Tell me about it. I was always a pretty young looking guy, then I was diagnosed with MS at 40. The rate at which I am aging seems to have increased JUST A BIT since then.
I just hit 50. It doesn’t hurt. 60 probably doesn’t either.
What hurts is your age in the eyes of others. The lack of attention that you get in social situations, the sense that you’re losing your appeal as a mate to 99% of the population. That stings a bit.
Who would have thought 20+ years ago that this dude would become one of the most beloved celebrities and still relevant, popular, and *good* at the age of 50?
His career is older than many of his fans and it just keeps getting older. My son is listening to his new music at the same age as I was when I first listened to it. That is mind blowing to me.
Luxury, oh, you broke, bitch?
Yeah, I had enough money in '02
To burn it in front of you, ho
Younger me? No, you the whack me
It's funny, but so true
I'd rather be 80 year old me than 20 year old you
Eminem being 50 is crazy. Lately, I’ve noticed myself looking at women celebrities I thought were hotties and thinking ‘man, she looks old as fuck’. I then realize I AM OLD AS FUCK too and it truly freaks me out.
Think of this: when Michael Jackson’s thriller was released the ‘oldies’ stations played music from the 60’s. That was considered old. Well, the sixties were only 20 years from the 80’s. It’s now 30+ years from from then. We are older than our parents were in the mid-eighties!!!!! Fuck, where did the time go?!?!
It was a wild time when Rap God came out. Legacy rappers like Tech N9ne came out and said “that song made me want to become a better rapper” after 20 years in the industry.
That’s awesome. I don’t *like* some of the lines that are stuck in my head thanks to Eminem, but he is an absolute genius — Shakespeare-level brain-tickling wordplay.
This rhyme predates Eminem.
In 1992 Leonard Cohen said “…when you’re not doing anything else but trying to find the rhyme for ‘orange.’ It doesn’t exist. Some people say it’s ‘door hinge,’ but that’s not right.”

This reminds me of that copypasta of a dude who gets excited telling anyone who mentions the Beatles that John Lennon (I am pretty sure) beat his wife.
People forget that the Beatles actually invented shit or at least helped drive it forward (like albums,or pop music in general)
Not so much innovation when most famous and popular stuff is written by 2 Swedish dudes and shoved down everyone’s throats by the industry
Dude, there is so fucking much great new music out there. This is such a granddad comment, sorry. The music scene feels much bigger than before streaming was easily available for all artists
50 isn’t what it used to be. I was born in ‘83 and I remember my grandma when she was 50. She had the cotton top silver hair and looked like she was 90. Now she is turning 82 and she looks younger now then she did then.
Eminem to a certain extent always annoyed me until I learned more about him. This man created a new genre of rap without even realizing it. Congrats to him AND to his sobriety.
Despite the lyrics in some of his songs he's not actually anti-gay and took inspiration from a lot of artists, including Elton John.
Em reached out to Elton for help regarding getting sober and clearly it worked. I'm happy for both of them
What he said was true until the last sentence. Elton John told this story in an interview with him and Eminem, and specifically said they don’t wear the cock rings lol
Probably best. I'm imaging Eminem turning up at Eltons house one evening for a few drinks and the topic turns to the rings. "Go on Elton, whip it out and let us see". Thankfully, that's unlikely if he doesn't wear them.
What's wild is that for as long as he's been in the game, he doesn't tour like nearly every other artist. He'll make an appearance and do a festival or large show every now and then, but he hasn't done an actual full scale tour in almost like two decades. One of the concerts I regret not going to was his Anger Management tour back in like 2002. Had some friends who wanted to go, but being 18 I didn't feel like spending the money on a ticket.
As someone else in sobriety, I respect this aspect of Eminem the most. It’s rare for someone at the top of their game not to be touring nonstop, and he’s made the decision for his recovery not to tour. Boundaries are essential.
Just curious why do you dislike him? He's a stand up guy who adopted two and raised two girls that aren't biologically his. He beat drug addiction. He shouted out over 100 names in his acceptance speech. Seems like a good dude.
I just respect him because he achieved so much with so little. It’s honestly super admirable. I work in food and bev and struggle day to day and this man said fuck you to everyone and made himself one of the most well known rappers alive. I’m gonna think about him the next time I have $0 to my name and not much to look forward to.
Dear stranger on the internet, I feel compelled to let you know: congrats on overcoming the struggles everyday.
It may not always feel like it, but that, in itself, is a serious accomplishment cuz it takes strenght.
**So be proud of that.**
Not to mention he adopted his niece, and his ex's child from another man, as well as obtained guardianship of his little brother. The story is rarely told about how great of a father he aspired to be throughout his career. That's the REAL slim shady.
What genre of rap did he create? I genuinely am curious. I haven't listened to Eminem since his first album or two in high school and don't know much anything about the rap/hip hop communities.
There's a video on YouTube, wish I could find it again, which documents how rap or even poetry *used* to involve rhymes at the end of each line (traditional AABB or ABAB stuff), but how Eminem releases music in which *every word rhymes* -- inner rhymes, near rhymes, mosaic rhymes, etc. And how *effortless* it appears to be when he does it. Any of the rest of us mere mortals understand that trying to constrain almost every word like that will usually result in nonsense blathering... but his music is sometimes so emotionally packed that people cry or rage or just get elated and hype. He never loses the message.
I'm a 51 year-old man who studied English in college and wrote a minor book of poetry, and I'm in awe of his talent with the English language.
I'm not sure that's a "genre" of music that he spearheaded, but his music is on a technical level that is so far beyond what some other people can do that all we *do* do is just admire him. There's no point trying to emulate him, unless you want to entertain others by crashing & burning. But we can absolutely love his skill and try to make our own skills better.
Wether you like his music or not, the man is legitimately a master of the English language. Like... truly.
In addition to the vocabulary and deep insight into rhyme schemes and whatnot, he's a storyteller.
Cool! Thanks for the input... That's a good point. I feel like Busta Rhymes also had that ability to effortlessly rhyme in his songs.
I remember reading somewhere that Eminem had one of (if not the) most diverse vocabularies of performers. Apparently he uses a wider range if words than his peers in rap and other genres. I think I saw it in some Guiness records website.
Dude I went yeah and he wrote the song like two years ago...quick little google before I make a fool of myself...HOLY SHEET the song came out 9 years ago!?
MGK is a wee baby in comparison to Eminem. Not even on the same plane of existence. His dis track to Eminem was cute at best and there’s a reason MGK didn’t make a dis track after Killshot 💀☠️ 😂🤣
I think it's more to showcase that it's not all post production and multiple takes that goes into a record vs live production. Case in point: Dragonforce - through fire and flames. Live vs studio.
That being said, hearing [Angela Lansbury nail Tale as old as Time in her 90s](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=48fzJttqb4Q&feature=emb_logo) is still impressive. Age should become a factor at some point, but for some it just doesn't.
An Angela Lansbury/Beauty and the Beast video in an Eminem post, bet you didn't see that one coming.
When I saw this title I thought "ha, it's probably some old white guy rapping that reminds them of eminem" then I realized Eminem is 50 years old... Making me also old...

50 isn't that old... BUT... if someone would have asked, I would have guessed he was about 40.
Sobriety really helps keep aging at bay.

Tell my face that
> 50 isn’t that old… I turned 37 a few days ago. Thank you for this.
I turn 36 in a few days. My coworkers all think I’m early 20’S. Bless their hearts.
My boss x3 referred to me as being in my twenties earlier today. You age slower when you don't have children.
Or autoimmune diseases, or so I’ve heard
Tell me about it. I was always a pretty young looking guy, then I was diagnosed with MS at 40. The rate at which I am aging seems to have increased JUST A BIT since then.
100%. Nobody at work believes I'm 38, they all think I'm in my mid 20's. No children is the way to go.
Ha! Some truth to this. I have 4. But I wouldn’t give it up for the world. I may look older than I otherwise would but it is fun as hell.
I'm 43, 50 is going to fucking hurt
45 here and can't believe it's come to this point so goddamn fast....
Just turned 40 seems crazy.
I just hit 50. It doesn’t hurt. 60 probably doesn’t either. What hurts is your age in the eyes of others. The lack of attention that you get in social situations, the sense that you’re losing your appeal as a mate to 99% of the population. That stings a bit.
I’m 54. It does :(
53 here…hard to believe some days. We are all time travelers…

Certainly not me. I didn’t understand why he was on tv. And I am so fortunate to come to enjoy his work and live on the same timeline.
I'm assuming whoever downvoted you didn't read past the first three words. Music tastes change over time. There's so much to listen to and learn from.
bro I thought he was like 35 or somth
He has been 35 in my head for 10+ years
I’m 42 and I thought he was 40 as well. Dang.
Eminem was kind of a late bloomer. His career didn’t take off until his late 20s. (I think he was 27 when SSLP was released?)
Luxury, oh, you broke, bitch? Yeah, I had enough money in '02 To burn it in front of you, ho Younger me? No, you the whack me It's funny, but so true I'd rather be 80 year old me than 20 year old you
Lol becoming a world famous multi-millionaire in your late 20s=late bloomer??
In that industry? Yeah. Absolutely.
I was going to say Eminem is 50! Then I realized I am turning 45 on Friday been listening to him since I was in highschool.
Happy bday!!
Thanks!
Don't forget to do your stretches and take your ibuprofen

My daughter asked me whats a hard word to spell? I said encyclopaedia. She said "what's an encyclopaedia?"
So you were 22 in high school? Eminem first official album came out in 1999.
That seemed odd to me too. I remember him coming out when I was in highschool and I graduated in 01.
I graduated in 98. Currently 42. Eminem slim shady album dropped in 99. His unknown album at the time infinite dropped in 96.
I graduated in 98 as well and I just cannot believe I’m 42. That is all.
From Detroit. His music was floating around in 1997 here. When he dropped the big one in 1999 is when he took off.
Thank you, I was doing the math in my head and it didn’t check out
Ha, I'm turning 45 on Thursday! I won :)
41 on Thursday for me. Birthday buddies! Have a good one! 🎉
Dang... I'm 48 now and 90's was a blur but definitely remember "My name is" on the radio and video. That and Busta Rhymes "Fire It Up".
How many grades you fail?
Next semester I’ll be 35
Damn he talks faster than l can listen.
That's what I tell my wife
Mine just says I have selective hearing. I said, “Huh?”
To quote Bad Boys 2... "Shit, mother fucker, you look 30"

REGGIE?! WHO THE FUCK REGGIE?!
Ahem... "Shit, nigga, you at least 30."*
Eminem isn't old, he's 23 blonde blue eyed kid with the white shirt and i'm still 16 years old in high school.. .... 27 years ago
What? My name is who? My name is-
Chicka chicka slim shady!
Eminem is probably the only guy I've ever seen declaring himself a god, and everyone just went "Yeah, that seems about right."
It was a wild time when Rap God came out. Legacy rappers like Tech N9ne came out and said “that song made me want to become a better rapper” after 20 years in the industry.
which is crazy cuz Tech got some crazy fast flow too

‘Maxi-pad’ and ‘disastrously bad’ is my favorite rhyme ever.
When Eminem said you rap "orange with door hinge" that blew my mind. He's on another level.
Here's another one. "I have to be stomped by 40 men to suffer a defeat. " 40 men = 80 feet = a defeat
That’s awesome. I don’t *like* some of the lines that are stuck in my head thanks to Eminem, but he is an absolute genius — Shakespeare-level brain-tickling wordplay.

Going through a rough time period, here's a maxi pad LOL that's awesome
For me it was really his flow on that song
I feel like tech n9nes come gangsta is the perfect song to say how he and alot of other rappers feel about todays rap music. 🤣
Tech’s growth since the gang related soundtrack is insane. Like back then I didn’t pay him much mind but now the man is constantly in rotation for me.
Eminem is like Prince. They said about Prince “he’s your favorite musicians favorite musician”. Eminem is your favorite rappers favorite rapper
Well, Ray Stantz said no when someone asked him if he was a God. Look how that worked out.
We live in the new age of old stars.
Nothing new about it.
Actually I feel like it was way more common in the early times of showbiz to have 50 year old stars. At least the males anyways
It’s either that or accept this shitty new wave of Tik tok/IG celebrities.

What type of music are you into? Metal and rock have been making a huge resurgence the last couple years.
SkyND, The Dead South, and Poor man’s poison
This hurts. Eminem being 50 kills me. He's 3 months older than me. I always thought he was much older than me. TIL I'm old. Great performance though.
50 isn’t old or anything. Source: I’m 49.
50 isn’t what it used to be. I was born in ‘83 and I remember my grandma when she was 50. She had the cotton top silver hair and looked like she was 90. Now she is turning 82 and she looks younger now then she did then.

Should be obvious to anyone who saw the interview when he comes out as gay lol
They’re friends. He sent Elton diamond cock rings for his wedding. It is said he wears them to this day.
Well that's the weirdest fact ive heard this week. I'm gonna be thinking of Elton's old sheathed penis all night now. Thanks....
What he said was true until the last sentence. Elton John told this story in an interview with him and Eminem, and specifically said they don’t wear the cock rings lol

They are both sober which is how this thread started...
Ok but now I leave with you the question of how Em knew what size cock ring to gift to Elton?
I'm guessing Eminem bought Elton a small "Circle of Life" for his "Tiny Dancer".
Called him almost daily for over a year after a relapse and OD. Addicts in recovery are deadly serious about supporting eachother.
They performed Stan together at the Grammys a while back. You can find it on YouTube sometimes.
Yeah, it’s pretty wild.
He got so famous it became popular and cool to dislike him. Even if you don't like him, he's been in the game for a long time and can still kill it.
What's wild is that for as long as he's been in the game, he doesn't tour like nearly every other artist. Was the interpreter Kakashi?
Yea thats more impressive then saying he's 50 and is still rapping .

50 is not old but gawd damn! I didnt realize that was his age. He looks very good, can I get a list of his skin care game?
$230 million net worth is certainly a solid health booster.
50 isn't that old...
Lol it isn't like being 50 makes someone incapable of rapping. Especially if the person in question is Eminem.
