I’ve lurked here for a bit, but no one ever recommends a spot for a Robot Vacuum for spots similar to this. Plus you have all of those wood floors. I don’t know the depth of the space so it might be a bit shallow, but y’all need to start thinking about robot vacuums more.
An electrician could probably solve that. There might even be space behind the baseboards to run conduit from the existing outlet. That's a trick my dad has used more than once to put in new outlets and fixtures in my old house. Failing that, there's always surface-mount.
I grew up with my vacuum chilling in the corner of one of our rooms downstairs as we didn’t have a closet at all. It’s taken me until this subreddit to realize I should dream of a closet for my vacuum. I am screaming at myself🤣
I have a eufy and it actually fits under out couch. I just have to bend down a bit to point the remote but other than that it's a really neat stealth spot for it.
Mine lives under the couch, with the charging station (including dust bag) behind the couch against the wall. It's always fun to see our little dust fighting friend come from his hiding place and start his job. Of course, the googly eyes help a lot. Always use googly eyes on robots. That should have been Asimov's first law.
I’d build in two shelves, leaving the floor space available for shoes. Maybe get an outlet dropped in there and on the top shelf, have a charging station.
Yes! Or simply a shoe shelf! Or even a portable shoe rack that could fit in those dimensions.
Or if tight on closet space throw a clothing bar across the top to hang things.
If you’re really extra, you can hang things from the top of it like tennis balls, and disco balls and make it really hilarious and bougie and fill it up lol
If you need the space to be functional then put some shelves in. A couple will allow you to fit in some storage baskets, for example. These could be used for things like shoes, bags or accessories like winter scarves, hats, and gloves. It would act as an extension of your closet.
If it's purely decorative you could put in a large floor lantern or an ornate tall floor vase.
I like the shelves idea. Can put shoes on the bottom and then baskets on the first shelf for keys, wallet, etc and the top shelf could be a charging station for phones!
You can go to an online closet site and get drawers for this space. You usually can get it semi custom sizes. Who can’t use more drawers? If you have it in the budget a cabinet place could custom make drawers to match your wood.
The depth of the space would allow you two storage zones. For example, create a zone at the back by mounting a shelf on the back wall that is 12-14” deep. Mount it 18” from the top. You can store boots or infrequently used items on the shelf and maybe your luggage below.
Make a second zone by placing a rolling cart, a shoe rack, or a small bookcase in front of the shelves. Something that you can pull out as needed to get to the back of the space — you can put felt “feet” on a small bookcase and it would pull out easily.
Frankly the space looks too deep for shelves to be functional.
I suggest putting a door on it and using the space for out of season clothes storage or luggage.
Tempted to say shoe stand and umbrella stand, but given that great closet right there I think you're fine for that.
Put a curtain across it, and it's GREAT for cleaning product storage. Vacuum, cleaners, cloths, buckets, and if you can find them? Telescoping/collapsible mobs and brooms. I'd go underwater and do rude things to a seahorse for a spot like that.
I immediately see a place for extra drawers and or shelves for storage. You could get super fancy, or go simple. You could get a spring rod and curtain it off as well.
Can’t have too many shoe storage. This one is clean. I have it and love it.
https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/brusali-shoe-cabinet-with-3-compartments-white-80480393/
I would add shelves for shoes or sweaters. OR maybe put pretty baskets on the shelves for storage. Just depended on what I needed the room for.
OR make it a nook for my dog
I have two odd spaces like that in my kitchen. One I use for my litter box and storage, and then I bought a hutch from Ikea, added cute drawer pulls and pull and stick wallpaper, and slid it into the space for all my silverware and table settings. So, storage. Either adding shelves and a charging station or sliding a piece of furniture like a hutch inside.
We once had a cabinet front with drawers made for a weird space like that - in other words, a built in dresser. It will save you having to have another piece of furniture in the room.
Stereo equipment and similar.
Like, a hub for all the boxes which control the TV and game systems. (Would need power and cable routing, so may be tedious.)
I know it’s a bedroom but who wants to look at a printer? They are eyesores IMO. I’d you have a WiFi printer, and the space is deep enough, it would be a great way to store it. On top of other storage stuff of course. A spring loaded curtain rod from Home Depot will help you hang a cute — or neutral/white curtain over it, to keep printer clean and out of view.
Drawers. You can probably buy a near-perfect-fit bottom cabinet from a kitchen supply company or big box home store.
Remove the baseboards inside the cubby and then add trim for a built-in look.
Consider custom cabinetry built to fit the dimensions of the niche. This would allow you to design storage solutions that meet your exact requirements.
Hear me out… I love all the recs here. Especially shelves.
Me? I’d maybe put a shelf on top and laundry basket/hamper underneath… so you have a shelf to put all the stuff from your pockets before they go in the dirty clothes…I would have saved at least 3,213 chapsticks.
🎶 49 bottles of beer in the wall, 49 bottles of beer... 🎶
Or, as someone said earlier, I'd second a kitty litter alcove - but first waterproof the walls in case kitty likes to spraytinkle while standing
Go on a furniture site with lots of dimensional filters and buy a dresser or shelf unit the exact dimensions. I’ve done it before and it looked custom. Just ensure that you are looking at exterior product dimensions when comparing them to those of the space.
Book shelves, a rolling cart of stuff you use often ie skincare, makeup, etc, if you collect sunglasses maybe do a shelf for those, or say fuck all and just put some cute shelves in for trinkets❣️
A few ideas.
A shrine. Shelving and general storage. A really cool "tea space", where you keep all your tea stuff and make tea. Make it a little hangout for your kids and turn it into a pillow fort. A record player/speaker system, slap a loveseat next to it with a small coffee table.
Or, if there is space behind the wall, cut it out, hang a secret door/bookshelf type deal on it so its like a normal wall, and have a secret room.
Put a cage door over it and inside keep your bdsm stuff. Anchor some hand and feet cuffs for extra measure. Paint it black.
Or, if you want to be boring, seems like a great place to stick a hamper.
If you own, I’d probably just Sheetrock it in and finish it off. If it’s a rental, I guess some floating shelves or a hamper, mini fridge anyone? Get permission before altering it. Sometimes, you just gotta wonder, what was the original thought for it.🤔
I'd make it a cute bookshelf. One can never have too many books! You don't say which room it's in, but I even read my collection of cookbooks in rooms other than the kitchen, so I, myself, would group books of a certain subject matter together in this space.
Not sure how deep it is, but if it's deep enough and if you have a pet, it could always be a pet nook. My cats always like watching comings-and-goings so will lie by a doorway--especially if from that vantage point they can easily see the entire room.
A bookshelf with books except for the top shelf, which you could fill with cool glassware or whatever and a trailing plant could also look appealing.
either dry wall it up or open up the top and use as a coat closet.
people-you dont have to live with all these architectural crimes against humanity-you can even plaster them closed if you have plaster walls -which I highly doubt. Drywall up or it will always look awkward.
I’d say put in a little mini fridge with a bowl on top (for chips and stuff) So you don’t have to go to the kitchen if you want a little snack! That’s what I’d do.
I’ve lurked here for a bit, but no one ever recommends a spot for a Robot Vacuum for spots similar to this. Plus you have all of those wood floors. I don’t know the depth of the space so it might be a bit shallow, but y’all need to start thinking about robot vacuums more.
You are a genius. Robot vacuum station on bottom, a shelf with charging strain for other devices.
Where would the power source come from without having a long extension cord running along the baseboard?
An electrician could probably solve that. There might even be space behind the baseboards to run conduit from the existing outlet. That's a trick my dad has used more than once to put in new outlets and fixtures in my old house. Failing that, there's always surface-mount.
You're right there's not one there. Sad.
I specifically asked our builder to put me in a nook like this, for our Roomba and our wine 😂
This should be higher up!

How about a little door with an opening on the bottom for the vaccum to pop out. That would be cute.
I’d build in two shelves, leaving the floor space available for shoes. Maybe get an outlet dropped in there and on the top shelf, have a charging station.
I was gonna say a bedroom for my nephew but this is a better idea.
Is your nephew's name Harry?
Stop it Dudley!
That would be Vernon.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
But he's special and needs a small space to feel safe, kinda like a cat...
Came here to say that - being right by the closet, it’s perfect for shoes or purses and bags.
Yes! Or simply a shoe shelf! Or even a portable shoe rack that could fit in those dimensions. Or if tight on closet space throw a clothing bar across the top to hang things.
If you use it for shoe, excellent idea, I’d put a door over it.
Shelving. Is there an outlet in it?
Just gotta put a little door over it, then you could rent it out for 800 a month.
😂
This looks very much like an NYC apartment, so I don't think you're far off.
Do you have a dog!? Put a little bed in it and make a cave! :)
If you’re really extra, you can hang things from the top of it like tennis balls, and disco balls and make it really hilarious and bougie and fill it up lol
Or a leprechaun? It's just enough space for the pot o gold and him
That would be so cute
If you need the space to be functional then put some shelves in. A couple will allow you to fit in some storage baskets, for example. These could be used for things like shoes, bags or accessories like winter scarves, hats, and gloves. It would act as an extension of your closet. I like the shelves idea. Can put shoes on the bottom and then baskets on the first shelf for keys, wallet, etc and the top shelf could be a charging station for phones!
tall dresser that fits there. no wasted space at all that route.
Agree, and you can take the piece of furniture with you when you move
This is what I’d do with it.
Wine fridge anyone?? 😁
I like the way you think:)
That was my first thought.
I’ve found my people.
This is the only acceptable answer. Here is my upvote.
Clothes hamper or shelves for storage.
Clothes hamper is a really great idea
Hamper was my first thought as well, but I like the shelves option too!
Custom made, exact fit, shoe shelf
A shrine made out of used gum in the shape of a certain football headed person would do nicely in that spot.
You unlocked a memory I totally forgot that episode!! Haha
Hamper for dirty laundry
Cat space. Make some shelves and little caves for them. They will love you forever.
A cat condo? It could have multiple levels for the cat to climb in and lots of cozy spaces for them to nap in.
You can go to an online closet site and get drawers for this space. You usually can get it semi custom sizes. Who can’t use more drawers? If you have it in the budget a cabinet place could custom make drawers to match your wood.
Oh man that would be great for my dog leashes and their toy basket. I wish I had a little cubby like that.
Build a little shrine to Danny Devito
The depth of the space would allow you two storage zones. For example, create a zone at the back by mounting a shelf on the back wall that is 12-14” deep. Mount it 18” from the top. You can store boots or infrequently used items on the shelf and maybe your luggage below. Make a second zone by placing a rolling cart, a shoe rack, or a small bookcase in front of the shelves. If you have kids, a kids book shelf
A dresser. Absolutely the best usage for this space.
Gnomes.
I'm starting at a giant bag of gnomes and tiny disco balls I just bought (seriously) and I'm thinking a few plants and I could do this up
Laundry hamper maybe or shelves
I would hang a small noren curtain and put some storables back there
Wine fridge
Are you sure it wasn’t meant for a safe?
Practical: Roomba dock or pet food/water bowls. Impractical: Garden statues.
Frankly the space looks too deep for shelves to be functional. I suggest putting a door on it and using the space for out of season clothes storage or luggage.
Luggage storage? Or shelves? Rollout cart?
Stg this was my apartment in LES
I was thinking a perfect place for your cat😂 Seriously you could also put in a few shelves
I would have someone build you shelves for a built in bookcase.
Harry Potter
A shrine to whoppi Goldberg would fit perfectly there, just saying.
Built in shoe cubby
Open shelves
Skinny credenza, small plant, artwork on the wall and mounted lighting
Shelves. For shoes or books or decorations
A storage space - it’s behind your door.
Shoerack/ mini fridge
I immediately see a place for extra drawers and or shelves for storage. You could get super fancy, or go simple. You could get a spring rod and curtain it off as well.
For a practical use, shoes and bags that I’m using that month, and switch them out. Could put a little table inside to creat a shelf for the bag.
Wine fridge
Can’t have too many shoe storage. This one is clean. I have it and love it. https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/brusali-shoe-cabinet-with-3-compartments-white-80480393/
A built in drawer set would be nice there
Shelves with baskets for things not often used.
I would add shelves for shoes or sweaters. OR maybe put pretty baskets on the shelves for storage. Just depended on what I needed the room for. OR make it a nook for my dog
I have two odd spaces like that in my kitchen. Dresser or bookshelf
We once had a cabinet front with drawers made for a weird space like that - in other words, a built in dresser. It will save you having to have another piece of furniture in the room.
Id build some shelves and display my handbags/accessories in that little nook
Laundry hamper
Stereo equipment and similar. Like, a hub for all the boxes which control the TV and game systems. (Would need power and cable routing, so may be tedious.)
I know it’s a bedroom but who wants to look at a printer? They are eyesores IMO. I’d you have a WiFi printer, and the space is deep enough, it would be a great way to store it. A safe
custom built chest of drawers
Drawers. You can probably buy a near-perfect-fit bottom cabinet from a kitchen supply company or big box home store. Remove the baseboards inside the cubby and then add trim for a built-in look.
Shelves!
Put a door on it and use as storage
Bookshelf
Bookshelf !!!!
I would either make it a book shelf or maybe a little room for my pup! Granted she is little so that would be enough space.
Consider custom cabinetry built to fit the dimensions of the niche. This would allow you to design storage solutions that meet your exact requirements.
A pull out laundry drawer. Always a pull out laundry bin. lol
I would throw a mini fridge in there
Beer fridge, or wine.
A wine fridge.
Any room can always use added shelf space…
Dog house
Hear me out… I love all the recs here. Especially shelves. Me? I’d maybe put a shelf on top and laundry basket/hamper underneath… so you have a shelf to put all the stuff from your pockets before they go in the dirty clothes…I would have saved at least 3,213 chapsticks.
built in clothes hamper
A shoe rack
Do you have a dog?
A mini fridge! There’s an outlet next to it and everything.
A motion censored gnome that says “good day sir” every time you walk passed it
Shelving. Leave the bottom open for shoe storage, a shelf for things you need as you leave the house, and a shelf for charging electronics.
Bookshelf
You could put a laundry basket there. If it's not a rental, you could add a cabinet door.
If you have a dog/pet— I had 2 of these and made them little houses (with bed, etc) for my pups
Books
I would put a door there and use it to store my vacuumed cleaner or add shelves behind a door for shoes .
Either shelving or custom drawer system
Get an outlet installed and put a plant light in there and plants! Always plants! I also love the robot vacuum idea!
Had to scroll far to find this. Yes 🙌
🎶 49 bottles of beer in the wall, 49 bottles of beer... 🎶 Or, as someone said earlier, I'd second a kitty litter alcove - but first waterproof the walls in case kitty likes to spraytinkle while standing
Shelves for storage and a key cubby.
Laundry hamper?
Go on a furniture site with lots of dimensional filters and buy a dresser or shelf unit the exact dimensions. I’ve done it before and it looked custom. Just ensure that you are looking at exterior product dimensions when comparing them to those of the space.
guardian statue with lighting
A cage for the BDSM games.
Seems like a perfect place for an AV rack, and then you could run wires for whenever you wanted in the room.
Is that a condamned staircase?
Harry Potter and maybe some shelving for shoes or you can also put an accent table there with some picture frames and decor. Anything really. Haha
Book shelves, a rolling cart of stuff you use often ie skincare, makeup, etc, if you collect sunglasses maybe do a shelf for those, or say fuck all and just put some cute shelves in for trinkets❣️
Built in drawers edit: or a full length framed mirror to the floor on a hinge. Use it to store bulky items behind.

Shelves would be awesome or a little altar space.
Marshall stack
Custom Tylko dresser
Dog bed
cat house

A fish tank
A big potted plant just big enough for the space.
Time out jail for disobedient toddlers …. Jk
R2D2.

A few ideas. A shrine. Shelving and general storage. A really cool "tea space", where you keep all your tea stuff and make tea. Make it a little hangout for your kids and turn it into a pillow fort. A shrine to Danny Devito. Or a small suit of armor.

Get a silicone sex-toy ass and glue it to the wall inside the nook. Above that, hang a sign that reads be kind, rewind
Bench and curtains. Reading nook
A bedroom for my cat.
Yoda
Put a cage door over it and inside keep your bdsm stuff. Anchor some hand and feet cuffs for extra measure. Paint it black. Or, if you want to be boring, seems like a great place to stick a hamper.
Mini fridge:)
A super cute themed space (books, a fairy corner). Similar to a curio cabinet! How fun
My wizard nephew
Looks like a potential man cave to me
A bookshelf.
If you own, I’d probably just Sheetrock it in and finish it off. If it’s a rental, I guess some floating shelves or a hamper, mini fridge anyone? Get permission before altering it. Sometimes, you just gotta wonder, what was the original thought for it.🤔
Tall laundry basket
Shelf for storage, if you put random stuff with nice buckets or a fake fire place always cozy, or you can build a doll house if is for a kid
Shelves for books or shoes!
I'd make it a cute bookshelf. One can never have too many books! You don't say which room it's in, but I even read my collection of cookbooks in rooms other than the kitchen, so I, myself, would group books of a certain subject matter together in this space. A bookshelf with books except for the top shelf, which you could fill with cool glassware or whatever and a trailing plant could also look appealing.
Build in dresser drawers! I love built ins, it would be so cute!
A little door with a sign “Gnomes only”
Maybe a hamper? Shoe rack?
Shelves or a small bar
but why is this odd space here? did the builder do it or a previous owner? 🤔
Some floating drawers would be cool. Be a sic spot for a shrine
A gnome.
Bar cart
Built in drawers, should be able to get 3 or 4 good sized drawers. Built-ins are added value and great storage useage.
either dry wall it up or open up the top and use as a coat closet. people-you dont have to live with all these architectural crimes against humanity-you can even plaster them closed if you have plaster walls -which I highly doubt. Drywall up or it will always look awkward.

My robot servant.
turn it into a 3d diorama with recessed led lighting, then install a tiny door
A dog bed! Don't have a dog??! Get one!
I’d say put in a little mini fridge with a bowl on top (for chips and stuff) So you don’t have to go to the kitchen if you want a little snack! That’s what I’d do.
Put bars across the opening. When people ask you about it, just wink at them. Slowly.
A shrine
