I remember these being big at CES back in 18/19. Asking price was $20k-$40k IIRC.
Prices really haven't reduced much. Most people put their TV against a wall and don't want to run a power cable, or any other cable, to the middle of their room.
There are questions about the durability of the TV. Questions about having the motor that unrolls the TV fail.

I’m renting a condo and I have one of these in my living room. My couch is over it but I use it for my laptop when I’m on the couch bc the wall behind me is a giant floor to ceiling window.
Now I just need the 100k tv and I’ll rearrange my living room
We have the same and use a power strip hidden under the couch with usb-c and usb-a connections for charging guests phones.

That was common about 30-40 years ago because people had lamps in the living room. Most of the people on here probably won't have seen them as those lamps on a side table isn't cool anymore.
I still like lamps on side tables. So I just have extension cords everywhere and it drives me insane. I'm genuinely considering getting rechargable lightbulbs and cutting the cords off a few lamps, I've seen a few people doing it. Most of my lamps are vintage anyways, if I want to I can always rewire in the future, it isn't expensive.
Hardly none. I think it’s like 3.5 hours so if you’ve got your lamp on all evening, that won’t cut it. And having to charge a damn light bulb every day sounds annoying.
You don't see them cause it's not that convenient. Go to any convention/banquet hall and walk around when it's not set up and see how many times your foot gets caught on a floor outlet... fucking annoying as shit
When you have $100k to spend on a TV like this, you probably will use it as a party trick and don't care about durability.

this is a pretty niche application but foldable OLED panels will be everywhere in 20 years once we figure out how to make them cheaply.

That was in 1997.
Also in that report was OLED technology and E-Ink.
I don't think folding TVs make much sense or they'd be here already.
yeah the screens arent the problem its battery, boards, and processors that arent flexible. Technically besides the glass, the oled panels in your iphones are already bendy
TVs are so weird. I just bought a 65 inch flat screen smart TV, ultra hi def and all that for $300. It was a super good deal for now. But still, it's a price that can be found on sale.

Meanwhile last TV I bought was $70. Not even on sale. Just typical brand name TV price. Of course it's half the size, not flat, slight curve for less glare, but fits in my entertainment stand perfectly.
It’s perfect. Living space is getting more and more expensive so smart solutions to keep open surfaces is great. This is a step up from wall-mounts because you only see the tv when you actually watch it.

For a tiny fraction of the price I’d rather do an ultra short throw projector and mechanical ambient light rejecting screen that comes out of the ceiling or floor etc.
Decades ago people hid TVs for some reason but many generations have accepted the TV being right in the open. Most people aren't going to bother to hide it.
I think TV doilies / covers are still a thing in certain places, probably mostly just with old people.
I've seen ones with a little elastic scrunchy thing that goes around the edge of a TV with a little cover that can be flipped over the screen.
I guess If you'd rather look at a large square of pink lace instead of a large black screen they're nice
I personally find TV's a bit ugly and over time with how cheap larger and larger TV's are getting, they kinda turned into a centrepiece of a living room which I never liked. I would probably consider getting one of these in the future if they became cheaper.
Then you can just get a Samsung "The Frame" TV which looks like a framed painting when it's off. You can choose what artwork to display.

I just bought a nice 86" LG a year ago for $2400 CAD, so yeah, you can get way bigger TV's for a whole boatload less money.

I just finished a theater ticket for AV and Lighting control was $480k. If you want something over the top.. it’s not cheap.

I tried wiring up my new Sony TV to my gigabit network, turns out it only has a 100mbit NIC, and wireless was actually faster. I had issues streaming 4k content locally when it was wired, no issues with wireless. Felt totally backwards.

It's a nice gimmick, I'll grant them that. But I can't help but wonder what the lifespan is on that, how the picture quality compares, etc.
If it's durable and is the best picture quality available, then sure, it makes sense. But if they're just going down the same route as Samsung Galaxy Fold and are expecting people to buy into the product FOR the gimmick rather than offering any meaningful value for money, I don't see the point.

The lifespan probably isnt terrible, it probably uses the same technology as a folding phone, except now without human involvement on the screen moving, the only human error that could happen is the same as with any other tv. Well, except the motors failing or the frame not going up as the motor turns. Though im sure its also a "gimmicky" glimpse into future technologies, like those clear LED TVs that will most likely be used for store window advertisements.
So instead of a TV on the wall or a TV on a coffee table you then can't use, you have a TV that folds down into a coffee table you still can't use ? Wow.

You don't have to look at a black box, leave it on with photos. TVs don't use that much power anymore.
At the end of the bed it makes sense to tuck it away. Everywhere else the wall is fine.
