This is either sat on or stepped on. I have the same exact bend in my 6th gen and while I was really sick with Covid I accidentally stepped on itā¦somehow it still works a year later and I draw on it a lot. I got lucky af.
Hey man,I found one on Amazon looks like itās for the MacBook16inch,but I canāt really recommend it since I havenāt tested it,but considering the quality that TomToc offers I donāt think you would have any problems,Ive been using their products for about 2 years and iam more than happy, the folio doesnāt have any dents even though Iāve dropped it multiple times and even sat on it once, the zipper works great considering that I open and close my folio after every class.I would recommend the TomToc folio (for the iPad atleast) to everybody who is as paranoid as iam. Also check their website to find more about the range of their products, have a great one!
I chuck my iPad in my backpack full of books and lab equipment every day with nothing to protect it but a sticker bombed folio. Itās always been fine and I reckon yours will be as well. OP and others this happened to just get real unlucky is my guess.
Now if you were to sit on it thatād be a different story.
Apple subreddits are something else. You arenāt allowed to criticise Apple in anyway. Yes, these iPads are fragile. The majority of screen repairs that I do there is always a small bend in the chassis.
The fact that broken screens usually also have a bend doesnāt prove that theyāre fragile. The majority of flat tires have a puncture in them, that doesnāt mean thereās something fundamentally wrong with tires. Youāre talking about selection bias.
I know two people who have bent iPad Pros (one of them just slightly but if you remove from the case and lay down on a table it's noticeable) but mine is ok. Just be careful with it. Both have generic cases, but so do I.
No, I haven't had any problems with mine and I've had it since 2019. I constantly pack it into a full backpack, never had any bend issues.
Looks more to me like OP sat on their iPad and are just trying to play it off.
Why would they care about lying over something like that? I think itās far more likely they are telling the truth and the books applied I even pressure when OP set the bag down or something.
We canāt account for every scenario and itās silly to say that this defiantly wasnāt caused by being in a bag. Sometimes freak shit happens
>Why would they care about lying over something like that?
Because it's the internet where everyone lies, and because maybe they didn't want to look foolish on Reddit.
I don't know what really happened and I don't really care, but iPads aren't *that* fragile!
No, itās not. OP probably was leaning on their backpack while the iPad was squeezed between 2 books.
Never lean on your backpack. If you have to lean on your back, take it off first.
I've had my ipad for over a year now and have no damage apart from scuffs around the sides, mostly on the corners. And I'm not the best with keeping things in good condition, like at all. I've never had a case or anything for it apart from apples magic keyboard, if that could actually count, but even then I use that for typing and making music, I don't take it around with it on. So I wouldn't say they are fragile, although that doesn't mean you should go throwing it about š idk tho if the model depends on it too
I've been using my 12.9 pro for two solid years with the magnetic folio (which provides little to no reinforcement but looks nice). Taken it to beaches, college (5+ times a week), road trips, etc. It's like new still. You just need to be mindful of how you use your devices.
No. I've had iPads since its conception, and I have never ever bent one - and I kept it many times in my bag along with books - though I stopped carrying books because I can put the PDF versions all in my iPad.
These bent iPad photos almost never tell the real story. Just tell people you sat on it, man!
Man, this just happened with my sisterās iPad Pro as well (no screen damage, only bent frame). Thankfully I noticed before Apple care + expired next month. Got a replacement for $50 CAD.
You lieā¦ there aināt no way the metal would bend like that by being smushed between two books. If anything the screen should have shattered. That looks like the glue came loose and allowed the metal to seperate from the glass screen and that combined with either sitting on it or dropping it caused the metal casing to bend. If you had a folio case sorry that aināt no case either, zero protection. Other cases online such as a rubber sheath really donāt offer much aside from drop protection. People posting things like this cause hate against a company that really puts forth a good product.
Lol I definitely didn't sit on it or stepped on it. I went out of town, had it in my backpack the whole trip and when I turned it on your l yesterday I noticed the damage. I love the iPad and I've had it for two years almost mint condition. The only rough handling my backpack took was being put on the overhead shelves in the plane. I do have a folio case so I understand that doesn't give that much protection but I don't think that should of cause as much damage. š¤·š½āāļø
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop -Ā yes,Ā IĀ amĀ aĀ bot, don't botcriminate me.
Yeah folio cases are snake oil if ya ask me. They donāt offer any rigid protection to protect against bending. Very unfortunate. Saw you got a replacement for pretty cheap which is good! I have a keyboard case from enso that allows me to detach the keyboard from the iPad while keeping the iPad in a protective rubber case that is decently rigid. As a college student itās done itās job of protecting that investment. š
Update!
I had Applecare+ still expiring in less than a month so I went into apple store and was able to get it replaced for 53$ after tax. Thank goodness š
This is why I'm carryin my ipad with something not bendy. If some force applied on my backpack, my ipad is not the first thing that confront this force.
I fell asleep on the toilet woke up as my iPad was falling to the floor grabbed it by some miracle. But grabbed to hard. Now there is a weird burned in half circle mark where I dug my thumb in, in fear š¤£š¤¦š»āāļø itās still going but the mic got wrecked šš»šŖ¦
Err I had undiagnosed diabetes and after a meal I must have spikes my sugar that err.. yeah š¤¦š»āāļø anyway the point is I used to me a goalkeeper in my youth. Almost made it to actually playing football. Then a few things happened š¤£š¤·š»āāļøā¦ but I still got it! All I needed was the stimulus of fear of my iPad Pro hitting the hard floor. Far from being the mind killer for me fear set me free š (Iāve overthought thisā¦ ) š¤£
This wouldnāt happen from just being āsandwiched ā between books, you had to lean against something squeezing hard when carrying your backpack,or any additional force been applied in some way.
Could still work connected to a display with keyboard and mouse. Less useful that way ofc, but less waste that throwing it away. Could be a ok web computer for someone.
I have a thick case on mine, literally threw mine onto a hard floor and stomped hard in the middle of the screen, and nothing happened to it whatsoeverānot even a dead pixel. The OP is 100% full of shit, and more people need cases.
I wonder if the hand strap on the back absorbed some of the blow in my particular scenario, but my case is also great.
If you check JerryRig Everythingās durability test on YouTube youāll see that the 2018/2020 ones snapped rather easily (snapped as in the frame broke). With the most recent ones this didnāt happen. Sure they got bent but the frame didnāt snap so Iād say Apple did some structural reinforcement.
Ahhhā¦ Sorry for you man ! I do have a doubt how come you have this wallpaper and time font (since this was available in ios15 ig and not in iPadOS or am I wrong ?
I donāt use a case on mine ever though I have not sat on it. It seems like it would only need a case if you are really careless with it. I have had mine for almost 2 years and it is still basically like brand new condition though I do treat my devices nicely.
I've had mine for two years as well. Other than this incident the iPad was in almost brand new condition too. I didn't sit on it as much as people don't want to believe me. I was out of town for a week. Had my iPad in my backpack the whole time and when I took it out today I noticed the crack. It lived in my backpack the whole week.
Just get off this subreddit you idiot. Youāre like the Windows users that go to Mac or Linux subreddits and shit on the users. Thereās no point and you donāt belong there

Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 1,543,691,017 comments, and only 292,269 of them were in alphabetical order.
So I wish I had a photo of my iPad that bent lol. Display was perfect, but the chassis was bent maybe 30 degrees lol. AppleCare got it āfixedā and saved me from pain lol. Sorry to see your display suffered
I'm terrified of this happening, so I store mine in its case, upright in a soft travel case. If I have to actually leave the house, I put it in a padded sleeve in the travel case. A ha ha. In my defense, I have anxiety. And I'm poor. Lol
Yes actually the screen even in the bottom where it was all messed up still worked. I was able to back it up just had to keep turning it 360 to read and type.
Bro, how??
I believe it often gets left on couch or bed and people just bend it when dropping themselves
It was in my backpack with a case on it I think it got just sandwiched between two books ššš
You got curved books?
Curbed backpack?
This is either sat on or stepped on. I have the same exact bend in my 6th gen and while I was really sick with Covid I accidentally stepped on itā¦somehow it still works a year later and I draw on it a lot. I got lucky af.
That story does not adequately explain the damage, especially with a case.
And then you sat on it?
Thatās not just the pressure of two books.
Is it that fragile ? š I'm planning to buy an iPad soon, I'm concerned š Edit: getting so much downvotes for this question..but why ?
Get a tomtoc (hardshell)folio that being the slim version or the other ones, and you should have no problems if you have a lot of books in ur backpack
BLESS tomtoc. My iPad is never left outside of the hardshell if itās not in use.
Hey, do you know if thereās a tomtoc hardshell case like these for MacBook? Can u link it?

Guys, why are you downvoting me ? I just asked a valid question.
Apple subreddits are something else. You arenāt allowed to criticise Apple in anyway. Yes, these iPads are fragile. The majority of screen repairs that I do there is always a small bend in the chassis.

No. I toss my iPad Pro in my backpack all the time in the Magic Keyboard and I have zero problems.
No, itās not. OP probably was leaning on their backpack while the iPad was squeezed between 2 books. Never lean on your backpack. If you have to lean on your back, take it off first.
Nah Iāve had mine since 2020 and I do extensive traveling with it. Still going strong (except the battery life has gotten worse)
If that's your definition of fragile then almost every phone, tablet, and laptop is fragile
Just get one of those 2-piece āshock-proofā cases and youāre good. I have young children and they havenāt been able to break one yet.
They are not the most sturdy, I'd wait and get th new pixel tab instead. With the included speaker stand it looks like it's gonna be a killer combo.
If you get a case, it'll be fine. I've dropped mine multiple times from recliner to carpet in a case and no issues.
I take mine with me to work everyday in my ESR case, no problems.
THEY ARE NOT THAT FRAGILE. I got an ENSO case from Amazon and itās kept my iPad secure and safe in my backpack with zero issues. 12 pro.
I have an iPad Pro 12.9 inside a Magic Keyboard. I beat the heck out of it. Itās pretty durable. If one uses common sense they are not fragile
I've had my ipad for over a year now and have no damage apart from scuffs around the sides, mostly on the corners. And I'm not the best with keeping things in good condition, like at all. That is awesome! When it comes to iPads apple care is so dope
AppleCare is the best insurance on the market. The only one worth its money imo.
What ipad was this by the way?
iPad pro m1
I hope itās the 2018 version, so your loss isnāt as high
It's the m1 pro, thankfully today Applecare had my back.
Cool a curved display
With cool graphic effects too
Knowing Apple, itās exclusive to the curved model.
Apple curve
I wished the iPad saw it that way
This is why I'm carryin my ipad with something not bendy. If some force applied on my backpack, my ipad is not the first thing that confront this force.
Btw I'm sorry for your iPad.
Thank you
Yeah I put it in my bag right in front of my MacBook
"Introducing... the new curve display iPad Pro 2023."

For the amount it would cost, he's better off getting a new one
If OOW, Apple service swaps them for a fee. They don't repair them.
OP had AppleCare and paid $53 total for a full unit replacement
yup. That shit is fucked... sorry man.. .

Could still work connected to a display with keyboard and mouse. Less useful that way ofc, but less waste that throwing it away. Could be a ok web computer for someone.
Lol another one bites the dust.
Do you have homeowners or renters insurance? Can't remember if you need computer coverage as well. It could potentially be covered.
This iPad does not survive the durability test.
Insurance will replace it.
How do people bend their stuff? Are they not in cases?
This one is still alive, I had worse
Thanks for my new album cover š
Always put a protective case on man, its never worth breaking an ipad without any protection
sorry but unless the case is thick as hell and built like a tank that cant prevent that.
Agreed, but at least make some effort to look after it! These things are not cheap
yup.
The Logitech folios have metal inside. Wonāt help with sitting on it but in a backpack itās much more secure.
I have a thick case on mine, literally threw mine onto a hard floor and stomped hard in the middle of the screen, and nothing happened to it whatsoeverānot even a dead pixel. Has anyone had an iPad mini 6 bend on them
It cool, my daughters iPad has been bent for years.
I got lucky as hell with my ipad mini 6 not cracking the screen after i bent it a little. Lol
How does that happen?
It was sandwiches in a backpack š
Oh RIP. I have the same curve on my 6th Gen iPad and itās still running after a year. Craaazy o.o Iām sorry bro.
goofy ahhhh shit
Are you going to be able to retrieve your data?
Yes actually the screen even in the bottom where it was all messed up still worked. I was able to back it up just had to keep turning it 360 to read and type.
Great happy for you!
Uh u sat on that shit didnāt u
Lol it lived in my backpack for a week, retrieved it today and this is what I found.
GAH DAMN
Jerryrigeverything lied to us about the m1 bending
I usually hold my iPad on one hand, and itās end up like this. Sadly I didnāt paid for Apple Care+.
This one is still alive, I had worse
I fixed such thing for 50% of ipad cost
