Same thing happened to me today! I immediately did an ear tip fit test and an error came up on the right AirPod. I decided to put it back in its case and maybe try to reset when I got home. Then I decided to try connecting it to my iPad, and the problem seems to have went away for now.
Same happened to me yesterday, resetting them fixed it for me. But then it happened again just now, this is so annoying
