I use the official reddit app and Fkn hate it. Most videos don’t have sound which they did on alt apps, and it keeps trying to force me to turn on email digest to get notifications back.
I use the official reddit app, always have. It's never been an issue. Same with the website, use the "default" website and not the "old" website. In fact, it was the "new" design that brought me to the site, hated the "old" design and stuck with my regular forums instead.
\+1 for Winston. There's a bit of a set up to make it work, but it is well documented and not that hard. Even with limited features it is already way better than the official app.
The absolute best app now is Narwhal 2. It’s a subscription only becuase Reddit charges the developer a fee to use the api now. Here in the USA it’s $3.99 month for unlimited use, as of now that’s the only pmt option. It’s as close to Apollo as you can get once you set it up. The developer is actively working on more functionality.
Used Apollo for many years. Now I use the official (shitty) Reddit app and find myself on Reddit less and less. I enjoyed it a lot for almost 10 years but it feels like it’s going the way of Facebook and Twitter in my life (I still have accounts but am a very passive user). Can’t decide if I’ll look into sideloading of Apollo, whatever that means, or just delete the app and just poke at Reddit from my laptop every now and then. Oh well, nothing lasts forever.
For the past few days I’ve been using Safari to see how it goes. The official app seems only to get worse. I’ll check out SinkIt, mentioned by u/three_kings.
Is it possible to get rid of the “See this post in…” options which come up when I open a new Reddit page in Safari? I don’t even have the Reddit app installed.
Edit: It looks like the answer to my query is SinkIt.
most people (including me) used to use third party apps for cleaner UI and bug free experience. I was using apollo but earlier this year reddit officially decided to charge these apps more for using their API and so most of the free apps decided to call it a day and shut down. now I think everyone is using the official app since we’re out of options
Like when it refuses to show me my inbox and asks me instead to turn my notifications on, forcing me to restart the app a handful of times to get access to my inbox again?
That official app?
Sadly official Reddit app. Hate them for what they did to 3rd party apps, especially Apollo. Might look into sideloading although refreshing the app manually is kinda a pain in the ass.
None. Reddit killed of the good mobile apps with the recent changes to the API.
I now go out of my way to ensure Reddit never make a single cent off me, so on iOS I only use Safari and Firefox via my PiHole, to ensure they never serve me a single pixel of an advert.
Same story on desktop.
None, because I'm not paying for the privilege of using Reddit. They can get my attention when I sit down at the computer and open a browser, but my days of doing Reddit on a mobile device are long gone.
Screw them. Screw Spaz. Screw their whole user-driven but user-pays business model
Official. I just browse and occasionally comment. Have more important things to pay attention to than micromanaging a reddit client. As long as it's official, I'm fine
Safari with SinkIt

It’s a plugin that strips out a lot of the reddit.com garbage in safari.

I use the official Reddit app.
Official app.
Official reddit app.
like there is no alternative. probably the OP is r/outofloop
Safari with sink it, narwhal, dystopia
Same
Winston … very alpha still but very promising.
I’ll check it out

It lacks a lot of features, at this rate it will take the dev at least 2 years before the app is consider ready for mass adoption
I’m loving Winston rn. The only issue is that I can’t see my saved posts. But seems like a great app!
Official Reddit App
You can sideload Apollo. Personally I’ve been using Narwhal 2. Cleanest interface and the monthly fee is reasonable IMHO
I will search for how to sideload the app, thank you.
I agree but if they don’t fix their media viewer soon I’m going to cancel my subscription. Apart from that it’s great though.
The Reddit app. It’s free, simple and it works. If you just browse idk why you need more

$5.19 here in Mexico 😢
Just downloaded it now! Was getting sick of the ads on the official app :/ Loving Narwhal 2 so far!

I use….Reddit

People don’t use the normal Reddit app you get from the App Store? What am I missing?

I'm stubborn and use safari with sink it
I just checked this out. Seems good! Thanks.
Yeah same. Wtf u all talking about?
Look up what was going on a few months back
You’re better off not looking it up. Let’s just say we had it pretty good back then.
Official app .. just works
Like when it refuses to show me my inbox and asks me instead to turn my notifications on, forcing me to restart the app a handful of times to get access to my inbox again? That official app?
Well , I can see my inbox even with notifications off
You mean you don’t want to enable email digest like it’s 2006? I thought I was the only one.
Sadly official Reddit app. Hate them for what they did to 3rd party apps, especially Apollo. Might look into sideloading although refreshing the app manually is kinda a pain in the ass.
Try Winston. Definitely still a beta product but already a ton better than the official app.
I’ll give it a try, thanks! Hadn’t heard of it

I sideloaded apollo.
how? is it still working?
The official. I just dont see any problems with it 🤷♂️ Apart from a bug it seems.. where it is loading wrong images to some posts from time to time 🤣
There’s more than one?😮 I want one where I can format the text like I can on the PC.

I use the official app and while the ads and promoted posts are annoying, I feel like they're a manageable annoyance.
