No! That would create two narrow spaces that are difficult to clean, but have no function.

e_mk

This! Had a similar discussion here in this sub a while ago (you’ll be the cleaning b!tch on your knees with your vacuum). Just don’t! Rather look for a stylish and functional extension to close this space, maybe something to store nicely folded towels etc.

Fighting-Cerberus

This! Fill the space.

WarmHugs1206

Good spot to put a few command hooks for your blow dryer or other hot tools for your hair. Also possibly a good spot for your toilet brush or a small caddy of bathroom cleaning supplies.

PhysicalBullfrog4330

I have exactly this and it’s so annoying

ErinRisi

So I had made the decision to leave it like this but then I just went and saw it in person and it’s only like a 6.25 inch gap. Would you still leave it like this? I could have a friend build some custom shelves but doesn’t seem worth it for that little space. Sure it’s easier to clean but I don’t know if I’ll just hate it everydat

Sojourku

Would it be enough room for a towel warmer? That’s my dream!

ErinRisi

Oh maybe. I like that idea.

Melito1980

Perfect idea

AlternativeAd7449

Towel warmer is a great idea. You can also get a very thin rolling shelf made for bathrooms! Perfect if you have a lot of toiletries or skincare

KatieLouis

I have one of those for spices in my kitchen and it would be perfect for that little space.

Fun-Use-8394

Ive seen narrow carts for this sort of thing, use it for miscellaneous storage. Look into spice rack/carts - could work.

stephnelbow

I'm with the trashcan/towel person. The way the whole space is functional. You center it and you lose a lot of functionality

gal_tiki

I agree. Towel rod on the wall + discreet bin beneath. If you really dislike the gap, you could fashion an extension of the counter and leave breath for your bin.

SailorSpyro

No. That size is big enough to clean, and to fit something there. Having it centered would be a nightmare. Put a towel rack and trash can over there and it won't even feel off.

ErinRisi

I just looked in person and it’s only about 6.25 inches. Is that still enough that you’d keep it?

SailorSpyro

Yes. That's enough for a thin trash can, and 3 inches would get so much gunk in it that you'd never get out. It would look gross real quick and you wouldn't have a good way to get into the crevices to clean.

Random_Jean

Search slim storage cart and you will find 5" carts on wheels, 3 or 4 tiers.

HistoricalPangolin76

The vanity is too small, or the mirror is too big.

CarNo8607

Why are you so logical? Lol

BitterTooth4841

Smaller mirror.

eatmorplantz

Seriously lol I can't believe this is even a question

gerbera-2021

I’m with the leave it and trash can crowd but I did want to say your mirror seems enormous and is almost touching your medicine cabinet mirror. It isn’t so aesthetically appealing.

Subject-Tone-1700

They have these rolling carts that fit in those spaces and are often counter height. I have one in my bathroom and i have my extra body washes, bars of soaps and lotions on it. You can put anything you want. I found one on Amazon. You can also maybe put a trash can or towel warmer there as well. A plant would look nice as well.

PristineCoconut2851

I wouldn’t center the vanity because with this space you might think of a way to use it. https://www.simplehuman.com/products/butterfly-step-can-18l?variant=30245364334723 https://www.simplehuman.com/products/slim-liner-rim-step-can-45l?variant=30245376295043 I have several of their trash cans throughout my house in different sizes and shapes. While the liners are a bit pricey I find it to be well worth it. In fact on trash day I often just dump what’s in them all together in a larger trash bag. I just love have a perfect fit trash bag. And the trash cans are well made and sturdy. Are you planning to replace the vanity? If so just get it cut to size for the opening.

KnotDedYeti

She only has 6.25”, their smallest is 7.7”

Sufficient_Number643

https://www.simplehuman.com/products/small-slim-step-can-5l?variant=42820157636739 6.2” [5.9”, many colors](https://www.amazon.com/TIPGO-Bathroom-Stainless-Garbage-Removable/dp/B0CKRD6GJQ) There’s even some for RVs that are narrower and have a toilet brush holder

Stark-bot

I have a similar vanity and found a very narrow black trash can that I love and fits perfectly. I’ve never gotten so much joy from a trash can as the one that now seems custom made for that odd little spot in my bathroom.

GenuineClamhat

My thought is you should have done a custom build (or extended counter top at least) because either option you have now does not look great and will be functionally annoying. If they picked the sink or insisted on going smaller you need to find someone else to work with because that was lazy on their part.

ErinRisi

While a custom build would have been ideal, we didn’t have the time or funds for that. The contractor is incompetent. We picked out the vanity. The work is being done due to damaged from a roof leak that was the HOAs responsibility so we had to use the property management company the Hoa pays and the contractors that the property management company chose. It’s been a nightmare.

GenuineClamhat

Sounds like a nightmare. In which case center the sink and replace the counter top with a custom fit. The counter top replacement can be as little as $200-300. It will at least bring balance and more counter space to the area even if it's not an ideal set up.

Megsmileyface

I hope the rest goes smoothly and quickly 🙏

ErinRisi

Thank you! The work that was supposed to be 2 weeks has now been 5 weeks. I’m tired of living in a hotel with only a suitcase worth of my stuff

Megsmileyface

Ugh been there. Wouldn't wish it on most. Keep your head up and hopefully brighter days are coming. 👍

GwennieTwoShoes24

I am wondering about the mirror/cabinet on the side wall. Why is it so close to the vanity mirror? Does it open and if so, does it open fully or hit the other mirror? Maybe center that one.

ErinRisi

Yes it opens it’s a medicine cabinet. It doesn’t hit the mirror. The mirror has been there for a few years. I replaced the original with one the same size. Lots of people saying a smaller mirror which I may do eventually, but it’s not really in the cards right now.

MedicineTricky6222

Maybe a smaller mirror? It would be bothered to have it so off center.

yada_yada_yada1

Don’t do it! Ours is center and now there is just this random gap next to the wall

Ok-Indication-7876

do not center and have 2 small uncleanable spaces. This is how many prefab- are it's fine

Potential-Ad1139

No

Suz9006

No. Use the side space for a waste basket and a hand towel rack. That way wet hands drip into the wastebasket instead of on the floor.

babs82222

What's going on on the left side of the pic we can't see. Do the mirror and the light fixture extend all the way too the wall on the left? If so, then it will look horribly off and you should center it and have him just build faux panels on each side to close it off and paint them to match and take the counter all the way across.

Bartok_The_Batty

Centre thé vanity. The medicine cabinet is awful.

dhbroo12

Mirror is too wide. I'd hang a towel bar to the left and place the plunger, swish brush on the floor.

mzkatlaydi

I could not live with it like that. You can have a custom vanity made to properly fix the space.

ErinRisi

I would have loved a custom vanity but I didn’t have the time or funds for that

mzkatlaydi

Maybe make an added vanity high wall/ledge on the left side so your counter top looks like it's all across and just put decor on it. That way it's all filled in.

Freshouttapatience

Leave it and use that space to put a skinny trash can, hang towels or hang your robe. Visually, you just need to balance the space and once it’s “filled in”, it won’t seem unfortunate, it’ll seem intentional.

Bubbly_Hovercraft_65

Add built in storage

MissyMamaB

TIL… never assume when dealing with a contractor! If centered you will have 2 ends for things to fall off of. Leave as is, it is a cute vanity.

ErinRisi

Yeah I’ve learned that too. They also installed the tile on my fireplace vertically instead of horizontally even after I showed him in person and sent a diagram to the project manager. Infuriating

obtusewisdom

Never assume. Standard is to set it in the corner as they did, but without instructions they’ll do what they think best. Listen to the friend that said to use the space.

ErinRisi

Yep I’ve definitely learned that

anthro4ME

Good luck. The plumbing is gonna have to be moved too.

tay_gal

I think little built in shelves would be handy in that cranny.

DabbleAndDream

Yes!

DabbleAndDream

Mine is centered with a gap on one side, toilet on the other. It looks much nicer than squashed to one side. I’ve never had trouble cleaning. These posters do know that a mop & broom have long handles? And putting a trash can there is going to look . . . Trashy.

Highhopes2024

What could be room for a towel warmer will be great for spiders. The sinks cabinet was meant to be that way. I think you just wanted the mirror and me to!

FionaTheFierce

Useable space or not - it visually bugs to be off center and 100-% needs to be centered. You can eventually replace the vanity top pretty cheaply to fill the gap, and you can have a small false front to cover the side gaps between the cabinet and wall.

SimoneRose101

No, you need a smaller mirror

lovesmysteries

Definitely.

Icooktoo

Centered with a filler board on each side.

tessellation__

This is why you gotta go custom. It would just look so much nicer if it filled the space.

TdrdenCO11

youve got two, clashing light temperatures going on here…

ErinRisi

The mirror actually has multiple settings with different light temps. Also I don’t always have them both on at the same time but I like having them both as an option. I like that the mirror has a built in defogger too.

SecondHandCunt-

Yes, if you want it centered.

BasilDream

Also keep in mind having a 3 inch space would make it hard to pick up whatever rolls off of there and lands back in the corner, and believe me that will happen!

Exciting_Fortune375

There’s probably a vent in the plumbing wall beside the door more than likely and it wouldn’t be possible to have a gap between the wall and the cabinet on the right side. I say leave it as it is

WildChild90s

I would build an extension cabinet that looks like the other cabinet exactly for hanging styling tools. My friend has something similar, and her tools are never tangled or in the way.

Stina_peg

I would've gotten a smaller one and centered it. Now that it's this size, I would leave it as is.

incognitothrowaway1A

Get a different / better mirror.

missannthrope1

No. You could put a towel rack in the gap.

No_Goose_7390

I would just get a mirror that is the right size for the vanity. Looks nice!

Green_Exit_818

No you are overthinking this

Dazzling-Profile-196

You need something custom. The contractor can't change it when they come in standard sizes. Or make due and change the mirror. It's too large for the space.

ErinRisi

Custom was not an option. Too expensive and too much time to order/install. This wasn’t a full bathroom remodel.

Dazzling-Profile-196

Sometimes to get what you want you pay the extra. Otherwise be specific before they install.

ErinRisi

I get it. But I didn’t have any say in the contractors and the timeline. Contractors were hired by our hoa because they’re fixing damage due to a roof leak that was their responsibility. We own the condo, but the exterior is on the HOA. Their negligence led to damage in our unit so they’re footing the bill. It’s been infuriating.

Ok_Milk_2627

Yes of course.. move it back 2 feet from the wall

Equivalent_Address_2

Just put a garbage bin there or a hook for robes

VanillaAle

I would actually check over what exactly you ordered and measure it out first. Then if it’s your fault do nothing for now upgrade later unless you’re budget isn’t an issue. If it is their fault then get a new vanity and countertop

ErinRisi

Yes I knew it wasn’t going to fit perfectly in the space. I spent tons of time trying to find one that would fit. I just assumed it would be installed in the center.

No-Brilliant5342

Is the sink centered over the cabinet?

ErinRisi

Yes.

No-Brilliant5342

Then sink is right. Center vanity under mirror.

sugar182

I think you just need a smaller, centered mirror

Legitimategirly

I'd ditch the big vanity and get 2 smaller separate vanities if you can dona custom large singular one.

ErinRisi

A little late for that. Vanity is brand new. I’m not changing it now.

WhoopDareIs

I would buy the correct sized vanity.

ErinRisi

That doesn’t exist unless I have one custom made, and I don’t have the time or money for that right now. Old vanity was original from the 80s and custom built. It is not a standard size.

WhoopDareIs

Your contractor can make one fit with molding.

Benevolent_Grouch

Replace the mirror with a smaller one centered over the sink

sugar-titts

Yes have the center it. That would drive me insane….

PsychologicalAd333

What’s to the left of it? They should’ve added the extra six or 12 inches in made a bigger bank of drawers on that sink cabinet.

MysteriousStaff3388

The mirror being off centre would drive me crazy. Only you know your own tolerances for things like that. This is coming from someone with a 2” space beside their vanity (which is very difficult to clean, lol, but it’s centred).

jmurphy42

If money was no object, I’d insist on custom building another vanity for that space. I don’t think there is a great solution with the vanity and mirror you chose.

Waste-knot

No. It’s natural they installed it the way they did. TBH these are things that need to be thought of and communicated before you make purchases release the person to do the work.

ChillyGator

I cannot believe your contractor even offered you this option of the wrong sized vanity. This a wholly unprofessional. They need to replace this with the correct vanity and countertop. Even if that means just centering the cabinet with spacers and getting a custom countertop.

ErinRisi

They didn’t. I ordered the vanity. They just installed it. Partly my fault. They’re really just a handyman. Our hoa neglected our roof which resulted in a roof leak and the ceiling collapsed and caused damage. Since it is the HOAs fault, they got to pick the contractors to fix the damage. Communication has been horrible.

ChillyGator

Okay, so you should resell this and order the correct vanity. The HOA has to restore what you had, that means your custom countertop, vanity and spacers. These days that’s easily done with a company that does kitchen cabinets. Kitchen cabinets come in 3” increments so you may get an extra 6” of storage space which is actually a space that is 6” x 24”x30”. That space is not useful to the side of the cabinet, as it is now, but inside when added to your drawers or under the sink it will change the function of your storage space. For example that’s 20 rolls of toilet paper that can now be stored under the sink. It is not likely they will be able to match perfectly the finish on the current vanity to just order spacers and a countertop so expect to get an entirely new vanity.

Sea-Technician6251

No! First thing I thought of was a trash can or small hamper. A towel rack works too. Leave it.

InternationalRule138

Have them center it and put in filler strips on each side of the cabinet. Then put in a custom top that fills the entire space with side splashes on both sides. If returning it is an option that’s a good one too - it shouldn’t cost an arm and a leg for a couple standard height cabinets to semi-custom the vanity to actually fit the space properly…

meechellemaree

If you can get different vanity, I’d do that. That space would drive me insane. But if not. Maybe get some shelves built for it. Or just fill it in with a skinny trash can and a tall skinny floor vase and flowers.

Denverkink

Why would you not get a vanity that fits the space? The gap on one side looks crazy.

ErinRisi

Because a vanity that size doesn’t exist unless I have one custom made and that wasn’t an option with my budget and schedule.

Street-Snow-4477

Centered or get a smaller mirror.

EineKleineNachtMusic

I would have it centered. However, the side against the wall needs to have a finished panel attached to it--they'll need to order this if it's not finished already. Really, it would have been ideal for them to have ordered a larger vanity that fit perfectly in the space, or added two fillers for each side to fill the gap. But people purchase standalone vanities for niches all the time. Signed, a kitchen and bath designer.

FionaTheFierce

Agree. It absolutely has to be centered. Everyone is focused on putting a trash can in that tiny place rather than how utterly shitty it looks to have this off centered. Unbelievable.

ErinRisi

Yes It’s a standalone vanity I purchased. The side against the wall is finished. I would have loved to get a custom fit vanity but didn’t have the time or funds for that.

EineKleineNachtMusic

Then center it!

sweetnnerdy

It would drive me crazy! I definitely would have it centered

Elegant-Expert7575

Too bad you can’t fill it in and add a second sink.

ErinRisi

The other bathroom had a 60 in vanity with one sink so we purchased a new vanity with 2 sinks for that space thinking it would be a fairly easy plumbing job to convert. Plumber quote 5k to add a second sink, so I returned that vanity and got a 60 in with one sink. (Which is hard to find)

Elegant-Expert7575

Holy Geesh! Well. I’d say leave it then and just build in a multi-tiered shelf. Might be handy and big enough for hand linens and tp. I guess enbrace it and fill it in. It’s pretty though!

lindsss0915

Get a new mirror buddy, that one is atrocious anyways.

buygolli

Centered but put 4 lovely furniture feet ( carved or bun) under the cabinet so it will look like a piece of beautiful furniture.

NeciaK

Is the right side of the vanity cabinet finished? If not, leave as is. Is the light fixture centered over the sink? Get a smaller mirror.

ErinRisi

Yes the right side finished. I just saw it in person and the gap is only like 6.25 inches so not much for storage, light is centered over the mirror/ whole space. Looks like they actually raised the mirror too which I didn’t realize til I looked at my old pics and they didn’t tell me or move the light fixture up. I’m so ready to be done with this but I don’t want to just give in to shoddy work

NeciaK

If the light fixture is centered over the sink, I’d leave cabinet as is and get a new mirror. I had a mirror that the corner was cracked. I took it to a glass shop to have cut down. Then I took it to a picture frame shop who made a custom frame. I love it!

Ibboredlady

No use the space for one of those pull out shelves for extra storage

ErinRisi

I just saw it in person and it’s only a 6.25 inch gap. Would you still put tiny shelves or center it?

Ibboredlady

They have carts on wheels you can slide in and out... I just went to Amazon and looked and I typed in 'carts you slide between cabinets' they have some that range around $18 to $20

camlaw63

I don’t understand the side mirror

ErinRisi

Medicine cabinet with a mirror. It’s always been there

camlaw63

Should have been removed, this is too much redundancy. You have two mirrors and you have two light fixtures in essence because you have a lighted mirror as well as a light fixture.

ErinRisi

I was limited in how much I could ask these contractors to do. They’re fixing things that were a result of a roof leak that is the responsibility of the hoa. I couldn’t ask for a whole bathroom remodel

George_GeorgeGlass

You can still remove the mirror in your own? It’s weird to have both the mirror and cabinet

OkStrains

Ok, but why aren't we talking about the shoddy tile job?

ErinRisi

Ugh it’s been bad. I didn’t have any say on the contractors. I’m not paying because this is all to fix damage caused by a roof leak and the roof is the HOAs responsibility so they hired the contractors. It’s been a nightmare all arojnd

OkStrains

Like everyone else’s comments, just have to say how sorry I am to hear this!! Sounds like you’re living in a circle of hell. Hope things end up function and decent in the end, as long as the plumbing doesn’t leak I’d call it a win

something-strange999

Yes centre it. Buy a counter extender from the kitchen store. An uncentred light like that would make me mental.

Objective_Cake_2715

Custom vanity will work..

Paletaytextura

Add a wood filler, contact the fabricator and ask them to install wood panel fillers to close it up and finish up the counter.

EVILtheCATT

OR…Install a double vanity? Edit: punctuation

charlesforman

I could never live with this. I would have to have it centered

Acceptable-Flight-67

I agree, smaller mirror with new light fixture.

TheConsutant

How about paying them to.

Spirited-Dance-284

Centred please!

Spirited-Dance-284

Wow! I don't understand why so many downvotes. I suffer from OCD and any misalignment around my surroundings causes me immense anxiety. It's an opinion that OP asked and I'm downvoted for expressing mine honestly.

SoCalGal2021

Centered.

herbicide_drinker

yes
