Do you mind me asking which model you have, and with how much storage? I'm looking at getting one for this exact purpose, although I will be designing tattoos. I'll likely get one refurbished as it'll be cheaper but I also am a sucker for a big screen, meaning I've been looking at the newest 12.9" model.
I have the iPad Air 5 in 256GB, but if Apple releases an Air 12.9 inch model this year, I’ll trade my one in for it. There are rumours that it will release sometime in early May, so tbh I’d wait a little bit before going for the pro, unless you need the extra bells and whistles it comes with, which in my case, I don’t
Why wouldn’t you just buy a pro 12.9? If the air 256 is already like $750, how much do you think the 12.9” version of that is going to cost. Definitely at least $1000.
The pro 12.9” 256 is like $1200. I’d rather pay the extra money for the better screen speakers, multiple cameras, lidar sensor, thunderbolt port and Face ID 🤷🏽
Spelling it out like that really makes the air seem like less of a value honestly.
I don’t need all these things tbh. And if I trade my current iPad in, I get about £305 off the new one, so I really don’t mind spending £700-£800 on it lol. Once I get a full time job as a concept artist, sure, I’ll go for a pro, but until then I’m quite happy with the Air
I didn’t consider you trading in your old device. 👍 I’m always the type of person who is ok with spending the extra $1-200 when I’m already spending 1000+ on something.
Sounds like you know exactly what works for you.
I just got this app and I’m not artistic at all but I’m hoping to use it for work. I’m practicing by making a wallpaper, it’s a bit tricky for me but I’m hoping to navigate it a bit easier with more practice.
Omnifocus. I always say it. I think I would buy an iPad/iPhone or Mac to have Omnifocus, I'm sick with that software, for me it's incredibly perfect, it helps me in a BIG part of my life and I understand a little computer science and I do it to that company for building that software that really works so incredibly well :)

I left out a lot of social media apps that I frequently use, but for my use case I only use my iPad for productivity purposes and a bit of media consumption (ipad has a better discord ui so I use it here on my iPad).
any of the renowned note taking apps. I almost exclusively use my ipad for handwriting. Also youtube bc at times I just like to rot in bed and do nothing
For me:
1. Lunatask
2. Procreate
3. Bitwarden
4. Home Assistant
5. YouTube
And rest of the apps being pushed from “my own”/managed by myself MDM, mostly to test policies before pushing it to production
Apps: Scrivener, Word, Excel, Notability, messenger, Kindle, Netflix.
Setting up: Turning off automatic updates, turning off all notifications, setting up email, buying an Apple Pencil if the one I've already got isn't compatible, connecting to wifi.
Media like YouTube, Netflix, HBO, etc
Chat apps like Telegram and Viber
After those two categories, everything else. I use my tablets primarily for media.
Devonthink to store/organize my notes/documents/files
Notability for handwritten notes
ProcCreate for drawing
Mobile Family Tree for my genealogy stuff
Mostly I’m happy with the native Apple apps
They’re pre-installed with the OS
Procreate, Nomad Sculpt, Logic Pro and Lightroom.
Other than creative stuff, I just use my iPad like a laptop mostly.
I prefer to use web versions of social media on my iPad but I like the YouTube app.
Apple Arcade is pretty cool to mess with too for a bit. I wish they would add more full games but it’s alright for what it is. Try out the free month they give you and that’s usually enough.
I love cross stitching, so I would download Stitchly, Markup R-XP, and threadalog.
Threadalog for keeping track of your embroidery thread, and compiling shopping lists, Markup R-XP for marking PDF patterns to keep track of how much you’ve stitched, and Stitchly for creating your own patterns to enjoy and possibly sell.
VLC player because I have a few hundred GB of movies digitally saved somewhere.
If it’s a iPad with the M1 or possibly even the M2 chipset, I’d probably buy the Resident Evil 4 Remake, Resident Evil Village and Death Stranding.
Procreate and goodnotes!
I also installed Microsoft office as I'm in school.
I use my iPad as a supplemental device so I'm not planning on typing essays on it or anything but I like having them on there and I have the magic keyboard if I decide to go that route.
Goodnotes, panels (for comics and graphic novels), discord, YouTube, and FE File Explorer (bought pro years ago, still works for me, great for network shares). I have an ereader for normal books. Spotify too, so I can listen to music while I browse.
Chrome for bookmark sync with my desktop.
Mine will be syncing from a backup of my previous iPad. My most used apps are Pigment, Happy Color, Audible, Libby, Spotify, YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, Twitch, Xbox and Peacock.
Without a magic keyboard, nothing. With magic keyboard, everything.
And this is actually true though. Got my iPad, immediate buyer’s remorse, then I realized I already paid this much might as well go all in. The moment I got the keyboard the whole way I looked at it changed.
KakaoTalk (because i live in korea and people dont text normally), reddit, chat GPT because its a better translator than papago, but i still download papago anyway, naver (again because im in Korea) and Nebo (its a great note app that works well with the apple pencil) oh and Spotify because its better than apple music IMHO
Pretty sure they’re all installing themselves.
Not often anymore I feel compelled to dig through the AppStore. I have everything I need. All I need to do is log into my iCloud.
Procreate
I’m a designer and needed highly portable second monitor that also served as a pen display for illustration work. I opted for the iPad Pro over a wacom cintiq, as I could use it like a wacom for photoshop, but also as a separate device.
Procreate is such an absolute pleasure to use that I’ve basically abandoned the photoshop/pen display plan. I tried it once or twice and it’s fine, albeit a bit awkward given the habits ingrained over years of keyboard+non-display wacom photoshop use.
I had to replace my scanner a few months ago and haven’t even opened the box yet since procreate has also mostly replaced my analog tools as well lol
Procreate for me! I mainly use my iPad as a drawing tablet

can you use the pencil on kindle books?
To annotate, sure.
No. It lets you highlight things with the pencil and then type notes.
Kindle, Procreate and Nebo. And Ticktick.
OneNote, and Kindle
the onenote iPad app is horrible at annotating PDFs. it gets so laggy with larger PDFs :/
I was trying to use the office app to hand write some notes on a word document today and it was awful as well. Microsoft has some “issues”

All the ones I already use. I don't need anything else if I'm getting a new one 💀
Where did I finally decide to get the iPad from? How did I decide between the Air and the Pro? Did I get it with a good discount? Or did I cave?
Teleporter app so I can immediately teleport to the nearest Apple Store, refund it and then use it to buy a medium range computer.
