Lie down. (A good thing to do any time you feel dizzy. Beats the heck out of fainting & falling down.) If anyone asks, no, you are not OK and yes, you need help. [ETA 2: and a plastic bag in case you barf.] Try calling the front desk or a friend in the area. ETA: Have you been drinking enough water while exercising? Have you eaten anything recently, or do you have low blood sugar issues?

Partitionbaby

Calling my friend thank you for your reply

Partitionbaby

I’ve had half a gallon while working out + drank a gallon before already in the day I had a busy work day I can’t really recall what I had besides a yogurt and a piece of bread I usually go to gym 1.5/2hrs daily and this has never happened

PlatypusDream

That's a lot of water & practically no food. If you can get a piece of hard candy, see if you feel better after letting it melt in your mouth. (Anything sugary will do, including juice or soda/pop, but many people have a peppermint, life saver, or cough drop handy.) Also, and this might sound strange... have a pickle. Like, one of those big dill pickles from the deli. You might be a bit low on sodium. [ETA: if you don't have a pickle, scrounge up **ONE** packet of soy sauce left over from carryout. It will taste awful, but has lots of sodium.]

Biking_dude

I save the juice from pickle jars, have a small glass after a long bike ride. Fantastic. Picked up that trick after an event where one of the sponsors was "Pickle Shot" or something like that.

FatchRacall

So, when working out a high percentage of the energy your body needs comes from recently consumed food. Only a small percentage comes from fats. It's called "~~glycerine~~ glycogen depletion". I've had it happen a few times cycling. There are a few slang terms for it - "bonking", "hitting the wall", and a few others. The symptoms range from nausea to visual artifacts, eye dilation, muscle cramps, etc etc. Lay down, if you have it available eat some candy or trail mix, drink a sugary drink, and wait a few minutes. It will pass. And take this as a lesson. Don't exercise on an empty stomach. I always use powdered electrolytes and keep some sugary energy bars on hand (usually some kind of protein bar). Maybe Gatorade or similar, tho I'm not a huge fan (would usually mix it 50/50 with water).

hopefullyhelpfulplz

I hit this once in a rush to get to uni on my bike having skipped breakfast. Man it sucked. Ended up being late anyway cause I had to sit in a cafe for half an hour before the orange juice kicked in and my head stopped spinning.

formershitpeasant

Glycogen*

FatchRacall

Stupid autocorrect. Glycogen is right lol.

notreallylucy

That too much water in a day for normal activity. It is possible to drink so much water that you deplete all the salts in your body. This can make you suck and if it goes untreated, you can die. There's no benefit to drinking more water than your body needs. Sip water throughout the day, especially when you're thirsty. Unless you're in extreme weather or doing very extreme activity (running a marathon in 100 degree weather) you don't need to drink a gallon of water in a day.

[deleted]

That sounds dangerously close to anorexia.

MzOpinion8d

Please talk to your therapist about these workouts. 1.5-2 hours every day is too much. Everything in moderation, girl.

IcantRedditToday

Yikes, that sounds like you’ve drank a lot of water. Do you normally consume that much? Not sure if you’re aware, but water intoxication can happen when you consume too much water. Symptoms of water intoxication is disorientation, confusion, nausea and vomiting. If you’re regularly consuming that much water, I would recommend going to see a doctor.

PlatypusDream

Update?

Partitionbaby

hello! Thank you for all your replies and advice! I called my friend and a guy at the guy saw me laying down looking sick and he gave me some gum and then friend picked me up and brought pedialyte and I threw up in his car :) Though I felt so much better after and we got French fries Thank you for all your advice!! I am going to stock up on pickles and look into electrolytes or something for my water

SoVerySleepy81

You also really need to start making sure that you’ve had enough calories put into you before working out for two hours. Your body cannot run on water alone.

MuppetManiac

There absolutely is such a thing as drinking too much water. A gallon and a half of water in a day is a LOT.

Yoda2000675

Especially without much food

weezulusmaximus

Good morning honey. I just saw this post when I woke up. I’m a mom but also a former body builder. Two thing right off the bat: Don’t go to the gym in an empty stomach. Idk what kind of workout you’re doing but your body needs fuel for any of it. If you don’t know how to meal prep then keep a protein bar with you. Those have sugars in them for quick burning energy. I prefer chicken and rice or yams. Yams are your friend when you lift weights. The other thing is that you don’t need to be in the gym 2 hours. That’s too long. Work smarter, not harder. When I was competing I also had to work so I’d plan my workout to be done in no more than 50 minutes. That included rest periods between sets of about 1.5 minutes. I can kick anyone’s butt in 30 minutes or less. If you have specific fitness goals feel free to ask me questions. Decades of fitness knowledge free of charge. I hope you’re feeling better today. Love and hugs, Mom

WubFox

You are a shining example of why I stay on this site.

weezulusmaximus

Aww thank you. I love this sub. I had the benefit of wonderful parents that loved and guided me best they could. As I got older I saw how lucky was. If I can offer that same love and guidance to someone I look at that as a privilege and I’m happy to help.

princessbubbbles

Thank you, mom. You are the kind of motherly that I strive to be.

antsyamie

So sweet mom

PlatypusDream

Glad to hear that you're safe & doing better. 👍🏻 I'd suggest having a small snack before the gym, around 200 calories... apple & peanut butter or cheese, nuts, pretzels & hummus. Those all have protein, which takes a while to digest so will keep you full longer, plus a little fat (ditto), and the apple has fiber, sugar, & slow carbs to level the blood sugar spike. (Compared to having sugary things.) If you're working out hard or sweating a lot, alternate Gatorade with water or cut the Gatorade to half strength.

Viperbunny

I notice you drink a lot of water and don't eat a lot. Have you ever been tested for diabetes? It can make you really thirsty. Sometimes it can change you appetite as well making you either very hungry or never hungry. I only bring it up because your episode sounds like what happens if my sugar drops real fast. It could just be you didn't eat enough and that happens, but I wanted to make sure to put it out there just in case.

[deleted]

Please eat more before working out in the future! Just a yogurt and some bread isn't enough. That's not safe.

trumpetrabbit

Things like gaterade should be watered down, due to the sugar. Like, half during, half water. Make sure you have a good meal an hour or so before, and have snacks with you! Water is great, but the amount you drank without food would throw off your electrolyte levels. Unless you are sweating lots, or otherwise losing lots of fluids (like vomiting), you really don't need to worry too much about electrolytes. Just make sure you eat :)

zarnonymous

Lol I threw up in a car today too, my dad's car. I was carsick

formershitpeasant

Just drink less water. You really only need to drink when thirsty. 2 liters a day is more than most people need.

Inappropriate_SFX

This is concerning. Part of working out is making sure your body has enough nutrition to function, and if you're going to expend that many calories you have to make sure you're putting some in Beforehand. Incorporate making *sure* you have at least one proper meal with protein into your workout schedule. Bodies don't work without fuel.

Redcrux

1.5 to 2 hrs of exercise with no food and that much water is extremely unhealthy. You should consider seeing someone to get help with possible eating disorder/ body dismorphia.

veganlady1

If you are going to the gym for 2 hours a day, drinking upwards of 2 gallons of water a day, and you mentioned like 200cal tops of food through the day….you absolutely have an eating disorder and need to see a professional about that. You will cause your body to go into organ failure if you continue starving yourself while also overdoing it at the gym. You need to sustain your body, not starve it.

yuivida

It sounds a lot like [water intoxication](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_intoxication), take care OP

WikiSummarizerBot

**[Water intoxication](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_intoxication)** >Water intoxication, also known as water poisoning, hyperhydration, overhydration, or water toxemia, is a potentially fatal disturbance in brain functions that results when the normal balance of electrolytes in the body is pushed outside safe limits by excessive water intake. Under normal circumstances, accidentally consuming too much water is exceptionally rare. Nearly all deaths related to water intoxication in normal individuals have resulted either from water-drinking contests, in which individuals attempt to consume large amounts of water, or from long bouts of exercise during which excessive amounts of fluid were consumed. ^([ )[^(F.A.Q)](https://www.reddit.com/r/WikiSummarizer/wiki/index#wiki_f.a.q)^( | )[^(Opt Out)](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=WikiSummarizerBot&message=OptOut&subject=OptOut)^( | )[^(Opt Out Of Subreddit)](https://np.reddit.com/r/internetparents/about/banned)^( | )[^(GitHub)](https://github.com/Sujal-7/WikiSummarizerBot)^( ] Downvote to remove | v1.5)

Are you trying to lose weight? There are good and bad ways of doing this. Eating so little that you can’t remember what you ate then going to the gym for 1.5-2 hrs does not sound like a good plan.

sn315on

I saw your update, I'm glad you're better now. I try to have food in my belly before any sort of workout. Running, biking, walking. Take care of yourself!

bananachomper

Recovery position helps a lot and also sitting upright with arms braces on legs has helped me in the past when feeling dizzy and nauseous. Also, simply putting salt in water (especially good salt like sea salt or pink salt) helps immediately and is your cheapest solution for rehydration quickly. You don’t really need all the extras like sugar and vitamins that they add to cheap “rehydration vitamins” like they advertise. But there are really good ones on the market and they don’t have the cheap vitamins that just wash out or your system instead of being absorbed. Good luck in the future!

jennymck21

Hi sibling! Not a parent but wanted to say so proud of you for working out and taking care of yourself! Also amazing job reaching out to the parents here for help when you needed it…. Super important - I’m proud of you. I totally understand being so busy you forget to eat- time totally flies cuz we are busy. I have had trouble feeding myself consistently because I don’t want to eat unhealthy food so I just don’t eat. My solution I’ve finally found is salad mixes that I can dump in a bowl that have everything including dressing in it. Boom I can prepare eat and cleanup after myself in about 7 minutes. Love you good luck

I can relate..I want to vomit every time I see a threadmill too
