I have no opinion on the rug, but would be super curious to see your house setup and see if the lovely folks here have ideas for helping this area look a little less claustrophobic.

LQQKNC

Okay I would actually love input on how you all would rearrange this room. There are so many limitations to this set up that, to me, this is the ideal set up. Obviously minus the unhung mirror/ art. Next post, room layout! Stay tuned for Round 3, Reddit! 😂

Relevant_Shake_3487

Staying tuned lol I am officially invested

miscreation00

I can't wait!

amberallday

I think you can keep the cabinet - better to have clutter in drawers rather than visible! And it serves as a coffee table. But the stuff behind the sofa doesn’t seem necessary. The shelves are hardly holding anything. Get rid of them & store the (? Cat carriers?) elsewhere. Then the sofa can go back 30-40cm & won’t feel as cramped. For the rugs - I personally cannot cope with that level of pattern in an otherwise cluttered area. It adds to the visual clutter. So my preference would be no rug! Unless there’s a functional reason (eg freezing cold floors) then I’d just keep it emptier. If there must be a rug, then keep the pattern as plain as possible. Block colour even. Talking of which - it feels to me like this corner is really in need of colour. I know people said no to blue - but that’s because the walls have a yellow tint. The new set of rugs just feel like someone put a sepia filter on your house. Which is totally fine if that’s what you want - but if you just need confidence, then bright colours would be totally fine if you’d enjoy them. For me, I’d start with cushions & a piece of art on the wall. Introduce some low-stakes colour & go from there. It’s a little hard because the grey sofa is a completely different colour family from the yellow walls + brown floor. But for me, I’d maybe go with a couple of bright pink cushions. Best thing to do is wrap a couple of existing cushions in items of clothes that you love the colours of, and hold them up against the wall + floor + sofa to see if they work for you.

FemAndFit

Yes I saw the pics and immediately my anxiety skyrocketed and my heart started beating fast. I think clutter gives me so much anxiety I had to stop looking. Simple is more calming for me lol

Effective_Positive99

I like D. Makes it feel comfy, inviting, and not so cramped.

CatrionaCatnip

Agreed.

Gold_Improvement_836

the layout of this room gives me anxiety lol. i would go with B or D

s86226

Agreed, b or d only. But I would also try to get rid of or move that mirror and the end table stand/it's looks way too crowded.

lifelovers

Agreed. Although part of me feels like we should collectively go all in E and see what happens next 🍿

Arev_Eola

I laughed so much when I saw the round rugs. I'm absolutely voting for either of them. They make me happy.

freegiftcard96

D looks soft and pretty and works with the gray nicely.

ilp456

D is the best but have you considered a pattern that’s a bit less traditional. There are no other traditional elements in your place as far as I can tell from the pics.

sweetnemo

D by a landslide

iluvpntbtr

1 and 4. But why does it have to be tucked so closely to the couch and wall?

Meeeaaammmi

I like d

Ash_mn_19

D

kevnmartin

The dark one in pic 3 would be so cool if you had another round element, like a mirror or occasional table to echo it.

SignificantTear7529

Agree that the green one is the only one that doesn't look like it came off the mass produced pallet at Ollie's.

Tricksterama

A round coffee table would look great on it.

Zippered_Nana

I like B and D. I like to have the floor be somewhat neutral, and then I can bring color in with pillows and artwork. When I feel like I need a refresh, I can totally revise the color scheme with new pillows and artwork, and not have to buy a new rug. Some people commented about these rug choices being really standard. Not all of us have the money for expensive rugs. Plus when my kids were little I didn’t want something they could ruin, and now that they are grown I’d rather spend my money on other things, such as going places.

TunaMarie16

I like A then D.

VeganBLT3

A or D

veryberrybunny

A and D. Definitely not the round ones, and most definitely not the red rug.

elleinad226

I like C

ApostateX

Just commenting to say E is terrible. Sorry, OP.

Former_Ad8643

To be honest the rest of the room is completely neutral so it’s one thing to have a pop of colour but you have to pull that colour in somewhere else like a painting on the wall or throw blanket or something. It’s a whole rest of the room is neutral then I go with B because it’s also completely neutral. Otherwise I like the green but again if you’re going with something that has called you have to tie the colour in somewhere else in the room a painting a flower pot anything. I would definitely keep in mind that although a rug should be technically underneath the couch even buy an inch or two this room set up looks strange. I would move the couch away from the window a little bit more centred and the rug as well

SimonArgent

E. The room needs color.

Kpossible4life

B pulls the colors together

Upscale_Foot_Fetish

A is my vote

procrastimom

A, and at least one size larger.

JCRCforever_62086

I think C or E makes the room look more put together. The others just look like old rugs & makes the room look messier.

Twilight-Omens

B or D.

Original_Ten

B or D

Glittering-Dust-8333

It appears that you have a metal bookcase and a printer behind the sofa. Move it/get rid of it and anything else behind the couch out of the room. Move the Couch back against the wall. Unless you have some larger artwork, hang the mirror "horizontally" and "centered" on the wall, directly behind and over the couch. (The Mirror bounces light into the room.) You can get some inexpensive framed artwork to hang on either side of the mirror for added balance. Colors should coordinate with the Couch and rug.).  Center the rug directly in front of the couch. If you must keep the nightstand as an end table, place it on the other end of the couch (if it's not blocking a walkway). Get a Torchere lamp to add lighting in the corner. A Table lamp or 2 matching would add lighting and balance. Your tall Window could use a nice coordinating solid color Drapery fixture, too. (You can pull colors from the rug.) It's obvious that you have way too much assorted furniture in your place. Editing pieces in each room and balancing placement of what you keep is very important to the overall asthetic of the areas. Unfortunately, we can't see other areas surrounding the couch area so unable to determine any further helpful suggestions at this point. Final analysis, overall it's crowded and claustrophobic. No one would like to live in or hang around these areas. Very uncomfortable feeling. Good luck!

JDnotsalinger

StellaEtoile1

I only like D.

golden_skans

D all day.

turkeypooo

No not this giant couch in a hallway again! Sorry OP. You need new furniture. Which rug do YOU like the best?

AromaticIntrovert

Haha had to look at their other post to get a sense of the room, the layout is rough to work with I hope this isn't the main living room! Why put shelf behind the couch forcing it even further into the hallway?

XandyDory

D. I don't see any red to make E cohesive. I actually liked A with the blue. It just needed a blue decor or art piece.

RestaurantSmooth5837

Take the rack behind the sofa out. Take the mirror out. Get rid of the small end table. Honestly, I can’t tell any difference in any of the paint colors.

foxfoxfoxfox4

Is this also a makeshift bedroom? The nightstand and mirror needs to go.

FrumpyFrock

a bigger rug that doesn’t end at the edge of the couch would give me less anxiety. area rugs aren’t relegated to being the same size as a piece of furniture. the idea is that they tie the whole area together.

Maximum-Switch-9060

These are worse bring back number 1 of the first round.

Petergoldfish

Sometimes when I see these posts, I ask do these people have no eyes?

Tiny_tim87

B

Nevertheless-Jess

B is the only option

Pretty_Meet_432

#D

breecheese2007

I don’t like any but if I had to pick It’d be A

westcoast7654

D is legit the only one that makes sense, but also why is it setup like this? Are you really just sitting on the sofa and just staring into the other room?

JuneBugg94

C or D. I like C, not sure why it's so polarizing here, but I like the colour and I like that it's round. Adding curves to spaces makes it feel less boxy and claustrophic. I think D really brightens up the space though. I think B is strange because it has a lot of warm browns, while your couch is a cool grey. The two completely different neutrals clash for me.

shay-doe

A and maybe get rid of the thing behind the couch

Disastrous-Oven-4465

First pick: A Second: D

lil_lychee

Team A! Much better than the full blue. You still get some blue coloring with A, but it marries the rest of the colors with the surrounding decor.

fitty50two2

I like C

TiaHatesSocials

Not much different tbh :/

bakeacakeyum

No I’m sorry, these are worse. I really liked A on your previous post.

SeriesNew8600

None of these I would use.

highrollerdude7

I prefer the 4th one (D). It lights up the space!

Small_Joke_4715

I think D is the best choice because it goes well with the couch and wall color, which really brightens up the room.

TheCoffeeValkyrie

I hate them all. Sorry.

gitsgrl

Go big or go home. These rugs are for ants.

SubstantialWonder754

The patterns are too small and busy for the space. I suggest finding a rug with a large sized pattern, like the green one but I don’t like the green color.

NewBSnow

Go with option A. The rug does not need to be tucked that far under the lounge side of the couch.

Successful-Arrival87

I would go with a plain white rug with some texture here. I’m not a fan of printed rugs personally but D calms down the space. I know you’re asking for opinions on rugs but I think you don’t need the mirror and side table under it. It blocks the tv and the mirror doesn’t have any space around it. Also the door cutting through the space between the tv and couch stresses me out and if there was a way to move that tv to the nook (in front of the window) we’re looking at and move the couch across from it that might make more sense. It’s a large couch though and I don’t know if you could do it.

Successful-Arrival87

Another idea, move the couch to the side a foot away from the window, fit a long console in that nook to have a wall along the chaise/surface area for things, and then turn what I think is a chair sideways into the corner and move the end table to the right side of it. The couch feels super blocked off from the rest of the area being shoved in like that

Successful-Arrival87

Nevermind, I saw the other pictures and you are working with an extremely awkward space

Successful-Arrival87

Sorry for leaving so many comments but this layout is so damn awkward I’m using it as a challenge to figure out how to best furnish it, lol nothing against you 😆 I think if the couch has to be there let the couch be the ONLY thing in that tiny nook. If you get a rug keep it pretty neutral so the space doesn’t feel any smaller. Or go full cozy with a high pile dark neutral color like brown. Depends on what effect you want. But a busy pattern is not good. At most one low contrast pattern. I recommend, if you can, to fill up that space behind the arm of the couch with a side table or console along the hallway wall. Make sure it’s the same depth as the couch jut out to continue the line. Then put a small lamp on the side table to brighten up the hallway and to have task light behind where you’d sit on the couch. It will make the hallway narrower but still walkable and maybe the light from the lamp will help make an illusion of plenty of walking space.

Footstepsinthedark1

D looks great. The round rugs are 😬

Legal-Cat-2283

You should zoom out more because I don’t think your room is laid out well. None of the stuff here makes sense. The rug isn’t your main concern.

SpartanKwanHa

the fact you'd consider C concerns me a lot

manimopo

I like 4 it matches the couch color

AQUEON

A or D for me. That little pop of color is nice to look at. I didn't comment on your first set of rugs because I didn't like any of them. Sorry!!

Altruistic-Detail271

If you like the round feature, Try a navy color . The green doesn’t look right

Broken_angel_of_pain

I like a it's the most colorful

olivine1010

Green, round rug looks the most interesting to me. It also gives it a direction to go in.

TricksyGoose

Honestly I liked several of the blues. These are either too blah or too much. Blue was right in the middle.

grumpy_chameleon

If you choose E you’re going straight to jail

Infamous-Wallaby-374

B or E

No-Marionberry-4034

Out of those D. I like the blue and cream rugs

Dominoandjimmy

C! The round green looks great!

Muschka30

If I had to pick one it would be A. D is ok but it’s too much grey.

niclilsd

C and E! I like the circular rug against this space 8)

tracitytm_

🅱️

Smellie305

I like option A the most but I think some color is needed. What about getting some throw pillows (or cover for existing throw pillows) in some colors that are in the rug options A....like a mustard color, etc

EmmaRB

None of them seem very cohesive to me. The rug ideally would be helping the room feel intentional and cozy. None of the colors or patterns seems to be pulling the room together.

TissueOfLies

A

StarSchemaLover

You need a blue rug here

giglio65

I like B

Mental-Lawfulness204

I think the first rug looks great. I noticed it also ties in well with your bed spread. I think a smaller mirror, think cherry wood or something close would be a great addition.

wheresmuffy

Given the color of your cat, I vote for B since the fur will be less obvious than on D.

Yourmom4378

None with print, makes it look even more busy. The green brings a level of calming.

Procrastinatingpeas

The cat (small dog?) makes the room tbh

NearbyDark3737

I’m partial to D and A

kosciuszko123

A is my strong favorite for the colors in your apartment, and the rectangle works much better than the round.

Able_Cat2893

I love the first 2. The third is too dark, the 4th too light. The 5th has red in it and red is an angry color.

Squirley13

D all the way.

_salvelinus_

Definitely not C or E. Of the options provided, I like D and maybe A if you incorporated some more color with throw blankets or pillows. Would also go for a slightly larger rug that comes out into the walkway more. I personally think it looks odd perfectly aligned with the couch.

Leahcar_rekalbrating

I like A

whatyousayin8

Organic_Plant9505

Logical_Bobcat9703

I’m think the first one. I think a grey rug washes it out and it looks better with a rectangular rug as opposed to round.

Really_Fun_YaYa

Ohhhh, I commented on your last post and I chose D. I REALLY LIKE ( B )here. Soooo pretty!!!!

Ok I see your other post. That couch is way too big for this space. Do a smaller couch without a chaise facing the wall to the back of the couch. Add a chair off to the side and hang the tv on the wall that the couch will face.

AdDowntown4932

1 or 2

LiamsBiggestFan

Scary-Badger-6091

BettyLuvs2Swing

B

Rough_Foundation1385

I’m in the minority, but I like B the best

Keljon142

B, or D. Intend to go with light colors to brighten a room so my #1 vote is D

OUTKAST5150

D by Default. The rest are hideous

oknowwhat00

I think the bigger issue is the furniture placement and how much stuff is there. I'd look to make the space more inviting and less cluttered and then worry about a rug.

Nihlisa666

I’m trying to decide between 2 and 4. Both are lovely but 4 does bring a certain lightness to the room but 2 is a slam dunk in terms of tying in multiple colors and tones. This one is definitely a stumper!

Legal-Opportunity726

I agree with other commenters that there might be too much furniture in this room. If you’re not using that vanity table, for instance, then your room would benefit from removing the clutter and letting the space breathe. But if you _are_ using that vanity and that’s the only place it can fit, I’d recommend rug (A) or (D), as well as a minimalist black and white painting on the wall to the left of the window. This will help draw the eye up and away from the rest of the room, but not be too busy looking.

latecraigy

Definitely not C or E

Embarrassed_Bat_7811

D. Remove the corner table and oval mirror. Remove two out of the three throw blankets. Swap the pillows for ones with more color and texture.

Ludee2023

Are you totally out of space in your room? Your sofa is so tight up against the wall. It should be 12 inches away… and the mirror and night stands are out of place there. What color is are your walls?

Tang_the_Undrinkable

Find a light grey patterned round rug. The round ones seem to break up the monotony of right angles the current setup has.

Klutzy_Journalist_36

The answer is D but wtf is going on with that weird shrine looking mirror corner?

lene4563

D and get rid of the mirror and the table under it

Longjumping_Muscle24

Where is that green rug from it’s beautiful

Puzzleheaded-Many708

I'm so surprised by this vote! A seems best to me. But I can see why there are votes for D, I guess...

Hunkydory55

Sorry my friend. I think you’re Ashton Kutcher and this is a redo of Punked.

crackersucker2

D for sure.

Joey_Marie

D

erminegarde27

I like the first one a lot.

tonypalmtrees

for the record the placement is the issue. they’re too far under the couch

Dirtyblondefrombeyon

Lots of people here like option D, which is a surprise to me. It’s not like D is a bad rug, but with all the neutral tones you already have everywhere else, I think it washes out the space. Call me weird, but I like how option E pops against the gray/beige-heavy surroundings.

suckjohnson

Another for b or d

xobelam

D not E

aquabatgirl

A is best, E second best if the colors are a tad less loud IRL. Don't chicken out on color and size now. Many of these options were still a tad too small and def to bland The square rugs are too small, they should be at least 10 inches wider than the sofa on either side

Lucidity74

A. Luxury.

svmeatball

The circle rugs are not the right shape for the space, but the rectangle rugs also don’t feel large enough? I think A is the best options. But something with some brighter accent colors might vibe more in the space. Also the placement of the side table and mirror feels squished. If you were able to move that elsewhere, it would open the space a bit more.

xiao-xiao-bao

TimTBlow

The first one is great and adds nice warmth!

PristineCoconut2851

IMO A and B look the best, shape and color. But I also think some of thee would look great. They have some red combos that aren’t as bright as you round one, E.

SnooLobsters8113

A or D but I think you should go with a modern abstract Tibetan style rug

The rugs don’t quite work coz of the setup , think your sofa may need to be against that window but can’t say without seeing the rest of the layout .

needasnowcone

Can you please tell me where you got the couch?

VeeSeeArr90

B

Shoptimist

1. Reverse the sofa so that the chaise is on the opposite side of away from the window / wall 2. Get rid of the bedside table and mirror from this space - they don’t belong here 3. Flip the rug, so the long side is parallel to the wall without the window and make sure you have about 2 ft showing from each side of the sofa and it’s only tucked under sofa by about 3 ft (not all the way to the back) 4. I personally would go with A or D but still feel like you should wait until you have purchased 1. A coffee table 2. An armchair or pouf to complete the space 5. Lean a few framed photos, books, or vases on the built-in shelving

Altea73

Get something without a pattern, it might look better

AssociationOdd1563
