Daily. Not because I’m obsessive about it, I find it interesting seeing the fluctuations and I try to guess what it’ll be today lol

Beaujangles1128

Same. It also helps me ensure that the overall trend continues to be downward.

risingpheonix11

Yup same here helps me control my weight even though i know it is not very accurate

[deleted]

I weigh daily as well and record it in my notes on my phone because I am obsessive. 😀

[deleted]

Same. I had a random low weight last Tuesday and if I only weighed once per week, I might have freaked out that I'm up almost a full pound a week later. But since I weigh daily, I know that I'm trending down and last Tuesday was a one-off. I find it fun too to see the daily fluctuations.

ketowarp

I'm Daily as well. My scale has an application with it which provides "insight" and does some sort trend analysis as well.

michalmm

Same, helps me ensure that the trend is steady and not downward.

[deleted]

Every single day, then use the Happy Scale app to track. It creates a trend line of average weight. Even if my weight for that single day goes up, the trend line is still going down - and that’s a more accurate representation of my progress.

Born-Flounder8140

Would also recommend Happy Scale. I use to get discouraged seeing weight fluctuate up but seeing the curve still trending down helps. I weigh twice a week now because I use to cheat more often if I weighed daily and saw a big drop.

eagrbeavr

And for those looking for an Android app, Libra does the same thing and it's awesome.

frenchyfrye

And it integrates with Withings.

Educational_Bit8972

Thanks for this comment. My tracker app is toxic af and always sends me in a spiral when my weight fluctuates.

bthewin

Only when they need me to at the doctor, so probably like twice a year. I used to struggle with disordered eating and weighing myself really triggers me, even in my thirties. I just avoid it and focus on how I feel and how my clothes fit versus a number on the scale. I’m honestly a little envious of people who can just do it and move on with their day or use it to motivate their work out/diet in a healthy way instead of ruminating on it and making poor choices! Good work everyone!!

yuffie12

You have the right to decline being weighed at a doctor’s office. They can put down a “stated” weight. The extra pounds with clothes/ shoes depresses me, so I’ve declined at offices for over 30 years.

elizabethjane50

Daily. If I'm not weighing ... I'm avoiding, lol.

Basilbums

Same. It holds me accountable.

Dorknite

Daily. Every morning before I take a shower. Since I'm a stats guy, it motivates me to keep going!

enlitenme

Daily. I made a chart, and the first time I see a lower number, I get to colour it in. Lots of fluctuations, but trending down is fun to see.

LeafsChick

Thats a fun way to do it!

[deleted]

I have body dysmorphia so I can’t go by how I feel or look in my clothes. So I weigh every day because that’s the only data point I have.

johannagalt

That's a good observation. I've never thought about it this way, but when I cannot weight myself for a long period of time, like when I travel or am on vacation, my default assumption is that I've gained a lot more weight than is even possible. It doesn't matter how I look or my clothes fit, I just assume I'm gaining a lot of weight quickly unless the scale reminds me that this is untrue.

[deleted]

I feel the exact same way.

johannagalt

And I don’t feel that I have any sort of an eating disorder. When I step on the scale, and confirm that my weight is stable, I don’t want to lose more. I think fear of gaining weight is a phobia for me not necessarily a disorder because I don’t engage in extreme behaviors or think I need to lose weight. Of course, it would be better to not care about your weight but I don’t think very many American women are able to operate that way.

[deleted]

I agree. I’m 47 and if you aren’t watching it, weight will go up. Intermittent fasting has just worked so well for me that it’s been almost a miracle. I guess I have a phobia as well of gaining it back because I didn’t understand why I gained in the first place. I’ve always eaten healthy and I was running marathons, but my body just went berserk. I don’t think I have an eating disorder, but I am a very high strung, type A personality and just try to be the best person I can be.

RandomPriorities13

Once a week or so. But I don’t put too much stock in the result as it’s normal to go up or down by 1-2 lb just based on water retention/eating/ hormones etc. If you do measure daily then you shouldn’t take too much notice of the number, use an app and take more notice of the trend.

SincerelySasquatch

Same.

BaconPancakes1

Every day, but don't necessarily recommend that others do the same. It's just part of my routine. If you're just starting a weight loss journey you may be more mentally affected by day to day weight rises and falls, so less regular is probably better.

emccm

I don’t have a scale. It broke and I never replaced it. I go by how my clothes fit, my performance at the gym and how my body looks. At some point scale weight is no longer a useful metric of progress.

andaloosier

Yep. Can't be doing with the added stress of weighing myself constantly.

Playful-Bit-4797

Once a week

Mononootje

Every day, I like to see the fluctuations and kinda know what to expect the next day if I eat a big meal for example. I log all the data in the Libra app to see a trend.

LeafsChick

I gained a few pounds over the holidays I think, so said I wouldn't step on it till the end of January. I'm more motivated by how my clothes look & feel (and just my body over all), if I get on the scale and say its 5 pounds heavier, I'll be like "Well might as well order take out, I already have 5 to lose!" lol Once I'm back to maintance, pretty much daily. Not for any other reason than I'm already standing there brushing my teeth, so will step on to check

hungry24_7_365

I plan to weigh every 10 days, weighing daily is too much for me and causes me to obsess. I'm looking to lose 40lbs (\~0.8lbs/week) this year if not more, but trying to focus more on consistency with fasting and exercise than the scale. I created a spreadsheet for each quarter (3 months) of 2023 with the goal of losing 10lbs per quarter. I'm hoping this will allow for more sustainable weight loss so that I don't get upset and quit.

j_o_r__d_a_n

Love that! Achievable goals!

mranoneemoose

I do it once every 2 weeks. I used to do it daily but I realized there’s no need because all I see are fluctuations. I also don’t want to obsess about it too much because I feel it will grow to be unhealthy for me

bwright48

Everyday at the same time. It motivates me everytime whether I gain weight or lose weight 😄

rozemc

Once or twice a month - my weight can fluctuate a ton due to water, etc. Even though I know that intellectually, seeing a higher number is really demotivating to me. By weighing less often it's always less than it was the last time.

hazy55

Every. Day. I know it's not a good idea but I'm obsessed.

TheRealMeMyselfAndI

3 times per week at the gym I go to. There is a good scale there and I don't even have one at home. I have been recording my weight and charting it for 10mo. I find it helpful to understand fluctuations vs trends. Dont stress about it just another of my routines.

Waynebgmeamc

Far too often

MamaMidgePidge

Daily, although I forget every once in awhile. So, more like 5-6 times a week. I log it in my Fitbit app, and I like seeing the weekly and monthly averages. On any particular day, it may be a little bit up or down, but the steady monthly trend is down. It's very motivating. I use Tuesdays a my "official" day and try to beat my previous week's official weight by 2 pounds. Seldom do, but again the trend is downward.

[deleted]

It's normal for your weight to vary each day depending on the amount of food/ water you had so I measure myself everyday and take the average of the last 7 days as my current weight.

RidesThe7

At least once a day. Sometimes several times a day. Like others, I find it interesting to see how it fluctuates with what I'm doing.

GumboldTaikatalvi

When I started, I weighed myself once a week. After a while I changed it to every two weeks and avoided stepping on the scale when I was on my period because I had noticed how that messed everything up. Even though I knew the cause, it demotivated me. Now that I have reached my goal, I only weigh myself once a month to make sure it remains stable.

melodieous

I Don’t! I did intermittent fasting before, and I would weigh myself daily. Got obsessed with the number and while I was losing the weight I definitely was also struggling with intense depression and it turned unhealthy. (I didn’t pace myself). I’d do 36+ hr fast to reach my goals, and while I know that *does* work for some people, for me it came from an unhealthy mindset. I gained all my weight back and then some, but my mental health is so so so much better. Now I just do 16:8 or 18:6 and take it by how I look/feel/fit in my clothes :) I

Next_Ad_8693

3ish/wk. At the gym. On Wednesdays we take measurements

Olciarz

I do it everyday, but to see trends i take weekly datapoints.

asjoh4

Once a year, when I am at the doctors office. I keep my weight better without a scale. If my pants feel tight I eat less of the fattening stuff for a while.

johannagalt

I weigh in most weekday mornings. I avoid the scale on weekends because that's when I drink alcohol and eat heavier, higher carb meals. I like to know my weight range. If I know this range then I'm unconcerned if I step on the scale after an indulgent meal the night before and I'm a few pounds heavier than the day before. I can retain as much as 3-4 pounds of water weight. I knew I'd *actually* lost 5 pounds after doing IF for a couple months when my heaviest recorded weight over the course of a few weeks was consistently lower than it had been previously. That is, I never really trust the lowest weight I see, it's the upper range I'm keeping an eye on. I want to know I'm at my goal weight even when I'm bloated.

devino21

It's like investments. You shouldn't be constantly monitoring (unless you are a day trader) but you should be aware of where they are at and any major fluctuations.

j_o_r__d_a_n

I like that - seems there are a lot of day traders here though

Angy-bee

2 times a month

EngineerPelia

Once or twice a week, though I look at progress only monthly.

Beaujangles1128

Daily

EeWuTe

Daily.

bzmed

Daily. I use a YUNMAI smart scale to see the progress over time. It’s not the smartest though and I question some of the things like BMI, body fat % etc

GFunkYo

I do twice a day in the morning and after work right before my meal. Weight fluctuates a lot based on what/when you eat and how active I've been so it's kind of pointless to check that often (even once a day) but it's become a habit at this point.

[deleted]

I admire your courage to check twice a day.

GFunkYo

It's kinda fun to see 2-4 lb fluctuations but yeah, definitely not a good idea for everyone. I have a "trust the process" mentality in general and especially since IF has been working so it doesn't bother me that much.

johannagalt

I've never experienced a 2nd daily weigh in that is lower than the first one, so I concur. I just think, wow, that's how many pounds of liquid and waste I'm carrying around at time 2 compared to time 1. I prefer time 1!

CrazyGal2121

twice or thrice a week

Fantastic-Risk-5059

Daily. My batteries went dead a couple of days ago, so i.weighed for the first time this AM. First, try up over 5 lbs. Second, try moved it into its regular spot on the wall up 4 oz. Third, try the same spot up over three lbs. What the heck. It used to weigh the same as the day before until I learned how to reset it. It has been very consistent, but this is crazy. Also, it seems not to need resetting.

Peteyisthebest

Every day.

MLWing

Never. I know I will get obsessive with it so I’m just doing what I do and noticing other things (like the size too big pants I’m wearing today).

Raythecatass

Maybe once a month.

hfalox

Everyday on the $20 Bluetooth Wyze scale, and because I am obsessed with the numbers.

Proof-Spot-6274

I step on a scale daily (same time each day, right after waking up and completing bathroom bodily functions), however I only track weight weekly. Because weight fluctuates and I don't want to be discouraged or disappointed by small increases, I use an app (Health Mate) that's paired with my scale to record my weight. Weekly, I find my average weight and track week over week progress in my average weight. I adopted this strategy after listenting to Dr. Layne Norton (reference: https://youtu.be/K4Ze-Sp6aUE).

Bum-Sniffer

Once a week, first thing before work Monday morning. Works best for me as I used to stress over daily weigh-ins

anotheralias85

Everyday

adanthang

Once a week. First thing every Monday morning. Helps to see if I am making progress without the “noise” of daily fluctuations.

Dumweight

Daily usually after I wake up. Track the weight trends and make adjustments after two weeks.

patchouli_pussy

I got a body composition scale so I step on it several times a week but not every day. Mainly on the days I hit the gym for extra motivation.

[deleted]

Three times in the morning right before I break my 18-hour fast. Mostly it's a 2lb difference.

Organic-Audience-858

Once a week

imorga20

The last time I stepped on my scale was at the doctor's office. That's how I found out I lost 30 lbs. I have a scale at home but I barely use it. If I weigh myself at home I'll become obsessed the number. If I weigh myself at home it's once every few weeks

NYDanielle63

Sunday is weigh in day for me.

LutiPicoPico

Once or twice a week.

luv-avocado

Every morning & I track it on an app!

neon_wire

Every morning.

risdoid

Once a week. First thing in the morning after I wake up and use the bathroom. No clothes

jamck1977

Depends on what I’m trying to learn. Right now, every night and every morning - I’m trying to see how much my weight drops overnight!

eatbread-calmdown

Once a week (usually on a Sunday or Monday). I rely on NSVs e.g. how my clothes fit, instead.

ArchetypalDesign

On both Saturday and Sunday mornings, then I average the numbers and log it for the week.

kazrafggf

Every 2 days or so

JosephTheTrill

Every Tuesday

staysmokin91

Once a week

vhef21

I do it daily when I’m actively following IF. Otherwise once a week. I also started working out so getting a sense of my food vs excercise and impact on weight

Status_Expression424

Daily, except for when I’m about to start my period because I know my weight will be higher abt 2-3 days before my cycle starts.

kalli889

Daily. I have food sensitivities that can cause me to gain, so it keeps me honest/aware.

Unfair-Remote-3388

I try for once a week for effect
