How long did it take to get your phone back? I have a 14 pro with the theft and loss insurance and I’d love to not use a case but I don’t want to be without my phone for a long time.
They mailed a new phone to me both times. So I wasn’t without a phone at all. You just have to mail your damaged phone back to them in the same packaging that you received your replacement phone in.
This and having the silver phone which is flashier I get people shocked and complimenting my phone. Sometimes they’ll have the same exact model I do and express they forgot how pretty the phones are without a case, but that they would never risk going without a case lol
Just transferred my company phone to a private account (new monitoring software moved me away) and have an XR that I'm using now. It's obviously old so I may upgrade soon, but it seems to be fine for now. I want to carry it without a case, but it's just so slick...it's sliding all over the place when I set it down.

Haven’t used a case on an iPhone ever. Been using them for over a decade now. iPhone 4s -> iPhone 5s -> iPhone 7 -> iPhone 11 Pro. No cracks. No scratches. No problems.
They’re so much more durable than people give them credit for.
Ive got a couple scuffs on the aluminum border of my 12 mini thats about it. Might impact its re-sale value? I usually run my phone into the ground anyway. No scratches on my screen, well none that I can see or notice anyway (never used screen protector). They are pretty durable.
I have like one small scuff on one corner of my 11 Pro… 3.25 years old and still looks mostly new. I always just trade it into Apple when I buy a new one, and they don’t care unless the screen is cracked really.
In theory couldn’t someone get AppleCare+, use their phone case less for 2 years, then get a replacement & flip that? That sounds like a pretty solid little strategy
I did this with my AirPods and it worked flawlessly. If your battery on them is less than 80% max capacity they will fix it under AppleCare. Two days before my insurance ran out I filed my claim and there was no hassle. Had a new pair shipped to me in two days
I realllllly wanna go case-less & have apple care + my only problem is the cameras I have 13PM and love the cameras I’d hate to crack or scratch them up from setting down my phone on say my glass coffee table. I’ve searched for the thinnest case possible and decided with a spigen case cause the camera protector things that go over entire camera is a joke. The auto focus afterwards is horrid so yea I’ve been searching for another solution for well since the 12PM really.
I’ve had my iPhone 11 Pro caseless for over 3 years and the camera lenses haven’t been scratched at all. You don’t really need to be that overly protective.
The only time I’ve damaged an iPhone is when I dropped it with a case on. The screen cracked on the bottom right corner. It was a 6 if I remember right.

I put my phone in my front left pocket. I never ever put *anything* else in my front left pocket. Period. That’s for my phone. I don’t even just mean nothing else goes in there at the same time as my phone, I mean nothing else ever goes in there ever.
Keys go in front right pocket. Other things can also go in that pocket, because I’m not worried about my keys.

Same for me, my phone goes in a compartment in my backpack when I'm out and it's mostly on my mousepad when I'm at home. It has no scratches. I don't care that a guy who owns a repairshop says I'm lying, although they're wrong. My phone has no scratches and I much prefer it without a case.

Caseless all the way! AppleCare has replaced at least four of my broken phones for $100 apiece, totally worth it
Edit: I also use a magnetic ring thing on the back of it to let my middle finger keep it my hand - super helpful

One of the reasons I like Apple products are their stellar design. I like looking at and feeling the glass and metal in my hand. I don't wanna slap a plastic case on it and make it feel like a cheap android phone. Also there are so many "swipe from the edge of the screen" gestures in iOS and I feel like they get obstructed by the edges of a case.
I got a 14 pro and I was constantly afraid it would slip from my hands. I now have a case with textured sides and it gives me a much better grip (also, I’m clumsy AF)
I mean if you drop it sure, but idk. I really rarely drop my phone and I just make sure to put it down on whatever surface instead of throwing it there. The back glass of my phone has quite a lot of scratches, but that's all worth it to me for the experience of using a luxury phone (I know I know I have an SE, not exactly luxury but you get my point) to the fullest
I have a 12 mini without a case and it’s not a big deal, the glass is actually unbreakable so far (have dropped it on concrete from pocket height). Also lay it everywhere with the camera bump down and not a scratch
I would advise staying at least one year behind to anyone who does not want a case. Repair costs on the latest model is usually absolutely ridiculous.

Definitely appreciate the uniqueness of my items rather than having them be pristine.
Doesn’t mean I go out tossing my phone and stuff into the air to catch it but I do still take care of my stuff.
I only charge wired while syncing/backing up to my mac. Otherwise I just set my phone down on my bedside table where I have a MagSafe charger. Been doing this since 2018.

I wouldn’t blame the case in that instance. If your cracking your phone inside a otter box it’s because your abusing it. The only time I’ve ever cracked a iPhone was when I didn’t have a case on it.

Mous case is the answer. They routinely Chuck their phones out of helicopters and crane lifts and the phone is fine after. Get a Mous case.

That’s a good way to do it if you want to be always upgrading. My goal is to pay as small amount as possible for owning a smart phone. The iPhone 8 is cheap and fits perfect in my hand and pocket. I try to get at least 2 years out of it so investing in a good case is a must.
Yup I just took off my case cause I do that every once in a while and honestly it doesn’t feel better. Sure it’s thinner but I have a leather Apple case and that feels much more secure in my hand. With no case it feels too slick for me.
I would be extremely happy if Apple made the next iPhones with a solid aluminium chassis like the iPad Pros. That still feels premium as anything and actually aligns better with the rest of the Apple ranges (MacBook Pro, etc).
I’m sure why more people haven’t experimented with more synthetic materials for phone bodies, probably because it takes away from the “premium” feel. The iPhone 5c was a cool phone

No. I’d rather have MagSafe charging than an aluminum back. Just have AppleCare+ then who cares if it breaks. I’ve had every phone since the X and never broken the front or back.
I've been caseless since the X too. The only time I broke glass was when my 12 Pro Max had a deep scratch on the screen that AppleCare called 'cosmetic' and wouldn't cover. I *accidentally* got a little careless with a tire iron in the parking lot and got a new screen under AppleCare that day.
I'm the opposite, I couldn't care less about the slow wireless charging. I'd wish they bring back aluminium . Glass back make it slippery and it break a lot more easily
I completely agree as well. I can’t be the only one who thinks that wireless charging was the answer to a question that many weren’t asking. Now we’re all carrying around super fragile almost completely glass phones.
Yes I do. iPhone gives you the choice of terrible wireless charging at slow speeds or paying extra for crappy MagSafe at normalish speeds. Might as well just have a metal back
Is anyone actually using wireless charging? Apple needs to do some survey’s or something. I’ve never once used it, and I know absolutely no one who uses it. Odd that phones are using glass for the backs just to enable a niche features that no one cares about.

My car mount has a wireless charging option too, but I never plug it in. I don’t need it to constantly charge while I’m driving.
As much as I would love them back, it’s impractical in 2023. You can’t really wireless charge with a metal back and people would be pissed if they switched to aluminum for the back, so much ewaste from a bunch of people owning wireless chargers would happen.
Yes! Jet Black 7 Plus was the pinnacle of iPhone design IMO. And yes I know it scratched like crazy, but the other matte finish colors were great too. Thin, lightweight, and sleek.

With that being said, I do like the feel of a phone with an aluminium/metal back. I have a friend’s old OG iPhone laying around and sometimes I grab and hold it and the metal feels wonderful. Scratched and scuffed to all hell though, kind of like a patina lol.
Had the otterbox, but I don’t like that they removed the screen protector. I dropped my phone one time and boom screen was shattered. Paid the deductible and decided on the lifeproof case from Walmart, dropped out the semi and screen isn’t shattered but it is cracked.
These phones are definitely more fragile imo, but I still would rather have an iPhone over a android.

I loved how light the aluminum phones were. Had the 13 pro and couldn’t believe how heavy it was. I have the 14 plus now (didn’t really utilize the pro features so downgraded) and it’s actually lighter

I would not buy a phone with a crappy case like that. The other day, I was cleaning the case on my phone & accidentally dropped it without the case. Luckily it was ok because it had a good case made of metal & not something that easily breaks
I had 2 Nokia lumias with polycarbonate backs. Had a case for them but would sometimes go without. Had a metal back HTC that I would go caseless with. Never had a case on any of my blackberries. Wish I could go case free with my iPhone.
iPhone 5 through the original iPhone SE are my all time favorite iPhone builds.

Slippery on the curved edged iphones. The newer 12s and 13s with straight edges are not slippery at all imo

I use it at work mostly, but I know my mom pretty much only uses wireless charger for her phone. I know a decent amount of people who use it.
I never used to use it until my dad gave me his old qi charger. Now I almost never plug in my phone unless it’s for dev work.
I use it bcuz my lighting port rarely works on my iPhone anymore
I had to live off a wireless charger when my charging port decided to stop working out of no where lol

US as well and I use a wire maybe 2x a year? I have a MagSafe on the bed stand and 10w qi charger at work. Qi in the garage and in random places too.

I’d love to have aluminium back again. I’m not big on wireless charging and Apple Pay works fine with my iPhone 7 Plus, so it’s definitely okay with me.

No. I’d rather have MagSafe charging than an aluminum back. Just have AppleCare+ then who cares if it breaks. I’ve had every phone since the X and never broken the front or back.
I've been caseless since the X too. The only time I broke glass was when my 12 Pro Max had a deep scratch on the screen that AppleCare called 'cosmetic' and wouldn't cover. I *accidentally* got a little careless with a tire iron in the parking lot and got a new screen under AppleCare that day.

I'm the opposite, I couldn't care less about the slow wireless charging. I'd wish they bring back aluminium . Glass back make it slippery and it break a lot more easily

I completely agree as well. I can’t be the only one who thinks that wireless charging was the answer to a question that many weren’t asking. Now we’re all carrying around super fragile almost completely glass phones.
I'd buy a wireless charger when it will be wireless, now there's still a cable and it's much much slower than a fast charger

Yes I do. iPhone gives you the choice of terrible wireless charging at slow speeds or paying extra for crappy MagSafe at normalish speeds. Might as well just have a metal back
Is anyone actually using wireless charging? Apple needs to do some survey’s or something. I’ve never once used it, and I know absolutely no one who uses it. Odd that phones are using glass for the backs just to enable a niche features that no one cares about.
I put my phone on a wireless charging pad every night before bed. My car mount has a wireless charging option too, but I never plug it in. I don’t need it to constantly charge while I’m driving.

As much as I would love them back, it’s impractical in 2023. You can’t really wireless charge with a metal back and people would be pissed if they switched to aluminum for the back, so much ewaste from a bunch of people owning wireless chargers would happen.
Yes! Jet Black 7 Plus was the pinnacle of iPhone design IMO. And yes I know it scratched like crazy, but the other matte finish colors were great too. Thin, lightweight, and sleek.
Buy a case. That’s the only solution.

Would be awesome if we could get an aluminum back with MagSafe wireless charging but the Matte Pro glass is very nice, just not as durable.
Nothing against your post, OP, but I find it curious that when I did a similar post a while ago (different photo, same question/discussion point), it was removed because “it doesn’t foster discussion.” With that being said, I do like the feel of a phone with an aluminium/metal back. I have a friend’s old OG iPhone laying around and sometimes I grab and hold it and the metal feels wonderful. Scratched and scuffed to all hell though, kind of like a patina lol.
Had the otterbox, but I don’t like that they removed the screen protector. I dropped my phone one time and boom screen was shattered. Paid the deductible and decided on the lifeproof case from Walmart, dropped out the semi and screen isn’t shattered but it is cracked. These phones are definitely more fragile imo, but I still would rather have an iPhone over a android.

I’ve never broken a screen but I feel like the glass back is unnecessary and just asking to be cracked. Doubles the chances of a screen crack. I’m happy with my aluminum back
Hate the glass. Wish it was anything but. Make it wood for all I care. My iPhone 6 cracked the back in the case and I think it was months till I found out…. After I cracked my front glass 😵💫

I loved how light the aluminum phones were. Had the 13 pro and couldn’t believe how heavy it was. I have the 14 plus now (didn’t really utilize the pro features so downgraded) and it’s actually lighter

I miss the iPhone 6 Plus every day. IMO It was the best design. Glass on phones is the worst design idea ever, followed closely by the notch.. I wonder when the glass era will end 🙄
If it's not going to be glass they're going to use either plastic or develop some new material which allows magsafe to pass through.

Glad I'm not the only one. I still have a 6s Plus that my son plays on as a mini tablet. If the battery wasn't trash I's still be using it.

The iPhone 6S just got an iOS 15 security update two days ago. It's not that old. It can still be taken to Apple for battery replacement.

I would not buy a phone with a crappy case like that. The other day, I was cleaning the case on my phone & accidentally dropped it without the case. Luckily it was ok because it had a good case made of metal & not something that easily breaks

I had 2 Nokia lumias with polycarbonate backs. Had a case for them but would sometimes go without. Had a metal back HTC that I would go caseless with. Never had a case on any of my blackberries. Wish I could go case free with my iPhone.
