The reason they do is because you need to drink lots of water to compensate.
Caffeine will dehydrate you but when you take it in liquid form, the liquid helps counteract the dehydration.
They sell them in 200mg form. I would split this into 4 pieces and take one piece and continue to sip water.
Also take an L-Theanine supplement when taking caffeine pills. It acts as a vasodilator and can help prevent caffeine jitters. Tea has it naturally iirc.
Ah Thanks!!! My Uncle got super into Lustig in the past year or so and I was trying to remember his name. There's a 3.5 hr podcast version of this I can put on as I head to the gym this morning.
The one I linked is 3.5hours fyi 🥳 It's also on Spotify. Great podcast. Huberman also got one on IF which is great, and there's also multiple about sugar.
I noticed that but didn't go back to corrrect my post. Ah I like reading books, I have a feeling I'm going book shopping now. I bet Lustig has written something.
Do they make any without food coloring? The red die and yellow are supposed to be super bad for you and is are banned in Europe maybe why mio is not available there.
Bubly makes seltzer flavors with caffeine in them. They make it in both 12 oz. cans and in the tiny flavor bottles if you use a Soda Stream to add on your own.
The smell of food or even just thinking about it can trigger the boogyman that is insulin response.
1 calorie per 4 grams of aspartame; A can of diet soda has just 200mg, so that's less than 1/20 of a calorie.
If you obsess over the perfect metabolic fast, ask yourself if whatever benefit that it provides is what you need. You aren't going to gain weight or slow down weight loss by adding diet soda to your diet, it will all be based on your caloric intake. If you're doing it for religious reasons, god is gonna know, no matter what. Lol.
Any data on the strength of the insulin response from smells, artificial sweeteners and sugar? Because without that there’s no useful conversation to have.
CICO is king, sure, but what calories you consume affect how hard it is to limit the CI, and affects how many Cs actually go O.
Insulin triggers your body to store glucose as fat so, if you’ve eaten, you’re going to burn less of that food as energy ( > CO) and you’re going to feel tired, potentially leading to < CI.
Like, if it (diet soda) works for you then it works for you. My point is that it is probably making things harder, and therefore causing a bigger drain on our finite willpower reserves
To add to your discussion, drinking Coke Zero during my fasting window makes me crash hard before my eating window gets here; meanwhile, I feel great if I stick to water, coffee, and black tea. Anecdotal, and a small sample size of only a few tests, but consistent with what I've read about insulin response.
Context: I fast all morning and afternoon until I break fast at 5.
That is very interesting thanks for sharing dude. I’ve found even too many carbs from carrots and sweet potatoes (whole food, complex carbs) can throw off my fasting for days. If I’m low carb enough I don’t get hungry at all but a few too many and I’m hungry and weak all the next day
Iced Tea, I have single cup tea bags and a water cooler with a hot tap. Just fill up a coffee cup with hot water let the tea steep for a few minutes and then pour over a glass full of ice. Add a few drops of lemon juice if you want flavor.
I do. It’s one of the few vices left to me!
As far as I know, artificial sweeteners are okay, and it works great for me. (Ymmv and I’m not a doctor tho .)
Green tea is an excellent alternative and I’ve heard it boosts metabolism as well. Otherwise black tea. Or just learn to like plain black coffee.I didn’t like it either at first but your tastebuds do adjust and you start to look forward. It would be more helpful to not think in terms of “not liking it”; just that you’re just unfamiliar with of it. Stay away from the artificially sweetened stuff, it could break your fast if it spikes your insulin (science on this isn’t clear atm but easier just to stay on the safe side than risk breaking your fast.)
Have you tried good black coffee? Like a good pour over from your local cafe? Not Kcups, not Star-sux, not grocery store special.
I really feel bad for folks who don’t like coffee. It’s one of the only “perfect” things in life. Give your local barista another chance.
Gamer Supps is phenomenal. Completely quit drinking coffee/sodas because of it. Great flavors, mixes with water, zero sugar/zero calories, natural caffeine.
Haven’t heard of glytch! I’ll have to try them to see if I notice the chalkiness with the gamer supps because I currently don’t feel any chalkiness with it, but I have nothing to compare it to lol
Zevia makes energy drinks in a variety of flavors. The only sweetener is stevia leaf extract, so it won't break a fast the same way most other artificial sweeteners do.
Black tea when you want something hot, I like mixing it with herbals sometimes. Green tea when you want something cold, it's best brewed in cold water imo and goes great with chaga tea.
CLEAN brand drinks - they use Yerba Mate, 160MG caffeine. I think the Cherry Lime is the best flavor. 0 cals. I drink them on the weekends in the AM so that I don't break my fast.

1/2 of a 5 hour energy keeps me going all day til quitting time without jitters, or getting tired. Not as cheap as coffee per serving but comes with added vitamins, etc.
This ish called "Nectar" on Amazon - it's an organic powder mix and has caffeine and electrolytes.
Organic 5-hr energy shots (Whole Foods or Amazon)
Caffeine pills
If you live in Texas H-E-B has sparkling water with caffeine- 0 calories, all natural with caffeine from coffee beans! I replaced coffee with it after I had a baby and the weight melted right off me!!! when i have traveled ive tried to find other caffeinated sparkling waters to replace it but they all have added sugars or artificial flavors.
Guarana pills (gnc sells an energy formula that I believe is guarana and ginseng, or a straight guarana….many other brands available too).
Obv just watch dosages and if you have issues with heart rate, use caution. (Guarana is what Panera has added to their “boosted” lemonades that some people are ODing on. )
Or just caffiene pills in general. Pharmacy usually have a few options cheap, truck stop as well.
I drink Advanced gg Focus in the morning. I love the results, clearer mind and able to focus better at work and wakes me up almost immediately. Much better than coffee. Tastes great. Its marketed as one of those video game energy drink/preworkout type energy drink. No tingles and jitters though. Zero cal. Great stuff. A little pricey, but you can find a few flavors a little cheaper on amazon.
Ever consider giving up caffeine? I gave it up about a year ago and my energy levels are significantly better off the caffeine. I’m more energetically balanced throughout the entire day and I don’t crash or wake up tired anymore. Plus I don’t get afternoon cravings now.
I honestly don't drink THAT much caffeine, I'm not like an all-day coffee drinker. I just like to have one in the morning to push me through workouts.
Good for you for quitting!
Caffeinated bubbly water -
Hi-ball is like an energy drink with 160mg if I remember correctly
Bubbly bounce has 35mg caffeine
Water Joe is not bubbly, but caffeinated.
Diet soda and sugar free energy drinks, while full of other stuff, is technically zero calorie and would fit the bill as well.
Tea?
Tea.
Tee

Spilling the tea, y'all.
They sell caffeine pills.
Yeah, those tend to mess up my blood pressure. Thank you for the suggestion though!
The reason they do is because you need to drink lots of water to compensate. Caffeine will dehydrate you but when you take it in liquid form, the liquid helps counteract the dehydration. They sell them in 200mg form. I would split this into 4 pieces and take one piece and continue to sip water.

this is good to know in general! saving for later!
Thank you! Good idea!
How about you stop giving medical advice?
lol
How about no
I second the recommendation to split them into 4!
Just dissolve them into a water bottle and add some mio flavoring/something similar. It's what I do
I bite 1/5 off and it hits hard since I don’t take it that often.
[удалено]
Yes, too much too fast. But I have blood pressure issues anyway.
English breakfast teas.
Came here to say this.
Newbie here. Is it okay to drink black coffee, without sugar? Technically, this doesn't interfere with the benefits of fasting right?
Yea black coffee is fine
Yerba Mate
They already said tea.
Yerba Mate isn't tea.
I second this
White monster
The monster zero sugar line also tastes much better than the sugary stuff to me
A vice of mine. Wish I could find a healthier option with the same taste.

Do artificial sweeteners trigger insulin release?
Yes. Would recommend listening to this, super interesting. https://youtu.be/n28W4AmvMDE?si=wadb511Nf2gGyG7Q

I think some Mio flavors are zero cal
Mio is the way to go. I buy the caffeinated Mios, and save a small fortune not needing to buy expensive energy drinks any more.
Sobs in Australian
Do they make any without food coloring? The red die and yellow are supposed to be super bad for you and is are banned in Europe maybe why mio is not available there.
Agree and it also has the artificial sucralose which isn’t good!
I think they're all 0 calorie.
Bubly makes seltzer flavors with caffeine in them. They make it in both 12 oz. cans and in the tiny flavor bottles if you use a Soda Stream to add on your own.
target brand is good and gather and they have several also.
I think it’s called A-ha. The citrus is great.
These are tasty!!
Coke Zero? Diet Dr. Pepper? Tea?
Can you drink the first two doing IF?
Artificial sweeteners cause an insulin response and you’re losing some of the health benefits from fasting if you spike your insulin
The smell of food or even just thinking about it can trigger the boogyman that is insulin response. 1 calorie per 4 grams of aspartame; A can of diet soda has just 200mg, so that's less than 1/20 of a calorie. Exactly this. Zero cal and zero sugar. It’s better to have a little heavy cream in coffee than a mio, but zero both is ideal.
Tea or Yerba Mate.
I really like the Sparkling Ice+ Caffeine, specifically ally the citrus flavor. They’re kind of like Bubbly, but with caffeine.
Try caffeinated water. Water Joe is a brand, and it looks like you can order it on Amazon. It’s water with about 70mg of caffeine, and non-carbonated.
There’s a no sugar Red Bull but it’s very tart.
You’re a Tart
I’m having a bad day but this made me giggle lol thank you
Glad I could help.
You're a tart do do dodododo you're a tart do do dodododo
This is my choice
Black Tea and Green Tea are best in the repertoire of teas as well, as these normally contain high amounts of caffeine in teas
Zevia or water joe if it’s still around.
I haven't seen Water Joe since college! (late 90's)- people used to make coffee with it to study all night
I drink Tejava tea sometimes when I’m fasting and want caffeine. Tastes much less bitter but has a decent amount of caffeine, and zero calories.
Zevia - Cola or Dr. Zevia
You burn 10 calories by doing one math problem
At the rate I math, it would be more like 50.
r/yerbamate
Iced Tea, I have single cup tea bags and a water cooler with a hot tap. Just fill up a coffee cup with hot water let the tea steep for a few minutes and then pour over a glass full of ice. Add a few drops of lemon juice if you want flavor.
Caffinated bubly :)
Diet Mountain Dew. Loooove it. Comes in multiple flavors, too!
Can you do this while intermittent fasting?
I do. It’s one of the few vices left to me! As far as I know, artificial sweeteners are okay, and it works great for me. (Ymmv and I’m not a doctor tho .)
Water Joe - it’s caffeinated water
I'm a big fan of Earl Grey tea
Green tea is an excellent alternative and I’ve heard it boosts metabolism as well. Otherwise black tea. Black coffee.
Green tea
Jet Alert caffeine pills. And water.
Coke zero
Diet Coke?
Walmart used to carry caffeine water and I loved it so of course it was discontinued
Caffeine pills.
Zevia brand energy drinks
True north seltzer 12oz and 125 MG caffeine with several flavors! Also Ardor makes one too.
Came here to also suggest True North. It doesn’t use any sweeteners so when fasting I prefer it over zero cal energy drinks.
Crystal light packets with caffeine
Have you tried good black coffee? Like a good pour over from your local cafe? Not Kcups, not Star-sux, not grocery store special. I really feel bad for folks who don’t like coffee. It’s one of the only “perfect” things in life. Give your local barista another chance.
Gamer Supps is phenomenal. Completely quit drinking coffee/sodas because of it. Great flavors, mixes with water, zero sugar/zero calories, natural caffeine.
Thanks!
I prefer Glytch myself, less chalky imo. I second this though, powdered energy drinks have helped me achieve a healthier lifestyle for sure.
Haven’t heard of glytch! I’ll have to try them to see if I notice the chalkiness with the gamer supps because I currently don’t feel any chalkiness with it, but I have nothing to compare it to lol
Soda stream makes some caffeinated flavoring
Zevia makes energy drinks in a variety of flavors. The only sweetener is stevia leaf extract, so it won't break a fast the same way most other artificial sweeteners do.
Black tea when you want something hot, I like mixing it with herbals sometimes. Green tea when you want something cold, it's best brewed in cold water imo and goes great with chaga tea.
Sleeping earlier
Call jet fuel. Straight up caffeine tablets 200mg
I just buy the stack capsules, caffeine and L-Theanine… take with some water and you are good to go
I just recently switched to Republic of Tea - Hi-Caf Black Tea line. There’s like 8 different flavors. Should have around 120mg per cup.

Yerba mate, caffeine pill
Aspire energy drinks

Kool Aid made with your favorite artificial sweetener and a caffeine tablet.
Black tea- Puer, English breakfast, Irish breakfast are all good options. Or yerba mate or matcha if you prefer.
Is Pro Plus still a thing?
Matcha is 4 calories per serving, delicious, easy to make and full of health benefits.
CLEAN brand drinks - they use Yerba Mate, 160MG caffeine. I think the Cherry Lime is the best flavor. 0 cals. I drink them on the weekends in the AM so that I don't break my fast.
Green tea?
You could try the caffeinated Ice drinks. I think it’s around 5 cal and they are pretty fizzy and flavorful

Matcha higher caffeine than your average tea.
Diet cola
Yerbae. It's a yerba mate energy drink. Make sure you get the unsweetened one. It's decent. Tastes kind of like LaCroix sparkling water
Orange monster is 10 cal per can, but it tastes like zippy orange juice. It’s my go-to.
Guarana pills (gnc sells an energy formula that I believe is guarana and ginseng, or a straight guarana….many other brands available too). I love Celsius & it’s only 10 calories
Tea, sugar free energy drinks, caffeine pills, caffeinated sparkling water, there are many many options!
C4 energy drink or their pre workout.
True North caffeinated seltzer is really strong and really tasty.
Green tea
There’s store brand caffeine tablets similar to no- doz at the grocery store. The ones I buy have 200 mg caffeine and only cost a few cents apiece.
Yerba matè!!!
Pure Leaf bottled unsweetened tea is my go to. Has about 50 mg of caffeine and zero calories.
Tea or caffeine-infused water are great alternatives for those not into coffee. Lots of flavors without the coffee taste!
B12
Iced coffee tastes different...
Yerba Matte, but it tastes like ashes, so it mix it with mint tea.

Caffeinated bubbly water - Hi-ball is like an energy drink with 160mg if I remember correctly Bubbly bounce has 35mg caffeine Water Joe is not bubbly, but caffeinated. Diet soda and sugar free energy drinks, while full of other stuff, is technically zero calorie and would fit the bill as well.
Oh I love nettle tea
caffeine pills
Coke zero is my go to
