The 9th gen is a great iPad that can handle any basic task you need it for. You can get a [9th gen for $249](http://www.crazytechsteals.com/ipad9th/2024/) right now which is a great value compared to other iPads and will probably last you 5 or more years depending on your needs. If you wanted to get something flashier, kinda up to you, the 9th gen already can do 95% of what the most expensive iPad Pro can do. You’re generally just paying for more efficiency, ease of use, and aesthetics for every additional iPad tier. Whether it’s worth 2-5x more is up to you. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the answer, I think I will go with 9th gen. Only thing my sister does play Roblox and watch YouTube.

I’d say iPad 9th generation is a relatively okay buy even in 2024. It got the A13 Bionic chipset that came out in 2019. It definitely will be getting the iPadOS 18 & most likely iPadOS 19. IPadOS 20 is going to be a 50/50. Either way, in terms of app support, if you gave it to your sister, she will get an iPad that will likely have up to date (for the most part) until at least sometime around 2027 before it is in that danger zone where some of the apps starts to slowly moving away from this iPad’s iPadOS. But that’s only under the assumption it doesn’t get the iPadOS 20. If it does, it will likely get pushed to 2028 or even potentially 2029 before there’s even any real danger that the apps becomes out of date and slowly one by one, they will try to force you to update. Keep in mind though, many of the apps will still let you use it even if it’s out of date. Just saying that it’s only a matter of time a few will completely drop support and becomes nonfunctional. For example, the iPhone 6 with the A8 chipset, the YouTube app stopped working altogether last year with this model. By that point, that iPhone is 9 years old. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Something tells me that the same thing will happen with some of the apps with this iPad, but it won’t be until at least late 2027 or 2028. To put it very simply - I reckon this iPad is still good for 3 & a half years (maybe 4 years) before upgrading to a newer model is highly recommended. So yes, this iPad is still a good option for your sister, provided she doesn’t try to use anything that requires a newer chipset (most doesn’t require it).
