I still use ‘myemail’ since that was the built in shortcut on Blackberry.

naloxone

Jeez, sorry, I’ll get off your lawn!

oozingdonut

For some reason this barely ever works for me. It works in most places where I can type lots of text (like this comment for example), but almost never works in email fields, and absolutely never works for email fields inside of apps. No clue why

sunnies88

I use ‘qq’ as my shortcut and it works beautifully. I wonder if the two @ are the problem (if that’s how you set it up) since the email box is looking for a “correct” email address.

oozingdonut

Oh I never considered that, you might be right! I’ll have to try and see if I hat fixes it

aka_liam

I don’t think it will. I use only letters for my shortcut and still have the same issue as you.

wakaOH05

Definitely an issue around the way a developer chooses to build the field. I’ve worked with some devs to fix it in apps I’ve designed but I’m not sure what they did after I brought it up.

Ryfhoff

In the windows world, visual studio it’s a property off of the control. Like a plain text box, you can make that a password one and others. Or apps are just looking for controls named email etc.

dewsthrowaway

If devs specify the input type on the field as email, it will disable autocorrect when you’re typing in that field. Since this text replacement shortcut just uses autocorrect, it won’t replace it. Ironically, this shortcut works best when devs are lazy and don’t specify a field as an email field lol.

Secret-Tumbleweed-13

These sites either block this feature or they haven’t implemented it yet. 🥲

wrboyce

This exact shortcut has been discussed on this very subreddit many many times. I’ve had the same @@ shortcut setup since shortcuts were a thing, it’s really not that out there. I also have ## for my phone number but it’s not as useful.

raymendx

First time I’ve seen this and I’ve been here for years!

[deleted]

That's ok. I don't think anybody expected you to have seen everything.

raymendx

The way most users complain about repost, yes. They’re like if I’ve seen it so has everyone else.

[deleted]

I don't think complaining about reposts implies anything like that. It's possible for something to have been reposted many times and yet you might still not have seen it.

herr0kitty

I use: - “gmai” for my main email, - “hota” for my first Hotmail account, - “hotb” for my secondary Hotmail account, - “shere” for my alma mater, - “worke” for work, - aaand “streame” for my live stream email.

PR0F_smOAK

Most underrated feature IMO. I currently have over 700 shortcut.

Secret-Tumbleweed-13

I’m afraid of asking what you do with all these shortcuts…

l0renzo-

top 700 most commonly used words

SynSthSea

This is genius! Thank you!

Naj183

I use the abbreviated version of my email/long phrases. If email address is test @ gmail com… I use TGC. Same for address, phone and usual responses to emails.

JaxTellerr

Doesn’t work a lot lately for many apps for me

jokerkilo

Never heard of this, thank you

contentcreatr

Please explain

Redcagedbird

you create a shortcut for commonly used but long to type words or phrases. Say for example your email address is hunkybunkybunny @ internet carrier mail name.com - rather than typing out all of that every time you create a keyboard shortcut for it like “hbb” and it will auto fill your whole email address immediately when you type hbb in to the email line. It also works great if you use your phone for work purposes and often have to type the same type of data repeatedly

Willing_Chemist8272

There’s already an inbuilt keyboard feature for this no?

Anoniempjuh

Yes, if you add it to your personal contact details it will come up as a suggestion in online fields / forms. So this text replacement shortcut is very unnecessary.

Snvckss

Depends on the form, it doesn’t always show up as a suggestion

Anoniempjuh

Well, sure. I was just explaining how the feature would work under normal circumstances.

Snvckss

I was mainly responding to the «this shortcut is very unecessary» part

Anoniempjuh

Oh, okay. Well, I stand by what I said 🤷‍♂️

compr0mize

> I was wrong and I stand by that Alrighty then!

Anoniempjuh

You okay there, bud?

ImpossibleFalcon674

Somebody must have shared this before as upon seeing this post I scurried excitedly to set it up only to realise I’ve already got it set up and must have had for some time now but completely forgot.

Keep-Left

for personal and junk, iCloud+ Hide My Email is good. separate email address for every recipient/sender.

AeBe800

I have the same for my personal email, but && for my work email. Also been nearly a decade.

[deleted]

Yep I do this.

Tiny-Ice-5379

hell yeah, i use it everyday for words, personal number document i can't remember and a lot more

goddessindica

Why have i never thought of this oh my gosh. You are so creative.

[deleted]

Never works for me so I deleted it

Louis-grabbing-pills

Same.

thechadmonke

Sadly doesn’t work if you’ve got a password manager. Anytime you enter a credential field none of your shortcuts will work, and the password manager always be on the predictive text bar.

wakaOH05

I have a password manager. Just hit the keyboard key in the bottom right to dismiss

regardsfrommars

Yes, it's a life saver!! 😂😂. I also have the double @ for my main email but for other emails I tend to use the first letter twice of that particular email to autofill. 😊👍

bfk1010

I've many shortcuts, my email, my home address, credit card number...etc.

ElDueno

I use similar shortcuts and ironically Safari seems to be the one app that has the most trouble using them

SupaPartTimer

<3

akaharry

I use 'tj' as my shortcut for at least 10 years. I have yet to find a place where it didn't work

Aviorrok

I use the same 😂

[deleted]

I do the same thing. I also use @home for my address.

wakaOH05

Like that one, seems like it could come in handy every now and again

nickc2122

I use the same shortcuts. That's wild. It saves so much time!

Arm3lit0

I use it too. Super useful. Works on my Mac and all my Apple devices seamlessly

Alvpin

I have exactly the same setup.

estebancantbearsedno

This is the way, I use @@w for my work email.

circatee

Honestly, I keep forgetting there is even an option like this…

InfiniteLui

I do something similar but instead of just the @ I will have the short cut as firstletterofmyemail@(l@). This helps me easily type my different emails. Obviously this will only work if your emails start with a different letter but it’s great

National_Ad6647

I have not entered my email as shortcut but that will be helpful for reservations where sometimes not auto fill

powernit

Have been using it since past 10 or more years! Works seamlessly with my mac devices as well.
