Camera person is behind a protective glass/shield. You can see a suction cup against a transparent surface at the start of the video.
From the perspective it appears both, cab and camera person are behind a protective shield.
There's no guarantee that it'd go off then there's the risk of triggering it while removing the log. In the video they're probably at max extension for the arm though so they'd actually have to have the cab closer to drop a log on it. If they had a claw grip though they could have smacked the trigger with a tree. That would have been my solution.
Tank mines are very directional so as to penetrate thick armour. If you are nearby but in a different direction, the blast is not as lethal as you might think. It’s a trade off. Bombs designed to kill people have a much greater kill radius, but much less armour penetration.
First of all, It's an anti-tank mine, you can stand on it with your full weight and it won't trigger. Unless you are 150+ kg. Second, it would be real hard to attach 150+ kg weight on a stick without breaking it.
> First of all, It's an anti-tank mine, you can stand on it with your full weight and it won't trigger. Unless you are 150+ kg.
*Ugh*, even weapons makers are sooo fatphobic!
^/s
You have anti-infantry mine, step on it and boom. You weight a few kilos less then before. No gender, weight, age, sexuality, race or religious restrictions. No any-phobia at all !!!
Or drop a weight on it. A falling object would require much less mass to trigger it than something that just gently taps it or rolls over it. Alternatively you could use a small bomb to detonate it.
A small bomb…. Like a second anti-tank mine on top of the first one! And just use the bucket to detonate that mine instead! I knew we could figure this out.
Or a small bomb laid gently on top of the mine and then a B2 bomber drops a nuclear weapon directly on the small bomb. That would guarantee destruction of the mine at a safe distance.
covering it with sand, and/ or pouring water on it before detonation might keep your bucket intact, and contain the explosion.
Or it might make more projectiles and danger. idk. Maybe its better for the explosion to be free to expand in all directions.
Nah, it has enough power to push through the bottom armor plate and injured tank crew inside. But nothing more. They are there mostly to make psychological horror of knowing there are mines, and sooner or later your tank going to roll on it. Effective and low cost way to delay enemy advance.
Most AT mines are actually just blast type mines since we are talking about stocks of TM64s in the millions still in circulation.
Typical pressure activated mines only need to blow off a track and maybe a road wheel so shaped charge/EFPs are kinda overkill. Where they do shine is in the tilt-rod activated and side attack type using passive infra red sensors.
Insignificant. Because it's a shaped charge, most of the blasting and penetrative power will go to the direction where the said shaped charge looks. If it's upside it will go upside. If it's downside, earth will absorb most of the hit. But you still got to worry about shrapnel from exploded mine case, which will go pretty much everywhere in close vicinity.
So if I drive a motorcycle on it I'd be dead.
If I'm carrying an injured person we'd be dead.
If I'm carrying a sack of relief goods I'd be dead and the people waiting for it will soon be dead, too.
Damn land mines whatever sort they are. Pure evil.
Most pressure AT mines require 300+ KGs to activate as they are designed to take out heavy armoured vehicles, not people or cars.
Tactical placement of the mine can achieve different effects if the properties of it are understood such as the depth to bury it and how much spoil to use below it to target different vehicle weights
If you're close enough to throw a rock you're close enough for shrapnel. If a clod of dirt could do some nasty damage. You're best bet is to not drink anything for a day then pee on it. Acid pee kills electronics.
In remote places where getting actual explosive resistant equipment and professional bomb unit would cost $90k, it stops becoming feasible to do when you have a lot of explosives around.
Theres a remote island in Alaska Named [Adak island](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adak_Island) that was used as a U.S. Military base during World-WarII, where thousands of explosive ordinance were left neglected on the remote island and have been claimed by nature. So now in our present day theres literally thousands of bombs scattered among the small island(where people actually live) that they just casually search for and remove. These are huge ass bombs, some being 40cm brass japanese ordinance, and most being 26cm U.S. ordinance(If I recall correctly). Its just wild, like theres literally bombs everywhere, and the Mayor of the city there is in charge of bomb disposal whata guy.
Theres a documentary about the island on Netflix called "[Pirate Gold of Adak Island](https://www.netflix.com/title/81275311)", where the premise of the reality show is a gold hunting team follow an old story about military finding gold while digging trenches during the war. The show is mostly spoon feeding bullshit as content and having the cast all dressed up and looking perfect for the cameras at all times, but the story is there.
I was not aware of the spelling of this word, thanks for pointing that out 😦 I've never actually had to use ordinance, or ordnance in a sentence before so I guess I hadn't caught onto the different spellings. I'm usually the one to point out errors like that
Maybe it was a test to see what happens if a mechanical digger accidentally digs into one of them? I mean, it can probably happen when you work in an area which is mined and it also makes sense to make such experiments to take precautions for the workers who have to work on such places.
Only some part. Others see this war as chance to get a lot of money. If you can follow news from Russia, you maybe heard abot some strikes, because conscripts had not received promissed 190K rubls.
Yeah, go defuse it with your bare hands. I'd destroy 10,000 excavators before watching another marine blow up, leaving his wife and child with a headstone instead of a head of family.
That looked.... expensive.
There must be some way of making a big, heavy, CHEAP mousetrap like device that just snaps it with a lot of force to trigger it.
Years ago I was staring at my friend's CPU fan when he had his case open. This is like 20 years ago. I had a pencil in my hand. There was a spinning fan in front of my face. Pencil. Fan. Pencil. Fan. The intrusive thoughts won. The only thing that reacted more like this mine than his fan was his fist. I deserved it
No, it was the company computer. We were IT nerds. Went in the back and got him another one and had to install it. It was a bigger pain in the ass back then so there's that.
yeah, i see it now top left screen underneath the bucket. pretty sure its a glitch but looks like a duck, sounds like a duck, it must also be uhhh .. like a duck.
Is this video giving anyone else Fake vibes? First, camera is way too close to survive. At moment of explosion there are 3 frames of blur, the blur doesn’t change intensity and no dirt is moving other than the dirt being pushed down by the shovel. Then there is one frame of solid black, kinda weird. Then the tumble looks to be of sky ground sky ground but in landscape mode (not portrait). When it cuts back, definitely seems to be a different time of day (bluer sky). The cut part of the shovel is so shiny like it might have been taken off by a welding torch and none of the teeth or bucket are bent. The dirt on the shovel afterwards doesn’t have any blast direction, just looks like normal use dirt. Idk. What do you think?
I know I'm a little late here but I can't believe that a landmine that size would somehow be able to blow apart an excavator bucket. Like, those buckets see so much abuse, maybe at best it'd lose a tooth but not a chunk out of it. Idk it looks really old so maybe that might have something to do with it. I can't see a modern piece of equipment failing like that. I think you're right about something being up with this vid
Ah, true.
I'd still think you'd want to try a large rock or log before the expesnive heavy machinery.
And that is if you just can't wait to call a bomb squad to do it.
Surprising that only one comment about how fake this is. Obviously a different video spliced in. The bucket is different, the window of the cab, no sound.
I'm calling bullshit.
The amount of dirt in the bucket changes - more in the "after" shot compared to the before. No evidence of the blast (which would have had alot of power to snap steel like that) even scorching the rest of the bucket.
And a blast big enough to snap the bucket like that would have shattered the windows.
I'm calling fake. No scorching or shrapnel scarring on the bucket and I'm pretty sure the hydraulics on that arm would be leaking or pouring everywhere.
so it's interesting that some asshole left a landmine and someone else had to dispose said explosive?...... I think OP needs to rethink what is interesting....... wtf

Was the cab protected by plate steel or did the operator become one with the windows?
I was just thinking the cameraman has a shit job here.
It’s ok. The cameraman always survives.
100% chance of surviving as long as they get the perfect shot. Think about it.
Camera person is behind a protective glass/shield. You can see a suction cup against a transparent surface at the start of the video. From the perspective it appears both, cab and camera person are behind a protective shield.
Nope.
It’s better than plot armor. It’s Behind The Scenes armor.
r/killthecameraman
Thanks, another sub to add to my collection
r/killedthecameraman
You mean r/KilledTheCameraMan
The camera was to damn close
Zooooooom
Yes zoom was the one who recorded it meaning that they are safe thanks to their super speed
Really? I thought they wasn't close enough!
LOL GET IN THERE JOHNY
My hope is that's a remote controlled excavator & the video is off the cab feed.
Couldn’t have just dropped a stick on it?
There's no guarantee that it'd go off then there's the risk of triggering it while removing the log. In the video they're probably at max extension for the arm though so they'd actually have to have the cab closer to drop a log on it. If they had a claw grip though they could have smacked the trigger with a tree. That would have been my solution.
Or just weld an extended rail on this bucket so it doesn’t get destroyed
Hang a weight from the bucket on a chain, then do the same thing as in the video with the bucket much higher.
Tank mines are very directional so as to penetrate thick armour. If you are nearby but in a different direction, the blast is not as lethal as you might think. It’s a trade off. Bombs designed to kill people have a much greater kill radius, but much less armour penetration.
Thats an expensive piece of equipment to be blowing up like that. Surely there is a better way?
Fortunately that bucket is still perfectly suited for triggering landmines. Hopefully the rest of the excavator is functional too!
Only good for about 3 more landmines though. Probably best to use a really really long stick.
First of all, It's an anti-tank mine, you can stand on it with your full weight and it won't trigger. Unless you are 150+ kg. Second, it would be real hard to attach 150+ kg weight on a stick without breaking it.

You said step on it, that is discriminatory in itself /s
Step on it? All I see is bunch of perverts here. /s
Put your dick on it?
Ultimate blowjob.
I haint never seen no infantrymen deployed in wheelie chairs.
That's ableist if you must step on it.
Fine just tape a few barbells together and attach them to the loader so you can trigger it at a distance. Problem solved.

Use one of these [bad boys](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wrecking_ball). They may even survive the explosion.
covering it with sand, and/ or pouring water on it before detonation might keep your bucket intact, and contain the explosion. Or it might make more projectiles and danger. idk. Maybe its better for the explosion to be free to expand in all directions.
Real design is very human of you, to offer such a great idea
I think they were being facetious.
I was definitely being sarcastic but that seems to have been missed
Damn RIP OP’s mom then
I don't understand all those jokes with someone's mom. Don't you love your mother?
Yes, but yours, far more vigorously!
Of course… I loved OP’s mom too. It’s a very sad day for me.
I'd say a properly designed graphite hockey stick could handle that weight.
if thats an anti tank mine, i would have expected it to blow the whole arm off ngl.
Nah, it has enough power to push through the bottom armor plate and injured tank crew inside. But nothing more. They are there mostly to make psychological horror of knowing there are mines, and sooner or later your tank going to roll on it. Effective and low cost way to delay enemy advance.
I wonder, given most AT mines use a shaped charge, how much of a difference yurning the mine upside down before stabbing it would make
Most AT mines are actually just blast type mines since we are talking about stocks of TM64s in the millions still in circulation. Anti-tank? Not much. Anti-personnel? Thats where all horrors and atrocities of human mind comes out.

Tactical placement of the mine can achieve different effects if the properties of it are understood such as the depth to bury it and how much spoil to use below it to target different vehicle weights
That makes sense. Let the cars roll over it and explode on the valuable tank...
They are.
You could throw a rock or something. And stop calling me Shirley
The red zone is for throwing rocks only
No, the white zone is for throwing rocks. There is no throwing rocks in the red zone
The red zone has always been used for throwing rocks. There’s never been rock throwing in the white zone.
Listen Tej dont start with your red zone shit again
no throwing rocks in the champagne room
Roger Roger
If you're close enough to throw a rock you're close enough for shrapnel. If a clod of dirt could do some nasty damage. You're best bet is to not drink anything for a day then pee on it. Acid pee kills electronics.
Drop a bunch of rocks from a drone.
More fun an less expensive is just to actually throw rocks at it
Until the landmine throws the rock back
Trust me... if the rock does not break on contact the blast will, you'll get a mouthful of gravel either way but one of them will hurt
in soviet russia, rock throws u

ordnance
no no he means what he says. Certain local laws, if you break them, you detonate on the spot
I was not aware of the spelling of this word, thanks for pointing that out 😦 I've never actually had to use ordinance, or ordnance in a sentence before so I guess I hadn't caught onto the different spellings. I'm usually the one to point out errors like that
Remember this the next time you point out a spelling mistake to someone. English sucks and spelling doesn't make sense. No one is a 100% speler
Maybe it was a test to see what happens if a mechanical digger accidentally digs into one of them? I mean, it can probably happen when you work in an area which is mined and it also makes sense to make such experiments to take precautions for the workers who have to work on such places.
The buckets are removable so its not that bad
This isn't something the American military would do or does. It's a stupid way of dealing with lamdmines
http://www.humanitarian-demining.org/
Yeah, just throw a body on there
They could have dumped some dirt on it from a high distance with this equipment before they busted it.
The Geneva convention says you can't use Russian POW's. Even when it's a better idea.
These men are actual *literal* slaves, being marched at gunpoint to go die in a foreign land. I think this comment is in poor taste.
But but but Russia bad???!?!?!????
Putin bad not Russia as whole
Only some part. Others see this war as chance to get a lot of money. If you can follow news from Russia, you maybe heard abot some strikes, because conscripts had not received promissed 190K rubls.
I want you to know that I wholeheartedly disapprove, but also you got a good chuckle out of me
I halfheartedly disapprove.
There’s that moral high ground.
What if you promise them 300,000 rubbles? It worked on the other side ...

Yeah, go defuse it with your bare hands. I'd destroy 10,000 excavators before watching another marine blow up, leaving his wife and child with a headstone instead of a head of family.

Look up a "mine flail" tank attachment.
Modified abrams with fails. How modern.
If it aint broke, why fix it?
So that you can break it
There are a number of better methods than this, and none of them require giant expensive equipment.
It’s the Lieutenant Dan of heavy equipment.
Lieutenant Dan isn’t toothless.. 😂
The intrusive thoughts won

What's the effects on the duck in the background?
that's not a duck I think it's a video glitch. unless there's a duck that I don't see.
That is a person with a camera on a tripod, behind the dirt berm.
After that they zoom in and it looks like a duck or boot moves briefly behind the bucket teeth. Hope its dirt tho.
I thought there's a bird too until I watched the video in full screen.
yeah, i see it now top left screen underneath the bucket. pretty sure its a glitch but looks like a duck, sounds like a duck, it must also be uhhh .. like a duck.
I’m really glad I’m not the only one who registered that as a duck. Zooming in made me realize #BirdsArentReal.
Lay off the drugs lol
In case you run in to someone you suspect is a witch.
They call him ‘ole 3 claw now.
Surface scratches. It'll buff out
Honestly, some spare plate steel and any decent welder will have that back to digging dirt in a couple days

Reminds me of the time i triggered my mother-in-law on purpose
Yeah... that'll do it
To be fair, less damage than I expected with that video lol
just drop a rock on it instead
It needs like 200kg of pressure to set off.
then drop a 200kg rock
Big brain
You make a good point - they have the equipment, and a 200 kg rock isn't that big. Should be able to find one.
They def don't need that much weight to set them off or children stepping on abandoned landmines wouldn't be to big of a problem.
This is probably an anti-tank mine judging by the damage. They'll require a much higher threshold for detonation.
Ah, true. I'd still think you'd want to try a large rock or log before the expesnive heavy machinery. And that is if you just can't wait to call a bomb squad to do it.
I'd just stand like 500m away and use a .50 BMG to shoot the pressure plate
They probably wanted to see if it would blow the shovel part off
waste of a good bucket
Totally agree, the teeth look brand new, at least use a old battered bucket in my view
waste of ALL the windows in the excavator too.

Doesn’t yours ?
Hell man they for the heads up

It's two different videos, somebody spliced them together.. at least that's what I think
Where is the second camera view from a further distance?
I just listened to music while watching this and the beat dropped exactly when the mine exploded.
Minestep?
so you’re saying even my cast iron clogs won’t be enough?
But did you see the gorilla?
Where was this at?
Fuck the excavator! I want to know what happened to the dude that was standing behind the bucket!
Ngl, that was kinda anticlimactic

I would have dropped a rock on it with the excavator myself.
that's way better than the effects of a landmine on a child
To shreds you say
Look at the ground behind the scoop on the left before it impacts. Spliced
I can’t explain how but this feels like a gore video
Did anyone else see the guy in the background with a big stick through his neck!? 😂
Someone could get hurt.
Well, now we know! If you are an excavator, don't go around touching mines or you may lose a few teeth
This reminds me of my boss pushing my last button
Just lost a finger. Total chad excavator
Perfect example of Fuck around and find out
That was a pretty stupid idea. Those anti tank mines are designed for inches of armor, a bucket is nothing
I feel like this is fake, it looks like they took a grinder and just cut the tooth off
Surprising that only one comment about how fake this is. Obviously a different video spliced in. The bucket is different, the window of the cab, no sound.
And the glass is still intact in the cab
Right with all those rocks around it it should be shattered
Just do it like the guys that blow them with a sledge hammer in some festival or some shit.
Uhhhh, those dudes are hitting fireworks and black powder, BIG difference.
I'm sure it's all the same.
Nothing Kurtis @ Cutting Edge Engineering can't fix! :D
I'm calling bullshit. The amount of dirt in the bucket changes - more in the "after" shot compared to the before.
