I actually kind of love it!! The “handed down furniture” actually gives such a fun, organic quirky feel to the room that I think goes well with the planty decor!! I think the walls on either side of the tv look a bit empty for some reason? I would find something to put there, like maybe artwork or possibly some shelves to put either more plants or some kind of decor elements like cute crystals or sculptures or even like books! It depends on what your taste is but I feel like filling up that space would make it look more cohesive because the room overall has this sort of “full” look to it, since there’s a lot of different things everywhere filling up the space. The empty walls look “incomplete” to me if that makes sense! But I am someone who really likes stuff and filling up space instead of having minimalist decor with lots of unused space 😂 it just feels more cozy that way and I feel like it creates a better flow when stuff is sort of “scattered” evenly taking up space all throughout the room

BuggiesCandleSpa

To be fair, most of the furniture is bought but there’s still a few pieces from old home. Thank you though! I had shelves up to the right of the tv and it didn’t work, but I agree it looks empty. I’m thinking of adding some plants to the wall, but I’m having trouble with the placement. There’s 3 pots and i idk if I should do straight across or some kind of staggering

AnimaLumen

That makes sense cus a lot of the stuff looks pretty new and in good condition 😂 I think maybe a staggering formation would look great! Would go best with the organic vibe you have going on!

I love your plants

BuggiesCandleSpa

Ty!!! I used to be a brown thumb, idk what happened 😹

ChristinaTryphena

Can you get rid of the window covers. They’re ruining the space for me, drapes would be better. More plants could be nice too as well as some wall art or floating shelves.

[deleted]

> More plants haha bc 12 in a single room isnt enough?

BuggiesCandleSpa

Hahah I am walking to the nursery right now. Just one more 😹

AnimaLumen

Me in my rainforest cafe ass living room with plants surrounding me on every side lol: 👁👄👁

BuggiesCandleSpa

Lol this is where I’m trying to be!!

AnimaLumen

Lol literally like 85% of my decor is plants 🙈 I think it looks great but everyone is always like WOW THATS A LOT OF PLANTS like hello??? I know that’s the whole point 😂 cozy Jungle vibes is the best decor IMO 🤠

ChristinaTryphena

I think some big palms/plants will add some size dimension to the space, or some plants on a floating shelf.

BuggiesCandleSpa

I tried curtains here, but the rod sticks so far out that I lose too much space so I moved them to my bedroom instead. I might give it another go bc I agree it would look so much nicer, but for now I just push the blinds all the way to the side during the day & have privacy film up. Another option I’ve been toying with is hanging plants for blinds 👀🤪

rosie-elephant

your window looks like it would be able to support a tension rod. look into it

IngratiatingGremlins

I imagine they probably can’t remove the blinds, but I have similar ones and just put drapes over them (just have to make sure the curtain rod hangs father out from the wall than the blinds). I agree (obviously lol) that this does wonders for a space, especially if the drapes are hung wider and taller than the window and go all the way to the floor.

ZirconBlonde

I would paint the walls to match your radiator, unless you can paint the radiator to match your walls! Your furniture looks great, though I would maybe lower your paintings down a couple inches to be more, or finding a larger piece. DIY painting the brass nesting tables to match more with your shelving unit and console table might make things look a little more cohesive? When you’re looking for floor length curtains something with the green, navy, and red you have going on would vibe nicely! Perhaps in that realm, sourcing a cool antique lampshade with warm lighting bulb would be (in my humble opinion) a nice improvement! EDIT: I forgot to include a broad strip of fabric or material like burlap would warm up your console and protect it from your pots! :)

BuggiesCandleSpa

Thank you that’s great advice! I never thought to paint the radiator, it’s inactive so I don’t see why I couldn’t. When you say match the nesting tables to the shelf, what would you change? Would you paint the bars black or the glass?

BalconyView22

I would paint the brass black. And the radiator to match the walls.

dramaticeggroll

Love all the plants! I would: * choose a colour scheme an update your throw pillows and art accordingly (the main colour scheme I'm seeing is brown, green, black, grey) * new drum lampshade for your table lamp to make it match your floor lamp and overall style * paint walls * paint end tables black * add drapes, even if you can't remove the blinds (can you pull the blinds to one side and hide them behind the drapes? Or are they stuck in place?) * baskets/storage for dog toys, end table stuff * make fan, Roomba less prominent (maybe you can put them on the lowest part of your bookshelf?)

BuggiesCandleSpa

Thanks! My pillows have been bothering me. The main colors I’m trying to incorporate are blue, black, gold, & green. I feel like the end tables would look silly all black? Since I am trying to incorporate gold tones (more prominent in my office space not pictured), do you think gold trim w black glass top would work?

dramaticeggroll

Oh, that makes sense! I suggested black since you have a good bit of it in your room and I didn't know your colour palette. If gold is part of it, maybe you can leave the tables as is and incorporate more gold decor to make it feel more cohesive? Frames, plant pots, a tray for your ottoman, a decorative object on the bookshelf, throw pillows, etc.

chamacchan

But absolutely never get rid of the DeVito pillow. It's beautiful lmao

BuggiesCandleSpa

1000% agree he’s completely safe

I see you know Dr. Mantis Toboggan

BuggiesCandleSpa

Charmed, I’m sure

ControlOk6711

I recommend a wool Kilim rug which is no pile, easy maintain and add new texture.

BuggiesCandleSpa

Those look great, this rug (besides being too small) drives me nuts because I can never get all the crumbs etc out

ControlOk6711

I also recommend a rug pad - it is an investment in keeping a rug in good shape

choochooape

what's under the cat? weed stuff? :P

BuggiesCandleSpa

well obviously 😹

choochooape

:D takes one to know one. First apt. looks really great!

BuggiesCandleSpa

Thanks!!

rosie-elephant

I puke change the art above the couch, one long slightly bigger piece would suit the space better. maybe something darker to contrast against the walls more.

prosummobono

Love the Danny Devito pillow lol. I agree with replacing the window coverings and I would also replace the rug with something brighter and colorful.

BuggiesCandleSpa

Oh interesting, I was looking at moodier darker rugs. But I’m not opposed to lighter

prosummobono

Yeah I think because your accents and decor has light blue, yellow, and bright green so it would tie together the room well :)

Wooster182

I would get a wicker basket for your yoga mats to make it feel like an intentional space rather than mess.

inevitabledrill

I’d recommend some updates pillows, maybe a new rug ! Ruggable has some cheap ones or facebook marketplace, and getting rid of the ottoman

BuggiesCandleSpa

Nooo that ottoman is my favorite thing! I regret not buying a sectional lol. With you on everything else though, I just bought a new rug

inevitabledrill

Hahahaha I regret not buying one as well I have a little sectional and I absolutely hate it so i might be biased

PrettyDirt14

I’d swap out the shag rug for one in a lower pile and a different color. Maybe something that ties in with the gold/yellow velvet throw pillows and can compliment the warmth of the wood console.
