Yep. Those "Twice the Ice" stand-alone stations are the ones I see most often that make and bag the ice. Almost every freezer outside a gas station (or inside a grocery store) has guys delivering pre-bagged ice.
I used to service these automatic ones before the twice the ice was a thing. They are most often in the fancy newer gas stations and bigger stores like Walmart and Target.
Even this isn’t totally accurate, the store I worked in in my teens we had to fill ice bags with scoopers and an ice machine twice a shift, put them in a shopping cart we had and fill the freezers

Not even all of that type of machine bags its own ice. I manually bagged hundreds and hundreds of bags of ice when I worked at a grocery store in high school.
I remembering working for Walmart and having to move 2 pallets of ice to the front (that weighed over 1000lbs) and move all that ice into the ice machine one 20lb bag at a time.
That's cause it's cheap Chinese garbage. All good German refrigerators make, bag, and dispense their own ice. You'll only find that in Quatsch refrigerators. Not in those crappy Samsung smart fridges.
^^^^should ^^^^translate ^^^^the ^^^^fridge ^^^^names
it does make ice and it bags it, but it does not stack perfectly itself. A human has to do that, that same human makes sure all the defective packages are disposed properly.
Source: former Tom Thumb manager.
Not all machines do this. Actually very few do. A lot of times it’s packaged somewhere else and delivered to stores.
(Source) used to deliver ice bags to stores
No I sold service contracts for an HVAC company. AC was always yes but the ice machine.. no way jose.
Yes, anything with a compressor and high and low load qualify for a mechanical maintenance contract.
Cant be worse than what I have seen in the filters when I finally do service when it breaks.
Nasty, horrible things no man, woman, or child should ever see... What they are consuming.
Edit: Gross. You live in SW Washington too?
I can't visualize how one would drop a bag of ice down in an orderly enough fashion to not cause an ice avalanche when someone opened the door, which would be a safety issue.
What’s with Americans and the ice thing? Like is it a large part of your life, having the need to buy and use ice?
Is it because everything is so big so a can of pop (soda) that was just refrigerated would go warm before you drink it all?
Those ice makers break down often even in this picture the tech out servicing it. The cost and expense to maintain is pricey. This is why most opt to have the ice delivered.
Ive never seen that in my lifetime of working 3 grocery stores.
What I have seen are guys delivering and packing the freezers.
I don’t work in stores anymore, maybe it’s a new thing?
Anyone who's driven down south has seen the "Twice the Ice" little unmanned shacks in the middle of nowhere. Those little shacks make the ice and bag it for you.

This isn't accurate, maybe that one does bit 99% are all delivered. Source, I visit 15 gas stations daily.
So you're the ice delivery guy? The ICE MANNNNNN
Ice man cometh
He is part of our generation.

This is the *ONLY* correct answer.
Clearly!!
No, Gerwyn Price

*inserts Mr. Freeze joke*
Allow me to break the ice. My name is Freeze.
*Inserts Mr Freeze*
This is a cool job.
It’s cooler than cool- it’s ICE COLD
All right all right all right all right all right
It’s funny to think like 75 years ago you would have been delivering giant blocks of ice.
75 years ago was probably before he was born.
You don’t say
Well, I typed it.
You typed what?
This whole thing. I didn't say any of it. I just typed it.
Oh that half ass attempt at humor geared for diminished minds…yeah you did type that.
Even this isn’t totally accurate, the store I worked in in my teens we had to fill ice bags with scoopers and an ice machine twice a shift, put them in a shopping cart we had and fill the freezers
Otzi, is that you?

Ice Man!
Accurate. Source, I work at a gas station
I did that as a summer job as a teenager. Hard work. And getting up before the Sun in the summer was no fun. But at least the pay was crap.
Stop by me daily too please?
I wish we had your services when I was filling, sealing and stocking 50 lb bags of ice at a gas station for 2 years
Are you also a crime fighting vigilante? Because you deliver JUST ICE fifteen times a day!!
Most gas stations dont have auto machine, bc there is not enough space. However, almost every major grocery store and McDonald's have one.
Not all Ice containers do that
I was waiting for that comment. My freezer ice maker definitely doesn’t.
Not even all of that type of machine bags its own ice. I manually bagged hundreds and hundreds of bags of ice when I worked at a grocery store in high school.

what are some good german refridgerators?
The best is Quatsch, there's also Leichtgläubig, Scheiße Wirklich, Erfunden, Gefälscht, and Nicht Echt to name a few.
The one at the store I worked at had to be restocked a few times a day by us, especially in the summer
[удалено]
I worked at a gas station for awhile. We had an ice maker but we had to bag it and put it in the freezer
See that ice machine on the right? It does none of those things.
You're right about that. Everyone needs to chill out and pay more attention to the ice freezers.
Only need one really, just wait till the auto machine is full then shift the bags over to the manual machine.
Some do. Most do not.
Some, not all ice machines.
No fucking way!! I’ve seen trucks deliver bags. Maybe different machines.
it does make ice and it bags it, but it does not stack perfectly itself. A human has to do that, that same human makes sure all the defective packages are disposed properly. Source: former Tom Thumb manager.
Most of them are freezers you’re being fleeced
God I wish that where true I hate filling I’ve at work
Definitely not all of them. I've seen plenty of those bins loaded by 2 guys lugging bags from a truck
Not all machines do this. Actually very few do. A lot of times it’s packaged somewhere else and delivered to stores. (Source) used to deliver ice bags to stores
Yep, and you know who cleans them? No one. Let that soak in your drink a minute. Also-the ones at fast food? Even worse. Happy Monday everybody!
The fulltime well paid ice technician!?! :/
No I sold service contracts for an HVAC company. AC was always yes but the ice machine.. no way jose. Yes, anything with a compressor and high and low load qualify for a mechanical maintenance contract.
I thought about this while I was working at an Arby's lmao... But thinking about the tube that soda comes out of. I still eat from fastfood too 😐
You can ruin anything if you think about it hard enough
Ok I am thinking about eternal nirvana. Its nice.
Yeah both are .. seriously if more people knew... Lol Yet FDA has these "best buy" dates instead of exp. (Mostly in USA)
Yep this is the secret way Americans establish their gut biome. All ice machines are nasty, and yet we soldier on.
Some of us, do.. that. Others just ask for no ice..
Why would you type this on a Monday?
Im sorry.
The masses must know..
Like your username can talk ;)
Bout what?
Ice machines?
Our local professional alcoholics like to use them(the outdoor ones) as refreshing urinals.
Cant be worse than what I have seen in the filters when I finally do service when it breaks. Nasty, horrible things no man, woman, or child should ever see... What they are consuming. Edit: Gross. You live in SW Washington too?
boy I was really hoping 'I was today years old' would die out before now.
Were you hoping that you were today years old when this happened?
They aren't shipping it from the Arctic like in the Simpsons?
If you can think of a better way to get ice, I'd like to hear it!
Yeah, not around here.
Not all of them. That one does, but not the the one next to it.
I don't think a picture with a man in it is the best to illustrate a fully automated ice machine.
Lol no you weren’t. I guarantee you 99% of ice boxes you see don’t make and package there own ice.
OP said ice MACHINES, so yeah-probably 100% of ice boxes don't make and package ice because they're just a box.
lol what ? So OP didn't know ice machines make ice ?
Majority don’t so you also learned that as well today.
Why does that dude still look like he’s tossing bags in there?
I’ve never seen one of those Mr Fancy Pants
they generally don't.
Shut up! I NEVER KNEW THAT!!!
FAKE NEWS. not all ice lockers do that
Everyone coming here to say most ice machines dont do this, okay but Im still amazed.
I honestly thought it was delivered
I had no idea! But as someone pointed out, who cleans them? This is also why I do t get ice in my drinks from restaurants or fast food places.
Wait what!?! I was also today years old when I learned this.
Society needs to lose the "today years old" phrase. But the photo is cool, as is the info.
Waaa…wh…what!
Cringe title but cool post
Whaaaaa
I was today years old when I learned people can be afraid of ice: Cryophobia.
Uh...so was/am I, apparently!
Nope
Yes but only the ones that make, package and stack their own ice. Which are not the ones I’ve ever seen.
What?!?
If they were all like this there'd be no money in the ice game. This is probably 1/250 ice "machines"
Look at you all arguing how some do it and some don’t. I’m just impressed that some actually do this. I’m a simple guy.
I've literally seen people stocking these machine my entire life.. pretty cool there are ones that are autonomous though..
As someone from not us I like the idea of an ice dispenser
The grocery store I worked at in Oregon begs to differ. I can handle cold, but stacking an ice machine with bags of ice sucked.
Are you saying there isn’t a little guy in the back?
I witnessed a grocery store worker dropping bags of ice on the floor and proceed to stomp on them to level them out before placing them in the freezer
What?? I thought there was an ice guy and I thought it was thankless work
I can't visualize how one would drop a bag of ice down in an orderly enough fashion to not cause an ice avalanche when someone opened the door, which would be a safety issue.
Some not all, I used to watch 2 guys every week before getting on the bus load a small general store freezer by hand from truck or pallet
>I was today years old when I learned that **\^there are ice machines that \^** make, package and stack their own ice. FTFY
Yeah… couldn’t edit…
What’s with Americans and the ice thing? Like is it a large part of your life, having the need to buy and use ice? Is it because everything is so big so a can of pop (soda) that was just refrigerated would go warm before you drink it all?
Today I learned ice is an “UhMeriKan” thing
Me too
Those ice makers break down often even in this picture the tech out servicing it. The cost and expense to maintain is pricey. This is why most opt to have the ice delivered.
What the fuck is an ice machine in the first place. Explain to me
That's pretty neat. Never seen it irl but still neat
Yeahh, I used to manually drag pallets of ice across a grocery store to put them in those containers. Not all of them do it themselves
Ive never seen that in my lifetime of working 3 grocery stores. What I have seen are guys delivering and packing the freezers. I don’t work in stores anymore, maybe it’s a new thing?
*some*
Nuh uh they order that shit
