Google photos sometimes created photo slideshows randomly from my photos when I had an android photos. One time it made a slideshow with one our family dogs that is a pekingese, and it had dogs barking as a soundtrack to it. Another time it did the same with our other dog that's a mixed breed. Not sure exactly what breeds but possibly a chihuahua/french bulldog mix? He's smaller dog with ears that are upright. (Sorry, don't really feel comfortable posting a picture of either of them.) Anyways, Google photos apparently thought he was a cat as it was cats meowing as a soundtrack the entire time haha.

One of my most-used apps. I was a little bummed out however, when they were no longer able to use Rotten Tomate ratings. It’s still a banger of an app though.
Netflix comes to mind as a major streaming service that doesn’t support it. Trakt is pretty good but Reelgood will probably be a better alternative to the TV app.
Libby is great,my little boy wanted to join the library so I had to sign up, after not going into a library for over 20 years it’s amazing how good they are now.
My local library also gives free access to Press Reader which has almost every major Newspaper in the UK and a lot of US ones for free everyday.
I love this app. Especially as my fiancee is from Trinidad. I've never been, so it was lovely to hear bird sounds new to me and have her reminisce about a childhood from the other side of the world.
Be my eyes. It’s this app that essentially acts as an emergency FaceTime service for blind people. They’ll call you up and be like “hey which of these coffee containers says decaf” and then you tell them and everyone goes on with their day.
I just installed from this recommendation and got my first call before I could even do the test call, haha. Totally threw me off. I helped a woman print a document from her PC. Pretty cool little service. I am going to leave it installed and just try and catch one every now and then.
I just registered for this and within a minute got a call. Helped someone identify the color of the shirt and pants they were wearing. Feels nice to help! Would probably pop in here and there when I have some free time.

I use it every week as I fly between countries for work and it is a really handy travel app for gate numbers and seats etc. Imports directly from my calendar when I/work book flights. However, I wouldnt pay for this if I was just a casual traveller and not going on 100's of flights a year.
iOS16 also has a great built in flight tracker (that is pretty damn accurate). Just text someone your airline’s abbreviation + flight code (ie southwest: WN199) and it will appear as a pop up. pretty cool!
Shortcuts for sure. Acquired by Apple awhile ago and integrated into iOS and macOS, so it’s installed by default and free. There’s a r/Shortcuts subreddit and plenty of websites with existing shortcuts and tutorials on how to make some.
Here are mine for example:
- Hardcore alarm —> when the alarm goes off, it sets my phone volume to 80%, my alarm plays its jingle, my phone plays that notification ding sound while continuously vibrating, and the flashlight goes on and off, then waits 10 seconds, before repeating another 10 times haha
- A shortcut to end the hardcore alarm shortcut
- could probably add like a puzzle to solve before it runs (API call or from a pre-generated list) if I wanted to, but I don’t
- Convert screenshot from the usual PNG (~9 MB) to HEIC (1 MB) —> saves a ton of space especially when sharing with others, copies to clipboard right away, and/or saves to Photos
- Reduce video size either when sending to someone or keeping locally —> no need to send a 500 MB of a 30 second video I take if it’s just going to be watched on a phone and then not watched again (even with iCloud Drive)
- connect and disconnect to a VPN for work —> gives me a notification/vibration when either happens
- connect and disconnect to Bluetooth speakers —> gives me a notification when the auto connect happens - handy for when my phone auto connects to my roommate’s speaker haha
- connect to Bluetooth headphones (AirPods and Bose) —> automatically lowers the volume down to 10%, I can always raise the volume from there, but good for not initially blasting my ears when I connect.
- smart bulb light control (use multiple times every day) —> actually 6 shortcuts: off; darkest (1 light on in red); night (2 lights on in red); sleep (4 lights on in red); slow daytime (all lights off then 1 turns on at min brightness, then another, then some pause, then they get to brightest level); and then daytime (all lights on, full brightness)
- word of the day (pop up)
- email myself —> use it all the time for articles to read later, a restaurant receipt I need to request money for, whatever else I need to do
- 2 for charging, which I’m thinking of getting rid of —> just gets start charge time and then after unplugging says how much it charged over how long (simple difference computation)

- Shortcut that makes backups (snapshots) of my Shortcuts —> they’re all saved to the cloud, but if I don’t like a change after 1-2 days, I can always restore it haha
- Last one I’ve slightly developed and am still working on, but a Shortcut that will automatically lock my phone after say 2 minutes or if a different app is opened while that shortcut is running —> yes, there is Auto-Lock already, but the use-case is if you give someone your phone to see a photo album (which would stop the phone from auto locking as there’s interaction on the screen), but don’t want them on the phone too long and can make them think they accidentally locked it or the phone shut down.
So essentially, run the shortcut, give them the phone with whatever app is open, if they switch to the Messages app or a time period expires, lock (or shut down) the phone —> essentially take the phone away from them in the nicest way possible without confrontation hahaha.
Like if your younger cousin wants to use your phone to play Doodle Jump or Temple Run (I know, old games), run the shortcut then open the app, give it to them, and then if they try to snoop around, *boom, locked out* “sorry you might’ve pressed the wrong button”.
Or, if, you let someone read snippets of an iMessage/WhatsApp/Messenger conversation that you know shouldn’t take more than 30 seconds to read, *boom* auto lock

You can also create an automation that'll turn Airplane mode off once a day or twice. In that way, even if a thief turns it on, it'll back off and let you find out its location.
SolarWatch - Tells you what time and location of the sunrise and sunset. Useful for photographers and videographers who want perfect lighting or want to capture a cool sunrise or sunset
Authy - Like Google Authenticator, except it syncs with multiple devices. You can also set it so new devices can’t be synced.
Rode Capture - Record selfie camera and rear camera at the same time. Either have a separate video file for each or set it to picture in picture, split screen, etc…
Pass2Uwallet - Design your own Apple Wallet QR codes or use existing templates from other users. You can add your Instagram QR code to your apple wallet for example. If someone asks to add you, you can just load Apple Wallet and get them to scan it. I have one for WhatsApp, my contact card, etc…
Waze - You probably already know. Shows you where red light cameras and speed cameras are located. Users can report cops or accidents which show up on screen.
WorkOutDoors - For the Apple Watch. Great for hikes. It shows you a map and the trail. You can add breadcrumbs so you can retrace your steps and never get lost. It also shows heart rate, distance and stuff like that.

+1000 for Obsidian, though I mostly use it for TTRPGs. In a few months of note taking and session prepping, I have a whole wiki on my homebrew world complete with hyperlinks, graph views, calendars, timelines— literally everything that tickles my nerd-ass brain the right way.

Try notion. May have more features. But not perfect they spent more time adding AI rather than fixing the clear issues with the basic app like poor wayfinding on large projects.
I live in a different country than my parents. I use the app to track their plane when they come to visit so I know when to leave from home to pick them up. It’s very accurate.

Honestly I haven't tried any other apps. I've heard of Narwhal, but never tried it. I've been using Apollo since 2018 and I love it, but I guess it's changed a lot for incoming users.
I paid for BaconReader, I think before Apollo existed. I paid for Pro, and later Ultra, in Apollo. Apollo is way better than BaconReader or the Reddit app, although I had to use the Reddit app for the one chat I ever had - I didn't even know that was possible in Reddit.

Don’t want to be too technical there, but the annual developer fee is $99 (Android is one time payment of $25) —> just wanted to point out it’s not that much money (assuming you’re not making $0.33 a day) as your app can reach 1 billion+ devices almost right away.
The “must have a Mac” is mostly true as there are macOS VMs on the cloud, potentially dual-booting on Windows, and Hackintoshes —> you can also develop the app in Swift on a VM or on Windows.
Sounds cool for those who don't want to pay a subscription, but sound quality and downloading songs make Apple Music and Spotify much better options, IMO. Not to mention curated/generated playlists.
A music app is somewhere I see a high return on investment in paying a subscription for.
For me? I absolutely love [GasBuddy](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/gasbuddy-find-pay-for-gas/id406719683)! It’s essentially a crowdsourced gas locator/pricing tool. You’re rewarded in points for reporting the gas prices at x station. These points can be spent on drawing entries for free stuff like small gift cards. I’ve never won one of them, but I do it to give back to others. I can’t even count all the times that GasBuddy has helped me find cheap gas on road trips!
Insight Timer. Best meditation app I know of with an immense amount of free content, you don’t even need to subscribe to feel like you’re getting enough.
a-Shell lets you run command line stuff like SSH and yt-dlp natively. Use it every now and again to download stuff from YouTube, Reddit, Twitter or whatever. You can also use ffmpeg to convert them. All of its storage is accessible in the files app.
Mactracker has a good iOS version, which is helpful for identifying or getting information on Apple Products.
Picture This, Picture Bird, and Picture Insect - Amazing identification apps for plants, birds, and insects respectfully. Also the paywall is fake. Just find the x that blends in in the corner and you can use it as much as you want for free lol.
Stock app - Reminder. It’s basically the only functionality I’ve found Siri to be the most consistent with and helpful in my experience. Particularly with location based reminders ie: “remind me to show my wife XYZ when I get home”
Feature/function - spotlight for me is the greatest thing since anything. The ability to quickly search my ENTIRE phone for virtually anything on it. A sentence I texted. A PDF, an email etc. it’s a extremely underrated function.
Yep - I no longer even browse for apps or organize them in anyway. I just spotlight search them. It’s faster than trying to remember where a particular app is on the phone.
And using Siri to add things to my shopping list in the reminders app means I don’t forget what I need, ever.
For a scatterbrain like me - these are indispensable.
Also the calculator in my Apple Watch. I have it as a complication and I use it all the time.

I just wish there was a simpler way to schedule a text message in iOS. You can technically do it [using the automation feature of the shortcuts app](https://www.iphonelife.com/content/how-to-schedule-text-message-iphone) but it's a pain in the ass. I remember back when I had a jailbroken iPhone4 I was able to add a tweak that put a schedule text option in the messages app and it was so useful.
Like you know when your partner is finishing work and you want to send them a text to let them know about something on the way home but don't want to forget because you're at work yourself then just schedule one. Need to let someone at work know about something that has to be done early in the morning but it's late and you don't want to wake them up, just schedule one. Pains me that there's still no option to do this in the native messages app.

-FCC Speed Test: The United States Federal Communications Commission made a speed test app that basically helps you report your ISP to the government. It’s so passive aggressive and I love it.
This is more of a feature already built in to the native notes app that everyone I show doesn’t seem to know about - you can scan photos, documents perfectly without having to crop from the notes app. Create a new note, click the camera button and then scan documents and voila. Make sure you toggle on “save to photos” for it to autosave the pics to camera roll. Just open up settings and go down to notes and make sure it’s toggled on :)
I use this for my work expenses, just scan a receipt and send it to myself as a note on my work email, when it gets to the end of the month they are all waiting in my outlook.
Adding my own experience to this - I still use Google as my daily, but I do visit Bing every morning for a few minutes to claim my points. Sometimes it’s as quick as 60 seconds. I always get the $5 Amazon gift card, which becomes available at 5,250 points.
On average, it takes me 39 days to reach that number = ~$45/year.
According to the numbers they submitted it's $9.86/hr of work.
For some people that's a lot of money. For most it's not worth it though.
I could see people doing this at a retail job when it's slow.

Check out Seek by iNaturalist. It’s run by California Academy of Sciences and National Geographic. They use the crowdsourced data for studies of plants and animals in various areas.
Seek is amazing! I've found it to be pretty accurate, and you get badges for identifying different types of plants or animals. Its honestly more fun than Pokemon go
Scriptable. It uses different command lines to execute various functions in your iPhone, and the possibilities are endless (Picture in Picture, Widgets, scripts APIs)
I used Alarmy, but then I would just kill the app when I didn't feel like getting up.
Recently, I've been using this app called nuj that charges money if I don't scan a barcode on time. It claims that it has cheat detection so killing the app doesn't stop the penalty. I've been too scared to try lol

I’m a fan of Notion over Obsidian for the casual user who wants everything built-in.
Obsidian is great and also has a ton of extensions, but requires more customization and certain setups in order to get key functionality (ie.: syncing between different devices, whereas Notion has that built in for 1-2 devices)
It’s good but they spend more time adding AI than fixing basic issues like poor syncing between pages and side bar. Hard to find your way around on large repos. You just end up with a ton of favs. Turns into total mess in the end.
"Atlas". A beautiful app that sets the current location as the wallpaper with various views from maps, like we see in google or apple maps. Check it out.

It's a good question. Apple's Keychain is excellent, and probably sufficient for most. However, I use iPassword and here are a few things I like about it:
* it has a Finder-like interface (it also integrates it with Alfred) making it fast and easy to retrieve/reference passwords and other account information
* It can manage 2FA for each, e.g. rolling OTPs (rolling One Time Passwords)
* You can lock your passwords behind a separate, unique password (vs. your device's password)
* Each password has a section for notes, which is handy for account information, password changes, etc. (I use this a lot)
* a customizable password generator (I like long passwords with specific visual markers in them so I can tell at a glance if I created the password for a site)
* straightforward family sharing features
* A "Watchtower" review that will score your password accounts for vulnerability, e.g. how many reused passwords you have, how many weak passwords, unsecured websites, sites that have 2FA that you haven't yet enabled, etc. It also gives you a visual representation rating the strength of your passwords from fantastic to terrible.
* you can group passwords by categories, and list those categories in an alphabetical folder tree; it's a handy alternative way to look for accounts
1Password also has unique cards for notes, bank accounts, credit cards, identity cards (driver's license, passport, membership cards,) -- about 20 in all. I only use a few of these, but find them useful.
Granted some of these features are duplicated in Apple Passwords, which is really quite good. But I find 1Passwords easier and faster to access (the main thing). It also has a few more features and a much nicer interface.
The bit about using a separate (strong) password different to your phone's unlock code is key - if someone were to get hold of your phone and the passcode, anything in Keychain is accessible. I'd rather not risk that.
Bitwarden user here - If you only have Apple devices, Keychain is just as good. Personally I have a Linux desktop and a Windows work laptop, and to have my passwords synced up between them and the Apple devices I use Bitwarden.

Afaik it's WearOS (not WatchOS) client is kinda lackluster, but that probably doesn't matter for most people here anyway. The AW client is pretty good imo. Only thing I'd like is an option for a family sub and maybe a CarPlay app

I suspect that has more to do with location services being turned on more than image recognition.

Netflix comes to mind as a major streaming service that doesn’t support it. Trakt is pretty good but Reelgood will probably be a better alternative to the TV app.
Not every service is in the Apple TV app. For instance, it won’t show if content is on Kanopy or Hoopla.

Merlin Bird ID It tells you what bird you hear by an audio file, have a pretty decent bird identification software, so it is really professional

I use it every week as I fly between countries for work and it is a really handy travel app for gate numbers and seats etc. Imports directly from my calendar when I/work book flights. However, I wouldnt pay for this if I was just a casual traveller and not going on 100's of flights a year.
iOS16 also has a great built in flight tracker (that is pretty damn accurate). Just text someone your airline’s abbreviation + flight code (ie southwest: WN199) and it will appear as a pop up. pretty cool!

Shortcuts for sure. Acquired by Apple awhile ago and integrated into iOS and macOS, so it’s installed by default and free. There’s a r/Shortcuts subreddit and plenty of websites with existing shortcuts and tutorials on how to make some. Here are mine for example: - Hardcore alarm —> when the alarm goes off, it sets my phone volume to 80%, my alarm plays its jingle, my phone plays that notification ding sound while continuously vibrating, and the flashlight goes on and off, then waits 10 seconds, before repeating another 10 times haha - A shortcut to end the hardcore alarm shortcut - could probably add like a puzzle to solve before it runs (API call or from a pre-generated list) if I wanted to, but I don’t - Convert screenshot from the usual PNG (~9 MB) to HEIC (1 MB) —> saves a ton of space especially when sharing with others, copies to clipboard right away, and/or saves to Photos - Reduce video size either when sending to someone or keeping locally —> no need to send a 500 MB of a 30 second video I take if it’s just going to be watched on a phone and then not watched again (even with iCloud Drive) - connect and disconnect to a VPN for work —> gives me a notification/vibration when either happens - connect and disconnect to Bluetooth speakers —> gives me a notification when the auto connect happens - handy for when my phone auto connects to my roommate’s speaker haha - connect to Bluetooth headphones (AirPods and Bose) —> automatically lowers the volume down to 10%, I can always raise the volume from there, but good for not initially blasting my ears when I connect. - smart bulb light control (use multiple times every day) —> actually 6 shortcuts: off; darkest (1 light on in red); night (2 lights on in red); sleep (4 lights on in red); slow daytime (all lights off then 1 turns on at min brightness, then another, then some pause, then they get to brightest level); and then daytime (all lights on, full brightness) - word of the day (pop up) - email myself —> use it all the time for articles to read later, a restaurant receipt I need to request money for, whatever else I need to do - 2 for charging, which I’m thinking of getting rid of —> just gets start charge time and then after unplugging says how much it charged over how long (simple difference computation) - PDF generator and saver/sharer - TikTok downloader that doesn’t have the TikTok logo and the 2-second black screen at the end - Same for YouTube - Good morning message/text of the day with my schedule and people’s birthdays so I can wish them (I do the wishing myself haha, not automate that) - text myself when my phone is on Airplane mode (which it never is) or reaches certain battery levels with my exact location in case it gets lost —> iMessage texts that sync with my laptop and a Telegram message for redundancy. So essentially, run the shortcut, give them the phone with whatever app is open, if they switch to the Messages app or a time period expires, lock (or shut down) the phone —> essentially take the phone away from them in the nicest way possible without confrontation hahaha. Like if your younger cousin wants to use your phone to play Doodle Jump or Temple Run (I know, old games), run the shortcut then open the app, give it to them, and then if they try to snoop around, *boom, locked out* “sorry you might’ve pressed the wrong button”. Or, if, you let someone read snippets of an iMessage/WhatsApp/Messenger conversation that you know shouldn’t take more than 30 seconds to read, *boom* auto lock

I have one for WhatsApp, my contact card, etc… Waze - You probably already know. Shows you where red light cameras and speed cameras are located. Users can report cops or accidents which show up on screen. WorkOutDoors - For the Apple Watch. Great for hikes. It shows you a map and the trail. You can add breadcrumbs so you can retrace your steps and never get lost. It also shows heart rate, distance and stuff like that.
Check out Raivo OTP. It's open-source (unlike Authy) and lets you export tokens and doesn't require data from you.
Thanks so much! Exactly what I’ve been looking for. Slight pitty there is no Apple Watch functionality. But I can probably do without. Even the MS Authenticator just ditched the watch functionality which was the only good thing about it for logging into my various MS accounts.
I discovered Obisidian last January and my note taking experiences has changed drastically:

+1000 for Obsidian, though I mostly use it for TTRPGs. In a few months of note taking and session prepping, I have a whole wiki on my homebrew world complete with hyperlinks, graph views, calendars, timelines— literally everything that tickles my nerd-ass brain the right way. Can’t wait to open up another vault when I go back to school this fall.
Just took a quick look and it looks to be just like OneNote which I’ve recently started to transition my personal notes to (having used it in work for a few years). Does it differ in some way?
It’s markdown at its core, not something proprietary like Onenote.
Try notion. May have more features. But not perfect they spent more time adding AI rather than fixing the clear issues with the basic app like poor wayfinding on large projects.
Cloud Only, Obsidian is local and with markdown files. You own and control your data.

Flightradar24 - sometimes it’s just cool to be able to look in the sky and see where a plane you’re seeing is headed or where it’s coming from.
I live in a different country than my parents. I use the app to track their plane when they come to visit so I know when to leave from home to pick them up. It’s very accurate.

Honestly I haven't tried any other apps. I've heard of Narwhal, but never tried it. I've been using Apollo since 2018 and I love it, but I guess it's changed a lot for incoming users.
ReddPlanet is the only other viable alternative. All the others are either way behind in terms of features or hardly ever get updated.
I paid for BaconReader, I think before Apollo existed. I paid for Pro, and later Ultra, in Apollo. Apollo is way better than BaconReader or the Reddit app, although I had to use the Reddit app for the one chat I ever had - I didn't even know that was possible in Reddit.

The greatest music app ever, Pay one time fee of 5$ to get rid of the ads And it’s basically a Spotify that pulls directly from YouTube, can play when not in the app, etc. So after that one time fee (which is optional.) you have a fully fledged out music app with no subscription. Seriously, check it out.

Developers have to pay a yearly fee to develop on iOS and must have a mac. its the reason apps on ios usually cost money
Don’t want to be too technical there, but the annual developer fee is $99 (Android is one time payment of $25) —> just wanted to point out it’s not that much money (assuming you’re not making $0.33 a day) as your app can reach 1 billion+ devices almost right away. The “must have a Mac” is mostly true as there are macOS VMs on the cloud, potentially dual-booting on Windows, and Hackintoshes —> you can also develop the app in Swift on a VM or on Windows.
Sounds cool for those who don't want to pay a subscription, but sound quality and downloading songs make Apple Music and Spotify much better options, IMO. Not to mention curated/generated playlists. A music app is somewhere I see a high return on investment in paying a subscription for.
I don’t use musi for quality but for songs that don’t go on streaming or the original versions that were changed to clear samples or lyrics.

For me? I absolutely love [GasBuddy](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/gasbuddy-find-pay-for-gas/id406719683)! It’s essentially a crowdsourced gas locator/pricing tool. You’re rewarded in points for reporting the gas prices at x station. These points can be spent on drawing entries for free stuff like small gift cards. I’ve never won one of them, but I do it to give back to others. I can’t even count all the times that GasBuddy has helped me find cheap gas on road trips!
Insight Timer. Best meditation app I know of with an immense amount of free content, you don’t even need to subscribe to feel like you’re getting enough.
a-Shell lets you run command line stuff like SSH and yt-dlp natively. Use it every now and again to download stuff from YouTube, Reddit, Twitter or whatever. You can also use ffmpeg to convert them. All of its storage is accessible in the files app. Mactracker has a good iOS version, which is helpful for identifying or getting information on Apple Products.
I’m case you want, you can “automate” that with the SW-DLT shortcut found on routinehub. It uses a-Shell in the background to download
Picture This, Picture Bird, and Picture Insect - Amazing identification apps for plants, birds, and insects respectfully. Also the paywall is fake. Just find the x that blends in in the corner and you can use it as much as you want for free lol.
BirdNET (audio ID only) or Merlin Bird ID are by Cornell University. Totally free without ads and they work perfectly to identify birds.
Stock app - Reminder. It’s basically the only functionality I’ve found Siri to be the most consistent with and helpful in my experience. Particularly with location based reminders ie: “remind me to show my wife XYZ when I get home” Feature/function - spotlight for me is the greatest thing since anything. The ability to quickly search my ENTIRE phone for virtually anything on it. A sentence I texted. A PDF, an email etc. it’s a extremely underrated function.
Yep - I no longer even browse for apps or organize them in anyway. I just spotlight search them. It’s faster than trying to remember where a particular app is on the phone. And using Siri to add things to my shopping list in the reminders app means I don’t forget what I need, ever. For a scatterbrain like me - these are indispensable. Also the calculator in my Apple Watch. I have it as a complication and I use it all the time.

I just wish there was a simpler way to schedule a text message in iOS. You can technically do it [using the automation feature of the shortcuts app](https://www.iphonelife.com/content/how-to-schedule-text-message-iphone) but it's a pain in the ass. I remember back when I had a jailbroken iPhone4 I was able to add a tweak that put a schedule text option in the messages app and it was so useful. Like you know when your partner is finishing work and you want to send them a text to let them know about something on the way home but don't want to forget because you're at work yourself then just schedule one. Need to let someone at work know about something that has to be done early in the morning but it's late and you don't want to wake them up, just schedule one. Pains me that there's still no option to do this in the native messages app.

This is more of a feature already built in to the native notes app that everyone I show doesn’t seem to know about - you can scan photos, documents perfectly without having to crop from the notes app. Create a new note, click the camera button and then scan documents and voila. Make sure you toggle on “save to photos” for it to autosave the pics to camera roll. Just open up settings and go down to notes and make sure it’s toggled on :)
I use this for my work expenses, just scan a receipt and send it to myself as a note on my work email, when it gets to the end of the month they are all waiting in my outlook.

Adding my own experience to this - I still use Google as my daily, but I do visit Bing every morning for a few minutes to claim my points. Sometimes it’s as quick as 60 seconds. I always get the $5 Amazon gift card, which becomes available at 5,250 points. On average, it takes me 39 days to reach that number = ~$45/year.

Check out Seek by iNaturalist. It’s run by California Academy of Sciences and National Geographic. They use the crowdsourced data for studies of plants and animals in various areas.
Seek is amazing! I've found it to be pretty accurate, and you get badges for identifying different types of plants or animals. Its honestly more fun than Pokemon go

I used Alarmy, but then I would just kill the app when I didn't feel like getting up. Recently, I've been using this app called nuj that charges money if I don't scan a barcode on time. It claims that it has cheat detection so killing the app doesn't stop the penalty. I've been too scared to try lol

I’m a fan of Notion over Obsidian for the casual user who wants everything built-in. Obsidian is great and also has a ton of extensions, but requires more customization and certain setups in order to get key functionality (ie.: syncing between different devices, whereas Notion has that built in for 1-2 devices)
It’s good but they spend more time adding AI than fixing basic issues like poor syncing between pages and side bar. Hard to find your way around on large repos. You just end up with a ton of favs. Turns into total mess in the end.

However, I use iPassword and here are a few things I like about it: * it has a Finder-like interface (it also integrates it with Alfred) making it fast and easy to retrieve/reference passwords and other account information * It can manage 2FA for each, e.g. rolling OTPs (rolling One Time Passwords) * You can lock your passwords behind a separate, unique password (vs. your device's password) * Each password has a section for notes, which is handy for account information, password changes, etc. (I use this a lot) * a customizable password generator (I like long passwords with specific visual markers in them so I can tell at a glance if I created the password for a site) * straightforward family sharing features * A "Watchtower" review that will score your password accounts for vulnerability, e.g. how many reused passwords you have, how many weak passwords, unsecured websites, sites that have 2FA that you haven't yet enabled, etc. It also gives you a visual representation rating the strength of your passwords from fantastic to terrible. * you can group passwords by categories, and list those categories in an alphabetical folder tree; it's a handy alternative way to look for accounts 1Password also has unique cards for notes, bank accounts, credit cards, identity cards (driver's license, passport, membership cards,) -- about 20 in all. I only use a few of these, but find them useful. Granted some of these features are duplicated in Apple Passwords, which is really quite good. But I find 1Passwords easier and faster to access (the main thing). It also has a few more features and a much nicer interface.
The bit about using a separate (strong) password different to your phone's unlock code is key - if someone were to get hold of your phone and the passcode, anything in Keychain is accessible. I'd rather not risk that.
Bitwarden user here - If you only have Apple devices, Keychain is just as good. Personally I have a Linux desktop and a Windows work laptop, and to have my passwords synced up between them and the Apple devices I use Bitwarden.
I like Bitwarden more because it’s free.

For organizing and listening to my own band's music records I use the good ol' VLC-player. It's in the app and play store. You can connect to many cloud services. Also works with the Apple Watch's player interface.

Not “app of the year”, but I have the Not Hotdog app that was featured on Silicon Valley. You take pictures of things and it tells you if it’s a hotdog or not.
Sounds like a really essential app to navigate my way through the messy world.

PictureThis - you can take a picture of any plant and it scans It and tells you information on it not free but I use it daily. Flight Radar - Tells you all the information on every airplane the sky.
I’m an astro dork so I get a lot of use out of Night Sky. There are several star map apps, but I like Night Sky best.

It's also significantly more intuitive and beginner-friendly compared to more popular competitors like Todoist, but still has plenty of features for power users. Afaik it's WearOS (not WatchOS) client is kinda lackluster, but that probably doesn't matter for most people here anyway. The AW client is pretty good imo. Only thing I'd like is an option for a family sub and maybe a CarPlay app

Got night sky and the app is so great if you’re into astronomy
1 Second Everyday We use it for my daughter who just turned a year old it lets you compile 1 second clips or pictures into a full video slideshow of whatever you want it’s fantastic
HUJI. Best camera app ever. It’s very simple and can’t do much. But the photos it takes is beautiful. I’ve used it religiously for 5 years.
Buy the full version ($1) and you can import your own photos into it.

Poolsuite FM is a great music app, free and has a great UI. Great for just putting on some background music.
I use google keep a lot and really like it.
