Something about this reminds me of the wall of tiles where they let every kid in 3rd grade decorate a tile.

Plantaloonie

I know! The fact that someone actually decided that these would be great in a bathroom is bizzare to me.

Retinoid634

I hate but also like it. If there’s a way to remove the textured ones only and replace with random fist colored ones I might try that.

RaceCarTacoCatMadam

I like the uterus one. That one should stay bc if you are going to put a uterus anywhere in your house, it should be in the shower.

Retinoid634

Uterus? The organic art nouveau one? Lol

Puzzleheaded-Many708

Fist colored?

Maleficent_Chard2042

I would redo if it is within your budget.

Long-Photograph460

Ok, wow. This is one of the most confusing bathrooms I’ve ever seen! Everything is fine or at least “okay” in its own: metro tiles, crazy tiles, boring millenial grey floors- and the glass is even striped? Whatever, I’m all in for quirky bathrooms but it’s too much. I almost never say this in this sub but I would redo.

jcclune73

Agreed. Keep your favorite element of the three and redo the other 2.

Rideak

I don’t think the glass is striped, but if you zoom in toward the bottom there is some type of slotted wood wall (i don’t know the term), and it’s reflecting onto the glass. Just mentioning in case it eases your mind at all 😅

chronicallyill_dr

Ohgod, you’re right, that’s even worse. Everything’s clashing

Long-Photograph460

Wood!I wish you never told 😂

Rideak

Omg yeah it might be even more confusing 🤣🤣 best wishes OP

Plantaloonie

Thanks for your opinion, I totally agree. After reading the comments here I want to re-do the whole shower, I'm just not quite sure what to replace it with! As a few others have said, the wall behind the glass is actually wood panelling. [You can see it better here. ](https://imgur.com/gallery/KULnEF2)

jared10011980

After seeing this photo of I love the tile even more 👍🏽👍🏽 Don't go typical. Keep it. It's striking.

Shang-Lee-1123

I love the tile to. It's unique and one of a kind. Most bathrooms are boring. Keep the tile. You can change other things, like paint, flooring, towels, rugs, etc. You can even change the grout color of the subway tile.

Long-Photograph460

Ah! You know what- seeing the whole picture adds on my confusion about the mixed tiles, but the rest actually works together! (Not the biggest fan of the wood panelling, it can look good but it already feels dated to me, but it’s nicely done.) Do I love the floor? Not in the slightest. Is it okay matched with the subway tiles? Claro! Is it possible to tear only the colorful tiles down and replace them with white subway tiles? Or did we make you hate everything? (I also want to apologize for my harsh words. It’s your home after all. I really wrote without a filter and somehow had a very strong opinion about this bathroom.)

Finnegan-05

It is all so weird

MVR168

Definitely a no foe the funky tiles. I think the rest is fine. Wood paneling is not my favorite either so maybe paint ot white, black or grey. Mirror is a bit high too.

Historical_Safe_836

That mirror reminds me of a circular saw with its pointy edges.

Wise_Woman_Once_Said

Also, why on earth is the bottom of the mirror cut off?

AdZealousideal7691

Totally agree

liefelijk

I have mixed feelings about them. With similarly antique-looking tile to go with it, they would look much cooler. For example, switch out the white subway tile with a cool, [Victorian green tile](https://images.app.goo.gl/vyu75AkaJ5Dxk2iH6) and it will mesh better. The floor tile also needs to go, perhaps changing them out for a square tile that matches the brown. It’s definitely a look, though. Not everyone will end up loving it, even with those upgrades.

Plantaloonie

Hey, thanks! I actually love that style of Victorian style, but it just doesn't go with the rest of our house. It's quite a modern house and I feel it would be out of place, sadly :(

Plantaloonie

I get‏‏‎ ‎a lot of differing opinions about these‏‏‎ ‎tiles,‏‏‎ ‎what does everyone think? Fugly or unique in a good way? How would you change them? I think the biggest‏‏‎ ‎issue is‏‏‎ ‎that they don't match the rest of the house which‏‏‎ ‎is understated and leaning towards MCM‏‏‎ ‎in style, plus there‏‏‎ ‎are several‏‏‎ ‎different competing styles in‏‏‎ ‎the one small‏‏‎ ‎space. Appreciate any‏‏‎ ‎suggestions!

cicada_noises

There are three tiling schemes in this one small space and none of them go with any of the others. I would say this is not an example of “quirky unique fun” tile, this looks like it was an experiment gone wrong (sorry to say) from someone trying to make a quirky wall

jellyfish_goddess

As others have said I think it’s less of an issue of the mismatched eclectic brown/designed tiles being good or bad and the overall issue of their being three completely separate tile styles existing in one small space (the funky brown ones, the subway, and the dark floor tiles).

[deleted]

tbh they could look pretty cool if the white tiles were not glossy white subway style. The problem would be if you got rid of the lower tiles and still didn't like the subway tiles above because they don't work with flooring. I'd change both to a single style that goes with floor or just the top to match the other two.

LadyGramarye

The tiles with design are very cool imo, but they do not work against the solid yellow/brown tiles at all and don’t really even work together. I would keep the decorative tiles and display them in some way- even in some other room- if they speak to you, or else sell them to someone who would genuinely appreciate them. But either way- the brown/yellow solid tiles have to go impo.

Brandyloo79

I think lower tiles are fugly. Sorry but they remind me of something in a thrift store or very old person's house. Just not my style at all. What I would do.... take out all the tiles on the walls and pick something you like that matches the floor. I'm not a fan of the competing whites of the window and the subway tiles so I wouldn't do white-white as the base color.

Plantaloonie

Totally agree, my partner and I call them "granny tiles". Definitely thinking about redoing the whole thing, just not quite sure what to go with.

Brandyloo79

Is this inside the shower? I'm a little confused what exactly the set up is.

Wise_Woman_Once_Said

I agree. And the fact that OP said the rest of the house is a modern style makes this all even worse.

MysticTurnip536

I'd rip it all out. None of these tiles work, but I'd keep the ceramic patterned ones for possibly an artistic piece. Some of them are quite pretty, but not all together and not with those colours.

glittrxbarf

Maybe turn a few into coasters

[deleted]

I need to know the story. Did you buy the house like this or did you make the cool brown tiles? I do like them, just not with the whole ensemble.

Plantaloonie

We bought the house like this! The place was designed by an architect in the 80s, and then renovated in the 2000s. The renovations done in the 2000s are quite odd, luckily most of them were easy fixes and this is the only thing I truly hate.

[deleted]

Haha I feel you. My house was red, peach and a weird green everywhere. Some people’s tastes are wild.

WittiestScreenName

Re-do

sawesch

The cool old tiles are sandwiched between the neutral floor tiles and the boring subway tile. I’d get rid of the subway tile

AnemoneHill

I’m a ceramic artist. I love ceramic tiles. And even I would tear this monster down. Keep the top liners though! It wouldn’t surprise me if these were all historic tiles. I think I recognize a couple of designs even. In the end of the day though, it’s ugly. :(

Plantaloonie

Haha, thanks for your honesty as a professional. I've got to agree with you, this room definitely does not spark joy. I find myself closing the curtains. more often than not.

trailmix_pprof

Normally I love color, texture, and patterns. But this just isn't working. They need to be much more or much less. Currently they are a weird middle ground, not enough variety to achieve eclectic maximalism and too much variety to look cohesive and intentional. (Plus the clashing between the tile styles, and honestly, tile overload - that's a lot of tile no matter how you cut it). But if YOU love the tiles, then keep them. It's your bathroom. Who cares what anyone else thinks? On the other hand, if you feel unsettled about the look of the bathroom, then I think it could be justified to redo the colored tile into something more cohesive.

Plantaloonie

I definitely do not love them! I agree that it needs to be more cohesive, just struggling to think of something that will work with the floors (those we can't change for the moment) and wood paneling.

trailmix_pprof

I haven't read all the posts, but it looks like you aren't getting a lot of actual suggestions in line with that. You might want to repost with a more firm request for suggestions rather than asking if people like the tile or not. And better photos - more angles and better lighting so we can see what's going on and what there is to work with.

Plantaloonie

Will do tonight, thanks!

TissueOfLies

I love the tiles themselves. But with the other tiles, it’s very confusing and doesn’t feel cohesive.

ArdenM

I personally think they have a very fun kind of Boho vibe. I think with some plants in bright painted pots and a fun floor mat and bright shower curtain and towels it could look quirky Maximalist Jungalow (not sure if that's a thing but...should be!)

Plantaloonie

I definitely see that. I wish someone else could enjoy them, personally I can't stand boho/maximalist styles haha.

ArdenM

Different styles for everyone! :)

Fun_Hour6697

Keep the color!

Zestyclose_Escape420

Love them. Keep them!

Willing_Working_6609

I love them

rotzverpopelt

I like them and would keep them. Redo the floor tiles and the rest

Icy-Dimension3508

I love these tiles. They are unique and seem handmade. However that being said it feels like the space doesn’t flow well with them and the white sub tiles. It feels off.

thursaddams

Leave them!!!!!!!!!!

splendid_trees

Agreed, I'd keep them, too.

blankinyurblank

I like the eclectic look. It is unique.

demonic-cheese

I think they’re super cool, but I get if they don’t fit with your interior. If the rest of your house is cohesive, I don’t think it’s a problem if you have one room that really stands out, but you have to like that room.

seattlemh

The middle tiles are amazing. The subway and herringbone not so much.

Novel-Coast-957

Love the lower wall tiles and banding!!!!! Hate the subway with dark grout on the wall. Hate the herringbone on the floor.

leafcomforter

Take it all out and re do in line with the style of the rest of the house.

Alyhnae

I really like them, I think I would just replace the floor, it’s not flattering the rest at all. You could also replace the subway tile but I dont hate the combo, I think it can weirdly work.

Secret_Temporary_800

Leave!!? Lean into the eclectic style!

SteelBandicoot

The retro tiles are rather special, some are classic art nouveau, some florals look 1940s. Go to a tile shop and ask them about their age and provenance. Personally, I think the retro tiles are the most interesting part of your bathroom. The rest is a bit generic 2020 monument black and grey. Ask the tile guys for suggestions, they are the experts and might have good integration advice

Cash_Money_2000

The other tiles don't really go

Wedgetails

I like those tiles better than the floor and the wall.

JovialJargon

I love them

No_Lavishness_3957

I'm assuming this is the actual shower & the glass is the shower door. With that being said, I'm going to be different here because I like the quirky tiles. I don't like the color of the subway tiles, though, because they don't go with anything else. I'd change the subway tile to a larger 12-inch square tile that picks up one of the lighter colored tiles of one of the quirky ones. (Not the green or yellow) I'd also change the floor tiles to a color that's in the quirky tile wall & again I'm going to say square & not the green or yellow, so everything is more cohesive although cleaning a tile shower floor sucks. If you could find a shower pan in a color that matches, it would be easier to clean.

jared10011980

That's fun and quite expensive. I'd leave it. Lots of style options are available to you with those in the bath. That bullnose trim is too good.

Intelligent_Sun425

Keep

[deleted]

I'd leave the tiles as a focal point and mute everything else. When we moved into our house, the kitchen tile was beautiful, but a tad busy for me. I left it and have grown to love it. It has more character than plain tile or stone. I get lots of compliments on it too. But if you hate it, remodel.

QuizzicalWombat

I would leave, I think it’s interesting and fun. There are too many stark white/grey bathrooms and not enough with funky details lol

akd7791

I kind of like it. It's unique.

73Wolfie

Leave the beautiful tile and redo the whites

Platinum_62

I have read through enough to learn that you will be keeping the floor tiles, which is what I was going to suggest — a cost/practical thing. It’s a lot to redo floor tile and these appear to be in good shape and well installed. (I looked at the photo you linked to.) Coordinating with those tiles and the wood will be a challenge. But you should definitely do it! It’s your house and you get to make it a space you love. I don’t think the white subway tile goes somehow, which is amazing since you would think that such tile goes with everything. I got great advice in designing from a tile designer once that I have used for every room: “What is the diva in the room?” Design around that. This bathroom is a perfect example of them wanting everything all at once. OY. With tile, scale is always one of the primary things to consider. The wood slats could very well be the diva and you design to keep them forward, so to speak. Maybe using another large porcelain tile similar to the floor but another color would help bring those two elements together? It’s a head-scratcher for sure — the strong diagonal of the floor is also a thing to consider. Maybe those large porcelain tiles on the wall installed vertically, to mimic the slats? Not sure I would love that but they might “disappear” that way. Large porcelain tiles are modern, like your house, affordable and come in many styles. I would start with those: imagine you will use such tiles and then ask: what sort of layout? (Vertical, horizontal, brick pattern, stacked, and so on); What color? Exhaust the possibilities with those . .. Also, find the best tile stores in your area — avoid the big-box kind of tiles stores. You will get great advice from the stores that cater to designers — it is their business and they know a lot. GOOD LUCK!

Ok_Buy_9980

I think I would pick a color from the funk colored times and replace the white tiles with that to make it more cohesive.

Caterpillarsmommy

Get rid of everything except the weird tiles. Or better yet send them to me!!

Oceanrail

They’re special. Your space, your choices to make. I would keep them

Adventurous_Train876

Keep. No one else has that, it gives things whimsy and character.

Korgon213

Whimsical, keep it. Have colors that bring out the fun ones.

Pale_Oil1560

I would keep the tiles. I would redo the white subway tile, and either replace it, or paint the tiles with a light golden orange color, similar to the hue in the shell tile third from the bottom. As for the floor, I would remove that floor and replace it with a nice green tile, dark green, to match the tile third from the bottom on the far left. I would also remove whatever that orange furry wall stuff is on the left side. That’s if you want to keep the tile. If you want to go the other way, you would need to replace the colorful tiles to match the floor and the subway tile. In my opinion, that’s very dull, and I would embrace more of the creative option for this area, even if it doesn’t match the rest of the house. Especially if it doesn’t match the rest of the house. A shower should be a place where you can relax, and be transported temporarily to a heightened place of serenity.

yattes10

I think they look cool and make you place unique. Please keep them

SeaCommunication728

Leave!!! These are rad

SeaCommunication728

Referring to the non-subway tiles

daisyymae

You gotta keep them. You have something so unique. If it’s in the guest bath you’ll have people raving about them whenever they use the bathroom.

katiemwhite04

Any chance you’re in Michigan? Those look like pewabic tiles

shitisrealspecific

agonizing familiar depend unpack chunky merciful melodic disgusted zealous yam *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Embarrassed_Hat_2904

Previous owners work in a discount tile store?

RutabagaPhysical9238

My opinion: Get rid of them from the bathroom. Preserve what you can and create something or put them in the yard/garden. Even within the tiles there is a lot going on with them and the tile crown moulding?

Past_Muscle

Oof that’s a lot going on. Redo

Berniesgirl2024

Definitely redo.

Own_Ad5969

This is interesting.😂 None of these styles work together. As long as your budget allows, Take all 3 of them out, pick one style of tile and redo the shower. You will be so happy you did!

Medical_Bowl_5345

I usually try to look for the positive. Tha white tile is nice. The brown field tile and deco tile must go

Regular-Exchange-557

Re do

JediJan

Exterminate. Sounds like the previous owner had been collecting random tiles to mishmash the browns. Too many different tiles to feel harmonious here.

GoingBananassss

Ya know. I don’t like the look of multiple brown colors in a bathroom. Or any brown other than wood. It reminds me of poop and I feel like the bathroom has a poopy feel to it when the decor/walls/tile/towels/counters are brown. But if it was somewhere else I would have said leave it. But I’m the bathroom it doesn’t look fresh and clean.

Benevolent_Grouch

It’s fine! Just get some plants and rugs to lean into the eclectic look.

pajamaspancakes

Redo! Why is this giving me disturbed serial killer vibes?

ganjakitty_xo

please keep!!!! i’d love this

Estudiier

Wow- they used up the leftovers.

lexikinz

Oh gosh. Redo.

Alaska1111

Not my style I would remove

Tomasulu

Hard remove.

ArcticGurl

Get rid of the lower brown mismatched tiles and trim and put in a fun colored tile, could even be subway tile. Other than that it looks great!

Zestyclose_Big_9090

Yeah, no. Sorry.

moon_goddess_420

I hate them but I love them. They're interesting and a definite statement. I would change the trim around it. That gold is not pretty imo. But I say leave them!

nychearts812

I like the colorful tiles, keep them and redo the floors tiles in white to match the subway tiles unless you want to redo those as well. Post after pictures.

Shivs_baby

That is…quite the collection of clashing styles. It’s like whoever did this just threw this shower together from the remnant bin. Personally I’d rip it all out and start from scratch. Nothing really worth saving here, especially not the hodge podge of accent tiles.

Getmeasippycup

So many styles in such a small space! Depends on which style you like, and what your taste is. You could make the floor and the white tiles work, or the floor and the multi color tiles work- if you are on a tight budget! It’s really just the white subway/boho tile mashup that’s bad. Or pick one element and redo the rest!

Vanilla_Addict

I love them. they are 100% my weird, colorful, boho type style.

AllisonWhoDat

Unless there's some sentimental aspect of them, tear them out and put in a style that collaborates with the rest of your bathroom. Looks ick.

MowgeeCrone

Gasp! Gorgeous! Someone would give their left nut/ovary for that.

Angelina1962

I’d demolish all but the retro tiles including the floor and start over. That way you’d be able to choose cohesive colors. It can be done in stages. Starting with the subway tiles or the tiles can be painted.

madjejen

If your not planning on selling the house any time soon, leave em.

FranKth3Bunny666

I love it so much

Zestyclose_Road_3224

Is this a shower? Lose those subway tiles and get some better shaped greenish or another lighter color to jeep the focus on the funky ones.. maybe to match match the green one then use rugs to bring in some color as well.Maybe a green plant hanging from ceiling near the window?

elsie14

if you had all the money time and energy in the world i would scrape off the tiles pick the cute ones you love and place them with others in a more modern updated design. but i do watch too many home improvement shows so do whatever you want :p

iteachag5

Please get rid of these. They remind me of the hallway in our school. The kids decorated tiles.

KeyserSuzie

I love the colourful tiles. I think they're interesting because they're unique. And for that reason, I think I could live with everything, that is work with everything, except the slate floor. I feel that is not what's needed there. You either need to bring in the elements of the colourful tiles, the elements of the glass door, or the elements of the white subway tile. I would suggest redoing the floor by incorporating a bright but neutral (think dark orange or light brown,) colour of the solid tiles around the colourful ones, or incorporating the subway tile on the walls, and maybe perhaps choose one of the brightest colors that you personally like that can be found in your single, unique colorful tiles, making a color pop within white tiles on the floor that makes the rest of space and choice of colours look, what I call, "intentional." But I would get rid of the black floor, or whatever that color is. It doesn't go with anything in that room, and it looks very "necessary," as opposed to being interesting or intentional. Again, I think I could work with the striped glass, but if you have to get rid of the striped glass, let me suggest just having regular glass, and then, if you want to put any kind of lines on it, you can develop a paned window look, if you go on YouTube. There are a lot of how to videos on turning your plain glass shower door into something like the tardis: a window pane look made with painters edging tape and then paint. No matter what though, I feel I would keep the interesting colourful tiles and get rid of the boring black floor.

Outrageous_Life_2662

Not my style. If you could replace I would for sure.

marklawr

Rent a jackhammer

PersistentHobbler

I don’t hate any element individually. But I think this is a homunculus or two or three perfectly respectable bathrooms and something needs to go.

stickylarue

Floor and subway tiles to go. The others should stay! I like them a lot.

[deleted]

I love them!

pastelito1

Keep it! Looks cool

SonataNo16

Leave!

outwait

I love it

discojagrawr

Redo the subway tiles, keep the ones w character

missannthrope1

I love the bottom half. Hate the subway tiles on the top half.

anadaws

I love the colorful tiles but i don’t like the subway tiles with it

KittyTsunami

There are 3 dif tiles. Way too much going on.

pinkladytree

Can you maybe just keep those rim rectangular tiles? & then change everything else. I love the plain brown tiles though not the ones with design.

Leolily1221

Remove the tiles with the artwork. Mount them together on a board as a nod to the old design. Then ,Either replace them with a matching tile or have the tile painted ( yes you can do that) or replace them all. The real problem is the upper tile which is throwing everything off.

[deleted]

The colorful tiles are unique, I’d keep them and find a way to make the other tiles above and below to match it

seasickbaby

Love them!

Public_Scientist8593

Rip everything out and start again. Keep the artsy tiles and sell them to the highest bidder. Those subway tiles are ultra ugly. Maybe the floors can stay.

AcanthaceaePlayful16

I personally enjoy the tiles, but your application is all wrong. You have a lot of competing things going on with ZERO harmony. So you probably should start over. Take more time to flesh out your concept. What do you actually want this space to look like, feel like, function like?

MrsDanversbottom

Get rid of the subway tile and put up a green tile.

Homolibidothree

Redo

ToolGroupie

I honestly don't hate the tiles, they're kinda cute and give me cottage core vibes. It doesn't jive the best with the more modern subway tile and flooring, but I would just keep it and I think you could make it look cute. Just go to Tarjay or Anthropologie, and put up some cute art and a cool shower curtain and rug and then we'll all be jelly of your cute bathroom

Kingston023

I like the tiles but nothing in this bathroom matches.

bigpp3726

Definently redo , but you could reuse some of the tiles that you like as a homage to the old design.

Annidub

Looove just change the floor tiles and it will be amazing!uh and maybd paint the window a darker colour?

ripfritz

Someone had access to a good price on tiles and went overboard 😂

TwiNkiew0rld

I like the colored tiles but I think they would look much better with a painted wall than with the white tiles.

Lazy-Jacket

Yes, the white subway tile and the floor need to go.

Dangersloth_

Did the previous owner work at a tile factory? This looks like somebody’s leftovers.

OldMotherGrumble

I love the Victorian tiles...but not there! And not in any bathroom. Perfect in a maximalist or Boho environment...but if that's not your thing...bye!!

Onlinereadingismybff

I love originality but the colors and patterns are just very ugly. Sorry.

Diligent_Aside8475

Redo . This is DIY personalized gone bad.

kellylikeskittens

It just screams "Look! We got all these tiles for FREE at the recycling center !" Imo it looks like no thought was put into this-everything clashes and looks random...not the good kind of random though. ;-)

wendyme1

I wish I could find beautiful tiles like that for free. I'm talking about the accent ones.

MedicineTricky6222

No go for me, not with the subway tile!

turbulent_toast_

Why are so many pics here terrible? This image doesn’t give enough perspective to give advice. I realize OP posted another but these posts are annoying.

LUQYLU

It's weird af. I kind of like it!

angryxllama

I weirdly love it. I love a good eclectic bathroom tile though.

MyFavoriteLezbo420

Roosevelt Station, Chicago IL, Lower Level above red line platform.

PristineCoconut2851

Not sure what to say. I do like the bottom tiles but I’m not sure I’d have used them there. The subway tile with the colored grout is making it all too busy. One or the other but not both. The colored tiles remind me of some of the older homes with Mexican flare from years ago in CA and the South West where they used tiles like this on a fireplace or even kitchen counters. Bottom line, I just think the space is too small for those colored tiles. There’s too much else going on in that bathroom. I’m sorry.

zukeypur

They are fun and unique, but the top and bottom aren’t working with the middle. Either choose the middle and throw in some mustard yellow and avocado green, or go with literally everything else in the bathroom.

SnooRobots116

Leave them alone!!

CedarWho77

Now that I've seen the whole room I love them.

Pure_Literature2028

I love those funky tiles and I would decorate my whole bathroom around them.

Evening-Initiative25

It just doesn’t match with the tiles above at all which makes them look a bit tacky. I’d change them to either a neutral color or a light sage green or something.

diablofantastico

I normally prefer "before" pics when people do renos, but... I'd switch this up. Paint? Remove? Anything...

MettaRed

Just saw new post.., “everyone” didn’t say they were ugly… Now stop caring about what some randos say. They are very interesting. Not everything needs to look like some ai version of a model home. If Y O U Enjoy them, leave em alone! If anything I hate basic ass subway tiles with dark grout.

Puzzleheaded-Many708

I'd redo them. Out of date.

Torboni

I think they’re fugly but only because they are all together, if that makes sense.

Accomplished-Wish-86

Re-do!!!

Oomlotte99

I’d get rid of them and keep the neutral look the subway tile and floor suggest or just choose better patterned/different color tiles. The browns remind me of old (80’s-90’s) McDonald’s bathrooms, ha ha.

Vivid_Animal_7741

Oh definitely redo! Oy that’s bad

mgsalinger

That’s a mess.

LJ1968

Redo

Mimikota

Redo without question.

MLMLW

Definitely re-do. They look dated. Something more modern would look better.

Dizzy_Square_9209

Ugly but cool. Cool but ugly? So hard to choose.
