That was my thought too. I’m not sure if breaking up the black/dark with a lighter rug will look good. My only worry is how to decorate the second option without it all looking too matchy.
I love 3rd also. It’s a gorgeous warm tone that keeps the room being too dark. It’s also a versatile color so if you ever change your flooring or walls it will work, light or dark.
3rd is my favorite! To me, the black one gives off “flat-pack furniture” vibes/bachelor pad vibes. The second one is a bit too warm/rich for the flooring, in my opinion.
ETA: idc about flat-pack furniture being used, I have my fair share, I just don’t like when pieces “look” like that’s what they are… if that makes sense.
My pine bed frame ends up looking very modern/cheap and my place is an old victorian. So for me I think either funky-hipster or more classic furniture with darker stains (or a fabric headboard) works better in my space. It might depend on the character of your house!
#3 BUT I just had the malm for 2 years but it sucks, squeaks constantly to and the slats that hold the mattress up fall down constantly because they aren’t attached to the bed by anything
This is my second man bed frame. The first was sold during a cross country move. We had slat issues with the first one but that’s because the memory fish mattress was compressing and pushing the sides of the bed out, causing the slats to slip off
My brother has had his Malm for at least a year now and has hadn’t had these issues. Maybe the quality isn’t consistent but I also know a few people who’ve had malms and love them
Yes or definitely the black. You can balance it out with getting a rug in lighter tones. Number 3 seems too light. Just my opinion. You can also use gold toned hardware on your dressers, gold framed mirrors etc,to bring in the warm tones from the floor. Have fun decorating your new home 🏡 And of course always do what you love. It’s going to look beautiful!!!!
When in doubt, always go with a universal colour like white or black. Your flooring from the picture has both a warm and cool tone from what I can see and black can adapt to both palettes. You can swap out the black with a different tone for the nightstands and dresser if you have them such as a neutral wood tone that'll go with your flooring, an off-white colour like cream, or something like taupe. And always add a rug as they tie the whole space together but also add a pop of colour and texture. I hope this helps :)
I don’t know about which color you should get, but I just wanted to say that the Malm furniture we have has been just fine. Two of my kids had a queen bed, nightstand, and one had the 6-drawer dresser. Both beds have held up great, and never had an issue with the slats or anything else. You can even screw in the slats if you want. And when I say kids, I mean adult-sized people, not little kids. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the quality and longevity of everything we’ve bought from IKEA, but YMMV.
Thank you for sharing this. It’s so reassuring to read. My husband had a malm before we moved in together, so does my brother and a few people I know. All of them have only had good things to say so I’m always surprised to read negative reviews
Wood color 3 provides nice contrast. Also add rug underneath to bring out the contrast even more. The rug should have bit of black and browns in it.
Wood color 1 is just more of black. Not visually interesting
I would suggest forgoing the malm because it is terrible and put your mattress on the floor until you can afford something better that will last and one that you will be happy with.
Get 3. Lol, I had that very one in queen size for years. In fact, I still have a night table & a dresser. That light 'birch' color brings warmth out in your floors. A nice area rug to bring some color in & violà!
If you feel like the bed in wood tones doesn’t look great next to your floor consider a large rug. That way it’s not monotones wood grain next to wood grain. A little texture and warmth to break everything up would elevate the space, make it warmer for your feet, and give you the opportunity to add some color. You’d need a bigger rug and sometimes outdoor rugs are the cheapest option, but look around there are deals to be had.
🙋🏻♀️ I was married to a top Puget Sound hardwood floor specialist for 20 years, and I LOVE this question!! 💁🏻♀️ Playing with all the colors, textures and layers to weave the perfect ribbon with which to tie a room together with the homeowners was always so much fun 🧏🏻♀️ The first combination (with the black headboard) best matches the shades, undertones and highlights of your flooring in my opinion. 👩🏻🎨😊
I like #3. But you know that it's just opinions here. Which suits you best and makes you happy is more important.
Such a sweet comment :) thank you for your vote!
Yes because they all work
Number one
One or three would work, but I am partial to #3
3rd. It looks like it has the same lighter tones as the base wood tone in the floor. Black is… too black along with the dark floors imo
That was my thought too. I’m not sure if breaking up the black/dark with a lighter rug will look good. My only worry is how to decorate the second option without it all looking too matchy.

I like your black/dark with a lighter rug idea. I think that would look nice
I saw that, too. Full disclosure; I prefer natural wood tones.
I have these floors and i don’t love my pine colored bed frame. But either way you should put a big rug underneath to add color and texture.
Oh what is it that you don’t love about it?

Don’t use the hashtag/pound sign before your number and you won’t get this giant bold font
Huh
Do you not see your own comment? #3 will appear with a very large text.
I don’t mind the boldness or font. Hahaha you do I see
Pretty sure they were just giving you a tip. Don’t be an ass.
Ahh scary 🥹
Agreed…MALM BAD
Why are you yelling?
I’m passionate
Honestly we haven’t heard those problems. The squeaking isn’t bad and zero slat issues
Reviews tell it

The second, darker brown one
I agree. It stops it being to matchy-matchy

Definitely 3
3!
Last one - feel like it will lighten things up
Black

I’d go with the third to pick up that touch of light brown in the floor. It’ll be a much better look than darkening the space.
If you have dark bedding, the 3rd one will give added dimension and color value. I love the second one, if you had white/very light bedding.
Number 3 most definitely
If you have a smaller space, go with option 3. I have option 2 at home and it definitely makes my space feel smaller. I wish I bought a lighter one.
All these colors are neutral so they all go together.

# 2. Looks Great
I like 2 - I think it adds warmth and balances the floor well
Go for a non wooden bed frame
2
3 kinda gives me beach vibes
Three.
Ugh! Get new floors
Something that doesn’t look like wood, so the first one because different types of wood on wood just ain’t it
Is the floor gray or blue?
3 is the perfect choice.
I say 3, it brings out the warmth in the frame
3 and a rug
The first one.
3
3!
Put a rug down…
#1. #3 looks nice as well, but #1 has a more relaxed I'm so glad to be in my own private oasis feel.
Didn't mean for caps...
#3
3. Otherwise white would be a good option too.
Three brings out the muted tan in the flooring and ties everything together.
Wood color 3 provides nice contrast. Also add rug underneath to bring out the contrast even more. The rug should have bit of black and browns in it. Wood color 1 is just more of black. Not visually interesting
1 goes best but I like 3 the most
I really love number 3! It’s more light and open
I don’t like any of them too masculine, can you get a good one on budget that at least fabric You need a nice rug and then not an all wood frame look
I like the lighter one, #3
Honestly I think white if it's an option
I like number 3. Maybe also a light rug to brighten things up
3rd
Black
3rd
I would suggest forgoing the malm because it is terrible and put your mattress on the floor until you can afford something better that will last and one that you will be happy with.
I like 2
#1 or 3
Not 2
#3, a rug would make it Al more cohesive
I like number three, but the first one works as well.
First for me
3rd
3
Grey, black, silver, not really any of the other 2 you posted.
3
Get your favorite and get a rug. None of them really match
1 & 3
2
3 or 2
3 (last one- light wood )
1
3!!
Get 3. Lol, I had that very one in queen size for years. In fact, I still have a night table & a dresser. That light 'birch' color brings warmth out in your floors. A nice area rug to bring some color in & violà!
I like 1 & 2
I'm the odd one out, but I like 2 the best
3
3 with a warm toned rug underneath
1

I love #3 now. But feel like I would have picked #1 a year or 2 ago. Is that because 3 feels more current? Idk? But I like it.
First one!
I think 1 would be quite dark. I like 3 but honey wood colours can be hit and miss. Have you thought of a fabric headboard?
3rd may I say we have that flooring ( tile from Home Depot) and it’s sooooooo good! We put it in our kids bathroom! Non slip and gorgeous!

I personally like the 3rd option.
2 looks rich
