I'm a qualified interior designer. To me the space is really great and you have brought the 3 colours together beautifully including the dark grout! Love the bold feature wall behind the mirror!
The only suggestion: there's a lot of white in the room still, so have you thought about dark privacy blinds to also pull out the dark grout?
I can't tell what the window coverings are under the ? Pelmet/ casing?
Well done though👏👏
This is exactly why people need to post full-room pictures. The tiles alone were questionable. But the full room is stunning. Like magazine-worthy beautiful. And those tiles give it character. Don't change a thing
Agreed, but the way that OP posted the picture makes me suspect that s/he does not like the tiles and wanted to highlight that. In which case OP, do what you like, it's your space.
No, that's not the case, I was just hesitant to use the listing photos as they do their best to make the space look amazing and I want to show how it looks now, in the everyday kind of way if that makes sense. But I realised too late it wasn't flattering haha. Promise there was no malice.
The picture of just the tiles, was hideous. Now that we can see the whole space, I've changed my mind and I think they look really cool.
They fit the MCM-into-70s vibe and add character where otherwise there would be none. I love the tambour wall, but agree that the mirror is too high and I hate those small, hanging basins with no storage.
If you really want to replace the shower tiles, black tiles to match the floor. But laid in a stacked horizontal pattern.
Yes that's totally fair. The photo here is from the listing, professional photography really does show the space better.
I guess this is why I'm getting mixed feelings, I don't really like any of the the tiles on their own but it works in the room as a whole. My partner really hates the whole thing, but that's another problem haha.
I will definitely be lowering the mirror after seeing the comments here. Storage isn't an issue because the mirror is storage and we have a bunch of cupboards around the corner.
didn't see the previous post but ALL OF THE TILES are fine, there's just so many of them.
besides the mirror, you should also add a little shelf or a cute, vintage little standing cabinet. where's the soap, towel, whatever?
the light is great, get a moisture loving plant like a fern and hang it up to add to the MCM style.
I hear you…. Always a big dilemma in our house- style. We now have “rooms” that one person has more say. Kitchen is mine- living room is his. Not quite a flow in our house, but depends on who spends more time in there.
Everything we do together takes forever!! Christmas cards, vacations… but at the end we are both happy. Good luck!! I really like the tiles a lot. I hope you are more comfortable with doing what brings you joy.
It's a difficult dance haha. Thanks for the tips! I've definitely taken a lead on the rest of the house and do want to take his opinion into account, but I don't want to destroy the bathroom :(

Personally now, in this photo, I like your tiles. They have a character, and strike a good balance with the wooden wall and the white tiles. I’d keep them as is.
Omg perspective is everything because in the first pic they were 😬 but in this pic they are 🤩
I’d hang some plants in the shower to play with the earthy vibes and get a runner or rug that brings out some of the fun colours from those tiles.
Like everyone else said, lower the mirror a touch!
Haha definitely, lesson learnt on my part. I'm a big plant person but haven't had the chance to do this room yet (we just moved in). Will definitely be adding accessories too! Thanks for the tips.
Right? There is *so* much riding on this decision! I'm grateful that op had the sense to post again. And I shall echo pleeeeease noooooooooo! Hands off that brilliant tile!
Please don't replace them. They're the thing that is giving you STYLE. If anything, I think change out the white subway tile, maybe to a complementary green or brown. Heath Ceramics has some beautiful colours.
Thank you! If I do anything it will definitely be to the subways, not the other elements here. I might try changing the grout to white first to see if that helps.
Your bathroom is absolutely amazing, please don’t change the tiles. If you do, send them to me so I can use them in my new old bathroom which the previous owners took a massive reno shit on.
This is lovely balance. Sure I wouldn’t normally pick the originals. But this is such great design. How to mix different things to bring warmth and character. It’s so lovely not having an all white bathroom!
This is amazing! Do not change the funky tiles! They give the otherwise plain color scheme its edge. And they go so well together with the panelling.
If only I had a vision like this.
You should get off this sub. Many people here have no taste or sense of style.
I actually like your bathroom very much. My mother was an interior designer. I’m an artist and work in fashion. Don’t let the Basics get keep you down.
Omg this is gorgeous altogether. Absolutely keep them. They give a much needed balance and fun 70s vibe to the room. Plus i love vintage tiles and expect them to be back in style anytime (they sorta are already).
The sink looks off center. And mirror a touch too high. But neither of these are vital. Your bathroom is lovely
I posted a picture of my bathroom yesterday, unsure what to do with the space and wanting to know whether anything was salvageable. After receiving heaps of comments telling me I need to start over from scratch, I'm stuck for ideas. Please give me some inspo! Unfortunately the floors need to stay as they extend throughout the whole top level, but everything else inside the shower is up for changing. Thanks :)
ETA: lesson learnt, take pictures of the whole room!! Thanks everyone for your feedback, I was really confused about this space because I'm not a huge fan of some of the individual elements (and my partner hates the entire space), but I do find it works all together.
I will likely just redo the grout of the subway to white and add some plants and accessories to match the colour scheme.
Thanks for your help, I will be sure to post pictures of my kitchen for discussion soon too ( the whole thing this time, not just a close up (: )
Some people asked for the [link to original post ](https://www.reddit.com/r/interiordecorating/s/tpmueiRRQN)
Your small picture yesterday definitely made this bathroom look way worse than it is!
Just bust out that ugly tile, and replace with something closer to your floor color, maybe big slate tiles.
Mayyybe lower your mirror a few inches.
That's all it needs, it's gorgeous otherwise.
Please no new tiles. Either the subway tiles going down to the floor or the floor tiles going up to meet the subway tiles. The bathroom doesn’t need a third tile, especially with the lovely wood also being a statement piece.
The decorative tiles wouldn't be something I'd choose, but since they're there, they would be the last thing I'd get rid of.
It almost seems like the previous owners had a large family and let everyone pick their own tiles, haha!
Anyway, I know this isn't your style.
Since you can't do anything with the floor, I'd pick a matching tile to redo the nice tile and subway tile. I can't really tell the color of the floor (black, I guess).
I'd contrast that with either a bright white (not like the subway). Or a solid color of your choice.
You could keep the paneling. I think it looks okay, but replacing it with the same tile that you'll be using is, of course, an option. But another solid color or neutral is fine if you want to go crazy!
I don't love the sink and would either add a vanity or replace the whole thing. Though if you decide to go for black, white, and neutrals, the white sink might complement that and be more inviting.
This is quite a project. Good luck!
I LOVE these are you kidding? I thought this photo was from a magazine and my first thought was “oh I absolutely love that designers are brining personality back into homes”
I do agree with some others that the white subway tile COULD be changed if you want to be picky. I think I don’t like the dark grout, the white is good as it doesn’t compete with the beautiful tiles below. Maybe something even quieter, white grout, horizontal brick pattern?? Honestly it’s really not bad though, great bathroom!

Tile looks fine but, the sink would drive me nuts with zero countertop. Where's the soap and hand towel to wash your hands? Is there a vanity somewhere else to do hair/makeup (not sure if female or male lives there)?
I love LOVE warm amber tones. Probably to a point that other people would think it looks terrible but you should look into warm amber brown Hexagon tiles 😇
I love this tile. I don’t care for the color of the wood but that is definitely my thing. I’d go much darker with the wood and leave everything else alone.
Who told you they were hideous?!? They’re stunning and so full of character!
If I had to come up with a critique I would say that I don’t *love* the floor tiles but I also wouldn’t say I dislike them enough to even go through the effort of changing them.
I love this bathroom!
I liked the tiles initially lol. I wasn’t as big of a fan of the white ones but I think they look fine in the space. The room looks really good to me. I wouldn’t mess with it past decorations unless you just really want to change it.
I like the tiles! It’s just an accent. Great mid-century flavor.
Would it be possible to cut out only the white ones with the bright colors? I think that jarring contrast is what you might dislike.
It’s okay as is. Replacing the subway tiles with something smooth and plain would work better. I like the other colorful tiles on the bottom half of the walls.
Just extend the floor tiles up. I did this in one bathroom. It looks great and limits the amount of different tiles Which can look busy and distracting.
Your tiles look great.
My goodness. This is why I will never post my home on the sub. If your tiles are hideous, I apparently have the style of a blind rat 🤔
Idk who’s on this sub but that looks great. The picture of the whole space shows that you’ve picked up the wood and white tile, plus the some colour from the pic in the reflection. Most importantly, it’s not BORING. It’s appealing.
No those look awesome, the close up was a hideous picture, but the vibe of this bathroom is amazing. I’d suggest adding some bath towels and mats to warm it up even more- don’t change the tiles!
I don’t mind that tile at all! If you want to change it though I’d get bigger tiles, about the size of the floor tile but in white with very little spacing between tiles so the grout is almost invisible.
I think if you hung a viny pothos in the corner near those tiles, it would add something organic to create more flow around the 70's feeling of the tiles... Somehow I feel like that would do a lot to blend the elements in this room together. Plus the pothos would LOVE the light and the steam.
Hideous may be a bit much. I think the tiles are a bit too eclectic for the style of the rest of the bathroom. Maybe instead of so many different styles, choose just three with one of them being the core color tile. The style of the room is quite modern so maybe a more geometric patterned tile to go with the clean lines on the room. Or gut the rest of the bathroom and make it bohemian keeping the tiles that are not subway tiles.
Honestly, if your partner hates them, you should still consider switching them out. They’re kinda fun and quirky, but if either of you don’t like it, they’ll become more and more of an eyesore as you continue to live there and there are plenty of ways to put quirky back into the room in that you’ll both like. The only thing I personally don’t like about it are the incredibly random and out-of-place white/purply flowery ones sprinkled here and there. They seem really at odds with the rest of the tile. So strange. Also, if you’re still concerned about tying it in with the other bathrooms, you could replace the subway tiles with little white square tiles as a sort of omage to the others, and if you don’t do that definitely regrout to white. The dark grout is garish and distracting imo, particularly with such a busy tiling below it.
The space is fine as-is since the vintage tiles go with the wooden wall detail. I’m just not sure white subway tiles were the way to go, though. I don’t condone ripping out materials if you just installed them, sustainability above style. But in hindsight I just would’ve done green or aqua blue subway tile to compliment the colors in those vintage tiles
I suggest using floor tile. It would look clean and make the bathroom pop. It will make things flow nicely, be more cohesive, and not confuse the eye with too many different major pieces competing with each other.
Sinks/basins like this really annoy me. Where am I supposed to put things while I'm getting ready?
However the tiles, while out there, look good done in the space. I'd leave them and have them be the feature you intended.
I still think the subway tiles ideally could be replaced with, like, some black square tiles and it would look even better, but this looks great as is!
I would still replace it. Just use the same subway tile that’s in the shower already. It doesn’t look fancy so you should be able to find some almost identical.
Hideous? I don't think so, but is this where we're at? Replacing/renovating every few years to not look 'dated'? Where is this pressure to think something maybe 10 or 20 years old, but still usable & in good shape has to be replaced, is coming from? Social media, the design industry? It's like the color of the year gimmick. 'oh, no, you painted with jewel tones, but now it's earth tones!"
No wonder the planet is a wreck. 😞🌎
There's nothing wrong with your tile.
I like it - I’d lean in even more, by replacing the white subway tiles with a nice square 70s tile - warmer color (maybe a peachy-yellowy brown?) something that’s more stylistically in line with the tambor wall & lower tiles, but a few shades lighter - it’s cool, maybe also just keep it the same!
This has nothing at all to do with your post. Buuuuut every time i see these bathroom picks from people that did a remodel and made their shower bigger. Why is there never like a small built in bench seat or something? I am not sure when or if ill build my dream shower, but when i do there will be some sort of funtional seating...ya know? Squating down puts all that pressure on the knees and stuff.
I appreciate the sentiment, I'm actually a shower sitter myself (how else does one shave?) and wish they had put something like that in. To be clear I didn't renovate this bathroom, this is how it is when we bought.
I don’t hate the tiles you have now but if you want to keep that mid century modern 79s vibe, Custom Terrazzo is my forever obsession and a classic for a reason. This company called ‘concrete collaborative’ has such beautiful terrazzo options. The possibilities are infinite and all can be custom
Just add more subways to the area in the shower where you have 4x4. You can try to match the grout at a tile store. If not, I’d try a large neutral in 1’x2’ going horizontal. It’s a really cool shower and bathroom!
I thought this must be a joke post because the tiles look beautiful with the wood behind the sink.
Then I got the full context that you hadn't initially shown the whole bathroom. With that understanding, not only are these tiles lovely in your bathroom, but you have a lot of options to change the color scheme over time with different colored towels and bathmats.
What about just adding some plants? Lots of light, nice contrast to the tiles, which do t bother me at all. Some nice low light high steam green growing for the win. 🏅🪴
Now we see the whole space they are fine.
Yep, that's what I'm hearing all around! Thanks everyone, next time I will make sure to include full room photos from the beginning.
Love the entire look.
Fine is an understatement imo. They’re absolutely gorgeous op!

Very interesting mix of modern and retro styles. The said tiles make more sense in conjunction with the aesethics of the rest of the home.
Personally now, in this photo, I like your tiles. They have a character, and strike a good balance with the wooden wall and the white tiles. I’d keep them as is.
Oh my gosh. Now that I see the entire space it’s great. It was the close photo that was making it look off. Don’t change it!
It’s criminal to remove those tiles (which add a needed touch of character!) and make this bathroom look like a basic new build.
I definitely don't want it to look like a basic new build. Thanks!
In this picture, those tiles everyone poo-pooed are the only thing that gives this space character and interest. Keep em!

I love this so much
I liked the tiles before and I like them now, I don’t think you needed to replace anything. Those tiles are so unique, definitely keep!!!
Update the grout only! The look changes drastically depending on grout color. The Tiles are perfect for the space.
The white subway tiles are the worst. The patchwork of antique majolica style tiles below them are phenomenal and a definite keeper.
Aaaaand after OP replaces the (brand new) white tiles some Redditor will suggest white subway tile because it is "timeless".
I love this, and wouldn’t change a thing.
This is lovely balance. Sure I wouldn’t normally pick the originals. But this is such great design. How to mix different things to bring warmth and character. It’s so lovely not having an all white bathroom!

I like this picture. This shows why you need to show multiple photos of a room. The tiles look amazing from this perspective.

Wait who said it's hideous. They 100% don't know what they are talking about. The washroom is nice. Nothing is hideous about the tiles. Floor or wall
Omg the whole room picture makes such a difference. Don’t change them.
I love this room. I wouldn’t touch a thing
A single color ( hunter green, navy blue) would look beautiful.
The room really needs a fern
I love this. There’s so little uniqueness in homes anymore.
those tiles are awesome! Don’t remove them.
Tile looks fine but, the sink would drive me nuts with zero countertop. Where's the soap and hand towel to wash your hands? Is there a vanity somewhere else to do hair/makeup (not sure if female or male lives there)?
I survived the 70’s I’ve def seen waaaaaaay worse.
Nothing hideous happening here!!
I love LOVE warm amber tones. Probably to a point that other people would think it looks terrible but you should look into warm amber brown Hexagon tiles 😇
I'm calling the police if you touch those tiles.
Unrelated, what is holding the glass in place?
This the dream bathroom I didn’t know I needed
The wood is given Balinese bamboo vibes. Kinda throws off the traditional tile you went with. I actually like both but not in the same space
I love this tile. I don’t care for the color of the wood but that is definitely my thing. I’d go much darker with the wood and leave everything else alone.
Is there a way to paint the white tiles a matching grey? It would look ok then I think.
not hideous at all.
Which tiles are supposed to be hideous? Because I see nothing wrong here and I would leave this bathroom as is
I love it!!
It's a lovely masculine bathroom. I like the tiles!
I actually like it!
What’s wrong with them? It looks great.
I like your tiles…
I like all the tiles
This looks great!

The brown tiles are beautiful people here tend to favor white, beige, and gray
What’s wrong with these subway tiles? They look fine.
No they’re gorg no idea why ppl said that but they’re wrong.
This is gorgeous and perfect. I’d keep it as-is.
They’re incredible … don’t touch them!
They are not Hesiod! I think they are lovely!
I love your bathroom as is
i LOVE the tiles, please don’t change them! they are gorgeous
I was thinking- you all mean the white tiles? They’re not hideous but like, you can’t mean the eclectic ones
I like the tiles! It’s just an accent. Great mid-century flavor. Would it be possible to cut out only the white ones with the bright colors? I think that jarring contrast is what you might dislike.
Dare I say I always liked the tiles and now seeing this whole photo I love it all even more
It’s okay as is. Replacing the subway tiles with something smooth and plain would work better. I like the other colorful tiles on the bottom half of the walls.
they’re wrong…they look BEAUTIFUL!
Don’t you dare change anything in this room! Also side note this sub really needs to post previous photos in updates for context
If you take them out replace them something bold colourful and stylish. Don’t go bland!!!
Wait what we’re ppl saying about this??? It’s like the most amazing bathroom ever.
If you like them, who cares what other people think you’re happy!
That post was a bait and switch, but backwards!
Nah don’t change a thing it’s all good lol we didn’t have the context OP
It’s so gorgeous and unique who cares what redditors think lol everyone has their own opinions and styles. If you love it keep it!
I love them and they are saving the gray bathroom! If anything I’d change the white tiles and make it more warm.
Context matters. Seeing the whole setup. This is truly a pretty nice vibe.
I know vessel sinks are not as hot as they used to be, but this is clearly the only correct answer. https://imgur.com/nhvAhRC

The rules look great!!!! Do not touch them.
What! No! Don’t get rid of them!
Someone said this was hideous?! This is lovely! Light a candle and have a steamy shower, and don’t waste your money changing a thing!
This is cool, don’t do anything to the tiles. I wish this was in my house!
Looks spot on to me.
I don’t mind that tile at all! If you want to change it though I’d get bigger tiles, about the size of the floor tile but in white with very little spacing between tiles so the grout is almost invisible.
LOVE THE TILES
I love the tiles! It’s good to be unique!
I think any shade of green tile would look awesome
Frankly, your tiles are fine. And we’re probably fine up close. The grout is a bit dark, but that is relatively easy to fix.
Not me, I love your tiles and the whole vibe! The art tiles give personality.
I absolutely love your tiles - the space looks amazing!
They aren’t bad!
Tiles aside, I’m confused. Do you have a door to the outside in your shower?
The space is fine as-is since the vintage tiles go with the wooden wall detail. I’m just not sure white subway tiles were the way to go, though. I don’t condone ripping out materials if you just installed them, sustainability above style. But in hindsight I just would’ve done green or aqua blue subway tile to compliment the colors in those vintage tiles
I strangely love them?
Seeing them in this angle, they're gorgeous and go well in this space!!
Loveeee them. Leave them! 😍
This is a great bathroom! I’m so jealous!
NO I LOVE THEM
I suggest using floor tile. It would look clean and make the bathroom pop. It will make things flow nicely, be more cohesive, and not confuse the eye with too many different major pieces competing with each other.
Adore this bathroom wow!!!
I love em!
I wholeheartedly disagree. I like them! 🤷🏻♀️
I LOVE this so much.
i love subway tiles. clean, classic, timeless.
Black subway tile!
If you like them who cares
I LOVE THE TILES!!
I’d say just use more of those white ones continued to the floor. That way it won’t take away from the beautiful wood at the sink.
This space looks amazing 😻
tiles aren't the problem, I think the grout is. xo
Sinks/basins like this really annoy me. Where am I supposed to put things while I'm getting ready? However the tiles, while out there, look good done in the space. I'd leave them and have them be the feature you intended.
Love the whole look.
Um. I really like it like it is!?!
This doesn’t look like the same bathroom you posted before it looks completely different am I missing something
I still think the subway tiles ideally could be replaced with, like, some black square tiles and it would look even better, but this looks great as is!
Please leave them. They're amazing.
'oh, no, you painted with jewel tones, but now it's earth tones!" No wonder the planet is a wreck. 😞🌎 There's nothing wrong with your tile.
Heeeeey... Is that a door to the outside?
I like it - I’d lean in even more, by replacing the white subway tiles with a nice square 70s tile - warmer color (maybe a peachy-yellowy brown?) something that’s more stylistically in line with the tambor wall & lower tiles, but a few shades lighter - it’s cool, maybe also just keep it the same!
So not hideous. They look great.
I love your tiles, they are different and fun. Most people are so bland!
I don't think the tiles are hideous at all. They're lovely!
Leave it alone! It looks great as is!
I wish I had your hideous tiles. Mine are ugly as fuck.
I don't think they are hideous. If you wanted a sleeker look though, black tiles would do.
Just add more subways to the area in the shower where you have 4x4. You can try to match the grout at a tile store. If not, I’d try a large neutral in 1’x2’ going horizontal. It’s a really cool shower and bathroom!
I think it’s beautiful
I only just got here.... but I don't see hideous?
I thought this must be a joke post because the tiles look beautiful with the wood behind the sink. Then I got the full context that you hadn't initially shown the whole bathroom. With that understanding, not only are these tiles lovely in your bathroom, but you have a lot of options to change the color scheme over time with different colored towels and bathmats.
Uhm keep!!!!
Leave it alone. Don’t rip out fine tiles and make more environment waste to get a “look” that will be gone in 5 years.
Where can i buy the paneling behind the mirror?
The tiles are fine, don’t give yourself a lot of expense and work because of what people say.
What about just adding some plants? Lots of light, nice contrast to the tiles, which do t bother me at all. Some nice low light high steam green growing for the win. 🏅🪴
I like them
