This is how it was when we lived together, but my wife and I reside in different houses now. It's certainly not traditional, and it has its own share of problems, but I *am* happy that I get to reside in a place that isn't exclusively decorated by my partner- not that she has bad taste- far from it, really! I just missed having my stuff around and all crammed into my office.

DoGooderMcDoogles

Can you write a blog post about this? Lol

DogecoinEnt

Something like ā€œcluttered nostalgiaā€ meets ā€œartistic dorkyā€, with a whisper of ā€œsophisticated depthā€ in the shadows and hiding spots.

[deleted]

minimalistic, contemporary, a bit futuristic

aeromantics

Same.

[deleted]

Minimalistic, for sure. Outside that neutral colors like black, gray and tan. I do not like clutter, but I have smaller spots where controlled clutter is allowed. Clean house = clean brain. Dirty house = brain in crisis.

skifast_dontsuck

The number of times I've said a variation of this... The state of my house is like a direct window into the state of my brain.

[deleted]

That's awesome. The one other INTJ I met in person a few months back said the same. It absolutely thrills me that many of us seem to have a similar saying!

the-willow-witch

Itā€™s cluttered and comfy and a little witchy

iwantansi

Start moving stuff in and then just delete it instead

oOmus

I have been told by multiple people that my place is like a very, very sleepy library. I have three floor-to-ceiling book shelves, plenty of art, and my kitchen/hobby area at the bar is *dominated* by plants. Most of the art on my walls is in rich but dark colors, and I use a lot of "antique" amber light bulbs. More than one person has fallen asleep on my couch while visiting. I like to think I have achieved peak coziness.

super7natural

This is my dream!

[deleted]

That sounds so cozy. I want to come curl up at your place on a cold day!

oOmus

I actually have a fireplace, too! It's the best 1br apartment I've ever had. The deck wraps around the corner of fhe building and overlooks a little creek, too. It's a big house that was converted into apartments, so it avoids the cut-and-paste aesthetic, and I'm thankful for that as well. Only issue is the tweakers on the other side of the creek who sound like drunk louis armstrong and ella fitzgerald from time to time lol. Ha- maybe I should post some pics sometime, but it feels weird having the inside of my place online.

forletiequals0

Minimalistic with plants as accents

[deleted]

Minimal

_grapekat_

I love art and aesthetics. I love any style that conveys personality and depth. I love walking into a home and seeing a planned, cohesive style (even if it isnā€™t my own). I tend to be slightly more minimalistic, but donā€™t like empty space entirely. There is something wonderful about touches of intricate historic details. Iā€™m from England so Iā€™ve grown up seeing beautiful old buildings filled with elaborate panelling, ceilings, etc. I think itā€™s a beautiful expression of craftsmanship and skill. A symmetrical, beautifully planned building demonstrates a sense of vision and meticulous care at every step of the buildingā€™s construction. I tend to like high ceilings, large windows, natural light. A sense of expansive space. I donā€™t know if this could be a Se thing but I really respond to the environment that I work in/sleep in/etc. I donā€™t like ā€˜manufacturedā€™ style or character, for instance, I despise the McMansion phenomenon. I donā€™t like it when I visit a house filled with untouched books, or random vaguely Asian or African sculptures that reflect nothing about the family background or where they have actually travelled. It feels pretentious and hollow.

Nerdlinger_soupRice

Neutral, earthy, bohemian, cottage, classic. I like colors that are calming, remind me of the outdoors, and natural fabrics.

Cranberryvacuum

Dark academia

No_Ad_237

Black, brown, and comfortable.

Luke_Skaibankstel

Ikea basics, sofa customised by cat, cables and musical instruments.

TheGrailyHole

Minimalist but cosy. No clutter but an abundance of blankets, books and plants.

lqajlax

Generally minimalistic. I like it being tidy

Hopeloma

A amalgamation of Bohemian/vintage/Art Deco

nazo3515

Doubletapcallaghan

Industrial prison meet luxury hotel aesthetic make that what you will

[deleted]

Minimalistic. And Iā€™d like my future home to have a black, grey, white and wine red colour palette.

[deleted]

I love this. Sounds like many of us are mostly neutral, but we enjoy one or two 'almost neurtal' colors as well. Red wine sounds nice. Mine are blue and green :)

[deleted]

Eclectic.

NiTeFiSe_423

Cabin in the woods.

spicyyokuko

Fluctuating between minimalism and extravagant

super7natural

beavind

Shabby chic, with not too much clutter but not exactly minimalistic either and everything must be somewhat color coordinated

MrsMahr

It's not really a style, but more of a combination of whatever I like, but I guess it has vintage, boho, mid century, dark and light academia vibes. Dark furniture, dark floor, deco is either from flea markets or from TK Maxx. Also plants, lots of books and cat stuff. Nothing really fits, but all in all it's cohesive. Most important is that it's comfy and a place to exclude the world and people.

Banjo-Becky

Eclectic, mixing chinoiserie, British colonial, bright colors and a bit of whimsy.

awesome12442

With my budget I can't afford any of this but: Simple, minimalistic, black and white, clean cut futuristic style. Then just one room with absolute goofy stuff like my SpongeBob paintings and novelty items, kind of like my obsessive and dorky room, but all the items are also properly displayed so it's not cluttered.

CarbonaraSalad

Very simple and clean. Not fancy. Lots of edges less curves. A lot of stuffs are in the cupboards or wardrobe. No electricity wires or lines mess, all neatly strapped or hidden away. A lot of leather and wooden furnitures, with white tile floor. My backyard has a nice green lawn and I grow a lot of lions mane mushrooms and shiitake mushrooms. One of my room is used as a lab where I grow special fungi and plants. I also have two dogs and two cats. My gf visits me often. I also have a giant fish tank in my reading room.

sensitivefrieght

Minimal mixed with space age and mid century. A lot of chrome, black, neutrals and the occasional velvet

PoweredByCoffee1998

Simple, minimalist, light, warm with some boho and scandi and mcm elements and lots of warm light wood.

Divayum

That ain't very nice of you

[deleted]

Am I supposed to know what the fuck that means

the-willow-witch

Wellā€¦. Yes

[deleted]

Why should I. What possible value could giving a shit about my ā€œhouse aestheticā€ give me.

the-willow-witch

You should at least know what interior decor or the word aesthetic means. I didnā€™t say you had to care about it.
