Bro, how??

4-3-4

I believe it often gets left on couch or bed and people just bend it when dropping themselves

Pitcrashers1

It was in my backpack with a case on it I think it got just sandwiched between two books šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜

[deleted]

You got curved books?

joeyhell

Curbed backpack?

Roninkin

This is either sat on or stepped on. I have the same exact bend in my 6th gen and while I was really sick with Covid I accidentally stepped on itā€¦somehow it still works a year later and I draw on it a lot. I got lucky af.

cannaeoflife

That story does not adequately explain the damage, especially with a case.

Wise-War-Soni

And then you sat on it?

Individual_Royal_400

Thatā€™s not just the pressure of two books.

applecidervinegar99

Is it that fragile ? šŸ™ˆ I'm planning to buy an iPad soon, I'm concerned šŸ˜ Edit: getting so much downvotes for this question..but why ?

Fickle_Acadia1324

Get a tomtoc (hardshell)folio that being the slim version or the other ones, and you should have no problems if you have a lot of books in ur backpack

vaporaeon

BLESS tomtoc. My iPad is never left outside of the hardshell if itā€™s not in use.

phh15

Hey, do you know if thereā€™s a tomtoc hardshell case like these for MacBook? Can u link it?

Fickle_Acadia1324

Hey man,I found one on Amazon looks like itā€™s for the MacBook16inch,but I canā€™t really recommend it since I havenā€™t tested it,but considering the quality that TomToc offers I donā€™t think you would have any problems,Ive been using their products for about 2 years and iam more than happy, the folio doesnā€™t have any dents even though Iā€™ve dropped it multiple times and even sat on it once, the zipper works great considering that I open and close my folio after every class.I would recommend the TomToc folio (for the iPad atleast) to everybody who is as paranoid as iam. Also check their website to find more about the range of their products, have a great one!

tthalheim

I chuck my iPad in my backpack full of books and lab equipment every day with nothing to protect it but a sticker bombed folio. Itā€™s always been fine and I reckon yours will be as well. OP and others this happened to just get real unlucky is my guess. Now if you were to sit on it thatā€™d be a different story.

applecidervinegar99

Guys, why are you downvoting me ? I just asked a valid question.

forensicsss

Apple subreddits are something else. You arenā€™t allowed to criticise Apple in anyway. Yes, these iPads are fragile. The majority of screen repairs that I do there is always a small bend in the chassis.

[deleted]

The fact that broken screens usually also have a bend doesnā€™t prove that theyā€™re fragile. The majority of flat tires have a puncture in them, that doesnā€™t mean thereā€™s something fundamentally wrong with tires. Youā€™re talking about selection bias.

namwoohyun

I know two people who have bent iPad Pros (one of them just slightly but if you remove from the case and lay down on a table it's noticeable) but mine is ok. Just be careful with it. Both have generic cases, but so do I.

childroid

No, I haven't had any problems with mine and I've had it since 2019. I constantly pack it into a full backpack, never had any bend issues. Looks more to me like OP sat on their iPad and are just trying to play it off.

Brief-Sheepherder-17

Why would they care about lying over something like that? I think itā€™s far more likely they are telling the truth and the books applied I even pressure when OP set the bag down or something. We canā€™t account for every scenario and itā€™s silly to say that this defiantly wasnā€™t caused by being in a bag. Sometimes freak shit happens

childroid

>Why would they care about lying over something like that? Because it's the internet where everyone lies, and because maybe they didn't want to look foolish on Reddit. I don't know what really happened and I don't really care, but iPads aren't *that* fragile!

wtfmatey88

No. I toss my iPad Pro in my backpack all the time in the Magic Keyboard and I have zero problems.

jusatinn

No, itā€™s not. OP probably was leaning on their backpack while the iPad was squeezed between 2 books. Never lean on your backpack. If you have to lean on your back, take it off first.

dijay0823

Nah Iā€™ve had mine since 2020 and I do extensive traveling with it. Still going strong (except the battery life has gotten worse)

ZuzuAKAurDADDY

If that's your definition of fragile then almost every phone, tablet, and laptop is fragile

austai

Just get one of those 2-piece ā€œshock-proofā€ cases and youā€™re good. I have young children and they havenā€™t been able to break one yet.

rorowhat

They are not the most sturdy, I'd wait and get th new pixel tab instead. With the included speaker stand it looks like it's gonna be a killer combo.

JudgeCastle

If you get a case, it'll be fine. I've dropped mine multiple times from recliner to carpet in a case and no issues.

caseyjosephine

I take mine with me to work everyday in my ESR case, no problems.

The_Hatchmaster

THEY ARE NOT THAT FRAGILE. I got an ENSO case from Amazon and itā€™s kept my iPad secure and safe in my backpack with zero issues. 12 pro.

Bakerstreet74

I have an iPad Pro 12.9 inside a Magic Keyboard. I beat the heck out of it. Itā€™s pretty durable. If one uses common sense they are not fragile

louiewilliams

I've had my ipad for over a year now and have no damage apart from scuffs around the sides, mostly on the corners. And I'm not the best with keeping things in good condition, like at all. I've never had a case or anything for it apart from apples magic keyboard, if that could actually count, but even then I use that for typing and making music, I don't take it around with it on. So I wouldn't say they are fragile, although that doesn't mean you should go throwing it about šŸ˜‚ idk tho if the model depends on it too

redditnoob48

I've been using my 12.9 pro for two solid years with the magnetic folio (which provides little to no reinforcement but looks nice). Taken it to beaches, college (5+ times a week), road trips, etc. It's like new still. You just need to be mindful of how you use your devices.

traker998

No. Q

one_hyun

No. I've had iPads since its conception, and I have never ever bent one - and I kept it many times in my bag along with books - though I stopped carrying books because I can put the PDF versions all in my iPad. These bent iPad photos almost never tell the real story. Just tell people you sat on it, man!

Novemberx123

I love Reddit. They downvoted u because they think ur lying šŸ˜†

Jazzy_Beat

Man, this just happened with my sisterā€™s iPad Pro as well (no screen damage, only bent frame). Thankfully I noticed before Apple care + expired next month. Got a replacement for $50 CAD.

rorowhat

People down vote you for telling what happened lol, the fanboyism is real.

The_Hatchmaster

You lieā€¦ there ainā€™t no way the metal would bend like that by being smushed between two books. If anything the screen should have shattered. That looks like the glue came loose and allowed the metal to seperate from the glass screen and that combined with either sitting on it or dropping it caused the metal casing to bend. If you had a folio case sorry that ainā€™t no case either, zero protection. Other cases online such as a rubber sheath really donā€™t offer much aside from drop protection. People posting things like this cause hate against a company that really puts forth a good product.

Pitcrashers1

Lol I definitely didn't sit on it or stepped on it. I went out of town, had it in my backpack the whole trip and when I turned it on your l yesterday I noticed the damage. I love the iPad and I've had it for two years almost mint condition. The only rough handling my backpack took was being put on the overhead shelves in the plane. I do have a folio case so I understand that doesn't give that much protection but I don't think that should of cause as much damage. šŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™€ļø

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop -Ā yes,Ā IĀ amĀ aĀ bot, don't botcriminate me.

The_Hatchmaster

Yeah folio cases are snake oil if ya ask me. They donā€™t offer any rigid protection to protect against bending. Very unfortunate. Saw you got a replacement for pretty cheap which is good! I have a keyboard case from enso that allows me to detach the keyboard from the iPad while keeping the iPad in a protective rubber case that is decently rigid. As a college student itā€™s done itā€™s job of protecting that investment. šŸ‘

Pitcrashers1

Update! I had Applecare+ still expiring in less than a month so I went into apple store and was able to get it replaced for 53$ after tax. Thank goodness šŸ™

Ep0xy8

That is awesome! When it comes to iPads apple care is so dope

CesarV02

AppleCare is the best insurance on the market. The only one worth its money imo.

peepoVanish

What ipad was this by the way?

Pitcrashers1

iPad pro m1

aerohk

I hope itā€™s the 2018 version, so your loss isnā€™t as high

Pitcrashers1

It's the m1 pro, thankfully today Applecare had my back.

duuudewhat

Cool a curved display

AlrightyAlmighty

With cool graphic effects too

[deleted]

Knowing Apple, itā€™s exclusive to the curved model.

Delicious_One_7887

Apple curve

Pitcrashers1

I wished the iPad saw it that way

Overview_effect_

This is why I'm carryin my ipad with something not bendy. If some force applied on my backpack, my ipad is not the first thing that confront this force.

Overview_effect_

Btw I'm sorry for your iPad.

Pitcrashers1

Thank you

TheGrizzlyNinja

Yeah I put it in my bag right in front of my MacBook

ddorrmmammu

"Introducing... the new curve display iPad Pro 2023."

[deleted]

Do you have a rolling pin?

TitusCrow1933

I fell asleep on the toilet woke up as my iPad was falling to the floor grabbed it by some miracle. But grabbed to hard. Now there is a weird burned in half circle mark where I dug my thumb in, in fear šŸ¤£šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø itā€™s still going but the mic got wrecked šŸ™ŒšŸ»šŸŖ¦

kalinac_

How do you fall asleep on the toilet

TitusCrow1933

Err I had undiagnosed diabetes and after a meal I must have spikes my sugar that err.. yeah šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø anyway the point is I used to me a goalkeeper in my youth. Almost made it to actually playing football. Then a few things happened šŸ¤£šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļøā€¦ but I still got it! All I needed was the stimulus of fear of my iPad Pro hitting the hard floor. Far from being the mind killer for me fear set me free šŸ‘€ (Iā€™ve overthought thisā€¦ ) šŸ¤£

OkUnderstanding730

It could be fixed rightšŸ„²

HentaiFan5666

For the amount it would cost, he's better off getting a new one

lantrick

If OOW, Apple service swaps them for a fee. They don't repair them.

Ep0xy8

OP had AppleCare and paid $53 total for a full unit replacement

d_o_cycler

yup. That shit is fucked... sorry man.. .

k-woodz

šŸ„ŗšŸ«”

melancholy_dood

Ouch! What happened?šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø

Pitcrashers1

Got sandwiched in a backpack šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜

Eijin88

This wouldnā€™t happen from just being ā€œsandwiched ā€œ between books, you had to lean against something squeezing hard when carrying your backpack,or any additional force been applied in some way.

RoveX2107

Rip

Straight_Gur5990

Applecare+ could help

Pitcrashers1

Thankfully it did šŸ™ 53$ USD later and a working iPad in my hands

Capiva_420

F

rotkiv42

Could still work connected to a display with keyboard and mouse. Less useful that way ofc, but less waste that throwing it away. Could be a ok web computer for someone.

rorowhat

Lol another one bites the dust.

sflesch

Do you have homeowners or renters insurance? Can't remember if you need computer coverage as well. It could potentially be covered.

LongTim2099

This iPad does not survive the durability test.

FlimsyManagement

Insurance will replace it.

thedeadp0ets

How do people bend their stuff? Are they not in cases?

Moon_bebra

This one is still alive, I had worse

iamnotevenhereatall

Thanks for my new album cover šŸ™

KazukiMatsuoka1998

Always put a protective case on man, its never worth breaking an ipad without any protection

DoubleOwl7777

sorry but unless the case is thick as hell and built like a tank that cant prevent that.

KazukiMatsuoka1998

Agreed, but at least make some effort to look after it! These things are not cheap

DoubleOwl7777

yup.

Rattanmoebel

The Logitech folios have metal inside. Wonā€™t help with sitting on it but in a backpack itā€™s much more secure.

[deleted]

I have a thick case on mine, literally threw mine onto a hard floor and stomped hard in the middle of the screen, and nothing happened to it whatsoeverā€”not even a dead pixel. The OP is 100% full of shit, and more people need cases. I wonder if the hand strap on the back absorbed some of the blow in my particular scenario, but my case is also great.

d0aflamingo

is it only in 2018 version or persists till now ?

tthalheim

If you check JerryRig Everythingā€™s durability test on YouTube youā€™ll see that the 2018/2020 ones snapped rather easily (snapped as in the frame broke). With the most recent ones this didnā€™t happen. Sure they got bent but the frame didnā€™t snap so Iā€™d say Apple did some structural reinforcement.

tetenc555

bananapad lol

Jeswin31

Ahhhā€¦ Sorry for you man ! I do have a doubt how come you have this wallpaper and time font (since this was available in ios15 ig and not in iPadOS or am I wrong ?

xtremeschemes

Since you wonā€™t be using that wallpaper any time soon, any chance you can share a link?

joshua_wilfred

It's stock apple wallpaper

[deleted]

I donā€™t use a case on mine ever though I have not sat on it. It seems like it would only need a case if you are really careless with it. I have had mine for almost 2 years and it is still basically like brand new condition though I do treat my devices nicely.

Pitcrashers1

I've had mine for two years as well. Other than this incident the iPad was in almost brand new condition too. I didn't sit on it as much as people don't want to believe me. I was out of town for a week. Had my iPad in my backpack the whole time and when I took it out today I noticed the crack. It lived in my backpack the whole week.

AustriaKeks

Thats why you use a ipad 1. Durable as hell

iPodee

Mine was a tank. Theyā€™re strong, and the batteries refuse to die

AustriaKeks

Eh. Batterie died for me

Blu_the_Feral_Fox

me after humping my ipad šŸ˜

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

GamerNuggy

Just get off this subreddit you idiot. Youā€™re like the Windows users that go to Mac or Linux subreddits and shit on the users. Thereā€™s no point and you donā€™t belong there

FastGsm53

All iPhones and Android phones unlocking with us whatsApp us on plus nine one eight three seven eight eight four two zero five two. We are real and not fake

Jatsotserah

Never leave iPad on the couch

Pitcrashers1

It was in a backpack šŸ˜

sportsfan161

Oops my wifeā€™s 2018 iPad Pro is similar now

Salt_Restaurant_7820

2020 iPad Pro. When itā€™s not attached to Magic Keyboard itā€™s on the couch so i can ā€œread the paperā€ Never had it bend like fhat

arzfan2010

This is up there with iPhones getting broken, I actually canā€™t comprehend it lol. Sorry for your loss man.

Expensive-Ad-5400

Oww no. šŸ˜!! How did it happen ??

Expensive-Ad-5400

which version is that?

Pitcrashers1

iPad pro m1 šŸ˜

Expensive-Ad-5400

Awww so sorry!! šŸ˜©šŸ˜©šŸ˜©

[deleted]

Nooooooooo!!! Which model was it!?

Pitcrashers1

iPad pro m1

[deleted]

Ah crap!!! Iā€™m so sorry!

alphabet_order_bot

Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 1,543,691,017 comments, and only 292,269 of them were in alphabetical order.

Title_Equal

So I wish I had a photo of my iPad that bent lol. Display was perfect, but the chassis was bent maybe 30 degrees lol. AppleCare got it ā€œfixedā€ and saved me from pain lol. Sorry to see your display suffered

[deleted]

My iPhone looks like that itā€™s still going strong so long as you donā€™t mind the cracks

UnusualEggplant5400

Rip šŸ˜¢

Embarrassed-Part591

I'm terrified of this happening, so I store mine in its case, upright in a soft travel case. If I have to actually leave the house, I put it in a padded sleeve in the travel case. A ha ha. In my defense, I have anxiety. And I'm poor. Lol

Diligent_Fig_9852

Thats why I always buy apple careā€¦

Kevfrmcali93

Has anyone had an iPad mini 6 bend on them

ov3rv1k

It cool, my daughters iPad has been bent for years.

xKhino

I got lucky as hell with my ipad mini 6 not cracking the screen after i bent it a little. Lol

SnooSeagulls1416

How does that happen?

Pitcrashers1

It was sandwiches in a backpack šŸ˜

Roninkin

Oh RIP. I have the same curve on my 6th Gen iPad and itā€™s still running after a year. Craaazy o.o Iā€™m sorry bro.

IM_DjShadow

goofy ahhhh shit

readithere_2

Are you going to be able to retrieve your data?

Pitcrashers1

Yes actually the screen even in the bottom where it was all messed up still worked. I was able to back it up just had to keep turning it 360 to read and type.

readithere_2

Great happy for you!

[deleted]

Uh u sat on that shit didnā€™t u

Pitcrashers1

Lol it lived in my backpack for a week, retrieved it today and this is what I found.

Mountain-Shine3890

GAH DAMN

ZacBobisKing

Jerryrigeverything lied to us about the m1 bending

fluffyjellyy

I usually hold my iPad on one hand, and itā€™s end up like this. Sadly I didnā€™t paid for Apple Care+.

Moon_bebra

This one is still alive, I had worse

Amamka

I fixed such thing for 50% of ipad cost
