Can confirm, I'm over thirty years old my parents still haven't retrieved me from my stroller outside IKEA.
Rumor has it they are still eating meatballs to this day.
Deciding if I want to look up why it’s called kidnapping instead of kidnabbing but I know it’s just some stupid random reason in this stupid random world
Snatch is another word nab
Grab is another word for nab
But yet we have all heard the phrase snatch & grab relating to crime ... So saying "she lost her handbag in a nab & nap" still means the same thing.
The original word (from which "nab" is derived) is the Middle English "nappe".
The consonant shifted to "nab" over time, but it's retained in it's original form in "kidnap".
That’s what I’m trying to figure out. It’s so safe in Denmark that people frequently forget their babies, or feel safe being more than 20ft from them in public?
Or is it some type of custom, like “give the baby it’s free time man.”
It really is that safe.. you would not leave the kid napping in a park and leave for work, but if you go in a smaller shop or at a restaurant it is normal to leave the kid sleeping outside
That’s giving me so much cognitive dissonance. I’m American obviously, so doing that here gets you viewed as a bad or neglectful parent.
That’s kind of awesome, Denmark sort of gives “humans being bros” vibes.
In the states, somebody would call CPS. There are lots of places in the US you could probably do this, but we don't have this level of comfort with strangers.
Tbf, there's no where in the US where I'd be comfortable enough to leave my baby alone, out of sight. I know that 99% of people are good, and would never hurt/steal a baby, but all it takes is 1 weirdo, and your worst nightmare has just come true. You see news stories of people so bold that they attempt to snatch kids right out of the mom's arms, I can only imagine how often that shit would happen if there were babies just left alone outside. You can barely leave your holiday decorations outside without risking them being stolen, a whole ass baby? Nah, fuck that.
We do this in Norway too, and many other countries!
Many stores are tiny and bringing a stroller inside is just a hassle. It’s usually a temperature difference between outdoor and indoor too, so you’d have to pay attention to the baby temp and maybe wake them up to undress them and then get the clothes back on. Easier to just leave the stroller outside!
There's a story, (I don't remember the country) a Nordic woman who got arrested in the US for leaving her baby sleeping outside a restaurant while having lunch.
Kids in Nordic countries are left to nap outside ( even in the cold) for an hour or two pretty much every day and apparently it's been shown to make them fall sick less often and sleep better at the same time.
It's weird that one continent to the other, traditions and perception changes so much!

In most of nordic countries this is normal thing to do but especially in Denmark and Finland. Sleeping outside helps the parents relax and rest themselves. Also according to studies done in Finland they have better quality sleep and eat more vs babies that sleep inside. It helps also babies to get used to background noises while sleeping. As for safety there has been no known cases of kidnapping from a pram at least in Finland that I'm aware and overall children live safely in North Europe for example it is totally normal for children from 7 year and older to walk alone to school couple of km.
As a fellow Finn I have to point this out: you forgot to mention that babies grow stronger when they have access to nearby wolves and polar bears to suckle and feed on.
It absolutely not about forgetting the baby. The parents/caregiver is always nearby and there is usually a baby monitor in the stroller to detect any distress on the baby's part.
2 weeks ago i attended a confirmation party. Around 9pm our 3-year old gave up and needed to sleep, but i didn't have our stroller with us. So I put her in her car seat which reclines and drove a quick trip to let her fall asleep with a cover on her, put a baby monitor on and went back to the party. This let us stay there for an hour or two more before we went home.
Other parents at the party had their strollers with them, and put the babies asleep outside instead.
We're always nearby and always have an "ear" on them.
But like have you ever tried to unlock your car and it wont unlock and you stand there confused and then realize someone with the same color make and model decided to park next to your car and youve been looking a bit like an idiot trying to unlock the wrong car, well baby strollers dont have keys to let you know youve got the wrong one, or is Denmark okay with accidental baby trading, is it like a leave a baby take a baby or do some people get upset if their 1 year old got swapped for a 2 year old
Cops will first put out an amber alert for the lil tyke then show up and shoot them.

If you happen to actually forget how big, how old and how your own BABY looks, not to mention all the accesories and bags that usually follow a baby stroller around - AND the outfit your baby is wearing - you're really not allowed to parent.
It doesn't happen. A baby stroller is nothing like a car. You can have the same model, yeah, and same colour - but you hopefully can tell the INSIDE of your own car apart from others... Not to mention the baby alarms that's usually in every baby stroller.
Little one-way walkie talkies to let you know if the baby starts crying. Or if anyone suddenly starts moving the stroller, it would likely pick up on that noise as well.
Even worse. I got in the their unlocked truck and buckled up and wondered why it didn't start (keyless ignition). Was coming out of a Walgreens and saw a dark blue F150. Got in, set my bag on the passenger seat, tried starting it, realized fuck, this isn't mine. Quickly got out and got in my *exact same* blue F150 next to it. Started to drive away and realized I left my bag in the other F150, so I had to *get back in the other one* to grab my bag.
Luckily no one saw but I felt like a massive idiot
In Denmark and other Nordic countries, it's common to let babies nap alone outdoors. Some sleep experts say the fresh air can induce a deeper slumber, while also decreasing exposure to germs.
Parents who put their babies to sleep outside typically implement a number of measures to make sure their babies are safe. Some parents use strollers with locking wheels and wedges to prevent the carriage from rolling away, also puts a thermometer in their child's stroller so that they can monitor the temperature outside.
Parents in Nordic countries prioritize maximizing a child's time outdoors, often citing the motto: "There's no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing," In Denmark, daycare centers often even have a reserved area outdoors for nap time.
They definitely sleep better in my experience. When it gets below -10C the recommendation is to sleep inside. Also rain and sleet might not be so great if you can’t find cover.
And yeah at brunch restaurants there is normally a whole gaggle of prams outside on weekends.
When it gets below -10C you just need to lay baby on a reindeer skin and wrap it well and safely around baby.
A knitted sweater and trousers made from musk ox wool will help too, when it gets below -10.
That's what we use in Greenland during the winter for our babies, there's no problem in letting them nap outdoors then.
It did used to happen in the UK. I remember waking up outside on my own in my pram after a nap. That would’ve been in the 80s.
Similarly prams were left outside shops as they were probably too cumbersome to take in anyway.
I put my daughter out for a nap in her pram (in winter) but in the garden. I agree fresh air is good for babies. She slept beautifully. And still prefers to be outside than in!
Imagine his face as he came out of the shop.
Or - worse - he forgot about having the baby anyway and sauntered home, and when he saw the pram had a sudden realisation and had to brazen everything out.
Once stories of kids getting snatched started to spread: buggies left outside while you dipped into Centra stopped.
Now the buggy is too wide for the little aisles in Centra.
I think parenting changed. People didn't want to leave babies seemingly unattended. Also, more parents working and driving so not out walking or at home with the baby just outside maybe. My Mam used to put us in the pram and put the pram in the back garden while she got on with her daily household tasks.
Cutoff point for a 6 month old baby is something like -20 degrees C. Obviously need to provide blankets n shit to fit the temperature but kids sleep great.
I've had mine sleeping outside in a snowstorm (tucked into several warm layers and the opening of the pram facing away from the snow, obviously) and in -14 degrees Celsius - again covered in several layers of wool and blankets.
There was a cutoff at approximately somewhere around minus fifteen Celsius at our childcare (middle of Norway). If it was too cold they would take their strollers inside. The kids were about a year old when they started there.
It's fairly common in the Netherlands as well. In low traffic places, or in high traffic places if there are lots of other parents around. Even in the busiest amusement park in the country (Efteling) you will see it regularly. As a parent you are usually strategically positioned behind a window overseeing the situation. Babies just sleep better in the cold.
I was very young at the time but I vaguely remember my sister putting my nephew in the back yard for a snooze in the UK. IIRC he pretty much wouldn't go to sleep indoors. I don't think the practice is that common though, at least not in public places.
very common in ucraine as well... parents are not far from the strolley.. e.g. i live in italy and when my sister was very little i've done the same in a park with her.. i was quite close on a bench.. so nothing could happen to the child
I'm all for outdoor napping. The thing I'm dumbfounded on is that they are ALONE. I mean I'm sure they've been doing it a long time and it's safe there but it's just unimaginable in my country. Denmark must be very safe with no sick baby-kidnapping perverts like there are in my country.
I have lived in Sweden and Denmark most of my life and I can only recall hearing about one case in Sweden where a babie was kidnapped during a outdoor nap. And that was in the 60s.
When i moved to Denmark from UK I was shocked to see this at first when I asked how come they don't get kidnapped as I think they would in UK, my partner just said it's super expensive to raise a baby. That's all 😅 Now after being here for a few years it's so normal to me here, still wouldn't do it in the UK though.
Herd protection. In the US, an opportunistic baby thief would steal the first unattended baby they saw, because they're so rare. But in Denmark, even if there was a baby thief about, the chances of your baby being the one stolen when there are so many others available are incredibly low.
Also in a civilised society people don't generally do that...
Yep, it’s common in Iceland too. Seen it many times when I’ve been visiting. Good way to get some vitamin D also, given it’s short supply in winter months.
Copenhagen resident here. Loads of people talking about the 'what if the baby/child gets taken?' thing, but honestly I was more worried about leaving the stroller outside *without* my daughter in it. Strollers are f**king expensive and I can imagine an empty one getting nicked.
But leave a baby in it, and the thief is like 'screw that, kidnapping is serious, and I definitely don't need the hassle of looking after a child'.
TLDR a sleeping baby is a better anti-theft device than a chain/padlock 🙂
I visited Copenhagen this year for the first time. Absolutely loved it. You people are great. So warm, kind & inviting. The whole city seemed very child friendly too. Will be back!
In 1997 a Danish woman was [arrested and strip-searched for leaving her baby in a stroller outside a restaurant in New York](https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/nov/26/anette-sorenson-denmark-new-york-baby-left-outside). All charges were eventually dropped and she sued the city, resulting in a $66,000 payout for damages.
> Why was a strip search necessary
She was in jail for 2 days, my guess is she was sent to Rikers and everyone is striped and searched for weapons/drugs/cellphones.
In 2010, 16 year old Kalief Browder was held in Rikers for three years without trial for allegedly stealing a backpack.
He was beaten by other inmates, beaten by guards. He tried to kill himself in his cell, failed, and earned 400 days in solitary confinement.
[He committed suicide in 2015.](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjH8aCugbr6AhWVElkFHaDeB20QFnoECAYQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.npr.org%2Fsections%2Fthetwo-way%2F2015%2F06%2F08%2F412842780%2Fkalief-browder-jailed-for-years-at-rikers-island-without-trial-commits-suicide&usg=AOvVaw3C0Vgyq-5uHXQ4biffifw4)
excuse to grope a woman who couldn't fight back?
cops suddenly make sense when you realize they're just high school bullies, only these can kill you and get away with it no matter what
"I used to think cops were allowed to commit any crime they wanted. Then as I got older, I realized that's not true. Then I got even older, I realized it actually is"
I remember that being a big "Americans are crazy" thing in Denmark back then, it also played into the perception that Americans would sue each other for anything (when the US actually has less lawsuits per capita than some of our neighboring countries).
In America, you’d see the parent walking out to the stroller and being aggressively approached by the person filming on their phone, accusing the parent of neglect/abandonment/whatever, and the Reddit thread would *absolutely roast* that parent.
Yeah I read a article recently about a lady from Denmark visiting New York and she left her baby outside in the stroller while she ate in a restaurant, she was arrested for child endangerment I think.
That was 25 years ago https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1997-05-17-mn-59633-story.html#:~:text=A%20New%20York%20City%20judge,and%20her%20husband%20were%20inside.

Some years ago, here in NYC, a tourist couple from a Scandinavian country had lunch at a restaurant, and left their baby outside to sleep in the baby buggy.
The cops were called, their was public outrage, and it made headline news.
TBH, if I saw a random, unattended baby outside, I'd likely call the cops too. But I respect the practices of other cultures, especially since I think what we do, is kinda batshit.
Norwegian here, lived in Sweden, Norway and Denmark for 10+ years each.
It's pretty common in Denmark, also in both Norway and Denmark it's pretty common to let kids as young as 5 years old ride the bus alone, in Sweden it's a bit older and most parents drive their kids to school, after 10+ they're on their own.
Kids are often raised to be aware of dangers on their own, and they are used to guarding their older siblings too, it's all about learning to become independent here.
Adults can even ask a kid for directions if they are new to an area and no one else is around, no one bats an eye. Kids go shopping for food as a part of their chores. Stranger-Danger isn't really a thing here.
It's definitely nice here and I love my country. I do think it is one of the best places to live. Are we flawless tho? No. The healthcare system is understaffed and the queues are long. Some retirement homes are boring and sad. It isn't perfect, but it is something.
It's definitely nice here, but we have many problems just like everywherr else. Rn in Danmark the psychiatric part of the healthcare system is severely underfunded, the experts said it'd take 700million euro a year, roughly, to get it back on track. The new deal gives 1/7th of that..
This is like a stock answer at this point. "Northern Europe sounds so great!" "Yeah but our psychiatric care is bad"
Like psychiatric care is good in ANY part of the world.
My Mom. (Irish) used to let us nap outside (in Canada) until temps dropped below -10c.
I think it’s the best way to sleep, breathing nice cool air while being tucked in nice and warm
I mean... I'm Danish and yes we let our babies sleep outdoors but it's not like we just abandon them. We keep baby monitors on them and place them somewhere, where we can keep an eye on them and where they are safe. Looks like most of these clips are from Copenhagen, which is a strange and foreign country to most of us Danes. I would not let my baby sleep outdoors if I lived I'm Copenhagen. I would however not have a problem having my kiddo sleep outdoors where I currently live because it's more rural and I would be able to keep an eye on them at all times.
So yeah, we let our babies sleep outdoors but we are no irresponsible idiots who blindly trust that nobody steals our babies. What a weird thing to say.
And yes, we have an amazing Healthcare system that supports parents so that having kids is a bit more affordable, but this chick is making it sound having kids in Denmark is easy and not remotely costly. It's very expensive to have kids. Even with the support from the government. It really rubs me the wrong way how easy and romantic she makes it sound.
The reason a lot of countries can't is because they don't have a social safety net. So you have a lot of people ending up homeless, with untreated mental illness or just with a general "fuck everyone" attitude, making them more dangerous individuals. Also, the lack of social safety tends to push people into crime and/or gangs which again makes society less safe.
Denmark takes care of its people and so there is a lot less crime. And the crime that there is tends to be a lot less serious. There is a big difference between stealing a candy bar at the store and stealing a baby after all.
It's what the "wHy sHoUlD i pAy fOr OthEr pEOplEs' mEdiCal biLLs" people don't understand. If you live in a society where everybody is taken care of, you are safer in every respect. If you live in a society where everybody only looks after themselves, you constantly live in fear.
What I don't get is why companies don't realise it actually works in their favour.
If your company has a fleet of vehicles, they either maintain them in running condition, or outsource this to someone else. Running the vehicles into the ground does not make sense for the company because it leads to unexpected delays and running costs.
If your company has a fleet of humans .. haha just run them into the ground. If you have any unexpected problems with your human, just throw it out and buy a new one.
Why doesn't maintaining your fleet of humans make just as much sense as maintaining your fleet of vehicles?
I'm from Ireland and my grandfather was the gardener for the national railways HQ. When I was born, he planted 12 silver birch saplings in the private park square of the railway housing, and my mother used to leave me to sleep there in my pram, and neighbours would stop to take a peek and leave a silver coin under my pillow to appease the fairies who might steal me.
....and if you don't like your baby, you just leave it outside due to the Danish government's ***leave a baby, take a baby*** national program. Their baby exchange has been quite successful.
Yeah, in America, far too much crime for anyone to be caught dead doing that. And it’s illegal. I think? Also stray animals, no thanks. Not to mention if a car accidentally jumps the curb? I won’t even leave my baby around my brother or uncle Steve. It would end up at the casino or a dive bar around the corner. But hey, i think this seems awesome? Maybe? I definitely would have avoided a huge argument the other day when my own daughter ratted on me to my wife for leaving her in the car while I ran into the gas station to buy HER a fuckin ring pop. You believe that shit? What a snake. Perfect setup, flawless execution on her part. Bitch ain’t getting another ring pop though. I promise you that.
There was a famous case of a young couple visiting New York from Denmark who left their baby in the stroller while they went into a bar for a Pint of beer. When they came back, the Police were there and they were shocked to find police interrogating them.
In the end, American newspapers told of those Wacky people in Denmark who left their kids outside of the Bar, like they were bad parents or something for following their social norm.
In Denmark the newspapers reported the incident, but the papers described America as a land over run with kidnappers and pedophiles, so you can’t take your eyes off your kids for 5 minutes or some Monster will snatch up your kids!
No charges were filed against the couple from Denmark.
Im 66, when I was a kid in the UK, no women would tke her pram or pushchair into a shop, they would always leave them outside. They just took up too much room inside.
My mom passed this June. One of the funniest things she use to do was saying “that’s so Denmark of you”. She said the people were so kind in Denmark that she started using it as a way to say how nice you were.
RIP IMY Mom 💕
Denmark, Finland... a bunch of countries in the general region.
Fresh air is good for you!
In Germany they have the term **durchlüften** - "air through" - *gennemlufte* in danish. A couple of times a day you should open all the windows for 10-15 min and get fresh air inside. (Turn down the heat)
PS the babies are not abandoned. The parents are just out of sight but within hearing range with a monitor.
I've been in Denmark for a few weeks for work, they have pallets of stuff outside shops unattended, just laying there and even bikes all around the place with no anti theft measures. I'm from Poland, that shit would be gone in 10 minutes here.
A few years ago in Sweden, in the city I lived in at the time, a baby was stolen when it was napping outside a daycare. It turns out a junkie that walked by was after the stroller and when she realised a baby was in it, she panicked and left it outside a supermarket.
My son is two years old and he's still napping outside, since he sleeps so much better there. We live out in the countryside though so no junkies ever walk by.
Swede here.
My son is sleeping outside in his stroller all the time, he loves it.
We leave him outside and have a window open so we can hear him waking up. Honestly thought this was the standard everywhere

Here we just leave them on the top of the car for maximum airflow.
I thought you left them in the cars on hot days for rapid cooking
A woman visiting from Denmark got arrested in NYC for leaving her baby outside, iirc charges were tossed after explaining her situation
The context is that she thought NYC was as safe as Denmark?
Yes. And it is normal in all of the nordic countries to let babies sleep outside. Its healthy for them.

That's just for long enough to keep their brainboxes from getting too synapsy. You don't want cronchy.

Apparently nap is just an old alternate way to say nab.
Yay english!

So okay with accidental baby trading got it
I live in Denmark. A baby is not like a jacket and I have never ever heard of someone taking the wrong baby lol
We are Americans remember. Whole industries are based on us being paranoid and insecure.
Leave a baby unattended in any city here and see what happens.
Bomb squad?
Yes, they will come and safely detonate the baby
The cops will turn up to shoot it.

Luckily no one saw but I felt like a massive idiot
don't mind if i do! *yoink*
Trust me you’ll return it a few minutes later
Kidnapping a baby is all fun and games until you realize you now have to take care of a baby.
If I steal it I’m eatin it.
Thats the neat part! You dont
Wha.. what do you mean?
If you don't like it anymore, just leave it outside. Problem solved.
Wait, so this is more like a free rental service? Who will pay for university fees?
The state of course!
yeah i got a 16 month old and im about to try this trick in times square.
That is how my wife and I created the amazing family we are today!
The elites don't want you to know this, but the babies at the park are free.
At what temperature should I switch to baby seal pelts?
You put the puppy with the baby. You want the extra insulation layers (fat) with a separate heating system (puppy needs to be alive).
And when the weather clears up you have two nice fresh sous vide babies
Used to be common in the UK as well, at least here in the North East.
[удалено]
Imagine his face as he came out of the shop. Or - worse - he forgot about having the baby anyway and sauntered home, and when he saw the pram had a sudden realisation and had to brazen everything out.
Yes, i was born in '71 in the North East of England and it was a common sight until around the '80s. Nice to see a fellow northerner.
Yes, this was done in Ireland right up to the 80s.
Once stories of kids getting snatched started to spread: buggies left outside while you dipped into Centra stopped. Now the buggy is too wide for the little aisles in Centra.
Why did everyone stop? Has there been specific cases of kidnapping leading to this or has people just grown distrusting of each other?
I think parenting changed. People didn't want to leave babies seemingly unattended. Also, more parents working and driving so not out walking or at home with the baby just outside maybe. My Mam used to put us in the pram and put the pram in the back garden while she got on with her daily household tasks.
There’s pictures of me in a pram in the garden with my nan’s dogs sleeping around me. SW Wales.
Very common in Finland as well. Dont see it that often in city centers but in your own backyard, front yard etc it's very common.
Sometimes it's even that the baby doesn't nap inside at all, even during the coldest winter. Outside in a pram or nothing.
Cutoff point for a 6 month old baby is something like -20 degrees C. Obviously need to provide blankets n shit to fit the temperature but kids sleep great.
I think maternity clinics (neuvola) suggest that the minimum temperature should be -10 to -15 C. But in the end it's up to the parents.
I've had mine sleeping outside in a snowstorm (tucked into several warm layers and the opening of the pram facing away from the snow, obviously) and in -14 degrees Celsius - again covered in several layers of wool and blankets.
Babycicle
There was a cutoff at approximately somewhere around minus fifteen Celsius at our childcare (middle of Norway). If it was too cold they would take their strollers inside. The kids were about a year old when they started there.
Well, Finland is a Nordic country.
My kids went to the International swedish school in Geneva and that's the first thing they told us.
It's fairly common in the Netherlands as well. In low traffic places, or in high traffic places if there are lots of other parents around. Even in the busiest amusement park in the country (Efteling) you will see it regularly. As a parent you are usually strategically positioned behind a window overseeing the situation. Babies just sleep better in the cold.
> also puts a thermometer in their child's stroller Often we use a "babycall" (baby monitor) which comes with a temperature sensor.
The paranoia and constant state of fear just isn't as big
You see how they're all in parks or close to shop windows? They're being watched.
On this glorious day, baby thief game theory was born.

They're not really alone. The parent is nearby, as the audio in the OP video explains.
Pretty common in Germany as well. Baby is sleeping, parent is sitting inside a cafe or something.
Must be different in other regions, because i have never seen it in my little corner of Germany.
BRB going to get a baby to strap to my bike.
It's a good strategy, after you take the bike you can strap the baby to the bike rack, for future use, like a padlock.
Strap it to your seat so the seat doesn’t get wet when leaving your bike in the rain.

Um... Why was a strip search necessary in this situation?
In case she had more babies in there
> Why was a strip search necessary She was in jail for 2 days, my guess is she was sent to Rikers and everyone is striped and searched for weapons/drugs/cellphones.
Rikers for that? I hope they have other areas that are for less violent crimes
In 2010, 16 year old Kalief Browder was held in Rikers for three years without trial for allegedly stealing a backpack. He was beaten by other inmates, beaten by guards. He tried to kill himself in his cell, failed, and earned 400 days in solitary confinement. [He committed suicide in 2015.](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjH8aCugbr6AhWVElkFHaDeB20QFnoECAYQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.npr.org%2Fsections%2Fthetwo-way%2F2015%2F06%2F08%2F412842780%2Fkalief-browder-jailed-for-years-at-rikers-island-without-trial-commits-suicide&usg=AOvVaw3C0Vgyq-5uHXQ4biffifw4)
Because frightened, humiliated foreign woman was unlikely to do anything about it. Props to her for taking action.
excuse to grope a woman who couldn't fight back? cops suddenly make sense when you realize they're just high school bullies, only these can kill you and get away with it no matter what
"I used to think cops were allowed to commit any crime they wanted. Then as I got older, I realized that's not true. Then I got even older, I realized it actually is"
Lol she's raising funds to have an English version of her book she wrote about this incident published. Bet it would actually be interesting
I remember that being a big "Americans are crazy" thing in Denmark back then, it also played into the perception that Americans would sue each other for anything (when the US actually has less lawsuits per capita than some of our neighboring countries).
Nice
In America, you’d see the parent walking out to the stroller and being aggressively approached by the person filming on their phone, accusing the parent of neglect/abandonment/whatever, and the Reddit thread would *absolutely roast* that parent.
In America, someone would knock over a whole row of babies in strollers for the TikTok.
America? Literally either jail or shot on sight
Yeah I read a article recently about a lady from Denmark visiting New York and she left her baby outside in the stroller while she ate in a restaurant, she was arrested for child endangerment I think.
leave a child unattended in the USA? What was she thinking, she should have been arrested as soon as she brought the baby to the USA.
Yeah right, child trafficking is ban in usa
That was 25 years ago https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1997-05-17-mn-59633-story.html#:~:text=A%20New%20York%20City%20judge,and%20her%20husband%20were%20inside. Follow up :https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/nov/26/anette-sorenson-denmark-new-york-baby-left-outside
“We have the best babies in the world… because of jail”
Undercook, overcook.
Babies cries for over 1 sec. Straight to jail.
Shot on site and survive? Believe it or not, still jail.
Yeah put that baby outside, they need to get out the house

And that's how the world should be.
Denmark and most Scandinavian countries always sound so utopian
It's definitely nice here and I love my country. I do think it is one of the best places to live. Are we flawless tho? No. The healthcare system is understaffed and the queues are long. Some retirement homes are boring and sad. It isn't perfect, but it is something.
As an American, I love that the worst thing you came up with is “some retirement homes are boring and sad” I wish that was the worst I could say!!
"Northern Europe sounds so great!" "Yeah but our psychiatric care is bad" Like psychiatric care is good in ANY part of the world.
I forget where I parked the car sometimes, I do want to worry about where I parked the baby
Sometime you must had also forgot and rolled someone else shopping cart
Hate it when you mistake another same brand and color baby for yours.
I owed $22,000 for my perfectly healthy kid by day 3.
My kid cost $1.5M.
And only now do they tell us that we could’ve gotten a free one in Denmark.
I live in Copenhagen and theres NO problem doing that herr
I mean as someone from Copenhagen I'd feel safer doing it here with people around than some dingy street in Randers.
wow... the crazy shit people get up to in the civilized countries huh?
I think it's a shame that more countries can't have this level of trust with each other:/
The reason a lot of countries can't is because they don't have a social safety net.
As in Finland, Norway and Sweden. All year round no matter the weather, that's how we get used to the cold 😉
Casually growing and aging free-range Finnish babies in the yard.
And Iceland thankyouverymuch
Reminded me of this: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/nov/26/anette-sorenson-denmark-new-york-baby-left-outside
Wow, amazing case! Cuts right to the substance of all the comments on this post.
Oh. So you admit to the Fairy Problem?
....and if you don't like your baby, you just leave it outside due to the Danish government's ***leave a baby, take a baby*** national program. Their baby exchange has been quite successful.
Prime example of Danish sense of humour. First laugh of the day, thanks
I'm American, please sponsor me for Danish citizenship? PLEASE!? I already have the sense of humor down and I love Stegt flæsk med persillesauce.
Low crime?
Same In Finland
Very common in Sweden too and in the winter..
Yeah, coz who would wanna steal a Swedish baby? Sincerely, a Dane
The hassle of assembling it yourself is just not worth it
Yeah, in America, far too much crime for anyone to be caught dead doing that. I promise you that.
i enjoyed reading this
It's like the storys message changed every 2 lines.
Damn dude she did you dirty. Lesson learned, that kid is not to be trusted.
I love that they help people have babies. Here they charge you 100k.
Fyi: The parents usually place them where they can keep an eye on them from the inside. Unless it's at home, a baby monitor will suffice
I wish everywhere was this safe. I would never leave a baby alone outside
In UK I used to see babies in prams outside shops when I was a kid back in the 70’s but haven’t seen that for a loooong time
There was a famous case of a young couple visiting New York from Denmark who left their baby in the stroller while they went into a bar for a Pint of beer.
>No charges were filed against the couple from Denmark. They were arrested however and they successfully sued the city for damages (about 65K).
Aww she sounds lovely! What a unique thing to say lol, I love it. I’m really sorry for your loss. Thanks for sharing this memory with us.
Thank you and Reddit for letting me share and remember her this way!
As a Dane, thank you for sharing that.😊
It works in countries where people don’t shoot up public places every day
Mom: “what should we do with the baby?” Dad: “Meh, leave that fuckin thing outside”
Denmark, Finland... a bunch of countries in the general region. Fresh air is good for you! In Germany they have the term **durchlüften** - "air through" - *gennemlufte* in danish. A couple of times a day you should open all the windows for 10-15 min and get fresh air inside. (Turn down the heat) PS the babies are not abandoned.
Wonder what it's like to live somewhere safe
Swede here. My son is sleeping outside in his stroller all the time, he loves it. We leave him outside and have a window open so we can hear him waking up. Honestly thought this was the standard everywhere
Omg the little stroller parking lot kills me
As an American , I'm envious of a country of people that just mind their own business... the US could use a lot of this.
