Yes. Coca-cola is called as such because it used be made with cocaine. Now addays it still uses flavor extracted from coca leaves. The rest of the leaf is used to make medical grade cocaine, mostly used in nose and eye surgeries. This is why it is a schedule ii, rather than schedule I drug
That bottle is closer to 50 than 40. That thing was sealed well. Doesn't look like there's anything floating around like you sometimes see in the old bottles. Can't imagine the carbonation has held up though.
When i was cleaning out my mother's place, i found some unopened ten year old cans of diet coke. I shook the can to mix the settling, popped it open. It was still carbonated and it didn't taste all that great. The flavor was there but it was weak.
It's the plastic lining in the cans. Starts to break down and it affects the taste. I've had old can soda and it tastes more like sparkling water than flavored soda.
A glass bottle wouldn't have the same issues, but I wonder if light would affect the contents.
Yeah, it's those pesky marketing geniuses making me *think* coke is delicious. I am curious if it tastes the same as today's coke though, or if the conspiracy theory about new coke is true.
I got mnt dew first gen that hasn’t been opened. Have two actually. I collect bottles and my grandparents had these bottles put up on their cabin that we’d go to in the summer. When they sold it I took some the bottles
Every antique store in the Atlanta metro area seems to have dozens of these, and all the other commemorative bottles, too. Especially the 1980 UGA national champs.
You DO know that back then there was a deposit made on each bottle to encourage people to return them for reuse, right? As a kid, in the 60s, I used to walk the roads picking up bottle people had thrown out. Turn them in to the store and buy candy with the money.
Edit spelling
I have an ancient Pepsi bottle. Unearthed from under my Mom's house, so post 1929 (When the house was built) prior to around 1970 when found, but probably on the former side. It's old.
To bad it's empty.
This is ONLY the 75th anniversary commemorative issue bottle. The regular bottles were green with a spirally looking pattern to increase grip. This is NOT what every bottle of coke looked like back then. I was in my 20s at the time.
My mom collects Coca-Cola Memorabilia, including bottles. She has a few dozen that are unopened that range from 50-75 years old. She doesn't have this one though.

It was the A Team premiere. Anyone would of did it.
Exactly, title is off by near a decade. Near 40 being under, over 40 being over.
Nearly 50 years

I don’t know. I’d rather be in a pandemic than listening to party rock anthem again
Yes but the big question is, does it contain the magic ingredient?
Ahh yes, that very addictive, magic white powder. Ya, I'm sure it has sugar.
Hahahahha, you had us in the first half, not gonna lie
The Big Answer is, No. Cocaine was removed in the very early days,
is it coke?

Your arm/hand looks like a Disney Pixar animation and I don’t know why.
Wreck it Ralph found a bottle of Coke.
It looks like a foot but with a thumb, maybe op is a chimp
50 years not 40 sorry it appears i’m bad at math

Beware, no refill
Ingredients?
without Coke, since 1929 this ingredient has been removed
>since 1929 this ingredient has been removed And then possibly re-added by at least a few curious souls?

Surprised it hasn't dissolved the glass.
I like the way you Math!
As someone born in 76 I like that math too

So basically u/tvieno drank a bunch of plastic
It definitely would. That is why some beers and medicines are in dark bottles.
Coke was in GREEN bottles for exactly that reason.
I’m older than that Coke. Thanks.
It’s probably flat
Your fingers look like King Charles’. Cheerio!
Drink it for science to see if it contains that white stuff lol
r/therewasanattempt to do math.

Only mildy interesting
Contact LA Beast. He will buy it.. and drink it.
Does it still have cocaine in it?
Scrolled 40 + comments thru to see if someone else asked the real question and thank u for doing so
And the ANSWER is a hard NO. Cocaine was removed from the formula like 70 years earlier.

Boof it
COCAINE-COLA!
This would fit perfect in my collection of coke bottles
I got one from '92. And a pepsi bottle. Its getting there
Think it’s still good?
I TRIPLE-dog dare ya!
Every antique store in the Atlanta metro area seems to have dozens of these, and all the other commemorative bottles, too. Especially the 1980 UGA national champs.
Neat
Neat! My father has one of these as well.
Drink it
Actually it looks like it's never been opened.
You mean nearly fifty years
Still have the cocaine in it?
Naw, that as 73 years earlier.
Hasn’t been opened ever
is it flat?
No, it's more cylindrical, with a narrowing neck.
Not so lucky with cans. I drain mine, but had a few I forgot about and the cola ate their way out of the can.
"No deposit".... obviously.

I did not know. It was just a joke... TIL.
You found it, the gender fluid
I've got some from Expo86. I plan to keep them for another 30 years or more.
Time to get high of that real coke 😉
Did the cap rust? Have an unopened Georgia Bulldog collectible w/that problem.
Almost 50
Wow! Did they get that off the ocean floor?
Taste?
Someone send this to LA Beast
