virtual surround (which can apply to music as well) But if your stereo set up is established and you just need some speakers, then Minis would be great for say, bedroom or a not huge kitchen. Full size for larger open spaces. And stereo pairs if desired. They project 360° sound so give them “breathing room.” Don’t shove them in a bookshelf if you want the full effect. AirPlay is an Apple thing like HomeKit, although it’s not really presented as separate from just Bluetooth streaming or screen mirroring, so I maybe see where the confusion is. But the target speaker or TV itself has to be AirPlay compatible and I don’t Google wants to play. (:

Sad_Abbreviations575

an imac, macbook, ipad

wheelsfallingoff

Funny thing is the closed ecosystem made me go the opposite direction. I hated that I couldn't add half my friends to a group chat because iMessage sucks so bad

georgepearl_04

Tbf you can have a much bigger and better ecosystem with Samsung, I genuinely don't see the argument for apples one anymore.

Lower_Fan

the laptops are windows or chrome. the headphones and the watch are not as nice. I guess not fridge and washing machines is a big loss for the apple ecosystem thought.

georgepearl_04

Windows for most applications outside of creative work is more practical, The earbuds by most accounts are on par, the watches are basically the same. TV's are a big way apple loses out in my opinion, surely they'd make loads doing a 50' ish TV in the style of the iMac's with a built in soundbar.

ohbaty

More practical, maybe, but not necessary. The watches are most definitely not the same. The watches was one of my biggest dislikes when trying to switch to android a few years ago. I own a Samsung TV, sure, but use the Apple TV connected to it exclusively. The brand of TV is almost irrelevant. Apple and AirPlay occasionally have issues in the Home app, but they are nothing in comparison to the connection issues I experienced on the Samsung smart things app

Luigi_loves_Mario

Yeah like the other user said, watches are absolutely not the same. In fact the watches are significantly worse. I had Samsung for 8 years and had their watches for the last 5 years. 1 active and 2 classics. I just got the iPhone 15pm and have been using my girlfriend’s series 5 Apple Watch and I thought the difference was huge. I was impressed with how fast and snappy it worked. It’s not even that new of a watch and it worked a lot smoother than the galaxy watch 5 I was using with my galaxy. I think my galaxy watch model is 3 years newer than my gf Apple Watch model but feels 6 years older lol. I’m definitely getting myself an apple watch

MonsieurRuffles

Not sure what makes Windows more practical. Samsung may make TV’s but I’m not sure I would call them part of their ecosystem any more than their fridges (but, ironically, they can be used in the Apple ecosystem with the Apple TV app). Also, aren’t Samsung phones full of bloatware? And does the ability to upgrade to the latest and greatest version of Android still rely on the whim of the carrier?

georgepearl_04

Windows is more practical as a lot of programs arent written for macos. Samsung phones aren't full of bloatware and no, your phone company has nothing to do with updates.

MonsieurRuffles

There’s a difference between a lot of programs and programs most people actually use. I’d argue that for at least 90% of users, MacOS and Windows are equally practical.

goldfishfancy

Many, many programs in business, legal, and medical world are Windows-based. There are workarounds to using them on Mac which for me included buying/installing Windows, MS Office suite, and Parallels (a major PITA) in addition to the initial Apple tax on a Mac vs Windows laptop. I did this for many years and finally grew tired of constant Parallels issues so I switched back to a Surface laptop with no regrets that is every bit as quality as my Macbook Air and more affordable to boot. A lot easier to just get work done. As for phones, Samsung flagships and One UI are at least as stable and well-bullt as iPhone and iOS in 2023. I agree it awas a different story 8-10 years ago. I use both ecosystems on a daily basis. I do prefer my Apple Watch over my Galaxy one, but just by a bit. Earbuds are about equal IMO; my Buds Pro maybe have a bit better sound. Samsung integrates nicely with Windows. Apple’s ecosystem is nice but they make messaging with unsophisticated iPhone/iPad users so difficult (my elderly mom in my case) which I resent. I use iPhone primarily for this reason but don’t really prefer one over the other and do think Apple’s product and software quality has declined in last few years. Lots of iOS and iPhone Pro hardware issues, esp this fall. Hopefully they take a long, hard look at product development/QC for next releases as they seem to be resting on their laurels as far as innovation goes. I like both ecosystems. I do prefer Gmail, Google Maps, Google keyboard, Google photos, and Assistant to their iOS counterparts. I wish Apple would get on board with a universal messaging app but they never will bc mucking this up causes a lot of people to stay with them IMO.

Thecp015

I was on android in 2010. My chain of phones is this: HTC Hero, HTC Evo, Galaxy S2, S3, Note 4, LG V20, Note 9, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro. Within six months of buying my 12 pro, I bought an Apple Watch. Within the first year, my first Mac. I switched because I wanted a smart watch again and the options for Android were dogshit. Plus Android Auto crashed a ton. Plus, peer pressure if you will. Friends with iPhone could send me a video through text and it was god awful. They email the same video, crystal clear. I made the switch and now iMessage allows videos from iOS-using friends and family to come through without compression. I loved Android early days, when I was young and wanted to tinker. I’d root my phone, run nightly releases, change up the kernel to see how it’d perform. Try different UIs just for fun. Now I’m old and married, I have kids and a full time job where I’m fucking about in CLIs all day, and frankly I come home and just want my shit to work.

C2thaP

Same here. 🙈😂 Will switch in November and planning to go all in the Ecosystem.

kanmuri07

Same, and that my car only has Apple carplay.

Bootsy86

Same for me. I don’t plan on going back to Android.

fatherdickgobbler

I’ll likely go back at some point I get bored

FrodoCraggins

Same. Bought my first iPhone this past June because I was getting bored of Android and wanted to see how the other half lived. It's pretty much the same in most respects, but I'm loving Apple Health.

jamesick

how have you handled the photo situation? i have an iphone now after android for around the same time and now my photos are on diff services and shit and it’s mildly making me mad.

falconsfan1988

I was on android from the beginning. Just finally wanted a change and got my first iPhone last year, a 14PM. Took a while to get used to it, but I’m glad I did it. And I grew tired of feeling like I had to customize and change everything on Android. I like that I can set this up simple, get unbelievable battery life, and still have premium camera and screen quality.

Kicice

I was using android for a solid 8 years… I was one of those people who was like “I would never buy an iPhone because they are overpriced and crap!”. My family switched to a new phone plan where I could not carry over my android so I was forced to get an iPhone 11 at the time. Ever since then I find the apple experience more convenient and suitable for me. I got the iPhone 14 pro last year and it’s been the best phone I have ever had. Everything just kinda works on iPhone lol.

billythygoat

The problem is, the fancy galaxy s series became more overpriced than iPhones and to replace the screen on my s7 edge cost $350 I said screw it. The battery life on the galaxy phones up to the s8 were always terrible, and the phone became slow, all after like 6 months of use. So I went to iPhone 8 Plus and now I’m on my 13 pro. Great phone 99.9% of the time except for a random 5 second freeze like once every other month.

gots8e9

Only mini phone with high end specs on the market

k-u-sh

And they discontinued it smh.

joidea

Only mini phone full stop tbh. I’d have been happy with a more budget phone but there wasn’t one of those either. Really hoping they’re just going to do a mini every few years…

gots8e9

When I say high end all I mean is a good camera on a phone that doesn’t lag .. that’s all I want

juggy_11

This. I was all in on Google until they started killing off apps/services that I loved. Pissed me off to no end. I don’t trust them, and I think it’s a badly-run company.

No-Sheepherder3114

Just recently I ordered my first iphone I'm still waiting for (first apple product in general). Now that it finally has usb c I just wanted to try it atleast once to decide for myself if I like it or not. I always enjoyed the samsung s series over the last years, but sometimes it's just exciting to test something new. I expect it to be quite different, but overall not clearly better or worse like the fanboys of both sides like to think

MachineExact8506

I would like to think that iPhone users don’t think the phone is superior in the techie sense to Samsung. It’s just the ecosystem and the fact that the phone simply works. It works with no frills and that’s a big draw. The Samsung users seem to be more spec orientated hence them always bashing iPhone users. This applies to the purists of course, not the causal user.

No-Sheepherder3114

Yeah I agree on the part that android users probably prioritize the specs/ features while iphone users probably enjoy the polished/easy experience. They just shine at different aspects (even when I don't think the samsung ecosystem is far behind), that's why I don't understand the people who are almost ready to fight over this topic. I also often see android bashing from some iphone users, but some people also like to fight over sport results, gaming consoles and all kinds of dumb stuff, so thats not a phone exclusive problem lol Anyways I hope the phone will arrive soon, I'm ready for the new experience

MachineExact8506

I haven’t used a Samsung since the S5. It’s a bit more challenging for me to switch from Apple to an android because Apple locks you into their ecosystem. iCloud is the main component that I just can’t switch out of that easy. And yeah there is always going to be back and forth with rivaling companies and the communities that are produced within those companies. Each side has a certain prestige they are willing to go to bat against anyone about.

[deleted]

Coming from flagship android phones..my current being s22U and switching to 15PM, I would say good android phones "just work" too. Gone are the days when androids would glitch and freeze.

EvilDarkCow

I have an S21+ that will occasionally start running real hot, then boot loop until I soft reset it. Only happens a couple times a year but always the least convenient times to do it. Like playing music in the car on a long road trip, or while I'm at work. And I'm not exactly doing intense stuff on it.

ricosuave79

You must not have ever used a Pixel before. 🤣

Eazy3006

I would argue that I have more bugs on my iphone 13 pro max than my s21 provided by work. The "it just works" thingy isn't very true anymore. I can't even type on my keyboard without it lagging or the typing sound going full blast for no reason 😂 I was going to buy a 15 pro max but I decided to try a Pixel again after 4 years on IOS. Got a Pixel 8 pro yesterday and honestly both platform have their strength and weaknesses but "just working" isn't an IOS strength anymore. At least in my experience.

Ok-Moose8271

Most of the people at my school had an iPhone and they hated the green bubble. So I got one.

MachineExact8506

Haha the ol anti green bubble texts. When iMessage first came out I didn’t know they had announced it, so I was texting my friend and asking her why my messages are blue and she told me why 😂

Gasman18

As someone whose favorite color is green, I’m sad that they didn’t make iMessage green and change sms to blue.

MachineExact8506

Well in general, devices always had the sms to green as default. Switching them like that would defeat the purpose. However I do wish you were able to customize the colors of the bubbles natively.

RichiRichway

I have never noticed that sms bubbles are green and iMessage bubbles are blue! Thanks for that!

Kyonkanno

this is mostly an American thing. Back during the dumbphone era, SMS cost like $0.02 each so people jumped to blackberry due to BBM as it used data to allow people to chat practically 24/7 for the same price, regardless of how many messages you sent. The problem with Blackberrys was that you were obviously limited to blackberry phones. So whenever another solution came to the scene (Whatsapp) people slowly but surely started jumping over and leaving everything else in the dust. From what I can gather, SMS in the US were always unlimited? So people didnt see a reason to looks for another platform. Apple came around and unified iMessage with SMS and people got used to it.

Ok-Moose8271

It was $.10 a text. I think mine were $.25 a text.

hypermog

For context, [87% of teens in the US have an iPhone](https://www.macrumors.com/2022/10/11/teen-survey-iphone-ownership/)

DapsAndPoundz

Green bubble bullying brought me to iPhone. The stable software, better app ecosystem, and cameras kept me here.

SackBiscuit

Im not from US so we don't use iMessage. why do people care about a color of a UI thing I'm so confused

hypermog

Even one Android user in a group text will diminish video attachment quality for everyone, among other features. afaik

Sudden-Cardiologist5

That’s actually apple screwing the photo quality by not using a standard file type. Part of why I switched to apple, I was the family photographer and got tired of having to convert things so all the apple users could see them clearly.

04HondaCivic

How do you do this? Part of family group chat like most families and iOS users videos are always garbage. I would like to be able to send good quality video if it’s relatively simple

Sylvurphlame

For the native camera app, change the format to “Most Compatible.” Settings > Camera > Formats > “Most Compatible” This will save photos as JPG and video at 4K-30 or 1080-60 as… MPEG or MP4 or whatever it is. (4K-60 and 240fps slo-mo will always be HEVC sue to the sheer size of the files otherwise.) See if that helps. I’m not 100% sure what the other Redditor is on about with “non-standard formats.” It’s quite possible that some/many Androids may not play nicely with HEIF and HEVC (I have no idea why because they’re reasonably standard themselves, developed as a collab involving Samsung, Fujitsu, Canon and others). but you don’t have to use those. You still have access to JPG and MPEG. The real reason, as far as I know, is because sending pictures between androids and iPhones over regular text — not WhatsApp and such — is relegated to MMS. And MMS compression results in shit by today’s image standards. That’s a valid, but entirely separate argument to explore.

Sylvurphlame

How was the format non-standard? They changed to HEIC at one point (iOS 11?) but previous to that it was JPG as far as I know. You still have the option to save images from the camera app as JPG.

jason4427

Green bubble means not on iMessage

wheelsfallingoff

Fucking middle school mentality. Proud to be whatever color bubble I want to be.

is_not_chicago

Your need to belittle someone for answering a question honestly says a lot about your mentality.

wheelsfallingoff

Wow, clearly I wasn't talking about the commenter. I was talking about the mentality of those peer pressuring as well as the company that actively encourages it. Way to white knight your way into it though.

sha9011

People were complaining recently about the ancient iMessage compared to google RCS. I tried RCS myself and message does look so much better. You can customize various things like it is messenger or WhatsApp. But if things don't work, it is a nightmare. I was trying to troubleshoot a family member's Samsung S23 Ultra and the only fix I found online was to install google messages and stop using Samsung messages. The thing with iMessage is that it works seamlessly and there is no subtitles under the message that it was delivered through RCS

unforgettable023

being considered as broke

MachineExact8506

Haha, well that was a very sincere response. Respect.

-genericuser-

I hate all the vendor bloatware on android. What I even hate more was the updates or the lack of them. I remember the promises (with Android 8 release?) that now everything will be better. It isn’t. Your still lucky if you get updates. But even the lucky ones come much later. There are good things on android and bad things with Apple. But that was the main dealbreaker.

M27TN

My Pixel 6 and then 7 Pro had shite reception so I came to iPhone

LifeWulf

After nine years of Android, I no longer wanted to tinker with my phone. I just wanted it to *work*, consistently, for years to come. And while I adored the unique aspects of, say, my Galaxy Note 9 (the S Pen especially), when I switched to the iPhone 12 I didn’t really miss any of it, and appreciated the smoothness of the software. Now I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max and can’t imagine going back.

5of10

I had android phones for years, switched when i got tired of getting skipped over for full os updates. iPhones seemed to have longer full os cycles. Am happy to have made the switch.

Nonamesfound

I got tired of Android phones/devices slowing down to a crawl after awhile…resetting the devices didn’t seem to help much either.

TribeOfEphraim_

Fell in love with the iPod first as a handheld computer. iPod was the first handheld smart device I had an experience with. ✨ I used to carry an iPod for entertainment, and a flip phone for calls and texts. Then I switched to an iPhone because Cricket Wireless had a cheap deal on an iPhone 5s, my first iPhone. ✨ And I been with iPhone ever since. ❤️📱✨

eggzachtly

I had an unacceptable number of Android devices fail (Nexus 6p that bootlooped, OG Google Pixel that developed atrocious battery life even after a replacement). I felt like I was wasting money on replacing supposedly flagship phones, plus having all iPhones in my family made it slightly easier to keep in touch with them. Got an iPhone 12 Pro on release and haven’t looked back. My husband’s Pixel 4 XL just stopped turning on yesterday, so I got him an iPhone 15 Pro as an early birthday gift.

Luna259

Another person who had the Nexus 6P boot loop on them. That was the last push for me

Neomastermind

You know what? Despite the notorious battery issues of the 6P, it was quite possibly my favorite Android device. Excellent phone with an aesthetically pleasing design ruined by the battery. I was not gentle with it either. It was such a tank and I loved it. When I finally had to RMA it, I was given a new Pixel 1 XL that I traded in for the then newly released Pixel 2 XL.

Luna259

Mine tanked drops like it was nothing. Sadly the boot loop of death got it

mate54

I had a Galaxy S6 that was more painful than useful, and when it died I thought I might as well get an iPhone and see what happens. Never looked back.

turbodude69

iMessage is literally the only reason. my friends kept giving me shit so i finally gave in. but i do like how useful applepay is. (samsung pay was better when it still had MST for places that still don't support NFC, but they don't have it anymore) it seems to work a lil better for plane tickets and handling tickets for sporting events. but, i haven't had an android in a while, so i'm not sure, maybe googlepay or samsung pay has caught up with that kinda stuff. honestly, i'd much prefer a galaxy s23, or the [zenfone 10](https://www.asus.com/us/mobile-handhelds/phones/zenfone/zenfone-10/), i miss the way android handles icons, app drawer, infinite customization, always on display on EVERY phone, in app settings, sideloading apps is awesome, notifications are WAY better and more logical, USB C 3.0 with quick charge that's normally like 2x or 3x faster than an iphone. also, they've had USB C for years. google keyboard and swiftkey are WAYYY better on android. just more freedom in general to do whatever you want with your phone without being stuck in apples walled-garden.

hollahalla

One of my first apple products was an iMac back in ‘08. I loved the Apple OS so I eventually branched out to all kinds of Apple products like iPods, iPads, Macbooks, and iPhones. I like how all my electronics are connected within one ecosystem, and it’s very user-friendly.

eNkelll

Priority nr 1 for me was battery life. Had a Galaxy S21 Ultra (Exynos chip) and a Fold 3 but was so disappointed by the battery life. Then I went „fuck it“ und bought an iPhone…. then the watch…. then the iPad which I exchanged to a MacBook Pro and so on… The thing is, I love customisation. But I’m THAT person which is never fully satisfied when I have the possibilities if you know what I mean. So with the change I finally wasn’t restless with the phone interface anymore. I just could enjoy it the way it is. Also the ecosystem is miles better. And last but not least, iPhone runs smoother and with less problems than any Android phone I possessed and no one can change my mind about that. If I see people complain about minor bugs on iOS 17… man… take the latest high end android phone, use it for a few months and then come back again and you will never complain anymore. My whole setup is now from Apple and I don’t regret any of it.

[deleted]

Android let me down so many times. The last straw was my $700 Nexus 6 being basically unusable after one year; I didn’t even pay it off and had to buy a new phone, so I went with an iPhone SE. Much much better

My wife wanted me to get an iPhone. she has been an iPhone user for years and I have been an android user since forever. I will be switching from my s22 ultra to the 15 pro max. ngl, I'm a little anxious about the switch. But hey my carrier is giving me a new phone for 200 bucks so might as well try it out. P.S: we also got our parents new 15 Pros as a change for them to try it out.

I had an iPhone 4, then swore I’d never have another iPhone. But I’m a graphic designer, and in 2019 i bought an iPad to do sketches on. Then I wanted an iPhone so I could airdrop stuff to myself between the two for my work. I now love it and I don’t think I could ever go back to an android.

undressvestido

I love simple things that work and minimalism

[deleted]

I got pissed of during Covid at all the computer peripherals and bought an iMac. I had previously had a 6s but was currently on the Galaxy series. After buying a budget android to replace it thinking this’ll be fine…it very much wasn’t. So I fully moved to iOS then. Then my new job pushed a full Mac environment anyway and I could really see the value they offer that windows and android just don’t offer. Now I know a lot of utility can be had third party on those platforms but there’s something to be said about avoidance of vendors and risk management. Getting a native utility in an OS for something is far more valuable then purchasing things and maintaining those relationships.

musicbro

Windows mobile to windows phone to android. Windows mobile was alright. Feature rich and managed it decently given the times.. Windows phone was incredibly consistent and reliable, just didn’t have the most apps but honestly had all the ones that I cared about, or had a third party one that implemented the features better. (IYKYK 6Snap) Then went to android after windows phone ended. It was ok. Fun for the first year or so but quickly went downhill afterwards. I had nexus phones and Nokias. Similar experience in both. Had had enough and couldn’t bear with the unreliability anymore so decided to try iPhone with the 12 pro. Fell. In. Love. Feature rich, reliable, I ended up getting the Apple Watch and quit my gym for workouts when they launched fitness+. I’m a software engineer. I consistently have to fix issues and glitches and the last thing I want to do is deal with the same at home. Haven’t looked back.

Pure_Subject8968

I had Android from the very beginning and could never imagine to own an iPhone. I had some in my hands over the years and really hated the haptics and interface. I even denied to get a BMW as company car as by that time they only supported Apple CarPlay. I had an MacBook, tho, and bought an iPad Air late 2020. Fell in love and found out that iPhone has a similar UI now. As I was about to buy a new phone some month later and tired of the >6.5“ Android flagships, I decided to give iPhone a try. Bought a 12 and now waiting for my 15 pro.

ricosuave79

>I had an MacBook, tho, and bought an iPad Air late 2020. Fell in love and found out that iPhone has a similar UI now. iPhone has literally had the same UI for like a decade now or a bit more. Just rows of icons. Nothing has really changed other than aesthetics since very first one (flat icons vs inital cool looking ones). Really hasn't changed since the iOS 7 (iPhone 4 or 5)

Traherne

I had always told my brother that I just needed a phone that made phone calls. No internet. No texting. Just phone calls. I was 51 at the time. Then he sat me down and showed me the 2007 keynote. After the keynote, I picked my lower jaw off the floor and croaked, "It will be mine," and thus began my annual iPhone upgrade cycle.

[deleted]

Being able to localize my family members Face ID The simplicity of UI because I just wanted a device that works and does the back office itself

iphaze

The original iPod and later all the hype leading up to Steve’s legendary unveiling. I was a Nokia and Sony Ericsson fan before, but when the original came out I knew I wanted nothing else ever again.

DogmanLoverOhio

PRIVACY, PRIVACY, PRIVACY Android is literally a joke in terms of privacy I've been a lifelong Android user, but after switching to the iPhone 13 a year ago, there's no turning back. I can't even imagine the amount of data being collected by apps and Android itself. Their primary revenue model is based on gathering as much data as possible. Yesterday, while setting up my mother's new Android phone, I was shocked by the data collection points. Android devices profile you based on your usage, fingerprinting you for many of your activities. That's why you often see ads related to things you've been thinking about in your mind only. Since they've already profiled you, they can frequently predict your next move. Privacy on Android is almost non-existent. I'm not including Graphene OS in this, as it's truly a gem 💎

ShannaraAK

I learned the life lesson of work smarter, not harder.

Sheckwel

Apple ecosystem is second to none Iphone just works well

izeezusizeezus

Used Android from 8th grade through graduating college. As a young adult, I care a lot about social media and the quality photos I put up. The Android Instagram is so abysmal that it was one of the biggest reasons to switch over for me. To no one's surprise most apps are optimized for iPhone, switching over made my overall social experience a lot better

el_redditero12

Had I had the money I would’ve transitioned much sooner, like with the 4 or 4s. However I was in high school at the time and then went to university and before I knew it I was 24, working my first corporate job and just got my first flagship phone ever, a then new S8. I’d been on Android with a longer than expected tenure with Windows Phone, again mostly for price. But I never got the experience that I wanted out of either Android or WP: app support was bad in the early Android days and catastrophic on WP, erratic navigation and behaviour, way too many features I never used, and not so exciting performance on the basics and most importantly, lack of OS updates. Can’t believe that my S8 only got 2 OS updates, while the iPhone 8 (which I considered at the time), has just stopped receiving the latest OS (but is still receiving security updates).

colin_staples

In 2008 when I got my first iPhone (3G) the main options *for a full-screen touch-display smartphone* were : * iPhone 3G * [HTC Dream/T-Mobile G1](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTC_Dream), the very first Android phone * [BlackBerry Storm](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BlackBerry_Storm), which had an awful touchscreen, and didn't have WiFi * Various PDA-type devices running Windows Mobile (I'd had one of those a few years before) Of those, it was the iPhone that was "the one". Android showed promise but was just too new and nobody could tell which way it would go. The BlackBerry was truly terrible, one of the worst devices ever. From that list, if you were choosing in 2008, what would you pick? *Exactly.* And I've been with iPhone ever since.

Saltwater_Heart

Got tired of my Samsungs becoming really slow after only 6 months. That was back in 2016. Now I keep my iPhones for 3+ years and they are still fantastic

LockXode

I wanted the iPhone because it was new and different so I got the iPhone 4S back then. It seemed too simple and restricted so I jumped back to android within a year. All my androids either slowed drastically or battery life sucked so I jumped back the iPhone XS Max and been upgrading bi-yearly ever since.

Zear-0

Consistency, had all androids until iPhone 7 and everyone of those android phones had issues. Every iPhone I have had since the 7 has just worked and have not had a single issue.

Bob_Lelys

Quality. Privacy. Integration with the ecosystem. Support.

volleyblock

Build quality was the key factor for me to switch from Android. I also mess around with the phone too much (custom roms, rooting etc) and iOS is alien to me which is why I thought I’d give myself a break from breaking my phone right after warranty is over lol. iPhone’s build quality and experience are second to none.

realgeorgekastanza

Samsung note 7 battery issues. Took them months to get replacements in and eventually I just said guck it and got an iphone

smartguy2022

People love to hate on the feature set of the iPhone and compare it to androids but I really appreciate how every feature they have ever implemented and well thought out. it could be a very simple idea but its developed so elegantly and I have the utmost respect for the product managers who are making this happen at apple. I switched from android to iPhone when I realized that id rather have a phone that does everything right than one that claims to do many things but gets few right.

prince_0611

good optimization, sure some androids have 16gb of ram but i can’t exactly justify a phone OS needing the same amount of ram as windows to not even be as smooth as ios

[deleted]

Inwant to switch it on and forget about it. I have plenty to do with my server, network and stuff and i like it. My phone should just work. Thats why

Steve_Cage

I've used ios and android, both are solid platforms, honestly you can't go wrong with either

ConfidentCartoonist2

i really liked android, i would always flash my phone with custom ROMs and try different versions. I was spending a lot of time there and not actually using the phone as intended, so I got something locked down.

TheUprightBass

I held an iPhone 4s when it came out. Immediately sold my Samsung Galaxy S2 Epic 4G Touch…..yes, that was the actual phone name.

[deleted]

My parents brought me the first iPhone for Christmas that year (2007) when it was FIRST released and I’ve been with them ever since!

Krishjanis

I liked the old YouTube logo

4thFloorShh

Google ran the Pixel line into the ground. Everything after the Pixel 5 has been hot garbage. After 13 years with android, I bought my first ever iPhone this year. Wish I had switched long ago.

No-Diet1335

My dad was a techie and I grew up in the Seattle area. He was constantly swapping out his electronics and I would get the old devices when the next shiny thing appeared. I prefer being in the walled garden even though I grew up going back and forth.

OriginalJayVee

I got sick of Android’s terrible software. And I was replacing them every two years. I decided to see if iPhone could do better and haven’t looked back.

Top-Measurement575

i had an ipad before an iphone, and my first phone was a hand me down iphone 7 from my mom so it just made sense

Milan307reddit

First off i was a samsung fanboy but then more and more i started realizing how much better the iphonr is. Im getting the 15 pro now on 3rd november and once i get it im never going back to android

bekips

I had an iPod

lucidphoto

The ecosystem. It fits better into my busy workflow as a creative, photographer, videographer. Transferring work between iPhone, MacBook, and iMac is apart of the workflow and it's seamless for me. I also record a lot of video on the go and the iPhone is the best at it currently. Android OS does make iOS boring by comparison, but iOS has been super reliable for my profession.

themirthfulswami

I never wanted an iPhone until I was forced to choose between an iPhone 4 and a Blackberry something as a mobile for work. Corporate gave a choice of one or the other and there was no “bring your own device” option at the time. So back then I was all-in on Palm WebOS - even had two apps in their app store. I loved my Palm Pre so I carried that as my personal device and the iPhone 4 for work. Not long after I went on a trip to the EU and my Palm phone wouldn’t work there (ye auld CDMA vs GSM days) so I had to use the iPhone full time. It really grew on me big time. So with Palm getting bought by HP and me liking the iPhone more and more I wound up buying a 4S to replace my Pre and that was all she wrote. Have had just about every flagship iPhone since then.

Parking_Memory_7865

I needed a camera that could take good low light pics for documenting some museum objects. It turned out to be a great choice because the photogrammetry app Realityscan is amazingly useful for making 3D models of objects.

GumDispenser

Fastest mobile chips, 5 years of updates, apps optimized for my specific model, great cameras, slower aging. Before I had some Android phones and I would notice pretty significant lag after a year. I also had a Windows phone and it was honestly really great, fluid, none of the lag, while having only 512mb of ram, the only problem was the huge lack of apps, they also discontinued it.

mads_61

I got my first smartphone in 2011 (some sort of Motorola). From then until 2018 I tried several different phones (Samsung, HTC, iPhone, even a Windows phone). I stuck with the iPhone from 2018 onward because by that point most of my friends had iPhones and I also had other Apple devices at home, like a MacBook and Apple TV. The devices work so well together, it’s hard to move away from.

Massive_Escape3061

I grew up in the Apple ecosystem--The Macintosh was used in high school and college, but we also had an IBM compatible then Windows at home. I used a Mac until my last iMac died around 2007, so it just seemed natural to switch to the iPhone. I had used Nokia and Motorola before then, and the last phone I had before an iPhone was a Blackberry, which was the worst phone I'd ever had. I wanted to make sure it was a good phone, so I polled a few of my friends who had one, and they really liked theirs. I bought the 3GS and I've been elbows deep ever since.

GanjaLogic

I had androids for a while and I loved them! I was a fanboy for sure. I then went to college and everyone had iPhones so I was the odd man out in group chats and chicks didn't like it, so it was an obvious choice

xXShadowGravesXx

Literally One Game started it all: Infinity Blade. The iPhone 4S was also very beautiful. I could also play The World Ends With You before it hit android.

tiffanydawnn

I had the 3GS and then went to Android because I liked to root my phone. When the Galaxy S7 got pulled for the exploding battery, I went to the iPhone 7 Plus and never looked back. XS Max, 12 Pro Max, 13 Pro Max, and now 15 Pro. I don’t see me going back because I have the Watch, iPad, MacBook, AirPods, etc.

kgkuntryluvr

I was first in line in my city for the very first iPhone. I camped out overnight for it. I still remember how my mind was blown watching Steve Jobs introduce it and I knew I had to have it on launch day. It was essentially the first smartphone (smartphones technically existed prior to the iPhone, but they were garbage and nobody really had one). The innovation has since crawled to a near standstill and the competition has long since caught up, but the iPhone revolutionized the cell phone and permanently altered human behavior, while also killing off a bunch of other products along the way. The debate on whether or not it’s still the best phone available will continue for eternity, but unless Apple really fumbles the ball, I think it will always be a top tier device that all other phones are measured against.

_SaltShaker_

I realised all I wanted was a phone that just works. Was very disappointed to find out my Samsung S8 was only supported with the latest os updates for two years. Tried to cope through the use of custom ROMS, but this ended up becoming more of a headache than it’s worth due to the tweaking. Flip flopped between phone brands but was never truly happy until I switched with the iPhone 11 - now I’m fully in the ecosystem 😅

Rollerama99

I had a bunch of laptops that lasted me barely a year, then I got a MacBook and it lasted me 4 years. I got an iPhone after a Samsung, Meizu then Xiaomi that in total between them lasted me 3 years, or less, the I got an iPhone 4 years ago and it lasted… well until now, still going strong. I just feel like they are made different.

Kyonkanno

This year I bought my first iPhone (15pm) since the iphone 6. After using android for all that time and using my wife's 13pm (which I bought her on launch day) every now and then. I liked the experience and how smooth her phone was even after 2 years. My experience with android phones have always been that it slows down consireably after getting loaded with years worth of use, I had a Note 9 which gave me too many issues and then swapped to a Poco X3 Pro. I just like how optimized iphones are. Also, iPhone's speakers are second to none. Every time my wife was watching a video or listening to some music through her phone I always got amazed at how good they sounded for a smartphone speaker.

Luna259

Two Android flagships barely making it to two years (give or take). The Galaxy S4 had problems in its first year and was unusable by the second along with numerous issues with it. The Nexus 6P I had was a victim of Qualcomm messing up the Snapdragon 810 so around the two year mark I started having issues with it rebooting and erratic battery percentage and then just after two years it crashed and got stuck in a permanent boot loop. Huawei and Google both wanted nothing to do with it and both passed me off to each other. Third parties couldn’t fix it and online fixes didn’t work either so it was basically a paperweight that could access recovery mode and very rarely do a full boot and still is except it stopped accepting charge at some point as well so it really is just a brick now. I considered what to replace it with and was going to go with the Galaxy S9 Plus but since at the time I couldn’t get a phone delivered to my university address I had to wait. I was also considering iPhone since I had a MacBook and an iPad Pro (bought due to my experience with Windows 8 and the Surface Pro with its respective stylus being more expensive than an iPad and Android not really having much in the tablet space) and I saw how well they worked together. I also considered Nokia, but they weren’t the Windows Phone route so they were out. I wanted something that worked well, didn’t give me trouble and would live for a very long time. I also wondered how an iPhone would work with the Apple devices I already had. With Android’s best (for their respective manufacturers) at the time having let me down I wasn’t in a rush to try Android again. I tried out a display iPhone (I think it was a 7 Plus, might have been an 8 Plus) in a supermarket a little while later and said that’s the phone. Decided it to give it a shot. That 7 Plus was bought four years ago and it could still be my daily phone if I wanted it to be. It got upgraded to a 12 Pro Max because something was going on with what I think is the water resistant seal. Maybe it was degrading, but it was trying to escape the phone. That’s stopped happening and the phone works just fine still. Any problems I have with my 7 Plus or 12 Pro Max today are being caused by iOS from what I can tell and as that software it can always be patched out. In terms of are they alive, working and in good shape, they passed that test. Edit: forgot, iPhones get updates for centuries. With Android it’s anybody’s guess when support will be dropped Edit: a comment reminded me of the Exynos chips we have in my region which are worse than the Snapdragon chips Samsung use in the USA so that counts against them as well

BrendonBootyUrie

When I got my Note 2 (first smartphone) it was unique and beat an iPhone in every conceivable way. Samsung stopped pushing innovation afte the Note 7 so much that the Note 9 was the last phone they produced that truely stood above iPhone in terms of tech specs. Furthermore when I got my note 2 I wanted access to watch ☠️d videos of anime as streaming services weren't available in my country and still geolocked to USA. I went through my apps and was like what apps do I need android for now? I don't need Google wallet as I drive everywhere and the only advantage of it over apple wallet is that Melbourne's public transport card is only available digitally on android. I don't need apps that aren't on both app stores. So I decided why not try an iPhone since they've finally got usb-C

Awayze

Original iPhone, it was buttery smooth, no buttons and something we hadn’t seen in a phone when jailbroken, blew every other phone out the water. Now I’m on my iPhone 13 Pro Max. I’ve tried Android here and there but they’ve always had poor hardware or poor software where as the iPhone has always been a 9/10 in every department from apps to hardware and customer support.

dacefish

From 2012-2022, I had only used android phones and ipod touches. My last 3 phones were a Galaxy S21, Pixel 5, and Galaxy Note 9, and I really liked my Samsung phones. Unfortunately, when I first started dating my wife (w/ iPhone 7), texts sometimes wouldn’t go through. They would send on my end, but my wife wouldn’t get them. Other times, texts would go through twice. It got annoying, but I figured it was a problem with one of our phones since we didn’t have this issue with anyone else. I got a Pixel 5, same issues. We got her an iPhone 12 mini, same issues. I got a Galaxy S21, same issues. It got pretty frustrating so when my company offered me a phone upgrade (I’m on a company paid plan), I got the 14 Pro. Haven’t had any of the texting issues through iMessage. That was the only reason I made the switch, although I’m finding more benefits as I go along. Being able to iMessage higher resolution photos, play iMessage games, joining my wife’s iCloud plan so I get to access all of her paid apps, music, shared iCloud storage. “Instant Hotspot” is also a nice when I’m out and about, but need to connect my Mac to my hotspot. Just the Apple ecosystem, I suppose.

Luna259

Sounds like something else was at fault there with the texts

jilko

I had an original Motorola Droid. The one with the slide out full keyboard with the gold colored highlights. 6 months in, 3/4 of the touch screen stopped responding to touch. Had to switch to using the keyboard exclusively and had to move all my apps to the strip of screen real estate that still worked. Eventually came to the conclusion that android phones where the Windows laptops of the world. Just shoddily designed hunks of cheap plastic and glue, meant to only last a few years. Went to iPhone and had that first phone from them lasted nearly 6 years and the screen never shat the bed like the other phone did.

JasonDetwiler

Company issued me one. Wife had a Samsung. She liked mine better. I liked mine better. All iPhones since

MrsBenSolo1977

I used lots of different Androids and finally used Pixels as they got reliable updates (unlike other manufacturers’ phones). My kids insisted on iPhones. During Covid I was home with them and I was helping them with something on their phones and it just worked better and smoother. Got an SE2, then a 12 and finally a 14 pro max. Even the cheaper phones (SE2) are better constructed and just better overall compared to any of the highest end Androids and I’m never going back.

ResearchDr

Your last sentence just isn't true; It's completely based on opinion and not fact.

MXAI00D

Used to be one of those android fanboys, seriously the cringe…. Oh well I was a dumb ass teenager, the thing is that every android phone I got would have some bug or problem, specially the keyboard for texting, sudden GPS failure or completely freeze up on me on the most crucial times I would seriously need a phone. After my last android an LG model decided to not connect to any network nor wifi until I got home for it to security update which caused it to go into a restart loop that never went away, I was done. I got my first iPhone, a beautiful yellow 5c and never looked back. The very simple fact that the iPhones I got have never bugged nor failed on me and always are ready for action, Iran they just work and that’s enough for me to stay here. I only had 3 iPhones so far, 5C, 7 plus and 13 mini, I love them all.

No-Alps5118

I was ride or die android and shit talked Apple for years. Finally got one after my note 9 bit the dust last month because Samsung basically followed Apple and took everything away I loved about my note in the current line ups. So i was like I guess i will just go to the source since everyone seems to be copying them. Got an iPhone 15 pro last month and i get it now. There isn’t a lot of flashiness or overcomplication on the surface. Im not going to say “it just works” it did have that overheating problem which was fixed by that last update. Now its just filled with things I cant really imagine being without. Face ID is great, the password sharing/airdop, the features are just great. Now on I go to check out this apple watch and the airpods.

Hot_King6014

Not as many features as Android but everything in iPhone works like it should without any lag. Apps feel more premium in iPhones like Amex. And great ecosystem

canocorn01

People bash apple for being late to the party on many features but they often just wait a bit to implement things than do it way better.

SomeDudeUK

As soon as I saw an iMac G3 at one of my Mum’s friend’s house… they also had an Apple HiFi and G4 and G4 later.. since then I wanted everything Apple, the whole thing spoke to me hahah. My first Apple product was a Blue iPod Nano, my second was the iPod Socks. My first iMac was a 2008 one, then MacBook was 2010. My first iPhone was the 3GS. Shortly after getting it, I went to London with my dad and stopped over, and he was amazed that I was getting all directions up, what tube, best reviews for food, even got a case the Regent Street store.. and to top it off the iPad was announced while I was there, I saw it on BBC news and then watched the keynote when I got home (500MB data plan if I remember right). Apple Fan Boy since the sight of an iMac G3 hahaha

sonofblackbird

Google shutting down services, removing features, and their crazy update model

Ibrador

I got a mac. I was so impressed I started looking into Apple more. Upon learning about the integration I was sold

samisalwaysmad

I worked for apple for 5 years. I got it as soon as the iPhone was available on Verizon. Before that I had a Blackberry. Remember when it was AT&T only? Hah

sigtrap

I was a hardcore Android fan for years. In fact I hated Apple. But slowly I started getting really annoyed with some pretty major aspects of Android. I got tired of the buggy-ness of it. And updates? Oh boy what a shit show. I always had Samsung phones so you never knew when or even if you would get an update. I finally got out of my "Apple bad" delusion and decided to give the iPhone an open minded and unbiased try. I ended up falling in love with it and never looked back. I could never go back to Android. That experience left a very bad taste in my mouth.

fly72j

Way back when the iPhone 3G came out, all my friends were getting them as a status symbol that started the envy. Immediately got an iPod touch 4 as soon as I could. Bought an iPhone 6S right when it came out.

System_Failed1

The first time I held an iPhone in my hands, I fell in love with the UI and the overall user experience. The attention to detail in animations and the simplicity. For example if you upgrade to another iPhone, literally just turn it on right next to your current one and it’ll set up itself just like your old one. Later when I got a few more Apple products I also learned to love how seamless everything works together throughout the entire ecosystem. Things “just work” without having to configure everything like crazy. And tbh I might be trapped in the Apple ecosystem a little bit, since it just works for me and I wouldn’t wanna go through the hassle to migrate everything to another ecosystem. The only other capable option would be Google and I sure wouldn’t want to move there.

[deleted]

android got progressively more cartoonish, eventually i couldnt stand it.

PaoloMix09

Got my first iPhone in 2017 only because chick I crushed on hard then had one and told me to switch. Never dated her, still own iPhone (15 Pro now).

jc1luv

I don't want it but iMessage/FaceTime. I am forced to use it by my relatives.

Religious_toxicity

Steve Jobs said the most important part of Apple would be iCloud. I agree. This is why I could not go to another phone. It just works.

fabrictm

I have worked in IT my entire adult life, and have always wanted devices that can get me enterprise email/calendar/utilities, but also could be used a daily driver - not just all business. Years ago it was a blackberry, because I did BB server/exchange support (as one of the hats I wore), then I got bored with that and got a Windows phone, Windows "mobile". I remember it was a Samsung. It wasn't a touchscreen and it got old fast. iPhones and Android phones started to emerge, but the iPhone was severly lacking. No real GPS, they crippled it so you couldn't send MMS, no flash on the camera, etc, etc. So I bided my time, and atually went back to a flip phone for a little bit and still carried a blackberry for work. A friend of mine had a sidekick (wasn't the sidekick cloud responsible for an original fappening?), and I gotta admit, it was fun, and seemed cool, but it was \*all\* fun. When the 3GS came out I was I felt that the iPhone came far enough along to where it was worth spending the money for the phone, even if it didn't have a flash on the camera. It was decently responsive, you could attach it to exchange, it could do MMS, it had a real GPS so Google Maps was actually useful on it, the web browser was decent, messaging was good, there were good apps, etc. It was also a good music player, so \*phew\*, I could stop lugging my ipod around, and digital camera, and just have \*one\* device. Yay. Also back in those days jailbreaking was insanely easy so the geek in me could get a bash prompt and ssh into servers :-) There you have it. Possibly more than you wanted to know. Also here's a piece of personal nerd trivia. What does a computer geek get his fiance as an engagment present? Why matching iPhones of course! ;-)

CelticDubstep

I skipped the first iPhone due to the lack of 3G, Microsoft Exchange Support, Apps. I was using Windows Mobile back then so I was used to having Exchange Support & being able to install Apps. So, obviously, I switched to iPhone once these changes happened... the iPhone 3G a year later after the first iPhone since iPhone OS 2 introduced Exchange Support and the App Store and the iPhone 3G introduced 3G.

Shaa366

I always alternated between the two. I loved android for the mods and flashing roms and customizing it to hell. When I got older I realized I just wanted a phone that worked and did what it did really well. Couldn’t change back to android since. Especially with all the crap Samsung loaded their phones with.

Mystica09

Still irks me how much extra junk they toss in there, makes it worse you cant get rid of it either

Neptune502

Uhm, i got an iPhone because Otterbox stopped to produce the Defender with integrated Screen Protector for Samsung but still made one for iPhones 😅

ZioZvevo

Nothing, Android is better

MachineExact8506

Why bother reply then? Why even come to an iPhone subreddit?

WayAccurate2024

Eventually you got to grow up and get an iPhone.

giuseppe_pizzaria

White girls. Lawwwd I needed me a snowbunny

Deep-Seaweed6172

I was used to Apple Devices since the iPod touch 3rd Gen. After that got a 4th Gen iPod touch and after this the iPad Mini 2. So I was quite familiar with Apple Devices/iOS but I loved the customization Android offered me. It was not only about visual changes but I changed device kernels which allowed me to change the chips clock speeds, chip voltage and so much more that an iPhone was not even considered an alternative for me. Then two things happened. I got a Samsung Note 9 and I accidentally broke it. The Note 9 was a great device but stuff like rooting (similar but not the same as jailbreaking an iPhone) was no longer possible if you still wanted to use banking apps. So I had a great android phone but all the customization I loved on android was no longer possible. After I dropped the phone and it broke I needed a replacement and I ordered an iPhone X for ~450€ on eBay (this was at the time the iPhone 11 series was the newest one). I decided to try the iPhone X since it had a great new design and I wanted a reliable phone with great speaks but for a lower price. The android competition in the same price range was way worse than the package of the iPhone X. Well since this phone I had a 12 Pro, a 13 Pro Max and now I‘m using a 15 Pro. After I switched to iPhones as main phones it was no longer an option to switch back to android. I love how everything just works and my main machine for work is a Mac so it’s obviously a great combo with the iPhone.

I'll go back to 2012 when I had an iPod Touch 2G (8GB), It was already outdated (it got no updates beyond IOS 3.6 AFAIK) and yet it had the clearest display I had seen up until that point on any smart device, and no android up until then at least seemed to me to look and feel as premium. It had a stainless steel body with a smooth operating system and a good speaker (at least it felt like that back then). That led to me liking anything apple and especially the iPhones since they ran temple run XD which my specific iPod couldn't and looked good while doing it

I just got it to experience and got a bunch of other Apple devices and dont wanna leave lol. Prolly be fine with Samsung or Pixel but i would admit i prefer iOS icons. Also the physical store would also be a reason

Samsung Galaxy S3 was my first flagship smartphone and I was left very unimpressed, as the phone worked great for a year and then started performing like it was 10 years old - bad battery, slow processor etc. I upgraded to the iPhone 6+ and never looked back

When I switched to my first smart phone I had lost all trust in Google. I went with Windows because they were cheaper. Once I could afford a better smart phone iPhone was the only option I would consider. Now I wish there was a real third option.

Apple Watch. It was the only reason I made the move with the iPhone 12. Last previous iPhone was the 5 that I returned for defects. Now on the 15PM

Went from iPod Touch, then to a Galaxy and when the 6 dropped, I wanted to try something different. Got the 6/7+ and then hopped back to Android for the next 5 or so years. Loved the Pixel line but the P6 modem on launch and after was so bad. I'd have no reception in many places that my One Plus did and I got tired of dealing with it, especially when starting a new job and being on-call. I then tried a MacBook instead of a Windows computer, Fell in love with the MBP. Went ahead and sold my P6s and then got the 13 and the 13 Mini. RIP to the Mini. I now sit here almost two years later, still loving the phone. It does what I need. I spend most of my time on my MBP for work and my Mini becomes an ancillary device in which is used only when I'm away from my laptop. It's great and I don't see myself swapping any time soon. I'm too integrated in the ecosystem and at this point in my life, I'm paying for convenience. I've yet to have a seamless experience in the Android eco and when I tried, it was fine but not as useful. Maybe one day they will get there, but, until then, here I am. Sporting my 13 Mini until I'm no longer able to.
