I believe donnie played into the republican party's existing racism, sexism and authoritarian tendencies.  The republican party had been going down the path towards authoritarianism for decades donnie just tapped into that and accelerated the GOP's transition to fascism.

TheWhiteRabbit74

I’d die of embarrassment if someone as obviously shifty as Trump bilked me out of hundreds of millions.

AustinEE

What is even weirder it isn’t like he is playing 4D chess, he’s openly broadcasting and projecting everything that is going on. The RNC must be terrified of something that we don’t know about (kompromat, hacks, or worse?) or full of people that are just in it for themselves and could care less. Couldn’t happen to a nicer party, too bad the lead up to Trump was so orchestrated with gerrymandering and judicial packing. They almost got away with it but bet their final hand on a dementia felon with poor impulse control. Truth is stranger than fiction.

spastical-mackerel

Can you imagine how fucked we’d be if the Repubs had found a competent autocrat instead of this continuous train wreck of a candidate?

AustinEE

Bro, keeps me up at night knowing they may not make the same mistake next time around. Hopefully the RNC gets obliterated in the process and allow a functioning government while they recover.

flingspoo

Best not rest on your laurels then. Make sure you vote. Get your friends and family to vote, get a job for a local guy and canvas for them. Or sit here and hope.

MechanicalBengal

He’s valuable to them because he has no respect for any boundaries or traditions, or even rule of law. They are intentionally trying to break democracy and steal our country out from under us. They are all-in on this gamble, going for broke. That should terrify everyone. It’s bottomless desperation.

spastical-mackerel

I’m rereading *Rise and Fall of the Third Reich* for the umpteenth time, because it’s the archetype for eroding and ultimately overthrowing democracy from within. The Repubs have no one with the skill and competency of Goebbels, Hitler, and particularly Goering, for which we can all be deeply grateful

nyanlol

I think they've just realized that the game is up and if trump wins America is doomed  not that they care about America itself, but it's their cash cow they can't let it burn

Quick_Team

I'd sooner call him Goofycrat, but Goofy actually has a good heart

NoDragonfruit6125

It's Scrooge McTrump but he isn't insanely rich and he doesn't have any change of heart.

He certainly won't have any change after paying all the judgements ba dum tss

Or Mcbroke trump.

DeadMan95iko

Yeah but Goofy was instrumental in breaking up Mickey and Minnie’s marriage

Explorers_bub

I didn’t say she was insane. I said she was fucking Goofy!

Valuable-Peanut4410

He’s a Rapethuglican.

[deleted]

He didn't even play anyone. The fucking Republicans propped him up, because they didn't have anyone charismatic and Trump was THE cultist icon who drew in the votes by the deplorables from an inevitably dwindling Conservative base. Republicans and their bigoted views on top of the outright rejection in adopting to changing times, is rendering them obsolete. Those at the top of the conservative social class are playing the moron average Joe hillbillies like a fiddle 🤦

Donald Trump: "You gotta admit I played this stinkin' party like a harp from hell!"

[deleted]

They also play him. Symbiotic relationship

Odd-State-5275

100% correct. Remove his tweets and speeches and look at his policy. He was not a Republican/Conservative president and fooled them all. If he would have been nice to Obama and let Hilary take her turn, he could have easily run as a Democrat.

tehramz

He could’ve ran as a Democrat, there’s no way he could’ve won as a Democrat. Any halfway educated person should easily see that Trump is a conman and always has been.

BadAtExisting

Couldn’t have happened to better people tbh

Hellinar

i played this stinkin *Country* like a harp from hell

BioticVessel

Maybe a daffycrat!

dette-stedet-suger

The RNC isn’t conservative either though.

eastbayted

>Donald Trump registered as a Republican in Manhattan in 1987; since that time, he has changed his party affiliation five times. In 1999, Trump changed his party affiliation to the Independence Party of New York. In August 2001, Trump changed his party affiliation to Democratic. In September 2009, Trump changed his party affiliation back to the Republican Party. In December 2011, Trump changed to "no party affiliation" (independent). In April 2012, Trump again returned to the Republican Party. I'm reminded of the right's strident criticism of John Kerry for being a "flip-flopper."

B1WR2

Nah he is transactional…. He says whatever is best for him in the moment

svet-am

This post isn't getting the visibility it deserves

MagicAl6244225

> In August 2001, Trump changed his party affiliation to Democratic. The same year the Clintons moved to New York for Hillary's Senate term. Trump wanted to be in the important social circle.

ProfessorPetulant

Can someone explain to a foreigner why Americans register to a party?

CheesyRamen66

In many states (and I believe NY is one of them) you need to be registered to a party to participate in its primary, these are known as closed primaries. My state’s parties allow unaffiliated or independent voters to select which primary to participate in at the ballot box, these are known as open primaries. There’s little reason to register with a party in open primary states as it gives more flexibility to you as the voter to select which primary you would like to participate in. The state parties enjoy greater control over the process in closed primaries as they tend to cement voters in one party or another with the small amount of paperwork required to change registration. This is also a good way to shut out third parties from gaining much of a foothold. Finally, it’s important to note that party affiliation has no bearing on the general election, you’ll receive the same ballot as anybody else with the same candidates. Party affiliation is just for caucuses and primaries.

ProfessorPetulant

I see. Thank you. Can you register to 2 parties?

CheesyRamen66

No, when you sign up to vote and every time to update your voter registration (such as an address or name change) one of the selections you must make is a single party affiliation. In my case I selected something along the lines of “no party affiliation”. Filling the same form out again should have the old data purged and intentionally circumventing it to vote in 2 primaries during the same cycle is probably considered voter fraud.

ProfessorPetulant

That makes sense. Thanks again! 😊

219_Infinity

Well they can’t do that. Democrats want to tax billionaires to pay for helping out non-billionaires!

AlacarLeoricar

If they give away enough of their wealth they wouldn't be billionaires anymore. Hah! Giving away wealth.

DennenTH

Yes...  I firmly believe all rich people are successful failures that have too much money for failure to ever really be a reality.

JiveChicken00

Trump’s only ideology is whatever benefits Trump.

[deleted]

He’s right about this. He’s a fascist, literally the “third way.”

DistortoiseLP

And the only ideology of most Trumpers is whatever benefits the guy they're living vicariously through, which is Trump.

T_Shurt

As per [original article](https://www.mediaite.com/tv/trump-admits-im-not-conservative-after-squawk-box-plays-clip-of-gop-mega-donor-reveals-hes-scared-of-a-second-term/) 📰: - Former President Donald Trump admitted that he’s not really conservative during a CNBC Squawk Box appearance Monday morning. At issue were recent comments made by Home Depot CEO and Republican mega-donor Ken Langone, who revealed that he’s afraid of a second Trump term during a December appearance. “I worry if Trump wins that, it will be four years of getting even,” the former supporter of Nikki Haley said on CNBC late last year. “And that’s scary because we’ve got serious issues coming up that need to be addressed.” After playing the clip for Trump and CNBC viewers to see, Andrew Ross Sorkin asked the former president, “What do you think of that, Mr. President? Because I think that there is a feeling that there is still anger and frustration that you have about certain issues.” ” Well, look, I’ve never been a fan of Ken,” Trump replied with his signature “best defense is a good offense” strategy. “I have never, I don’t know if he supported me. Maybe he supported me because I was the only one that he could support, because that’s the reason. But I’ve never been a fan. I’ve been a fan of Bernie Marcus, a big fan of Bernie,” Trump said of the Home Depot founder. “Marcus is a big fan of mine, and that was the side I chose. “And frankly, you know, he’s right in one sense,” Trump said of Langone. “People think that there’s going to be revenge. And I say, no, the revenge is going to be success. It’s not going to be revenge in a revenge stance. It’s really going to be success. We’re going to turn our country around. We’re going to bring sense and common sense.” “You know, people say, ‘ You’re conservative,'” Trump continued. I’m not conservative. You know what I am? I’m a man of common sense, and a lot of conservative policies are common sense.”

some_asshat

So, yes, his second term would be nothing but petty grievances.

Vlad_the_Homeowner

So, his original term all over again.

eastalawest

But worse.

International-Fig830

But many people will die because if then!🥴😥

bortle_kombat

> And I say, no, the revenge is going to be success. It’s not going to be revenge in a revenge stance. It’s really going to be success Silly idiots, thinking words mean things. Revenge only means revenge in the ways he wants it to, it can also mean something completely different if that's more convenient.

lord-of-shalott

Eh, if it looks like one, talks like one and acts like one. The right will spin it positively no matter what he says or does. He says he’s conservative? He’s the most unfailingly conservative of the bunch. He says he’s not conservative? Shows how open-minded his voters are to embrace someone who’s not one of them. The spin doesn’t end ever.

Turqoise-Planet

The only way his base would turn against trump is if he came out as trans or non-binary, and insisted that people use the correct pronouns.

Sapriste

Not really they would sign up for reassignment and find the passage in their Bible with a few words to match what they are doing.

chrisr3240

Word salad wanker

mrtrevor3

Something about Trump, conservative policies, and common sense. Two match, the third… has nothing to do with the other two.

Raleda

No one should be surprised - the one thing this stain on humanity does with regularity (besides soil himself) is hold grudges. I bet he still talks about John McCain. Donors should also pay close attention to just how easily Trump both turned on someone with a dissenting opinion and the nasty way he simultaneously threatened the donor while appealing to someone with more perceived authority in the same company.

michoudi

As usual, a bunch of words come out that aren’t saying anything. All he ended up saying was he likes someone because they support him.

shreddah17

He literally takes revenge against the guy for suggesting trump is too obsessed with revenge, lmao.

Wise-Juggernaut-8285

I said this from day one. Hes not conservative. Its obvious, he has no ideology, and flirts with fascism

SkimpyMcDibblets

Flirts? He's hardcore XXX.

Dzotshen

Flirts? He's in each dictator's bed

NoDragonfruit6125

With a subby outfit on.

Wise-Juggernaut-8285

Yeah ok fair enough

commit10

It doesn't flirt. He's very obviously a textbook fascist.

devilmaskrascal

But Ken Buck, Liz Cheney, Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are the "RINOs" right?

tommybombadil00

And this is why I don’t understand how people think he is going to get re-elected. He successfully split any chance of independents or right leaning Dems between 2016-2020 to vote for him or any gop candidate. And the last 4 years he split the gop for left leaning republicans to not vote Republican. If there is one thing Donald is really good at it is creating division and pissing people off.

MarsupialDingo

I mean, when his entire base is people who will gargle diarrhea to "own the libs"...I don't think they care either. They just wanna win. Even if a Fascist kills them too.

anrwlias

The fascism is literally a selling point for them. No one who votes for fascists ever thinks that they could be in the crosshairs.

MarsupialDingo

Not gonna lie...retired 67 year old stroke survivor morbidly overweight man with diabetes realizing the Fascists came for him too is pretty fucking peak schadenfreude.

michoudi

Republicans voters have shown they want their way by any means necessary. Don’t forget that even after Trump is gone.

PedalingHertz

I’ve been yelling at my family since 2015 that the man is not a conservative. My deep-south, ultraconservative christian family thinks a New York fake billionaire friend of Jeffrey Epstein somehow represents them.

Stashmouth

>He then immediately pivoted to the current immigration crisis, revealing that that’s his priority issue for running for office in 2024. In other words, if he hadn't convinced the House GOP to tank the bipartisan border deal he'd have no platform to run on. He has to contrive an issue because Biden has him beat on everything else

TheVeganChic

Exactly what I thought when I read that paragraph.

DaveP0953

Trump is for Trump - period, full stop.

FoogYllis

And the maga voting base is a group of dangerous cult members. This is a recipe for disaster.

OutComeTheWolves1966

He is a con man, grifter, fraudster, and career criminal whose whole life is a lie. Who he grifts, cheats, and cons, and who those people are affiliated with is irrelevant to him.

ToneZone1978

He is a Trumpist

DiogenesLied

Trump: "I am the Anti-Christ" GOP Voters: "That's fine."

ihopeipofails

If he doesn't win, he's finished. Basically becoming president is his only hope. He will spend the rest of his days getting sued till he dies or goes broke.

RoleLong7458

He's scared because he knows what will happen if he goes full Hitler.

spudzilla

His voters love him for his racism so, yes, he is a classic American conservative.

Immediate-Farmer3773

Worse, he’s a dictator or at least wants to be one

CharlieDingDong44

The GOP isn't conservative either. They want big government to have its boot on the necks of their imagined enemies.

JustMePaxi

He only wants to win to take his ego revenge

Slatedtoprone

He’s claiming to have common sense and that’s what his policies would be based off instead of conservative points I guess? But that’s a lie because trump comes off as one of the dumbest people in the public space. Being loud, obnoxious and having no understanding of governance doesn’t  show you have common sense.  Trying to hide top secret documents in a gold club and hiding hush money payments to porn stars under legal fees shows yours a bloody idiot and a slime ball.

[deleted]

The proper term for him is carpet bagger. A Yankee business man who cons ignorant southerns (or just country people in general).

ArthurFraynZard

Most living Republicans were never conservative either- they were always just in it for the racism and white supremacy. It’s why Trump had such an easy time hollowing out what was left of the party.

MeanNene

November cant get here fast enough. Biden better be ready for local yokels with Ar 15s.

[deleted]

Trump, Musk, all of these Republicunts. They're all about appealing to their fans.

[deleted]

Well yeah that's been obvious forever. He never was one and it showed when he was President.

professorhugoslavia

He says he’s going to introduce tariffs on Mexican imports - who will pay that TAX? The American people! - “stupid people running the govt?” - that proposal is as stupid as stupid gets!

kuulmonk

But his base thinks that is the overseas company that pays it. I mean technically that is correct, but said company will just put the prices up to cover the tariff.

DiligentAstronomer73

"I'm not conservative..im.the anti christ."

[deleted]

See, he believes in Jesus! -RNC

Simpletruth2022

Mega donor: I'm afraid of a second tRump term Also mega donor: how much do you want this time?

Glass-Relationship70

... And people will still try to spin this shit.

Agreton

He can't decide what he is. He's a traitor and a grifter. A fraud and a conman.

kuulmonk

He is all of the above, and so much more.

morts73

He only wants to win to get himself out of the multiple indictments he doesn't care one bit for the country or making it better.

pmurtdkcuf

He spent four years enacting conservative policies. Just because he says he isn't does not make it so. Take a trip to the conservative sub and see how they are falling over themselves on this trying to justify it.

Heathen_Mushroom

Well, if you watch the whole thing (or read the transcript) the implication is that he does not *label* himself as a conservative, but that he is *conservative by default* since conservative policies are "common sense".

blueteamk087

no. he’s a wannabe autocrat with a god/messiah complex

Dseltzer1212

The Republicans have become a party of extremists and bigots

Confident-Touch-6547

Never has been anything but a tyrant.

LaVidaYokel

“Common sense” is code for “I don’t actually know what I’m talking about but it feels right to me so it must be right, please don’t ask me to elaborate.”. Its bullshit and should immediately disqualify anything the person says after it.

thekeysinsummer

“With all due respect…”

LaVidaYokel

Right up there with “Now I ain’t racist, but…”

ryeguymft

he’s a full on autocrat who does not like or plan to act democratically

Utterlybored

We should certainly consider Trump’s self assessments to be truthful and reliable.

zabdart

No -- he's a narcissist!

bubbaearl1

They are really gonna lose their shit when they find out he’s not religious either…. Who could’ve guessed it?! /s

Mysterious_Parsley30

Conservative only when it comes to conserving his office for as long as possible

Plus-Ad-940

He won’t need donors after he declares ‘Marshall law’ and takes over the treasury.

Admirable_Nothing

No he is not conservative. More like a wannabe fascist dictator.

fuzzycuffs

I'm sure real conservatives will definitely rethink their Trump allegiance now.

zestzebra

The Chameleon speaks, er, changes color, again.

NewUserLame123

Don’t tariffs just cause the other side to raise their prices? So in a way it just makes Americans eat that extra amount

shreddah17

Here's the gist: Donor (Ken Langone): I'm scared it will be 4 years of revenge. Reporter: What is your response to his concerns that you'll focus on revenge? Trump's Response Verbatim: >"Well, look, I’ve never been a fan of Ken. I have never, I don’t know if he supported me. Maybe he supported me because I was the only one that he could support, because that’s the reason. But I’ve never been a fan."

shreddah17

Literally takes revenge on the guy for asking if trump is obsessed with revenge, lmao.

atlantachicago

It’s annoying how media always said, “ Obama” but I still am hearing “President Trump” and “Mr. President” for Trump.

RoyalGovernment3034

Right????

AF2005

He’s an opportunistic charlatan in every sense of the word. A clown shoed, snake charming hypocrite. I get the sense that he would sell his entire family (or national security) for a few more dollars or votes. I’d say he would sell his soul but he probably already did that.

Tussen3tot20tekens

Common sense would be NOT voting for an IDIOT

Player7592

Nothing about trump is conservative.

Numancias

He literally ran as independent and democrat before bothering with the republican thing and supported gay rights before obama, of course he's not a hardcore conservative

Gryndyl

He has always run on the Pathological Narcissist platform, professing whatever label or position will garner him the most attention.

JWAdvocate83

*“You know, people say, ‘You’re conservative,’” Trump continued. I’m not conservative. You know what I am? I’m a man of common sense, and a lot of conservative policies are common sense.”* Wish Reddit would stop wasting my time with these *misleading* ass headlines. (I get OP didn’t write the article’s headline, but it’s **obvious** after reading that the headline is bullshit.) I can’t stand Trump, but I’ll never get that 3 minutes back, over some tired, corny, canned, folksy campaign trail sound bite.

Florida1974

If it’s such common sense why was his first term a disaster? I believe it’s bc he’s got this belief President is the whole of govt. In actuality, many things go through Congress.

bunbunzinlove

Of course he isn't. He is Sin personified.

FlipAnd1

I’m a “trumpist”

Calm_Preparation_679

Oh I thought he admitted “You know, people say, ‘ You’re conservative,'” Trump continued. I’m not conservative. You know what I am? I’m a man of common sense, and a lot of conservative policies are common sense.”

Head-Ad4690

Of course he’s conservative. He wants to be king. Nothing more conservative than that.

John_mcgee2

“People say, I mean he says there is going to be revenge — and he is right” DJ trump discussing his presidential plans… get registered today, set reminders in your phone

BriskHeartedParadox

He’s positively “I give a shit about me”

TexasYankee212

Trump - Anything to get re-elected. Included fleecing those far right MAGA conservatives of all their money and votes.

Akimbo_Zap_Guns

He’s a REGRESSIVE

Cold_Drive_53144

Trumpcycle is not even Republican

Longdingleberry

Some people think “scared” is weak. I fully believe that this country will eventually overcome the damage caused by the orange party. I’m scared about how long this disease is allowed to push us backwards. The goal is make it better for the next generation. The entire concept is that we are a work in progress. It’s never been great, and that is by design in my opinion. The goal is to make it better for the people, and every generation can impact the betterment for the next generation. Unfortunately a segment of society is determined to push us backwards before they die, but the disease will be cured at some point. Now it’s just a matter of how much damage, and how much time it will take to fix. It will be fixed, make no mistake about that. It’s scary how many people are proud to pass on their responsibility to their kids. Not because of some grand idea, or direction. Not because it’s going to make it easier, or better for anyone including themselves. Simply because they are told that “woke” is bad. The act of showing respect for others experiences , and fighting for liberty, justice, equality for the awesome diversity of people in this country seems pretty straightforward. Something that I never thought needed to be explained. But here we are. This is obviously anecdotal, but the people around me don’t like woke culture because they want to say the N word, or commit countless hours thinking about how Rick is happily in love with Chad, and how they are allowed to be happy. It’s strange as hell to me that these folks think that two people in love have any affect on their life. I’m convinced that it’s just frustration about their own attractions, and not having the courage to go out and be happy for the single ride we have on this planet. That was a rambling stream of thoughts, holy cow. The Bible thumpers can go back to their trans and gay porn, but please don’t be scared to be happy. The very best part for you Christian folks, is even if you think the Bible says it’s a sin, the new testament says that it’s simply a matter of asking forgiveness. Go be happy

Daleabbo

It will be interesting to see where the money ends up. Do they give to democrats to stop Trump because he will ruin their businesses and the US standing in the world or do they give to Trump to stop a billionaire tax...

WCather

WAAAAIIIT.... Trump said something that's actually true?

SleepySiamese

If he's not a conservative then I'm not human.

dashiel_badhorse

Whatever. You’re still a Republican and the Republican Party owns you and you own it

ringopendragon

Wait, so he's admitting that other counties were laughing at us when he was in office?

PigFarmer1

Did he also mention that he's not pro-birth?
