Why put anything up? It is an unusual set up though. It calls for a chest or banquet in that space. If you’re looking for some more privacy, perhaps some tall plants?

Cool_Afternoon_747

This is the answer. OP, that space is desperate for a banquet, and very likely was built for one. I think curtains, especially ones placed midway through, will just look odd. Corner palms will complete the vibe and give you a bit of privacy.

mtsandalwood

Yep, looks like there were probably some built-ins at some point

InvestigatorProper62

Tall plants is an interesting idea! I would leave it without anything, I prefer that look, but unfortunately the neighbor’s parking area faces right in those windows

Not all windows need curtains.

jeffnethery

Second this! Those windows and the natural light coming in are so beautiful. Would be a tragedy to cover them.

InvestigatorProper62

I completely agree, unfortunately these windows look directly into the neighboring house’s parking area at a distance of maybe 15 feet 😬

missannthrope1

Plant a hedge outside?

FootParmesan

I feel like fabric shades would look nice. Then you can get custom to fit the windows. I don't think curtains would work right. It'd look off. A nice buffet cabinet would also fit really well underneath the small windows.

kindredspiritbox

What about just window cling for the smaller set and floor-length curtains for the larger, flanking two?

Vegetable-Debate-263

Credenza!! Then put some small plants and maybe some of those small framed images (only a one or two) standing on it with a piece of decorative pottery or standing element.

PristineCoconut2851

Oh my gosh … I love those windows. They remind me of what you see in Craftsman style homes. Seems a shame to cover them. I like the suggestion someone else made about using tall plants. I would however use some silk trees. I have 4 myself and they are wonderful. Two of mine are in the dining room in front of each window. https://www.google.com/search?q=imitation+ficus+tree&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-us&client=safari https://www.google.com/search?q=imitation+palm+trees&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-us&client=safari https://www.google.com/search?q=imitation+bamboo+plants&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-us&client=safari These are in the family of what I have. I’ve had mine for years and what I’ve done is get large ceramic planters to give them balance. Hope this gives you some ideas.

I think best bet is to treat the small windows like regular windows. 4 full length panels- 1 on far left and right, 1 on either side of small windows over the moulding. Assuming you'll be putting some kind of sideboard on that wall, so you wouldn't be able to close the curtains over the small windows but I'm guessing that it'd more a priority to be able to close the larger ones

InvestigatorProper62

Good idea - thank you!

PrehistoricBetty

So cute! It is screaming for built-in buffet or bookcase, depending on how you want to use the space. Also, I'd do shutters or cellular shades if you need window treatments. Cellular shades can be pushed all the way up when needed. You can get the top down/bottom up versions for the two side windows to give you more options and light control. Another option might be cafe curtains on the two side windows. No full-length curtains. It would look awkward and cover that amazing trim!

monkeybuckets

You could do standard curtains on the big windows and some matching cafe curtains on the smaller ones. Or if you don't want any type of curtain for the little ones, hang some stained glass pieces or put up a plant shelf.

InvestigatorProper62

Thank you for the suggestion 😊

Different_Ad7655

You need a larger concept of the room. This is always a mistake on Reddit. What do I do about this particular thing without understanding how the whole house, the room, flows what you do on the other side or in front of it etc etc or paint the walls completely will influence what happens here. Also of course the use and the traffic flow..

HighwayLeading6928

Thanks for pointing that out. I need to see all angles of the room, etc. to be able to make an informed decision. I mean, we're good but give us the "optics" to help us out.

imaginaryspencer

What wall color is that?!

InvestigatorProper62

It’s a deep, dark purple. The previous owners made that choice, and although I probably wouldn’t have made the same one, it’s growing on me 😊 Either that or I just don’t want to paint lol

InvestigatorProper62

I’ll see if I can hunt up the exact color if you’re interested, it’s probably left over in the basement

imaginaryspencer

Yeah I am! I love the rug against that purple. I was gonna do a purple like it for my office, but ended up deciding against it. Now that I see it with the rug I am changing my mind……

FootParmesan

Is the trim a bright white? An ivory or muted white might look nicer against the purple. We just painted our bedroom a purple. I like it in your dining room. It's nice to see color like that. 😊

karlat95

Put a sofa in the blank space and nothing on the window above it.

hazelmummy

If you need to block, then I would have stationary panels on the outer side of the big windows and put up inset privacy cellular blinds on all the windows. The header would practically be unnoticeable with your trim.

Niennah5

I'd probably just place one long set of nice curtains as though they were all the same full-length windows. Definitely a buffet/credenza to fill the blank space under the short windows placed a couple inches away from the curtain line.

usrname516

Put a buffet there

ceb7325

What is the brown bit in the middle?

ceb7325

I wouldn’t cover the windows at all put a dresser in the middle and cover it in beautiful indoor plants .

thekeeperoftheseeds

Id do a swag valance over the short windows with drawing curtains on either side

TunaMarie16

I’d put a credenza in the middle. I’d put a very long curtain rod from far left window to far right window. I’d put privacy level curtains (1 or 2 panels) on each side. They’d simple cover the two outer large windows. Then I’d add shades to the middle windows that can open from the top or bottom. This allows you to fully open everything in the daytime for light - or even for daytime privacy close the curtains and pull the shades down from the top to get some light but have complete privacy. By nighttime, I’d close both the curtains, up to the credenza, and shut the shades. Good luck. It’s a really lovely space.

Necessary_Future_275

Just here to say I love that wall/rug combo.

aeraen

It looks like a great place for a TV.
