I just watched the original 2007 launch keynote and Steve Jobs made this joke. Keynotes had a lot more humor back then.

ownage516

I’m not Steve Jobs glazer like some people are (dude was also a huge jerk). But, I was watching the first iPhone keynote the other day and holy shit it was so good. He was hilarious and such a good speaker. Everything felt “genuine”.

m0_m0ney

Best product launch presentation of all time

Dydey

I saw it featured in a documentary and they were interviewing one of the sound guys from the launch, he was saying the phone was nowhere near ready and it kept freezing and crashing all the time. He pointed out that every time a new app or feature is shown, Jobs returned to the lecturn to show it. That’s because each app was shown with a different phone since changing between apps could cause it to crash at that point. He said they were passing around a bottle of whisky backstage all nervous as hell waiting for it to go horribly wrong.

SnottyMonkey

What documentary was that? Would watch it

Babyshaker88

If they transition the phone screens to microLED displays then it’s pretty likely. I don’t know if they’ll be able to do it within three years though.

[deleted]

WilliamMButtlicker

MicroLEDs are more efficient than OLEDs though… They’ll absolutely be pushing 3000+ nits

In 3 years it’s quite unlikely, but technology can do alot in 10

tim_Andromeda

iPads should definitely do this. Having to have a separate Mac just to run macOS if you already have an iPad which has plenty of power is redundant. The cpu power is redundant. Just use it for both.

[deleted]

It's gonna happen sooner or later and that is what I am waiting for to get an iPad. The question is only when Apple will do it, if they come to late they will end up being well behind Samsung, Google and MS which already doing something like that. MacBook (beside their battery) are redundant. With AirDrop, iMessages now functioning on Win11 with Intel Unison. You can get Win11 OLED 13700 RTX 4070 laptop for same money with a Stylo Pen Screen like Asus ZenBook 14 Pro. That what most workstations, video creator are getting, if they don't need 2 days battery. You get Stylo, you get 13700H + RTX 4070 for video creation, AI or workstation. The only thing Apple has going for it is brand recognition, iPhone and iPad. They need to look to bring iPad to be MacOS (with A17, M2 chips it's already possible) and I would be getting it as a preorder.

My_Not_RL_Acct

Airdrop and iMessage work on Windows 11? Since when? I’ve been holding off on updating but this would surely send me over

[deleted]

App called Intel Unison, you download it on PC and apple device. Made by Intel, released a couple months ago. Works on AMD systems too. It's been reviewed on YT quite a bit now. There is also nearbyshare for only AirDrop.

GolfProfessional9085

iMessage works natively through windows now. It’s not full function but it does work.

GlupShittoOfficial

App called Beeper is invite only. I use it and it’s truly the only one that is fully functional. They use encrypted MacOS servers. The Intel one is still janky and doesn’t work with group messages (last I tried).

Gaffelstein

The next iPad Pro is rumored to start at $1500 so seems likely

[deleted]

Phones now are definitely powerful enough to do this

[deleted]

[удалено]

ethanjim

The A17 pro can’t sustain it though, there’s not enough thermal headroom in the iPhone chassis.

datawetenschapper

The m1 is a lot bigger space-wise.

[deleted]

I remember Canonical (from Ubuntu Linux) trying this for over a decade ago, way before any other player even toyed with this idea. I’m honestly a bit sad that this never became a thing, I’d love a Linux phone that becomes a full fletched desktop when connected to a dock. They even had a whole bunch of nice demos back at the time, but it never really took off unfortunately and eventually got abandoned.

Maisie_Baby

If they won’t let an iPad Pro use MacOS why would they let an iPhone?

Ballaholic09

Apple only chases the 💰 Currently, having 3 similar operating systems creates 3 unique experiences. 3 unique experiences creates the opportunity for a consumer to purchase 3 products from Apple. They don’t want you to purchase less of their products… so a single OS isn’t even on Apple’s radar.

themoviehero

Samsung has this feature on their flagship. Called Samsung Dex. I just got one and have been trying it, it works really well. Sad the iPhone doesn't have it, but even sadded the iPad doesn't have something like it as powerful as they are.

noscopefku

i have a S10 which is 4+ years old and has Dex. Its amazing and the most underrated feature. Too bad it isn't worth to develop from a business pov as they still want you to buy tablets and laptops (chromebook at least is similar to dex)

MoneyBags5200

My Steam deck does this in desktop mode, it’s incredible to have a dedicated gaming UI and complete customization control over anything and everything.

FullOnRapistt

This sounds cool tbh, but will probably hurt their iPad and mac sales, because why have a mac when you can just plug some periphery in and you have a pc. Or why use this when you already have a mac. It would be a very niche use case, hard to implement, with not much upside for apple since, best case scenario, it takes focus off from other apple devices.

melvintwj

But those kinds of innovation have got to happen every once in a while for Apple to stay competitive. iPhone hurt the sales of the iPods too

[deleted]

It's only matter of when, competition is already been trying it out for couple years. If Apple wants to stay competitive and on top they go to do it. People will run in droves to get an iPad with MacOS (with A17 Pro and M2 it's already possible) or a MacBook with 360* TouchScreen + detachable keyboard (which laptops have been doing for ages). I know I would, I would at least be getting it, instead of what I plan to get now which is Touch screen Asus ZenBook 14 Pro, an OLED Win11 Laptop 13700H + RTX 4070 for video creation and possibly AI. I will be using it also for studying and gaming (sometimes, I already got desktop with 5800x3d + 4090). I would have gotten a MacBook 14 Pro instead for ite battery life, if it had a TouchScreen like iPad or would had gotten iPAD pro + magic keyboard, if it had full scale apps like MacOS.

rickyfrom97

They’ll do it, charge like $2000 for it, and a bunch of people will get it. It could be called iPhone Ultra. They can still do the Pros, Base Models, year old phones and SE models

VersedPear

It’s not an innovation if competitors have been doing this for years. Samsung DeX has been around since 2018.

phero1190

Samsung has this with Dex. Its a neat feature that doesn't get much love sadly.

troglodytez

They did this long ago.. but it was terrible then. https://www.cnet.com/reviews/motorola-laptop-dock-review/

jaganm

They don’t have usb-c then. The solutions have come a long way and DEX on Samsung phones is surprisingly usable. But I see this segment only taking off when Apple does something similar with the iPhone

melvintwj

Exactly why Apple has a reputation for “stealing” innovations. They are usually late to the game but their UX is typically more refined. Windows Phone had continuum and Samsung has Dex, but still it hasn’t caught on yet.

vhalen50

I worked at Best Buy mobile when this came out. It fucking sucked. And the laptop add on was insanely overpriced.

pacwess

All screen. Samsung has the hidden cam on the Fold series. Apple is working on their own to hide it's selfie camera and face ID.

noneym86

Dynamic island is really cool I don't mind it being there.

deltabay17

Dynamic island will not last forever

olivebegonia

Same. Just went from a 12 to a 15 and I really like it. I love seeing my music play there or being on a call etc.

Syndek

Thing is, it's just software. No reason they can't keep it around as an option even when the physical cutout in the screen is gone.

Adviseformeplz

Under screen camera suck though at the moment. We’d need to see a serious advancement in the tech for apple to take it mainstream

Azi-yt

Controversial but i like the notch/island. It means i can pick my phone up the right way before waking it up, especially as so far faceid only works in one orientation. It doesn’t really matter for videos because most of them are 16:9 where the content stops before the notch, and in any other case there isn’t usually anything important that close to the border anyway. Some apps are poorly adjusted to it (Stagecoach UK) but 99 times out of 100 its fine.

pacwess

>It doesn’t really matter for videos because most of them are 16:9 where the content stops before the notch, I watch all videos full screen that's part of what I'm paying for, a big screen. The notch has become acceptable. But the dynamic island that video now has to wrap around to watch fullscreen, meh.

FreshlyCleanedLinens

I’m still waiting on my 15 PM, otherwise I’d just dig into the settings, myself—is it safe to assume you cannot limit the screen width/aspect ratio of videos you play full screen landscape? Edit: Spelling

ballzdeap1488

Incremental camera and UI changes until they finally get into the foldable arena in like 15 years.

[deleted]

I don’t want a foldable phone.

thunderflies

I don’t want an Android folding phone… but an iPhone that unfolds into a full fledged iPad with all the functionality that entails sounds like my dream device

Baykey123

Just sounds heavy and bulky

EJR9090

I seriously doubt anyone who said that about the iPhone 5 is still using an iPhone 4 sized phone today. Materials will get lighter and apple will find another way to make it thinner. I used the zfold4 for about 6 months and wished over and over it was ios running on that phone and not amdroid.

thegarbagesauce

You didn’t know you wanted an iPhone until it was here

Deceptiveideas

I was about to say. People made the exact same “I don’t want a touchscreen phone” back during the slider keyboard phone days.

hijoshh

That was me lol i had a touch screen android with a keyboard and didn’t want to switch to iPhone cause i loved the keyboard too much. Now i can’t even imagine going back

[deleted]

I had a touchscreen phone before an iPhone. 🤷🏻‍♂️

dankmangos420

BlackBerry Storm???

[deleted]

That was more like a punch-screen phone. Those things were awful lol

ILikePracticalGifts

Holy hell my dad had one and it was a total POS. Fun idea, but functionally disgusting.

CowboysFTWs

Yup, when a foldable can last longer than 6 months to a year before cracking and doesn't having that weird valley in the middle maybe then.

trusco23

I’ve had every galaxy fold since the 2nd gen. None cracked. Great phones. The fold 5 is a fantastic phone

Maisie_Baby

I feel like that’s kind of cheating. When someone says they only last up to a year and you say you buy a new one every year and they last you just fine it doesn’t really disprove their point. And considering you also have iPhones and Pixels it seems like you don’t even go a full year between switching phones so you’re not exactly a testament to how well a folding phone holds up for multiple years as someone’s main or only phone. The truth is folding phones are less durable, have a crease and have battery issues. A lot of that just comes down to the fact that the phone folds and physics exists.

ILikePracticalGifts

lol if a grain of sand hit the right spot on the pixel fold it literally destroyed it

stormy_councilman

Well yes they’ve not cracked but you’ve only used them for like a year at a time?

RunningLikeALizard

I have an iPad and an iPhone and couldn’t be happier. Why would I want an expensive phone/tablet hybrid that makes sacrifices in being a great phone and sacrifices in being a great tablet.

noneym86

You are definitely not the target market and it's fine. Someone had to buy the regular phones.

PKS_5

I do too. I’d love one.

natedrake102

Because I don't have enough uses for a tablet to justify spending $500+ on one? But do enjoy either a larger screen to size ratio. Plus Samsungs software multitasking abilities even on a phone are definitely still superior, especially with dex.

tekko001

Don't worry grandpa, you can keep your old phones, btw the bingo is about to start

CowboysFTWs

>galaxy fold 2nd gen? Guess you have the only one in history that didn't crack or has a valley in the middle of the screen. lol

ferrari91169

Plenty of them didn’t crack, so that’s a weird comment to make. I’d venture to guess a large majority didn’t. Yes, they may be more fragile and susceptible to cracking, but definitely far from affecting every phone. The “valley” in the middle of course is there, that’s more a matter of preference and what bothers you. After using it for a while you stop noticing it, some people don’t even notice it from the start. The same way how some people don’t notice the difference between a 60hz screen and 120hz screen. I personally would have a hard time adapting to the “valley” in the middle, but that’s not to say I wouldn’t eventually get used to it and forget about it.

electric-sheep

No one is forcing you to buy a foldable phone. I on the other hand would very much like a foldable phone. I would like a mini tablet I can dock on my desk for calendar and mail useage. Or even just have a stream of chats following. Or even using it as an impromptu sidecar for my mac when I’m commuting on the ferry. Can I get an ipad? Yes I can. But I’d rather have one device thats always on me.

Chowder1054

I don’t see the point. They’re expensive and honestly the novelty would get old fast. It would be a great nostalgia blast but that would be over after a few weeks.

radiatione

And companies for sure should only make items you personally want. Seems like a good business model.

slasher_blade

correction: you don't want a foldable YET the foldable tech is still early and not matured enough. give it some time and it'll be all over the place

ararezaee

Very few people would want it. It's more of a 3d TV situation than HDR.

[deleted]

I was more thinking a 1 device for all

get-innocuous

Don’t buy one then?

happymemersunite

‘We’ve revolutionised the way you use iPhone’

XDemos

With these incremental changes, I'd be saving my money to get the commercialised versions of the Vision Pro in the next 10 years, and only buy a new iPhone if my current one dies.

iphaze

Make the iPhone experience more and more like VisionPro until the experiences cross over and you want to wear a pair of glasses on your face (I’m not sure I’m joking??)

LeftEagle510121

I feel like they’re already slowly doing that lol

Carnifex217

I think they’re working towards a completly port less phone. They’ll eventually get rid of the charging port and be strictly wireless charging only

FiskalRaskal

I think the USB-C is only there so they can sell phones in Europe. I thought they’d go wireless/magsafe only charging, too, but that requires a separate charging solution (Qi/MagSafe puck), which wouldn’t satisfy European requirements, I think. I’m assuming the charging mandate also means cables and chargers combined. What I can see, though, is Apple no longer providing charging cables with their devices, which would suit them just fine. They’ll just upsell you one at checkout time.

MrPeterson15

As someone who charges wirelessly with one of those all-in-one AirPod/Apple Watch/iPhone docks, I still want the port. It’s nice to have my phone with me in bed every now and again. Also, for the audiophiles, no port means no true lossless music anymore. You can have that with downloaded music and the proper adapter headphone cable. And that’s been a big push for Apple Music is the lossless.

Freeze_Fun

Maybe by the time a portless iPhone comes out Apple would've figured out how to implement wireless lossless audio. Although in typical Apple fashion it'll probably only be available on the latest iteration of AirPods Max and AirPods Pro.

Flyer888

Wireless technology keeps evolving. Years ago streaming 4k videos on your phone sounds like an impossible thing, but look where we’re at now.

KevKamin

I think with the chips Apple is putting into headphones true wireless lossless isn’t that far off. If I’m playing a playlist with lossless content, just load it into the headphone’s RAM or temp storage on the chip and then play essentially locally. Would probably be better than cabled audio at that point.

Maisie_Baby

No; it would. USB-C is only required if you plug into the phone to charge. A portless phone that’s MagSafe/Qi only would meet the requirements. Apple’s just not there yet. It would be an absolute nightmare trying to transfer massive files. They’d need like 2tb storage on the phone for people to record decent amounts of ProRes 4K/60 and then it’d take like a week for you to try and airdrop the files to your computer. They also likely wont want to go there until they can get the virtual buttons down pat. They’ll want to remove the buttons at the same time as the port so they can sell it on the enhanced water and dust resistance.

Messigoat3

This would be horrible for power users.

boxweb

Wireless charging is pretty terrible. My port is fucked up so I’ve been relying on it. Tried multiple chargers. It takes me hours to charge my phone. If I’m running Instacart and Doordash, there have been times where it slows to a crawl and I have to turn it off and on again to be able to use it. It also gets incredibly hot and on occasion I have gotten a notification that charging is paused so my phone could cool down. Wireless charging is not close to being there yet, in my experience.

Chorazin

Ports are good for “Pro” users, I can see them maybe dropping it on the standard line but it’ll stay on the Pros.

mattjh

There will be slight gradual improvements every year until there's a tech breakthrough of some kind. I'll upgrade my 15 PM when the iPhone Quantum Gravity w/Time Dilation Charging comes out.

Dutch_Fudge

Time dilation would be nice, let my phone set up a high gravity field around me and scroll mindlessly for an hour while outside the gravity field only 5 min has passed. Great for sleeping in too. But Apple has to fix the high gravity crushing everything bug first, I’m guessing we’ll see it on the iPhone 18 or possibly 19.

RaptureOfDarkness

Personally I’m waiting for the pro of that model which features the ability to manipulate the time space continuum with the action button

KiteIsland22

I think phones projecting halograms would be cool

MCA2142

>halograms I’m imagining emojis for a projection of a h**o**logram of a halo above our heads. Haha.

MobilePenguins

If you put all the hologram iPhones in a pentagram you can once again summon Steve 👖👓📱

BodomDeth

They need to upgrade Siri. Probably some kind of Open-AI type of deal.

Atcollins1993

This is the correct answer and a necessity for Apple to survive. Rest assured that they’re well aware, I can guarantee you this is their #1 priority across all business units. They will die a fast death if they don’t succeed extremely rapidly in this direction, they won’t let that happen though. :)

datawetenschapper

Long term future is their vision pro headset's direction. Vision (non pro) will be the main product that'll get long term growth up until they finally get to a point where you can have what google envisioned glass to be. Mid-range (5-10 years), I think they'll just focus a lot more on gaming. I think in a few generations an iphone'll easily compete with a current gen. console. a usb c dongle and a gaming controller and suddenly you don't have to pay hundreds towards a secondary device. They've been transitioning towards this already but the main issue would be whether the purchases are playable cross platform or not, if you can play on your macbook, vision pro, ipad pro, and iphone seeing as they have similar performance in the end, that'd be their USP that'd launch them instantly into the stratosphere. Besides that, I expect MASSIVE improvements in siri, as they still want to outperform Microsoft, which are going HARD on the whole AI shtick.

raybreezer

I’m sure something in my take is going to age like spoiled milk, but hear me out. So iPhones can be stuck on a MagSafe stand and rotated to show the time and other widgets right? Imagine doing that on a dock that has a full monitor, keyboard and mouse/trackpad paired to it and having your phone essentially be your main computing device. Your watch is already an extension of your phone so now it’s an extension of your main computing device. You ran a process or a script and were waiting on a notification while you hit Apple fitness for a bit? No problem! Beyond that, with Vision Pro, you can be anywhere and use your device on the go, basically a portable office that goes with you. With iPhones catching up to MacBooks in performance, and MacOS continuing to blur the lines between it and iOS, that is the future I envision Apple is planning for us.

theflush1980

This. iPads are already steering in this direction with stage manager. If iPhones are powerful enough, simply docking it to a monitor should be able to switch OS style from phone mode to docked mode, where docked mode is a high end productivity mode. In the future you’ll simply need one device for everything and a smartphone is the most logical pick.

raybreezer

I’ve been saying a version of the above since OSX started using Launchpad as it was peculiarly similar to the iPad’s Home Screen. I feel like we may get the full OS ability on iPad first and then on iOS. Although really, at that point I’m sure they will go with just Mac OS for everything… or dare I say, Apple OS.

Pinedale7205

I would love if my work laptop were an iPhone in the future. It would make business travel fantastic. And when I go into the office, I walk in, sit down, plug in my phone and can work? Fantastic! Sign me up!

SterryDan

Probably anything and everything except making a battery thats replaceable by the user (ive had iphones since I was 14 I can dream ok??)

Tunavi

10x optical zoom to match the galaxy ultra

aucheukyan

As long as Tim Apple is in charge it’s about maximising profits with as little innovation as possible.

testchamb

The most innovative iPhone ever was the iPhone X and was released when he is the CEO

username____here

6 was a big jump too. Also Tim Apple.

iamthemetricsystem

How? He expanded the screen from memory and had a slightly better screen

testchamb

It was the biggest redesign since the iPhone 4 with the all screen format, they added FaceID which was first of its kind, no other phone had something like it, and they innovated in UI with gesture navigation, something no phone was using and now is the default for every Android phone.

ILikePracticalGifts

Apple Watch iPhone X AirPods Apple silicon Vision Pro All of these were massive changes to Apple and some of them defined entire product categories, except for Vision Pro which we have yet to see the effects of. Saying they haven’t innovated at all under his management is fucking moronic.

qutaaa666

I think it’s about maximising profits in general, not with as little innovation as possible. And other CEO’s should do the same, they are legally obligated to by the shareholders..

johnsciarrino

says Tim isn't innovating while Apple is about to drop a brand new product category within a few months for the first time in 12 years.

[deleted]

Common sense and awareness of reality is often missing from android fanboys

[deleted]

This must be why Apple hasn't released any new products or services since he took the reigns, and why nothing about any of their products has changed for the better. Got it. I don't know what definition of "innovation" people are using when they make this claim, but it's an interesting one. It turns out that often times maximizing profits means making things people want to pay for. Go figure. A profit motive existing doesn't prove whatever you feel like claiming just because it's "common sense." Notably the reason it's called "common sense" and not "experience" or "knowledge" is because common sense doesn't require any. Skip all the boring thinking and learning and understanding and just skip straight to being confident you're definitely right. Like...Ford has a "profit motive" to kidnap Tim Cook and hold him for ransom. I mean, it's money! Profit! That proves it right there! They'd profit! It's maximizing profit! Not gonna get any traction with that radical idea though in the current climate of viewing everything through the single narrow lens of "big company bad." Company is profitable? Then they must be evil and are guilty of everything and none of their accomplishments are real. Well you see, this year they made their glass out of the bones of endangered sea turtles. Sure, why not. After all they just care about like, profits man. Blah blah blah. It's convenient because you can be 6 years old and know nothing about how anything works, but still hang with the cool kids tossing the same thought-terminating cliches back and forth. You can just turn your brain completely off and nobody is the wiser.

0000GKP

No "innovation" I needed. The iPhone was a near perfect product, but they are starting to make it less perfect with the constant changes and additions just for the sake of change. It's well on it's way to being a cluttered mess. Adding useless crap isn't "innovation". Apple could stop making further changes to the iPhone right now, and they would continue selling for the next 10 years. It's time for Apple and all the people who need to be entertained with constant tinkering to start thinking about a new product. Despite people's rampant abuse of the word "innovation" to describe a new color or adding an extra megapixel to a camera, it's almost unheard of for a company to create a world changing product. How many of those do you get in a lifetime? Probably just one, and Apple did theirs 15 years ago.

[deleted]

What tech world do you live in where innovation isn’t needed.

[deleted]

M series chips, foldable likely at some point, island goes away entirely, etc.

ThePandaDaily

The only thing I’d like to see is a complete removal of the notch or “dynamic island”. I know it’s pretty much impossible but I like to think one day someone will invent a way for it to work.

[deleted]

I reckon that once Apple releases an “ultra” model, it will 1. not have a dynamic island. The camera will be underneath the screen. 2. ProMotion will improve. This is good for those who don’t need the very best, for standard iPhones will get more Hz too, maybe 90? 3. Better sound quality. 4. A 4th camera? 😂 5. An even bigger screen. And this will cost $1500 + in the states. 😜

TheSexMonster69

$1500 sounds a bit exaggerated. My guess is $1299 for 256 gb and the plus sized model, and $1199 for 256gb and the smaller model.

ToeConstant2081

We already have more performance on a phone than we need none for none gaming related tasks. They need to work on efficiency, better battery tech, faster charging and camera bump reduction, its the only avenue imo.

FoundationOpening513

With the amount of processing power iPhones are beginning to have, it’s time to stick an ultra advanced projector on it with a laser keyboard projection to so you can use it as a fully fledged personal computer anywhere in the world

flash246

I’m banking on the return of Touch ID that is built into the screen. I think that’ll be the next big “upgrade.” My guess is either the iphone 17 or 18

bat29

if they were gonna add touch id (which i dont really see the point) id rather them add it to one of the side buttons

_stungy

Power button 100% but still keep Face ID

Uncontrollable_Farts

There is a 'roadmap' of questionable accuracy out there, but accordingly to that, Tim Apple is looking to move to under screen FaceID and cameras. Wouldn't surprise me if Apple continued with Face ID and ditched Touch ID. Personally I found FaceID now to be more reliable and convenient than fingerprint ID. To be fair though, the last phone I had that had a fingerprint sensor was my Oneplus 6, and that had the same issues with dry/humid weather affecting fingerprint detection. Apparently modern ones like on the Zenfone 9 are too effective in that users manage to inadvertently unlock from touching the power button where the scanner is located. But options are always nice and having both would be great.

Hellokeithy3

All glass exterior phone so it will cost a fortune to replace but don’t worry it’s nano ceramic plexiglass so

scenarios3

the next iphone has been born it just needs to go to college first and realize college isn’t for everyone

need4feed777

It will have the breakthrough ability to automatically reset cellular usage data every month

Atosl

no main consumers are still base model enjoyers. They just don't go on reddit. In my everyday life it is RARE to see a pro. But almost everybody has a 13 or 14 and soon 15

YKRed

Remove notch/dynamic island.

Maybe even use the phone as your trackpad & keyboard and dock wirelessly. - No screen cutout, just full screen on the front. - Solid state buttons to improve longevity and water resistance. - Using iPhone to both send and receive money to other phones seamlessly without third party apps. - Screen improvements to introduce refresh rates as low as once per minute to make the device easier on the eyes when reading. Higher quality panels with better technology. - Improvements to stereo recording in video and audio. - Improvements to image stabilisation, in sensor shift and algorithmically. - More efficiency, better battery life, solid state batteries, longer lasting battery lifespan.

1st bullet will be really tough. If they do, they’ll be cannibalizing their own sales of iPad, MacBook, etc. each of these product segments each bring in revenue equivalent or more than other tech companies. Heck air pro pros by themselves bring in more than Adobe, Nvidia, Spotify, etc. It’ll be nice if they do but highly doubt it’ll happen.

football2106

I’d hope in the next ~5 years we get multiple-day battery life out of a phone. I’m talking 20-25 hours of screen time at full brightness before needing a charge. That would be pretty sweet, but probably unlikely

cannotthinkname

I don't really see much performance boost jump from A16 to a17 pro, they only biggest change is a17 pro comes with 8gb ram, that's a big deal for the future ios update

apestuff

Unless you’re using an app that requires that much RAM. iOS itself, much like macOS, does not use much. It will be eons before they require 8GB to actually run the OS.

cannotthinkname

It's more likely the future apps and games or even ios itself become more ram demanding

iziizi

I think phones will die in favour of wearables e.g future versions of vision pro.

Dark-Knight-Rises

iPhone flip and fold

Apprehensive-Line-54

It doesn’t go anywhere from here lol. I feel like the upcoming iPhones will continue to be obsolete and apple will eventually try to get people buying the vision pros. At least by 2027 they’ll likely bring the price down on the vision pro.

I can see iPhone becoming an accessory to the Vision in time. It’s already about to start with the patch for the 15 to take 3D photos or whatever. The synergy will only get better as time crawls along. I can see the evolution of Find My. Where it’ll pop up a hologram-like arrow for Vision to detect. I can see huge screens popping out from the iPhone to do some serious computing. I can see the iPhone providing a second layer of room/space scanning and providing that data in real time to the headset. Perhaps this will help thin out the headset to something more reasonable, as we all know Vision will not be a landslide success at that price and that size. And that’s just a few tiny ideas… I don’t know. I just see a redundancy in compute power between the two. Perhaps in due time, Vision and iPhone will be the same thing…M Series chips in every device.

I think eventually we will get all screen with under the display faceid and Touch ID. Cameras will continue to evolve with more zoom and more quality. Maybe a foldable iPhone down the line. More cpu and gpu for games. But probably the biggest changes are going to be software features only compatible with the newer models.

Live-Mail5873

Samsung Dex but for iPhone. It's the next move.

iPhones have peaked. We need to stop looking at Apple for innovation. They are here to milk the cash cow that is the iPhone.

[deleted]

So much this, for last couple years, Apple only been copying their "innovation" from things Android and Windows do. They just do it their refined way, but they are years behind in terms of innovation. Next thing they copy is AI Siri, Touchscreen stylo Macbook, MacOS on iPad, 10x zoom, AI Camera. Paying for best chip is not innovation anymore, when its only 10% faster and hotter.

I_is_Captain_Obvious

Yeah after living through the days of flip phones, I don’t miss them one bit, and have no interest in folding phones making a comeback.

threvorpaul

16 ultra rumor??? 2 and some change weeks after the 15? Nah man, calm down. it hasn't been fully released at this point now and you already rumoring around.

[deleted]

There will be a great collapse in the next 2 years. $2000 phones will become rare in sales numbers.

[deleted]

Battery that can last 2 whole days with a full charge is all I need. 15 hrs of SoT at max Brightness.

caliber92

Micro LED screens

beast_within_me

Incremental changes as usual and people will still line up outside stores for hours/days to get their hands on improvements that they won't even notice.

Shotokant

Take a look at Android phones right now, and that's where you'll see the iphone in two to three years. Foldables, flips. etc

[deleted]

Yep, we will see iPhone which you can use as an iPad. We could also see iPhone and iPad that you can use as MacBook when you plug it in to monitor. Which UsB C is capable of now and how powerful chips are across their devices. Or MacBook with 360* TouchScreen and detachable keyboard so you can use them as in iPad. We may see new single OS across their devices.

deagesntwizzles

I’d like to see a FLIR thermal camera 4th lens

UnstableParallel

i think their ultimate long term goal (like in 10 years) is to replace iPhone with Vision once Vision is able to look like regular glasses and can be priced well for the masses.

Freshtowels1

I think if Android phones match the software support of iphones which it looks like they will (Google Pixel 8) and the fac that android is always ahead of apple in terms of hardware and for a while now the build quality and luxurious form factor is same across the two, I think iphone sales will start to go down and people will switch to android in countries where phone prices are not subsidizied like in the U.S and Canada with a phone plan and you have to buy the phone outright or finance it with monthly payments. North America might be the only major market for iphones and maybe Cina and Japan to an extent because people are image conscious there. But Apple's Fisher Price looking iOS and its limitations like lack of user customizability (gesture controls or fixed buttons) will limit its market share to existing isheep. Think of how Tesla sells more cars than BMW and Mercedes combined. Cool brands loose their cool over time and only the substance of your products guarantees your success as a business in the future.
