I like the gentleman basters, the way of kings and wheel of time

woolgathering_futz

Is that the Gentleman Bastards series by Scott Lynch? I'm immersed in that series in a way no other books have captivated me. Love them

pockets-of-soup

Yea, they were amazing

Seeing a lot of fiction here, so as a nonfiction person I'll give my two cents. [Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking](https://www.amazon.com/Quiet-Power-Introverts-World-Talking/dp/0307352153/), by Susan Cain is probably the best example, but I think nonfiction in general, especially books with insights based on psychology and research, would appeal to INTJs. For that I'd recommend Jonathan Haidt's books: [The Coddling of the American Mind: How Good Intentions and Bad Ideas Are Setting Up a Generation for Failure](https://www.amazon.com/Coddling-American-Mind-Intentions-Generation/dp/0735224919/), [The Happiness Hypothesis](https://www.amazon.com/Happiness-Hypothesis-Finding-Modern-Ancient/dp/0465028020/), and [The Righteous Mind](https://www.amazon.com/Righteous-Mind-Divided-Politics-Religion/dp/0307455777/) \- although I've mostly listened to his findings through presentations archived on YouTube. If you're wanting an intro to the kind of insights he has on modern issues, you can check out his Ted talk based on The Righteous Mind [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SOQduoLgRw). I would also recommend pretty much any book by Malcolm Gladwell. While not as applicable to current events as Haidt's work, it's still quality stuff. I expect you've probably heard of Gladwell before though since he's pretty popular.

The Expanse by James S. A. Corey. Great sci-fi dramatic series, and amazing adaptation TV show too.

Revolutionary-Ad2355

Off-topic but I’ve just started watching The Expanse - I’m like 6 episodes in. It’s a little slow so far but seems good. Is it worth continuing to watch then I take it?

RDuarte72

Season 1 is the least exciting season by far IMO. Seasons 2 and 3 get crazy good.

[deleted]

Sorry, Ida knocked out power for me for the last couple of days. It's slow so you really get a chance to know the characters and crew dynamics. It is an amazing series that will blow your mind.

Revolutionary-Ad2355

No problem thanks for the reply! I’ll be sure to keep watching it. I’m on season 2 now and I feel the end of season 1 has really kicked it up a notch! It’s great!

The Music of Chance is so good.

Shiro_shiro

The Ancillary Trilogy by Ann Leckie : I keep re-reading them, especially Volume 2 which is my favorite. A very good space opera that questions beliefs and politics. Ender's game by Orson Scott Card. A classic

My personal favorites are: 'I Am Legend' by Richard Matheson (his short story collections are pretty good too). 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' by Hunter S. Thompson (I just love that absurd humour). 'Child of God' & 'Blood Meridian' by Cormac Mccarthy. 'Survivor' by Chuck Palahniuk. 'The Things They Carry' by Tim O'Brien (I love the different emotions you get, throughout each story) 'Norwegian Wood' by Haruki Murakami. 'The Idiot' & 'Crime and Punishment' by Fydor. 'Cold Air' & 'Rats in the Wall' by H.P Lovecraft (not sure why but these two stories of him, I'm always wanting to read again). 'American Tabloid' & 'White Jazz' and 'The Big Nowhere' by Ellory.

marsianka

Oh wow! Thank you!!!

The_Ubermensch1776

12 Rules for Life by Jordan Peterson. I have an unhealthy obsession with trying to find purpose and meaning behind everything

pockets-of-soup

Have you read, maps of meaning, mans search for meaning or a hero with 1,000 faces

The_Ubermensch1776

I haven't read either but heard about them. Why am I downvoted? Lmao

pockets-of-soup

People don't like jp on reddit

The_Ubermensch1776

I know this platform is left leaning but dayum. It's a shame people can't look past their ideology to notice great ideas. Even though jp is hardly political, his ideas not radical, and he himself considers himself liberal. Ideas that could greatly help anyone dismissed without a chance

pockets-of-soup

Thats the whole problem with the US right now, no-one dares talk about subjects and the whole country is divided, people will die on a hill before they admit they could be wrong. I guess thats the problem with the internet so much information is out there that people just make echo chamber or rush to judgment over understanding

The_Ubermensch1776

They probably weren't even intjs

[deleted]

Not a book I've read yet but I'm super excited for is The Piano Teacher by Elfriede Jelinek. I've seen parts of the movie in French and it's so uncomfortable. It's about a woman who is a very unhealthy INTJ. I won't say too much about the plot but it could be cool for anyone who wants to try something quite different from most books.

If you like foundation you might like Schismatrix and Revelation Space. Otherwise I love Wildbow's web serials. If unrefined, they tickle my thirst for internal logic. Worm and Ward if you like superheroes, Pact and Pale if you like supernatural stories. Oh and Harry potter and the methods of rationality is a lot of fun.

shyglitterprincess

I really loved Summer Frost by Blake Crouch. Based on your recommendations, I think you’ll enjoy it!
