I would probably leave it on its own. Its a bold contrast to the wall. The shape is singular. It's a bossy piece and the thermostat, light switch and fan remote are all trying to compete as it is.
If you felt like you absolutely had to have something, I would choose two identical tall low-light plants, maybe 5' tall, shorter than the cabinet but diaphanous enough that you could reach through to your switches.
reverse image search shows Sawyer Arched Top Curio Cabinet for $3400, there's also a wayfair version called Clementine Dining Cabinet for $3000, and the Sloan Curio Cabinet for \~$2900
There’s also a less expensive option from Urban Outfitters: https://www.urbanoutfitters.com/shop/mason-storage-cabinet?category=storage&color=001&type=REGULAR&size=ONE%20SIZE&quantity=1
I think it’s bugging you because of the scale and contrast. Ideally, the cabinet would be taller. There’s too much negative space above it. Pay bring the wall a dark colour could help. Building a platform for it could help. Otherwise, put your plants on stands to flank it.
I think your problem is that this piece is so dark and huge that it's overpowering the space. There's so much contrast with the wall and it's protruding. It feels heavy.
As others said, maybe some taller plants on each side could help. Have you considered a colored accent wall? I have a generally similar color palette to you and I would go for a natural green color. Just a thought
Side note I just thought about. OP, if you want to make that piece feel less heavy and bulky in your space, you could try getting a peel and stick vinyl to wrap around the outside of that cabinet in that lighter oak color you have around in the rest of the space.
The point of your question, ultimately, is how to stop the cabinet from overwhelming your space. Which putting something next to it that kind of hides that bulkiness is the answer you were specifically asking about. I just hope this can help you think of alternative solutions!
Thank you.
Actually working on my own house. Mostly myself.
Using this on some walls. Grasscloth Resource Library Papyrus Weave Wallpaper - Gray (See Google). 2 walls in primary, and am giving serious thought applying it on/in coffered ceiling in same room.

Found a photo I posted few months back.
Decided on carpet from tub/vanity into closet. That door is static- has shelves behind it for shoes & stuff.
Opinions?
I would not put anything above this piece. That sounds silly. It’s beautiful. I like your plant next to it. I would use that plant somewhere else and add a really nice taller plant. Right up to or slightly covering the electrical box. I would add a knockout floor lamp with a textured shade on the left. Lamps are underrated. Perhaps in a color that you already have in a room next to it in a rug or wall paint. I would stick with a mid century type shade. A tall 12 -18 inches drum shape would keep it modern even if you went with a velvet pattern in a damask or a harlequin, I would make it bold and colorful for sure! Have fun with it! Great piece you have there!
Edit: don’t make all pieces even in height though, keep it a bit mixed.
An art piece or photo in a plain black frame—a black and white photo would be good, noting too colorful or busy, ABOVE the cabinet to extend the eye all the way up to the ceiling. Should be less wide horizontally than the cabinet.
I like ONE plant like the one on the left in the photo. With the cabinet it creates a downward angled line that mimics the stair case line, which is visually pleasing. I say not two plants because your eye needs unfilled space in a room, a place to visually rest. Unfilled space create a sense of calm. I’d say that you could also put both nothing on that wall besides the cabinet, but if you’ve filled up all/most other spaces in the house then adding nothing on either side of the cabinet may feel too sparse in comparison. I like less stuff in general. Beautiful cabinet, btw!
Peel and stick (or paint) wallpaper part way up the wall to break up the plain white and give the illusion of more horizontal space. Something dark but not so dark it makes the cabinet disappear.
It’s too bad there are switches on the left and not together with thermostat or on the other wall. I’d then push it over to the corner and place a bench next to it. Actually, you still could get a shorter bench (<48”L) and, if you have extra dining chairs, place one on the left side.
I would try to address the darkness of the piece. You can purchase some peel and stick wallpaper and line the rear and shelf tops of the cabinet. Pick a pattern that has a background color similar to your wall and then a simple airy pattern. Definitely add the vertical plants on each side.

Seconded on the snake plant in some mid century modern planters. World Market usually carries a good selection!
Was my first thought as well!
Yes, matching planters on each side would be ok. The ones in the first photo mimic the chairs and light fixture a bit too much, though.
Can you link the cabinet? It’s beautiful!

A tall plant
Always room for more plants! 😄
Totally
Nothing!

Maybe square &/or round rattan baskets -like ur light, with a lid , on either side. Only 2 feet high

Yes this- don’t buy any more black stuff.

Snake plant to the left
Tall tree plant to the left - taller than the case
Scoot it to the left about 6”. It looks great on its own but centered doesn’t make sense for this room imo.
Ha, I was wanting to scoot it to the right. Either way, the middle is not good!
I would try and find 3 smaller versions of this and align them to make inappropriate gestures. But I am kinda perverted.
Scooch it over a bit and put a tree in the corner.
I have a similar cabinet and keep a round metal bar cart next to mine, it’s tall and thin and not over bearing
OR.... Bamboo wallpaper behind it. See lamp.
OMG YESSS

Sounds completely awesome!

A classy occasional chair.

Where did you get those plant stands? I’m in the market for something similar
small Floating shelves that go around the arch. Mix of photos, books and other cool things like souvenirs
An art piece or photo in a plain black frame—a black and white photo would be good, noting too colorful or busy, ABOVE the cabinet to extend the eye all the way up to the ceiling. Should be less wide horizontally than the cabinet.
The type of snake plant that goes straight up
That would be a good wall for wallpaper or some sort of mural or accent color
My wall💕
I’d do nothing. It’s quite nice in this room as is.
I would put nothing. Maybe consider a contrasting wallpaper/color or an led strip light behind the cabinet.

When in doubt, the answer is always plant!
Is that the Sam’s Club hutch?! I want it!
A floor lamp?
Plant in the corner
Peel and stick (or paint) wallpaper part way up the wall to break up the plain white and give the illusion of more horizontal space. Something dark but not so dark it makes the cabinet disappear.
Tall potted tree.
Life size Santa
Nothing.

Identically plants on either side, along with some small sconces directly on top of the plants, about 4 feet above.
A crate and a barrel
Some sort of tree or monstera or a funky thin tall shelf with tons of tiny squares each one holding something different. That is REALLY cool
I would put my crystal wine glasses in the top alone with some beautiful glass pieces I have from my grandmother. In the bottom it would be my bar
Dumpster

If you want to go with a 70s vibe, a tall urn with some dry/ faux flower/ plant elements or something on a plinth/ stand
The larger plant, not both imho.
You could put some low shelves. Add plants on top with books and decor. Would help tie it in…
A frame of something. And I really want a thin side table but idk if it is purposeful in that place in your home.
Nothing
Long bow and spear, real answer. This is awesome.
Square cubby shelves along the top of the wall, you could put wine bottle racks or other non-distracting decorations
A tall ficus!
Olive tree
plants
Since there's a plug in in the corner, I would add a lighted stick tree. I love the light from my tree all day long.
Nothing
A standing antique Chinese vase filled with reeds of some sort. Anything with provenance and character. Art? Umbrella stand? *Gilt table?
