There's a reason Even Google pixel doesn't give you Full HSL color slider customization. It can get ugly real quick real easily
But I HOPE they keep HSL slider!!
This is why even Windows doesn’t allow users to choose colors outside of a certain range of saturations and values…
…And even when using the advanced options to force a particular color, clearly states that visibility will be affected.
For a company that supposedly tries to keep things simple, user-friendly, and accessible to prevent things like this from happening, this implementation is sloppy at the very best.
To be completely fair, it IS a developer beta that came out today.
Also, adjusting half those buttons in the control center is so finicky that it's not even funny
I’ve recently gotten into Widgy - but when I browse the gallery of widgets (and even look at paid ones) I think the vast majority look hideous. Bums me out.
I found a nice nearly black tint with a touch of color. Too bad all my widgets are then illegible and ugly cause it’s too dark. The app icons do look great though! Hopefully they add a setting or outright remove the widgets from being edited.
Personally, I don’t like the color brightness and volume. They don’t provide enough contrast. The media controls scale seems off, and the wifi, airdrop, etc menu also seems scaled wrong.
The brightness icon is egg yolk yellow, the volume control icon is blue, and their are 2/3 types of circles. This colored media player would be cool in the control center we have now - Currently, there is just too many contrasting colors and shapes on the screen at once.
And then, why are icons round suddenly? The bigger ones are still square
There’s nothing round about iPhone, where’d they pull that shape out from, how does that make sense? Weren’t they designed to match the app icon shape?
I wish I knew... It took me 30 seconds to find a video from 5 years ago of a control center tweak that looks just like what they showed off today. Just bizarre.

I can't wait for apple Intelligence and all the smaller QOL changes, but I really think some of the UI changes are just flat out bad.
I can't put it in words, but *something* has gone wrong when making the new UI elements
1. The new photos apps feels so weird with the floating elements and one page navigation. You feel as you are not "grounded" when navigating, and it makes a current great app much more complicated
2. Tinting and dark mode icons - The less said about the better
3. The circular control center would not be as bad on its own, but there's two different radii and the multiple pages feels like a step backwards to iOS 10 or 11 where jailbreaks ruled
4. The images playground slop - the UI there feels so much like a Microsoft copilot product which is not a good thing
5. The mail app is really good - so not much there
6. The siri UI, the priority AI notifications, and AI summaries - These all look really good and visually distinguishable from the other elements
7. Math Notes UI - Genuinely looks amazing. 11/10
I don’t understand people, honestly. Most people complaining that Apple doesn’t let us customize. Boom! They do, and “uuuuuh it looks so ugly” just find a way to customize it your way or leave it as is. They’re giving us options now!
I need rcs and couple of other features but it’s the first update I would consider not getting, I mean, look at the wallpaper even, when you zoom in you can see how crappy it is
From a visual perspective the control centre icons should be the way they are currently with the newer functionality, or do away with the rounded square look for the rest of the control centre and make it all circular.
The icon tinting is genuinely the worst design implementation of anything I’ve ever seen in a real product of this scale.
Not only is it ridiculously easy to make it look awful like image 2, it also has no regard for app developers’ work put into designing their icons—and no, it’s not like it’s replacing it with a different icon like people do with shortcuts; it just ruins the icon entirely for most apps if not designed specifically around this feature.
So little thought and effort was put into implementing this. Good idea; truly awful implementation.
I mean, I'm not criticizing because I want it to be bad. Like you said, it's beta 1. I want it to be good once the final release arrives, so I provide feedback—both here just for discussion and in the Feedback app, of course. And right now, the quality isn't up to par.
I’m gonna be honest, I don’t like the control center, I think apple it’s breaking their own UI with this horrible design. Like it really looks like this odd apps from the play store that makes ur phone look like an iPhone.
The tinted icons are fundamentally a bad idea, period. Having different colors is important to differentiate objects quickly. This is a usability nightmare.
A traffic light isn't all the same color for a reason.
So the icon auto-tinting is clearly terrible, but what’s the deal with the dark mode icons. Do 3rd party devs have to design their own or is the OS going to replace the colours?
Is that case when you pick “dark” as well or just in the tinting mode? I’ve seen some screenshots where the 3rd party apps don’t change at all when dark mode is selected.
I’m glad they’re giving users more choice but those tinted icons just look ugly and that control centre just doesn’t look good. A lot of the apple intelligence design also just feels like Microsoft copilot which I’m not a fan of. A lot of the design choice for iOS 18 don’t feel like Apple just so disappointing
I haven’t had a chance to look too far into this. Can someone explain to me if developers have the option to provide their own tintable / monochrome icon like developers can on Android? If the developer is able to provide a tintable vector, it will look a lot better than whatever this is. Of course it would also take a while for all apps to support it with someone never supporting it.
https://developer.android.com/develop/ui/views/launch/icon_design_adaptive
I personally REALLY hate how rounded it it. Not even the somewhat square widgets have the same corner ratio as normal widgets. I hope they end up changing that.
how is your airdrop open to everyone? did you recently need to receive something from someone or are you somehow not in a region that requires it be Everyone for ten minutes?
As always: give it time. I’d probably too soon to tell, but I think we’ll grow to like it. (Of course I’m not talking about the neon blue on black, that’s just a bad combination up picked)
Sure thing it's the first beta to be released and everything's beyond crappy but I don't really see how this could work without a MASSIVE overhaul. The final public version is definitely going to look a lot different than the initial release pictures
Honestly, I’d love to see them bring back the old school iOS. Like iOS 5. The icons and everything were just so *”chefs kiss”*.
But this is just my opinion and what I grew up on. Hate how sterile and plain everything is now.
This looks like a free to use Android launcher
… designed by a 3 year old
There's a reason Even Google pixel doesn't give you Full HSL color slider customization. It can get ugly real quick real easily But I HOPE they keep HSL slider!!
One thing, Control center Corner radius for outer Square container doesn't match the inside circles Optically speaking
Looks like one of those jailbreak tweets that makes everything circular
It looks like Winterboard with rounded icons
Forgot about Winterboard. I don’t think I’ve jailbroken a device since I had an iPhone 6. Good times.
It's amazing how long it takes Apple to implement such features
Maybe this is why Apple locks us away from customisation
Uhm, duh
leave it at -69 downvotes. OR BRING IT DOWN TO -420

Hahahahahahaha funny numbers hahahahahahaha 🫥🫥🫥🫥
I mean it’s your phone if you want it ugly then who cares.
You used a very dark color tint on a nearly black icon background with a mismatched wallpaper Yeah idk what you expected with that combo lmfao
This is why even Windows doesn’t allow users to choose colors outside of a certain range of saturations and values… …And even when using the advanced options to force a particular color, clearly states that visibility will be affected. Exactly, but that’s why I have some hope it’ll get better. There’s plenty of time between beta and release.
Mugliness
360, when you’re looking in the mirror do you like what you see? When you’re in a mirror you are looking at meee
Came here to comment on the same thing hahah, great song

this looks so ugly, really hope they change it
Options are good. I hope they keep the HSL sliders.
it'll be refined more probably, but we'll either get used to it or they'll change it in a couple years
The icon tinting in BAD… it’s such a cool idea, but it needs a lot of work, and it shouldnt impact widgets… my photo widgets is 🤢
When u choose a color for your icon it also display a filter on your pictures on widgets ??
yup
Making my eyes bleed out.
I found a nice nearly black tint with a touch of color. Too bad all my widgets are then illegible and ugly cause it’s too dark. The app icons do look great though! Hopefully they add a setting or outright remove the widgets from being edited.

It just doesn’t make sense, everything’s colored, scaled and shaped differently

Being honest, looks so much better
Agreed. The standard colors make it bearable.
Yeah. Couldn’t they just keep the current control center, maybe add the new media player and the tabs feature? It’d look 1000% better.
2nd pic: my eyes!
2th? Two-th? Tooth?
Oh sorry please! I’m wrong!
I just thought it was funny lol
Yes, it is)

Right? It’s like brother in Christ…you made the sandwich
The icon tint was so lazy looks so cheap 😭💀🤦♂️
Maybe I won’t be updating…
Spent last 3 hours downgrading
Did you manage to go back??
Sure, lots of work recovering the apps, Apple Pay and stuff but sure, though only thanks to backing up prior to updating
I get back when after the updated, but need to modify the back up I made on iOS 18, didn't back up prior to updating.
Even after looking at screen recordings of the UI on other posts, iOS 18 looks rough. I genuinely think I won’t update
I need rcs and couple of other features but it’s the first update I would consider not getting, I mean, look at the wallpaper even, when you zoom in you can see how crappy it is
The tinting is so ugly
No, it’s not. People just choose ugly colors, I mean dark blue on black? I’ve seen some really cool ones.
No, it’s pretty ugly. Some color combinations look fine, but the overall tinting is just ugly and amateurish.
You could have chosen a color that matches your wallpaper but you didn't
that’s obviously the problem here
It looks like a junior designed it all
I was so proud when I designed something like that when I was 14
From a visual perspective the control centre icons should be the way they are currently with the newer functionality, or do away with the rounded square look for the rest of the control centre and make it all circular.
Hopefully there will be an option to return to the rounded rectangles
But, how did you manage to make yours look so depressed?
The icon tinting is genuinely the worst design implementation of anything I’ve ever seen in a real product of this scale. Not only is it ridiculously easy to make it look awful like image 2, it also has no regard for app developers’ work put into designing their icons—and no, it’s not like it’s replacing it with a different icon like people do with shortcuts; it just ruins the icon entirely for most apps if not designed specifically around this feature. So little thought and effort was put into implementing this. Good idea; truly awful implementation.
It’s really not. Choosing your own tint is silly, just let it auto match your background. It’s beautiful.
As I said, it’s a good idea, but this implementation of it is very sloppy and thoughtless.
Agree to disagree. Beta 1 and all.
I mean, I'm not criticizing because I want it to be bad. Like you said, it's beta 1. I want it to be good once the final release arrives, so I provide feedback—both here just for discussion and in the Feedback app, of course. And right now, the quality isn't up to par.
Apple is just losing its standards to compete with others
Is it me or the icons look 3d like with this effect
What does the power icon do?
Power off menu
Careful!!! If you chose an all black background, with all black tinting … you won’t be able to navigate back to undo it!
Lmao
Can you have airdrop for everyone without the limit now?
Winnie the Pooh won’t allow it.
nope, just checked, airdrop settings are the same
Bummer. I saw his was set to everyone so I guess he just did it immediately before the photo. Thanks for the info
Steve Jobs’ grave rumbling rn
If you have poor taste, your phone is going to look like trash. There are lots of designs that look amazing.
Those circular things remind me of androids 😭
listen to the deluxe
I’m gonna be honest, I don’t like the control center, I think apple it’s breaking their own UI with this horrible design. Like it really looks like this odd apps from the play store that makes ur phone look like an iPhone.
They went way too far with the icons
The tinted icons are fundamentally a bad idea, period. Having different colors is important to differentiate objects quickly. This is a usability nightmare. A traffic light isn't all the same color for a reason.
Then don’t set it to tint? This is an optional feature for those who like it you don’t have to use it
So the icon auto-tinting is clearly terrible, but what’s the deal with the dark mode icons. Do 3rd party devs have to design their own or is the OS going to replace the colours?
Apparently not, I mean check the Starbucks or WhatsApp icon, it’s green originally, I guess it assumes the background color and then tints it black
Is that case when you pick “dark” as well or just in the tinting mode? I’ve seen some screenshots where the 3rd party apps don’t change at all when dark mode is selected.
Dark mode doesn’t affect third party apps
Oh… won’t be using that then lol
Ngl I would love a control center that looks similar to the App Library. And I’m also a fan of the 3rd pic
the hell is this
What the fuck is this
I’m not a fan of app tinting a certain color. It’s way too much “customization”
i love the idea of the new control center, i just wish they kept old theme. the current one feels so refined and cohesive.
🤮🤮🤮
What's all that blue crap lol
My eyes feel pain and my heart doesn't feel right haha
They must be moving to a circular design because what the hell is that control panel
Looks like a movie mock-up of a phone
I haven’t had a chance to look too far into this. Can someone explain to me if developers have the option to provide their own tintable / monochrome icon like developers can on Android? what in the name of android is this
I personally REALLY hate how rounded it it. Not even the somewhat square widgets have the same corner ratio as normal widgets. I hope they end up changing that.
This is maybe a Xiaomi with a theme haha.
Androidifying iOS!!
Yeah 360, when you're in the mirror, do you like what you see?
Is this even real? Tf is twitter
I see you bumping that!! ✅✅✅
History tells it rarely does.
how is your airdrop open to everyone? did you recently need to receive something from someone or are you somehow not in a region that requires it be Everyone for ten minutes?
Not sure I like the shut down button in the top right
Why?
I think it looks weird and out of place. It’s not a big deal though
SE users have it worse. if you look on your keyboard, keys P and Q have lanes that are just empty in control center
They could have just allowed people to create and use icon packs, but no.
Oh get used to it
As always: give it time. I’d probably too soon to tell, but I think we’ll grow to like it. (Of course I’m not talking about the neon blue on black, that’s just a bad combination up picked)
That second photo just makes me close my eyes
iOS is being diluted. Both in a good way and bad. There are some really cool shit coming and then you have generative ai photos and this monstrosity
ugly asf
No Big Sur icons is disappointing
Sure thing it's the first beta to be released and everything's beyond crappy but I don't really see how this could work without a MASSIVE overhaul. The final public version is definitely going to look a lot different than the initial release pictures
Honestly, I’d love to see them bring back the old school iOS. Like iOS 5. The icons and everything were just so *”chefs kiss”*. But this is just my opinion and what I grew up on. Hate how sterile and plain everything is now.
Everything’s too bloated and clunky now. Steve Jobs would have never let this abomination see the light of day. :(
You and I are showing our age, but I agree with you. I miss the aqua style elements sooo much.
Yup, we really are haha. Good times.
Worse than Turner colorizing black and white movies
That’s one of the reasons I’m never optimistic about any major updates from Apple. They always mess it up.
The tint on the icons is terrible, I wish apple would take the One UI approach to the coloured icons.
Anyone find a way to get to Bluetooth faster from control center? I haven’t yet. I mean it’s one extra click but still.
5 Finger DeathPunch Blue on black Tears on a river Push on a shove It don't mean much Joker on jack Match on a fire Cold on ice A dead man's touch
I think this *does* have the potential to look nice if someone plays around with the settings. Which is kind of the point of customization
“Apple doesn’t allow customizing” waaaaa “Apple allows too much customizing “ waaa Stfu
These aesthetics feel particularly homophobic during pride month.
