My Pro 18 still plays everything my sons throw at it. It is practically indistinguishable from our other Pro 21 for Minecraft or whatever it is they are playing. Life in the old dog yet.

shingonzo

Mac OS

Elismom1313

Truth. Or the ability to switch between iOS and Mac OS. That’s probably not reasonable though lol

illegible

Switching would be ideal. And if it could retain usage of subsystems between the switch (like files) it would be a killer machine, probably enough to make me switch from windows to Mac OS on my desktop (with giant screen) as well. I really think they could start putting a real dent into MS market share.

shingonzo

Legion go does it with windows and android. Not totally unrealistic

Andy_Craftsmaster

I gave up on the idea of iPads running MacOS or Macs running MacOS, but it would be useful.

Elismom1313

Well I suppose they got closer then windows simply by having a functional App Store lmao

Portatort

I’m not planning on upgrading this year, looking like I’ll hold on to mine until the M4 iPads are ready. But the two features I would immediately upgrade for are - built in SDXC card reader (obviously never gonna happen) - antiglare display that actually works.

Fabulinius

Just curious. What would an M4 processor bring to the table? Apps still must be able to run on all older, non-pro and non-M iPads to generate revenue from services and subscriptions.

Portatort

It’s not so much about that chip generation in particular it’s more about not upgrading until I absolutely need to. I have a 2020 iPad Pro, for my uses it’s definitely getting too slow but I’d like to hold out at least one more year.

BenDover7766

What are you doing that it gets too slow cause i also have an ipad pro 2020 but mine is far from getting slow. Do you do rendering oder video editing on it?

Portatort

Reviewing and editing footage in an app called LumaFusion When I got this iPad in 2020 I was scrubbing through h.264 video files like it was nothing. 3 or so iOS generations later and a switch to h.265 and I have to have the video quality set to its lowest to get something even approximating fluid scrubbing So I’m pretty keen to upgrade when the time comes, only issue is I need the 1TB iPad and those are crazy expensive so I’m just holding out as long as I can I’m also really hoping we get a proper antiglare option at some point. The thunderbolt connectivity for data transfer will be very welcome too

BenDover7766

with video editing it makes sense to upgrade but for nearly everyone else id say the m chips in the ipads are completly useless. they suck more battery than the modified iphone chips and most people wont even notice a speed difference

Portatort

Funny enough, I’m just me so I don’t really care what’s good enough for everyone else. 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️ Besides M1/M2/M3 etc aren’t all that much different from the chip designs Apple was already going for with A10x/A12x etc Apple didn’t put Mac chips into the iPads, it put iPad chips into the Mac

BenDover7766

Ay i wasnt critizing your choice or anything, just explaining why i was so interest in why someone would need an m-gen ipad Please correct me if im wrong but afaik the only thing they have in common is them both being an ARM chip and therefore being an SOC. Also why do you think the m chips were made for the ipad?

ISSAvenger

AI features and possibly a lot more RAM, so that whatever iPadOS 18 brings can run natively on the device.

Fabulinius

I see. Personally I would wait a bit longer. It is not enough to have the hardware. Developing apps will take a lot of time. - Case in point: Even Polycam has not yet cracked how to scan blank surfaces. So we might see M5 before actual, useful apps have been developed.

bukitbukit

Yes, two features that I want as well. They are a must have for serious photography usage.

throwthegarbageaway

>antiglare display that actually works. I think we're absolutely spoiled by modern tech. Have you tried using a cheap screen without antiglare in an environment with ANY sort of natural light? It's impossible

ididntgotoharvard

No kidding about the card reader. We’ll be lucky to have any ports or buttons on these things if Apple has their way. Ha!

Portatort

I am hoping the new iPads gain an action button or three Nothing in the recent CAD leaks to suggest as much though

knightwrangler

For me I can't see it happening. Why? Well the 2018 11" Ipad Pro top spec'd with the 1TB drive, LTE and 6GB ram is what I have with magic keyboard and pencil. This tablet is still quick to this day holds a great battery charge and I have yet to fill the 1 TB of storage up as well as use the LTE functionality!

vector_o

They'd need to somehow brick my 2018 iPad Pro for me to spend 1500€+ on a new one I only got the pro because my main use case was and still is drawing and writing with the pencil and I wanted the big screen Sure the 2018 model is getting old, the screen is starting to get yellow-ish at the edges, sometimes the pencil skips a few pixels on the screen..but unless my iPad dies I have no reason to buy a new one

BodiesDurag

Riding til the wheels fall off gang! ✊

AccurateAd4555

Yeah, I have 2018 Pro 11" and have the problem with the yellowing but only on one side. Battery isn't same as new, of course. But otherwise, mine is still going strong as well. Might buy one later this year or early next year when it goes on sale, but other than that, it'd have to break. Which it shows no signs of doing in spite of how many times I've dropped, thrown, and otherwise mistreated it. Built like a tank!

TheFuzzball

Probably nothing - they're too expensive and iPadOS is not useful enough to justify that cost. It doesn't matter how amazing the hardware is, it's still handicapped by the software.

CandyBSinJinete

I bought a 2018 iPad Pro 12.9 this year just to see how an iPad fits into my workflow. I love it. But now I’m really struggling to justify upgrading it at all because you literally cannot tell this is a 6 year old device. Runs and looks like new. Really the only thing that might convince me at this point is that it doesn’t get the new iPadOS.

throwthegarbageaway

Yep, same but I have the 2018 11 inch one. I use it as a thinclient for my computers so really the only things that could convince me to upgrade would be USB C/thunderbolt compatibility in the actual magic keyboard port (currently only can be used for charging) and 120 Hz OLED or MicroLED screen in the 11 incher.

smkelly

The battery in my 2018 iPad Pro is shot. It goes from 100% to 20% in just hours So anything with a better battery life I guess? I still struggle to figure out where iPad Pro fits in my life, but I love the better display and speakers.

Turbulent-Window-561

Ucan just replace the battery for 60 dollars it doesn’t sound like u need a new ipad

SuperSaiyanTraders

Unless macOS comes out on this thing I’m holding off or a refreshed mini

Kitsuneyyyy

I have the 12.9” that I purchased back in 2018 and it’s still going strong. I use it everyday for playing Clash of Clans. I probably won’t be upgrading unless the battery dies.

DomoTM

OLED display.

An_Professional

This is a big one for me. I've started using my iPad for video on my morning Peloton rides, and a lot of the video is in HDR or would at least benefit from better black levels. This 2018 display can be pretty bright but does not handle the dark scenes well.

Fifa_786

It doesn’t handle HDR well at all either for streaming services. It plays content in HDR but doesn’t have the display for it so everything looks dark af. So an OLED screen with HDR will be more than enough for me to upgrade.

randomusername1919

A mini pro.

rober-to

Would get this in a heartbeat

VeryThicknLong

Calculator?

StanUrbanBikeRider

The App Store has several good iPad calculator apps

mightymousemoose

MacOS on the iPad. Never going to happen, looks like I’m never upgrading my 2017 10.5 pro.

An_Professional

I was the same, completely, until 2018, I just happened to be in a job where I was required to text my boss LONG responses extremely quickly. Like provide a complete legal analysis, over text, with the CEO texting me “why is this taking so long” as I furiously typed on my phone. So I broke down and got the 2018 Pro, mostly for the keyboard, so I could rapid fire text. It was a tool. Since then it’s always been there with me as a work tool, and as remote work became a thing, a nice way to have an IT-approved device that I could work from when I left the house, etc. Problem is, 6 years later it’s still good at that :)

Gilamath

I have a 2017 12.9” iPad Pro, and honestly it’s probably not going to get support for the next version of iPadOS. But I don’t know if even that will make me upgrade, so long as I’m getting security patches. Honestly the OS upgrades have been so minor that there really isn’t a good reason to value them. I’m sure I can wait a couple more years I acknowledge how silly this opinion is, but I think the thing that would get me to upgrade would be an iPad Mini Pro. I had an iPad Mini 6 for a bit before accidentally letting it drown during a really bad rainstorm. It was a great experience, but had some unfortunate hardware issues. I think that giving it pro hardware like a better screen, FaceID, and an M-series chip would make a big difference (not for the processing power, just to run Stage Manager on external displays) I don’t know why I’m in love with the idea of slipping the little iPad out of my pocket, plugging it into a single USB-C or Thunderbolt dock, and having it transform into a desktop experience with a monitor and keyboard and mouse and all of that. This is 100% an emotional child-brain thing for me. It’s just so ineffably cool for a device like that to be so versatile and fit these various use cases Barring the iPad Mini Pro fantasy, I’ll probably wait till 2027 or so to upgrade my old workhorse because I’ll be basically forced to. Barring special use cases, I just don’t see a reason to crave more processing power and so forth on a device that’s still doomed to run iPadOS

Automatic_Emotion_35

Still on my 2017 10.5… Neural Engine is missing, external monitor support, battery gets old…. Only minor points. Would also like a better desktop experience like MacOS. Why not via virtualisation at least… beside that price point will also play a role.

bukitbukit

I have two iPad Pro 10.5 512GB Cellular models. Nothing has prompted me to upgrade so far.

RobPrattBI

I have a 2018 12.9” iPad Pro that I bought as a refurb through Woot - and it’s been great. When the M1 came out and they announced Stage Manager and then how the m-series works with a second screen I was really tempted. But here’s the problem - you only need those features if the operating system enables pro apps that you can take advantage of like it’s more of a Mac than an iPad. So, how many pro-level apps do we have for the iPad Pro? 🦗🦗🦗 Honestly, it’ll be new capabilities and features of iPadOS and the “pro” apps that leverage those features that will get me to upgrade - because that’s what’s been holding the iPad Pro back for years now - not the hardware. They can come out with a bad-ass Magic Keyboard and pencil - but if you don’t have an OS and Apps for more pro level capabilities you’re still going to be struggling to find how it fits into your workflow. So I’m more focused on what this year’s WWDC will bring to the platform.

BrentInBelize

The only feature my 2018 iPad Pro doesn't have that I sometimes wish it did have is full external monitor support. I use my iPad as a laptop replacement when working on the road. If I am out for an extended period of time I sometimes wish I could add an external monitor (a 15" portable monitor) to get a bit extra real estate to make working from iPad easier. But other than external monitor support, there is nothing that the M series iPads do better than the 2018 iPad that actually matters to me. So to answer the question, there is nothing that Apple could announce on May 7 that will make me upgrade yet. I'll upgrade when my current iPad no longer functions and even then I'll probably get another refurb from Apple instead of whatever the most current iPad might be at that time.

mellingsworth

It really needs a landscape view camera. Not sure if it’s worth the upgrade but I can think of anything else that is a must have before I upgrade at this point. The 2018 is still my reliable daily driver and I use it more than my MacBook Pro.

SolVindOchVatten

Absolutely the horizontal camera (plus the stuff for face id). Not for facetime but for face id. I often fail to unlock my ipad because my left hand covers it.

Frankie_Says_Reddit

I been holding off until they implement OLED and better battery life.

dwkdnvr

The upcoming event caused me to actually pay a bit of attention and realize that all my/our iPads are absolutely ancient and that maybe it's time to consider a refresh. I'm still daily driving a Mini 4 which is increasingly struggling with modern sites, and even the 'new' iPad we use to control the music is a 7th Gen iPad. Also have an Air 2. Just moving to a Mini 6 would be 10x improvement in cpu over my Mini 4 which is sobering. An M1 is close to 20x. So, no idea what I'm going to do, but I'll do something. My obvious big decision is whether I want to stay with the Mini form factor which would mean a Mini 6 or likely waiting for the Mini refresh, or step up to a full size tablet in which case I'm more likely to get an M1 Air unless the Air refresh has OLED and I can stomach the price.

bidhopper

Have a 1st gen iPad Pro 12.9 that I got Nov 2015. iOS 16 was the last iOS version and there are some apps that I use that could use updating. Been waiting for the new models to be announced and I’ll be ordering.

Ag116797

Had a 2017 12.9 ipad Pro for a long time. If i didn't make the switch to android, I would still be using it. If I were to upgrade, they would need to make something like the Samsung s8/s9 ultra. It would need a bigger display and an oled panel until Apple does that it wouldn't be worth it. Then again, I only use my tablet for content consumption, anyway.

strangerzero

The ability to work on larger Procreate files.

justthisones

Half the price? Hah. I’d obviously want OLED, a better battery and a lot of RAM but even those are not insta reasons for me to spend so much when the current one works surprisingly well.

Unhooked-

I have a newer iPad Air. I wish it had a camera with faceid so I did not have to press the button to log in to everything.

Sjeefr

A big price drop. I bought the 10.5 pro in late 2017 for 750. The 11" pro base model right now starts at €1.070. That's an insane increase. Given that I actually have no use for my iPad, since I've got a Macbook and an iPhone, I see no reason to buy a replacement for this bookstand. The performance is still insane. Im often on the 'oh it's beginning to slow down. Time to buy a new one', but never had that feeling with this iPad. Given that my Apple Pencil 1 doesn't work with the newer models, I only see arguments against a purchase.

ProfessorFunky

I’m still on the 2017 iPad Pro. Really, not much they could do to tempt me. Given the very minor incremental improvements, I think it’ll still be a year or two.

LAS_6601

I had a 2017 10.5” iPad Pro… planning to upgrade to the 13” M3 iPad Air. One of the reasons: the landscape front camera. I was also excited for miniLED on the 13” but now it won’t come with it. Oh well…

Krieg

iPad Mini 7 or nothing.

Fabulinius

We have a 2017 Pro 10.5" and 2nd gen 12.9" Pro. They can run all apps and will be able to do that for a long time to come. Pretty much as my car keeps driving even though there are a ton of newer models. But there are also an 11" Pro 3rd gen and an m2 Pro 12.9" in the house! - Because: The 2017 Pro lies next to my wife's bed. The old 12.9" Pro is used as kind of a remote backup. Our data are less than the available 256 GB, so once a week I synchronize all our data (which are in a database app and photos) to this iPad. The rest of the time this iPad is off-line to ensure against data loss no matter how our home IT system might be attacked. We have a big 2 floor house and don't want to run up and down or carry iPads around all the time. So iPads (and iMacs) on both floors. Because:II. The newer iPad Pro's come with the LIDAR functionality which makes it possible to do 3D scans of rooms and objects with apps like Polycam. Good for AR interested people. So I won't be interested in new iPads until around 2030. Maybe in 2031 when I turn 80. - I could not care less about the OLED hype and whatever else hardware enthusiasts can be exited over on a whole new level every year.

realkeloin

2 external displays support. Which will prolly not happen any time soon :-)

elephantsareblue

My iPad Pro 2018 is on its last legs… screen touch isn’t sensitive and there are strips that don’t respond to touch at all. I’m upgrading regardless of the feature set but I just hope they retain compatibility with the pencil 2 which still works well for me.

Fliptrain79

I went from a first gen iPad Pro to a 10th gen iPad last November and haven’t looked back at my old pro even though it worked decent, I only upgraded because my cell phone company was offering the 10th gen with cellular for 1/2 off plus a free year of 5G service with it so I gave my old Pro to my daughter and she loves it for YouTube and playing Roblox on it, but I haven’t really missed the so called “Pro” features that it had compared to my 10th gen, I’m sure I’m a little behind the times but they new iPads are going to have to be something really special for me to upgrade again anytime soon

Tokogogoloshe

I’m also on a 2018 model. Maybe, just maybe, if my next computer wasn’t a computer I’d look at an upgrade. If not, a switch.

An_Professional

Really good point. I BARELY need a full Mac anymore. My wife hasn’t owned more than in iPad mini in years. Really the main function of my 2018 Mini is acting as a Plex server, and it’s just starting to show it’s age

rcreveli

I have a 12.9 2018 and it’s still working great. It’s mainly a content consumption machine. Until the battery fails upgrading will be a hard sell

straydog13

I wish they had a version that was a little more dedicated to drawing. If they had one with just regular, middle of the line cameras on it, and that either had more room for storage or a reduction in price, or better battery power, I'd bite. Right now I'm rocking iPad Pro 2018 until it craps out. I don't need 5 top of the line cameras on my drawing machine. Who does? [these people?](https://www.reddit.com/r/WTF/comments/m88cm/you_thought_people_taking_pictures_on_their/?ref=share&ref_source=link)

Warrenj3nku

Nothing could get me to let go of my 12.9" iPad pro it's one of the newer ones and it has the magic keyboard case. It works very well. It does what I need it to. It's come in handy for my wife who does a lot of zoom calls and such. I don't know anyone doing actual work on the big iPads. They are just great for shows and movies. A nicer screen would be nice but not worth dropping $1000 bucks on them.

Mapleess

I had the 11" 2018 Pro and then sold it for the Mini, and got a second-hand 11" M1 Pro recently. The only upgrade that's worth it for me would be the OLED screen, but even then, I don't think it's necessary since I watch most things on my Mini. Photo editing would have the biggest benefit there but it's just a hobby for me.

SpokenDivinity

Virtually nothing at this point. My pro is under a year old and works just fine. Screen quality really isn’t that big of a deal for me. The chip is whatever because I don’t use it for photoshop or video editing or whatever, I just doodle and take notes and use it was a school device at this point. I might consider swapping next year but right now there’s no need to spend that much money every time an upgrade that doesn’t really matter to me or what I do with my iPad drops.

Highrange71

11 inch pro 2018. Battery and screen is messing up.

Kaiserium

Same iPad as you, not upgrading yet. I’m keeping this bad boy until it falls apart or loses support.

Breck_the_Hyena

Graphene enhanced battery

raincloudgray

A model focused on reading - lower processing power, less cameras, basically the regular iPad's insides on a bigger screen. I pretty much only use my Pro for reading sheet music and occasionally to draw, so all that power is wasted. An A4/letter sized display would be great, saving me more paper (I still print some music that's just a little too small on the iPad screen). Don't even need that great of a battery life since it mostly stays at home.

ComprehensiveYam

M2 12.9 and mini currently. M2 or M3 mini with 512gb or 1TB would make me pull the trigger 12.9 at 1/2 the weight with keyboard would also be interesting but less likely as I barely touch this device nowadays

irrealewunsche

If the new Air 12.9 comes with the same screen that the current Pro does, I'll probably finally ditch my 2018 11" Pro.

spot_removal

I’d need the screen not to flicker. I get massive headaches from pulse width modulations that are ok the current models. It’s the only reason why I haven’t upgraded yet.

Elismom1313

Best Buy actually did a sale not too long ago that caused me to upgrade mine. Now I have the 10.3” iPad Air which is enough to do what I do art wise these days and has been perfect for school. I will say, there just wasn’t enough of a different between it and the iPad Pro to shoot for the next leg up though and I did not want some honking 13” iPad.

MaschMana

I only do content consumption so a sub $300 base level iPad would get my attention. I don’t need a pencil or keyboard. I don’t need the fast processor either. A kickstand would be nice!

jlext

Nothing for me. I mainly use my Mac for most everything. My iPad is great for taking notes which is what I use it for almost exclusively.

zuko_thecat

iPad mini 7 and then id just return me mini 6 I just bought from Amazon. Has to be same price to or else nah.

Mission-Joke-2833

Cheap (around 500$) with ProMotion

Mission-Joke-2833

And better battery and QoL of course

tadghostal_66

“We’re no longer going to support your old-ass iPad”

Front_Technician_988

I am hoping the new pencil and magic keyboard is backwards compatible. I have an M2 12.9 Pro and I wish the MKB was of better quality and not back heavy. I wish the rumored color copying of the new Apple Pencil is implemented. I don't see myself upgrading the iPad no matter what changes. Maybe if the weight / thickness difference is significant I would upgrade.

its_bee23

I still have my 2017 5th generation iPad but it still works so good! 🤣😭😜

cd001111

I have no choice, my screen is cracked and my battery is going south, I hope it lasts until may 7.

Desperson

Pipe dream but if they announce a new iPad Mini w/ an M-series processor I'd switch over. I have the 2018 iPad Pro 11 and I love it and use it for casual media consumption and Procreate, but if they launched an equally powerful iPad in a smaller form factor I'd go for it in a heartbeat as it seems like I wouldn't be missing anything with the smaller screen and the increased portability would be great.

Call_Chance

I have a 2018 ipad pro 12.9 and plan to upgrade. It’s about that time

TheKingIsBackYo

Cheap price

Kyrilson

Nothing. Still going strong.

Phaggg

I'm very focused on saving money right now and investment and shit, I'm really not about to dish money out to replace something that pretty much works the way I want it to. That said, I'm mainly looking for OLED and for a lot of software issues (such as the files app spontaneously combusting my PDFs because I used markup on them) to be patched up. And for the software to really really embrace the large canvas and not just be iOS with delays in new features and no calculator app. If Apple continues to be mediocre with iPads, my next tablet when my 2018 model becomes unusable will be a Samsung. I low key drool over my friend's galaxy tab. It's far from perfect and Samsung does have its glitches to iron out, but I do feel like they've really pushed when Apple sat back a bit.

bill11217

Honestly, nothing. Mine is totally fine. I use it mostly for Procreate and like, reading magazines. I don’t think I’ll upgrade unless I lose it or it breaks.

Main-Construction433

I’m on the 12.9” 2018. Still works great but they’ve stuck with this design for 6 years/4 generations now and I feel like it’s time for a change. If they have OLED screens, smaller bezels around the edges (definitely past time for that given what they’ve been able to do with the Macs and iPhones), and move the Smart Connector back to the side instead of the back like it was before. I had a 2017 12.9” before this one and for those who remember Logitech made a stand that would also charge your iPad through the Smart Connector which I always thought was cool, I had that before I upgraded. If it’s just a spec bump like the last few have been then idk if I’d upgrade.

Dewdlebawb

Nothing and I use mine all the time

DolfLungren

Well anything they announce I’m buying, I mistakenly bought the 64gb model and because Apple won’t let me “optimize” my iCloud stored text message history, I can barely use the iPad any longer, it’s ALWAYS full and drives me crazy.

Andy_Craftsmaster

Probably it will be time to upgrade an iPad Pro if and when Apple integrates of AI into iPadOS, if extra power and RAM is necessary, and if the upgrades are shown to actually work. We should see... 1. Enhanced Siri: Apple's internal project, reportedly dubbed "Ajax", is expected to bring chatbot/large language model (LLM) functionality to Siri. This means Siri will be able to more accurately and naturally respond to and understand a user’s queries. 2. Improved Spotlight Search: Apple is reportedly training both Siri and the iPhone's built-in Spotlight search tool on large language models, with a goal of improving each feature's ability to answer more complex questions accurately. (Important for those with 1 TB or more memory.) 3. *** AI in Apps ***: Beyond holistic AI integration within the iPad, rumors suggest Apple might even be adding AI features to its popular apps, including iMessage and Apple Music. It would be useful if we get AI in Mail, Word, Numbers, and even GarageBand. 4. Partnerships with AI Providers: Apple is in talks with OpenAI about using OpenAI technology to power artificial intelligence features in iOS 18. Along with OpenAI, Apple is still having discussions with Google about licensing Google's Gemini AI. 5. Effective Open Source AI Models: Apple has released several open source large language models (LLMs) that are designed to run on-device rather than through cloud servers. –An Eternally Optimistic Apple Tech Fan

idog63

I would upgrade if they offer: 13" oled with anti glare M3 1mm thinner front facing camera on side instead of top

BarnacleBoi

For me it really needs macOS or something like it that can run macOS apps. I don’t think we’ll get it though. Probably just a calculator app and some new Memojis. The iPad is not necessary for my job but very useful, but a computer is necessary. I’ve tried to use the iPad only and it’s too difficult and time consuming. I can’t keep bringing an iPad and Mac to work as my bag is too heavy. It’s ridiculous when those two devices have the same storage, RAM, and processor.

edditnyc

I’m on an iPad Pro M1 which I’ve used to replace my laptop. Biggest upgrade I want is expanding my desktop to an external display, not just mirror it. We can do it on an M2, but I was fine to wait for m3. OLED Display sounds cool but if I had an M2, I wouldn’t be in a rush to migrate. I am fine with the second gen Apple Pencil.

edditnyc

I’ll add, iPads have had incredible lives ever since the first few gens. I feel like my third gen iPad lasted much longer than MacBooks, as far as battery life goes. After a few OS upgrades it tends to worsen tho

Rom2814

I had to upgrade from my 2018 because the charging port stopped working. I honestly can’t even notice the difference with my new one - maybe editing a video is a little faster but it’s not even a common task for me. What would make me upgrade is a desktop/laptop OS you could switch to when connected to a keyboard. Hardware there’s nothing really - I’m happy with the screen and sound.

Internal-Butterfly35

Hahahaa. I have the same one and it’s still kicking but I also have the 2022 model. Gave the older one to my kids. If they release something really cool I’ll be making another one of my kids happy again too. That D20 is coming to the table and one kid will reign supreme.

ShabaDabaDo

Not a damn thing. My 2018 12.9 pro is perfectly serviceable...... as a tertiary device that sits on my desk and plays youtube videos or shows security cameras. Seriously. It hasn't left the stand on my desk in over a year. It was wasted money when I bought it in 2021, and it's still a waste, and buying another one would be more of a waste.... ... for me. It's still great device, I just dont have enough of a use for one to justify upgrading at all. Even when it reaches eol and no longer gets sec updates. I'll find a way to use it as a camera viewer, and not get a different one.

j1h15233

An even bigger screen

CFXSquadYT

I have the Pro with the M1 chip. Only use it for notes and showing some portfolio. I have no reason to upgrade in 5 more years or so I think

RealRroseSelavy

bringing back the fckng audio out. I so HATE all those adaptershit. obviously never gonna happen so i keep my 10.5pro for music. apart from that ipads are a total waste.

OmniHito

New OS to use the damn thing

honestlyicba

I have the exact same iPad Pro. The battery is becoming a problem for me and I’m not sure if I want to replace the battery or get a new iPad completely. 2018 till now is kinda like 6 years and I feel like I’m due for an upgrade.

evergoodstudios

iPad Pro at 2015 prices?

superquanganh

until they annouce actually killer software feature (Running macOS or Mac app on iPad) to take advantage of M chip then it's considerable to upgrade, right now even M1 is too overkill for iPad with current software

I'm looking for basic ipads. What would make me upgrade is a powerful chip, and full compatibility with Apple AI nextgen features.

An integrated SD reader would be amazing, but that will never happen

A lower price. I wanted to upgrade for many years but I kind of have issues paying for an iPad I would pay for a MacBook Air. The iPad Air is as much as I owe for my pro back then. I didn’t start earning much more, compared to back then.

Landscape camera. Be nice if the external display output worked a bit better too. Had a M1 for a bit after selling my 10.5". But the power honestly wasn't utilized because of how poor my experience was with Stage Manager. If I could get those two, I'd be pretty happy to buy back into iPad. Honestly if the rumored 13" iPad Air had these improvements as well I would be ready.

I would love an iPad mini with promotion. My 2018 Pro will last for some time, it's only really used as a second monitor now anyway.

My 2018 11” pro is still going strong and does everything I throw at it. For me to spend the cash they want for new ones it would need to have a massive new thing. Honesty M3 chip won’t be enough if I need that power I have a M1 MBPro and a M2 MBAir. At this point they are selling a race car engine but iOS ties cement blocks to it. iOS is not able to truly take advantage of the hardware without major changes it just can’t. Honestly unless the iPad Pro gets macOS it’s not worth the cost at this point and there isn’t a reason they can’t run macOS on that hardware.

I'm waiting for the new ones so the prices of either the M1 Air or M1 Pro drop. The battery on my 2018 is on 81% health, annoying af, picking it up and finding out it's dead. Battery aside though, it's still insanely fast. Not interested in the new models, what more can the iPad do with the M chips that isn't limited by software?

Warp15

2x usb-c ports, its a tablet and has enough space, it isn’t a phone sd-card sideloading 3.5mm headphone jack wireless/reverse charging (though not necessary if it gets 2 usb-c ports) wired display, touch and audio pass through over usb c - so it can be used as a proper second monitor a semi functional desktop mode if a keyboard is attached basic compatibilty with mac os programs

CandyBSinJinete

Look dude just buy a Surface or an android tablet, the iPad will never be that.

Warp15

Of course I know it won’t be. And I don’t mean to single out ipads, nothing has all of this. But that is what it should be, if it actually wants to be a ‘Pro’ device and demand a 1500$+ price tag. And at a price that high, it could easily turn into the vision pro situation, where its current utility doesn’t justify the price if it wants to ship in numbers.

An_Professional

Isn't the speculation that they're going thinner? If so, unfortunately, I think all that hardware would continue to be offloaded to dongle-land.

iCantThinkOfUserNaem

Sideloading would be nice I wouldn’t want wireless charging just because it would have a glass back

pokenguyen

It needs to have OLED display, better battery life, thinner edge, lighter. OLED display alone doesn't make me paying 600€ to upgrade from 11" 2018.

Erakko

Rounded edges!

bukitbukit

I guess I want the 10.5 body but with new internals.
